For some reason, I love stories about people being stranded on deserted islands lol (also, does this actually happen? Like are people ever rescued from deserted islands?) This book had a lot of potential but it was just kind of boring? Overall, it just took a really long time to get to anything actually happening and you would think that a story like this would be action packed. I also wasn’t very surprised by the reveal and the explanation for why the person did the things they did, didn’t completely make sense. I did love the ending and how the girls stuck together and explained to the guys the reality of being a women in the world. This wasn’t a bad book but it was just really forgettable so I can’t rate it any higher!

An engaging, fast paced YA Thriller about a group of teens whose plane crashes on a remote island. They have to rely on each other to survive, but sinister things begin happening and they begin to realize the real threat may be one of them

FLEW through this excellent, incredible book. Tightly written, earnest, creepy at several parts—one of the best YA thrillers I've read in ages.

I loved these characters. They were so great. I loved their background history and their chemistry, the love and support for one another, the angst, the push and pull, the tension between them, everything was so well executed by the author. The characters were not perfect, they had their own struggles and obstacles they had to overcome before they came to the realization that they are better together than apart. I’m so happy with how everything wrapped up at the end. It was such an enjoyable book.

I really enjoyed this gritty read about vengeance. Though the characters are a bit cliche I felt the writing and the timing of the information you get from the flashbacks is done in a very interesting and hooking way.

I really like this sub-genre and I enjoyed the mystery set of a deserted island here, but I found the beginning too slow-moving, boring and a case of "telling rather than showing".

The messaging regarding sexual assault in this book is an important one, but using the deserted island as a vehicle for delivering that message was an interesting one.

The narrator was mediocre.

I had visions of Lord Of The Flies when I read the summary that seven teenagers were stranded on an island after a plane crash, but let's face it, nothing can quite compare to that book.

The first part of the book focuses on their will to survive, but it soon turns into a mystery as accidents begin to happen and a mystery unfolds.

The story is told to us by Haley, who is more of a storyteller slash observer than an actual character in the events of the story.

The story has a big build-up throughout most of the first half. This helps propel you through the pages and makes the book a very quick read. You feel the anticipation of something coming, however, even with all the build-up I found the ending to be a bit rushed and would have liked it to play out a bit more.

I had mixed feelings about the book, I felt it was very predictable and the characters were all a bit cliche. There were several triggering aspects to the story, such as rape and toxic male behavior, so if you are bothered by that kind of thing, use caution while reading. I do think the author used the book as a platform for getting a point across about several important issues, and at times I felt preached at, but for the most part, I think she did a good job.

I won't lie, I read this quickly, and there were parts I enjoyed and parts I just forced my way through, but all in all, it was pretty good.

This is a story about vengeance.

This was such an interesting, nuanced read. I love man vs wild stories so I was anticipating a fun time, but I did not expect a thought provoking exploration of revenge vs justice.

As a plus, the audio was excellent. Thank you so much @netgalley & @recordedbooks for the ALC!

So inanely creepy and tension filled and just a great audiobook. Thank you to the publisher for the ALC.

No Accident was an extremely slow burn with lots of side story flashbacks that revealed details about the characters. The writing was done well and I enjoyed the storytelling but I didn’t feel a connection to any of the characters which made it difficult to feel any sense of anxiety about the situation they were in. There was a little mystery and suspense but it never felt like the MCs were in a dire situation. The ending was an interesting twist but it didn’t pack any punches or jaw dropping revelations. It felt like more of a statement (albeit an extremely important one) at the end and took away any sense of mystery/suspense so I feel that it’s a small stretch to truly consider it a thriller.

I feel that if the narration had less voice acting I would have enjoyed the story more. The exaggerated voice acting made it difficult for me to take it seriously as a thriller/survival story. A full cast narration might have been a better choice but I personally think that a single narration with simple reading would have been the best choice.

I don’t think I would discourage my friends from reading this book but I would probably discourage them from listening to it as an audiobook. I am going to reread this book in physical copy form in a few months to see if my rating remains the same.

Not sure why I liked this as much as I did but it definitely kept me listening throughout! I wasn't completely satisfied by the ending- it felt a little rushed- but overall it was a good one to listen to. The narrator was really good!

Always love a good gritty read. Liked the suspense and the characters. Rhe story line worked well with the narrator 4/5

Basketball players and cheerleaders survive a place crash on a deserted island yet after the crash someone or something starts to threaten their chances of survival. The narrator’s POV is also the schools’ newspaper editor and is determined to dig deeper into the events of the night before the crash to understand possible causes of sabotage.

First; I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was fantastic. However, the first half of the book was too slow paced which made the more exciting half (and conclusion) feel rushed. There wasn’t enough time for me to grow attached to other members of the group (beyond my hatred for Brain- yuck!) so I was not as invested in the outcome as I wanted. I do applaud the authors’ discussion of consent, sexual assault, and sexism and hope the message and read resonates with her intended audience.

Really enjoyed listening to this. I was gripped through the entire book wondering what was going to happen next. I am a total fan of stranded booked, and this one was right there at the top of its game.
The authors fight for gender equality really shone through, especially towards the end of the book. The feminist message is clear and powerful and added importance the the message the author is portraying.

I dithered a little here - should I give 3 and a half rounded up or 3 and a half rounded down stars... I have settled on the former, which bumps the rating up to 4 stars.

The reason is that while I enjoyed this, at times it was a little far-fetched. (To be honest, I was waiting for the pilot to appear with a knife or flare-gun at any moment!) I'm not sure how far someone in that situation would go having never been there, but once I listened all the way to the end - including the author's note - I decided it wasn't far-fetched at all. As a side note, I have to mention that Brian is simply awful and it's a pity the shark didn't chomp off more of him. Awful I know, but true...)

Jason isn't much better and also got off far too lightly. You'll understand why when you reach the end of the tale and it really hits home that this is actually the reality, everything said here is for the most part true, and is a sign of how sick and rotten society is, to the very core. It's an excellent lesson and I hope it sinks in.

I also loved the narrator, she really grew on me.

4 stars.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my ARC.

This story follows a group of high school students after a plane crash leaving the stuck on a deserted island. Although the teens are trying to survive weird things start happening perhaps the crash wasn’t an accident after all. This book was a little weird for me I was expecting a fun fast ya thriller, but this book got into some deep dark topics that I was not expecting . The characters were ok but many of them felt underdeveloped with some many characters. I did enjoy this authors writing she kept me entertained so look forward to picking up from her in the future. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator she was easy to understand and did a good job of being able to distinguish between characters. I would like to thank the publishers and Net galley for a chance to read this book for an honest review .

Laura Bates:
Not all men are pigs
Not all teens are idiots
Not all teen girls are "bosses"
Way to many caricatures

I appreciate her message to teen girls that they need to be cautious of their surroundings in today's world, but this honestly felt like she just created a scenario where teens could be placed together and discuss the horrible fact that women are sexually assaulted. She had a great idea for a book, teens trapped on a island and they start to die--but why oh why did the last 25% of the book evolve into her preaching about sexual assault. She could have accomplished this in a simple news piece, the message of the book felt so out of place given the plot of the book.
Thank you Netgalley for this advanced copy read. I was not influenced for this honest review.

This book was actually pretty good. Suspenseful and almost a modern day Lord of the Flies type situation (and much more enjoyable in my honest opinion). A plane crashes and a bunch of teens find themselves stranded on a deserted island with no adults and very little food or water. They find themselves learning to forage for food, make rain barrels for water and any other survival skills they find necessary. And then someone starts messing with them. It has to be one of them, right? Cuz there isn’t anyone else…but what reason would anyone have to try and hurt each other more than they already are?

My main issue with this story is how it ended up being more than it initially appeared. While I am absolutely supportive of the message this book was putting out there, I wish that it had felt more like a solid part of the story rather than how it was. I listened to the audio and maybe it was the emotions of the teenagers (which was done perfectly by the way) that made it feel like a rushed afterthought but that’s where I am with it.

Serious subject matter/trigger warnings include: rape, teenage drinking.

Thank you to RB Media and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

A quick and enjoyable read that I finished in a day. I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrator did a fantastic job. I can't wait to read what the author writes next!

I requested No Accident because it reminded me of Yellowjackets. A group of athletes and cheerleaders crash land on a deserted island and must work together for survival. When days pass and there's no rescue, strange occurrences make the kids think someone else might be on their island. And that someone doesn't want them to leave.

I was intrigued until about the 50% mark. After nearly two weeks trapped on an island, my greatest fear would be never being found. But for these kids, their focus was on trivial things from their pasts and playing tricks on each other. Maybe I'm now too old for YA but that irked me. There wasn't any fear or hysteria at potentially living the rest of their lives on an island.

I mostly enjoyed this but it was definitely dragged out way too long and the ending sucked. All that build up and it just ended out of nowhere. The last couple of chapters were a feminist rant that also came out of nowhere.

This is an ARC book review from NetGalley.

I love a thriller and this book kept my on the edge of my seat all the way through.
There were twists and turns all throughout. There was sabotage, lies, and the constant hope that the next page would show them being rescued.
The message was super important that women live in more fear then men. This was book was definitely written by a feminist, not that that is a bad thing.
I can't say I agree with the decision to not report the rape once they were rescued. I also think that Shannon was wrong to put the others in danger as revenge.
Some of the characters were super annoying but I think that was on purpose. Maybe it was the audio that enhanced that, I'm not sure.
Definitely for a young adult audience. I'm glad these topics are being spoken about so that maybe it will encourage people to speak up if they find themselves victim to sexual assault.
