I loved that this is my heroes daughter. Lucas Davenport is sitting back while his daughter Letty takes the reins and it's a heart pumping adrenaline filled read. I could feel the blood pumping.

I've read and enjoyed many of John Sanford's books and while this one was good, it's not one of my favorites. The characters are great and the writing is Sanford's usual crisp narrative, but I didn't care for the story much. The first half of the book moved very slowly but the end made up for that with action and cliffhangers.

I look forward to the next book with these characters.

Unfortunately this one wasn’t for me. I found it quiet boring and couldn’t connect with the main character.

The Investigator is a pulse-pounding thriller that takes readers on a wild ride through the oil fields of Texas. Letty and John, a team of investigators, are tasked with uncovering the truth behind a string of oil thefts, but they soon find themselves in the middle of a much larger and more dangerous conspiracy. The author expertly weaves together a complex web of characters and motivations, keeping the reader guessing until the very end. The writing is crisp and the pacing is spot-on, making this book a must-read for fans of action-packed mysteries. The stakes are high and the tension never lets up, making for an edge-of-your-seat experience that will have readers on the edge of their seats. Overall, The Investigator is an exciting and well-crafted novel that is sure to keep readers guessing until the very last page.

Firstly I adored the characters in this story. They were amazingly likeable and unique. I was sad to leave them behind when the book ended. The plot was also well done and creative. The ending was jam packed full or suspense and horror and raced along at breakneck speed. The only reason this book lost stars for me was the length, I felt a lot of it dragged out slowly and condensed a bit this would have been a speeding rollercoaster. It lost momentum due to the length.
Over all a decent read albeit long

It was the first book i read by John Sandford and won't surely be the last as I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Tightly knittted, fast paced and a solid plot. Letty is a clever woman and I liked her.
I want to read the other books by this author.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a compliemtary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my own opinion.

I have loved so many of John Sandford's books, I thoroughly enjoyed the Virgil Flowers and Lucas Davenport books and was excited to read about Lucas Davenport's adopted daughter, Letty and hear her story. I really enjoyed Letty and John Kaiser, I liked their character development and seeing their friendship grow into respect. Unfortunately, this story itself did not hold my interest, I found that I did not care for the storyline; I just wanted to get back to the chapters that featured Letty and John.

I will definitely check out another book in this series though, as I really liked Letty Davenport and would like to see where her story leads.

A new series from John Sanford and a great introduction to new characters who we will hopefully be seeing more of.
A slow burner initially before things start to pick up towards the end however it's got enough about it to keep the reader onboard for the rush to the conclusion. Well worth sticking with although I didn't at any point feel like putting it down for another day.
Well written characters and storyline with the promise of more to come.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for my advance copy in exchange for the review.

I thought this was good read, but it was a little slow in places. All the good stuff is here and well written to suck you in from the beginning. Lettie taking center stage was interesting. Her story defiantly has her own feel to it, which I enjoyed. I assumed her story would have the same feel as Luca's, but it doesn't which is nice. I am looking forward to her next adventure.

In this new series from author John Sandford, Letty is all grown up and trying to decide what she wants to do with her life. She has graduated from Stanford and is working a desk job for Senator Colles but is quickly bored with the work. When the Senator offers her a job as an investigator where she'll be working alongside the Department of Homeland Security she jumps at the chance. There are quite a few oil companies in Texas that have reported crude being stolen. The Senator wants to know where the money for the stolen crude is going. Is it a local militia group that is always involved in something or someone else? Letty is partnered with a DHS investigator named John Kaiser. The two head to Texas to investigate in hopes of coming up with some answers quickly. When things turn deadly the two know they must hurry to find answers before they end up dead. I was so happy to see Letty getting her own series and can't wait to see where the author leads her to next.

How does John Sanford keep writing such wonderful thrilling adve tiresome books about crime and murder? Another compulsively readable and gloriously twisty novel. Definitely an auto buy author who never seems to disappoint.

The Investigator by John Sanford
The Letty Davenport Series #1

Letty’s entrance indicated she had a skillset that would later come in handy as she found information not all would have been able to access. She is bored in her job and ready to quit when Senator Colles offers her a job that could be perfect for her. John Kaiser, the man she is partnered with as she heads off on her first investigation, is a bit older, a seasoned warrior, bright, capable, and brings similar but different skills to the partnership that will assist them both on the case. That said, the first part was a slow slog as they got to know one another, started to work on the investigation, talked to oil men about missing oil, thought about who might be taking it, how it was being taken, what the money was being used for and all they learned eventually provided clues that had them hustling in hopes of preventing a difficult situation.

This book introduced the main and supporting characters for the series, gave a bit of both backstories, gave insight into Letty’s way of working through issues, and indicated trust and respect were developing between John and Letty that should provide them with a strong working relationship.

This is the first book I have read by Sanford, and I wasn’t sure during the slow slog of the first two-thirds of the book that this would be a series for me BUT as the pace picked up toward the end, I became more invested and do believe I would like to find out what happens next.

Thank you to NetGalley and Canelo for the ARC – This is my honest review.

4-5 Stars

What an awesome read! I love Letty Davenport. This is a woman you don't want to mess with at all because she will kick the crap out of you! Urgh and the cliffhanger that it ended on! I can't wait for the next book in the series.

I don't know the backstory of Letty but throughout the book, you get enough information to form an opinion about her and her background.
With the author's experience as a journalist, you can see the attention to detail in the writing which makes for very exciting reading.

Letty's boss senator Christopher Coles sends her together with ex-army master sergeant John Kaiser to investigate oil that is going missing. Someone is stealing oil in small quantities from all the top oil companies. Soon their paths cross with a militia led by Jane Jael Hawks. Why are they stealing the oil and what is the master plan?

My favourite line in the book is: "I don't know what to think I got to talk to my wife to see what she thinks"
Attaboy!!

Thank you to Netgalley and Canelo for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
