I looked at this story with my 6 year old daughter, and we both were thrilled to see a Deaf main character - this is so rare and it was very exciting! However, it was a bit confusing as to what was going on. I had to go back to the summary to see, the story is told in its entirety in the blurb and I found it to be nearly necessary in order to explain it to my daughter.

This is because there are no words in the story, which is not a problem! The problem was that Rose is depicted as doing many signs throughout the book, but there is no descriptor regarding what the signs are. I think that was a missed opportunity to introduce words and signing to a young audience. Even a few words throughout would have helped it tie together.

Inadvertently, it did lead to a wonderful conversation with my daughter about how hard it can be to figure out what is going on in a bustling room when you are unable to hear and rely on people's body language and expression to provide clues. I don't know that that was the intent of the story, but it ultimately worked out for us and we enjoyed a small glimpse into Rose's day (even if we wouldn't have known the best friend's name, or that they made a plan to confront the bully's - if we hadn't read the summary again).

I have two feelings about this book. Our main character, Charlie Rose is deaf. She was born that way and it will never change. She goes to a traditional school and speaks signed English instead of American Sign Language. I do not know the difference. I would be interested in knowing if the author is death as well. The story revolves around Charlie Rose being made fun of in the library when people can’t communicate with her because Rose has very limited speaking abilities. She relies on others to speak for her or through her communication book. In the end of the book, she stands up for herself with the help of her best friend Daisy, to tell her class to stop picking on her and have a little compassion and maybe instead learn something new. I like the message of the book, but it is quite long. The illustrations are lovely, but it illustrates signs, but then gives no meaning of it, so what was the purpose of illustrating the sign movement. I really want this book to work but as someone who is not in the deaf community, I don’t know how accurate or if I am fully getting the message of the illustrations. I think the book is lovely. I also think there are problems, but those problems could because I’m not part of the deaf community.

I appreciate the variety in children's books. I believe it raises awareness among children and teaches them to recognise and appreciate differences. It's one thing to write a character with a hearing impairment, but it's another without words to convey the experience to readers. I liked how the main character in this book is a young deaf girl. It felt approachable to children, and it would undoubtedly allow young readers and their families to learn more about the experiences of a deaf person. It depicts Rose's weekly routine and how she is similar to other children in going to school, having a friend, going to the library with her mother, and going to the park.o A dance lesson. It also highlights the differences, such as Rose having an interpreter at school and communicating with sign language or a communication book. When Rose is bullied at the library, she chooses to be kind and educate her classmates with the help of a friend rather than retaliate. Overall, I thought this book would be helpful in classrooms and for young children and their families. I appreciated the message of kindness.

I loved the diversity in this book. The main character is deaf and it looks like her best friend is wearing a glucose monitor in the illustration (though it’s not mentioned). The book also has a great message about anti- bullying. Though I did think the main characters was a little sassy (in an aggressive way) for my taste.

Rose is a normal girl who loves to dance and go to the library...and she is deaf. When several of her classmates pick on her, she and her best friend figure out what they can do about it. A sweet pretty book showing one way to deal with a situation of bullying.

I love diversity in Childrens books. I think it helps bring awareness to kids and help them to identify and appreciate differences. It is one thing to write a character with a hearing impairment but another to do so and not have any words to try being the experience to readers.

I loved that this book features a young girl who is deaf as the main character. It felt approachable to kids, and would definitely allow young readers and their families to learn more about the experiences if a person who is deaf. It showcases Rose's weekly routine, and the ways in which she is similar to other children in going to school, having a friend, going to the library with her mom, and going to dance class. It also showcases the differences such as Rose having an interpreter with her at school, and Rose communicating with sign language or a communication book. When Rose faces bullying at the library, she decides to be kind and help educate her classmates with the help of her friend, rather than get even with them. Overall, I thought this was a great book and that it would be helpful in classrooms and for young children and their families. I loved the message of kindness! Thank you to NetGalley for providing me a copy of this book!

Thank you, Fostering Adaptation, for the copy.

I feel this book is really important and must be read along with a guardian or a parent to know what bullying is, how to handle it, take help whenever necessary or possible. I love the representation of characters of different backgrounds. The main focus is on our main character who is a differently abled person who relies on sign language to communicate and is struggling everyday.

I find the illustrations quite apt and perfect.

Kudos to the team.
