Read if you like:
- twissssssty thrillers 💀
- multiple POV
- short chapters 💕
- kidnapping scheme

This book starts with my absolutely favourite thriller format: height of action right at the beginning and then works back through to tell the whole story. This is my favourite format because it literally makes it impossible to not be immediately gripped and sucked into the story. Once I read that very first chapter I couldn’t stop reading, and I read the whole through thing through in one sitting 🤪
I love a multi-POV so I can see more than one side of the story at the same time, and then piece together the puzzle as I read through the story.
There was a lottttttt going on this story! Although I will admit it was kind of slow to get going, but once it got going… it got GOING! There were some crazy twists that I definitely didn’t see coming. The way the story all wrapped together in the end was insane. What an entertaining read!
The main characters (with the exception of one-I’ll let you figure that one out yourself 🤪) we’re extremely likeable and I found myself rooting for the “good guys” to triumph in the end.
I really like Miranda Rijks and I know I can always count on her for a twisty, gripping story that never disappoints! I will definitely be reading all of her future books as well 💕

I have been working with the author on Instagram doing book features and cover reveals for a while and this is the first I've actually read.

This book is one of those books that you don't really like any of the characters but you read because you just have tonknownwhats going on. A very good book and I was surprised at the end. I knew half of what happened or the who. I didn't see the other people at all which is always nice.

Another gripping Miranda Rijks read. I have read every book written by this author and every time she hooks me with her synopsis and before too long I am reading it cover to cover as fast as I can turn the pages. Fast paced psychological thrillers that consistently win me over and I can’t get enough of her writing. Intriguing characters and I can forgive the occasional hard to believe plots because they are so enjoyable to read.

The lead character Simone is riddled with grief when she hears her sister Ally has been killed in a car crash. Ally was an actress working for Goldie and Braun Delucci who run a major film production company. Simone has serious doubts and unanswered questions surrounding the circumstances around Ally’s death.. With no help coming from the police she decides to take matters into her own hands and manages to get hired as a private assistant working directly for Goldie Delucci. Keeping her relationship to Ally a secret from her employees she intends to dig for the truth surrounding her sisters death. She needs to know what really happened on that fatal night as the police explanation just doesn’t add up in her mind. But even with Simone’s suspicions she still wasn’t expecting to discover the terrible secret the Delucci's are hiding and threatens to put her own life in danger.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Inkubator books for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

3.5
I didn't connect to the characters in the way that I had hoped I would. There were some very high stakes situations that I felt lacked tension. That being said, I did still very much enjoy the story. It was well-written and was void of any plot holes.

I really enjoyed this. I knew I was going to love it from the first page. It just gripped me and drew me in.

When Simone's sister Ally dies under mysterious circumstances, Simone is determined to find out what really happened. She will even go as far as getting a job with Ally's former employers, a powerful couple who run the production company where Ally was employed.

I was completely entertained the entire time. I loved how the perspective changed from Simone, to Goldie, to Rose, Goldie's badly-behaved daughter. There were a couple of plot points that I found a bit silly, but it did not really deter my enjoyment of the book. I would recommend this and will definitely check out this author's other works.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I like Miranda Rijks books for the quick read they give. This one too is another interesting. Told from the POV of 3 people, Simone, Goldie and Rose, it manages to hold ones attention and makes for a good read

Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator books for the ARC

Very engaging, organized so it wasn’t confusing switching points of view. Sometimes a little too much detail and a little cheesy. But overall, a good read that kept my attention and had dynamic characters with complicated twists.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of The Concierge!

Told from three POVs; Simone, the older sister of Ally who is found dead after a car crash. Goldie, wife of Braun and mother of Florian and Rose. Also the brains behind Delucci production. Rose, teenage rebel daughter of Goldie and Braun.

Simone finds Ally’s death suspicious and begins working for Ally’s old bosses, Goldie and Braun.

I want to start by saying I’d hadn’t read a Miranda Rijks book previously, so I didn’t know what her writing style would be like.

What I liked:
- Very fast faced, I finished this in a few hours.

What I didn’t like:
- Goldie was dense, and gave me whiplash. One second she’d be defending her daughter and the next she’d be ready to kick her out.
- Rose was a sociopath, and repeatedly proved herself to be but was still entrusted to watch Simone’s niece. Literally made no sense. Simone and rose despised each other. I wouldn’t put my 4 year old niece in the care of someone who tried to get me fired and said I was an alcoholic. Maybe that’s just me, idk
- Goldie and Braun bring flat out awful parents with no redeeming qualities.

- Ending was so rushed

Probably won’t read another of this authors, just not my style of mystery.

Thank you NetGalley and Inkubator Books!

Zero to a hundred real real quick.

Throughout the first half of this book I was so hyper fixated on this one event that when all else hits the fan I was completely blindsided. Went from a cozy mystery to a thriller in a snap of a finger. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it!

Book Title: The Concierge
Author: Miranda Rijks
Publisher: Inkubator Books
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Pub Date: December 13, 2022
My Rating: 3.3 stars

Story is told from the POV of Goldie, Rose and Simone.
Goldie and Braun Delucci run a successful production company; they are wealthy with two children, a daughter Rose (17), and a son, Florian (13).
They have an entire staff and a personal concierge (which is more prestigious than a personal assistant). This person is a housekeeper-nanny, and does whatever is asked. The concierge lives onsite in a basement flat which is really an apartment
Tragedy strikes the production company when the star Ally, is killed in an auto accident.
Ally's sister Simone is suspicious of Ally’s death and believe the Delucci's know more than they are saying, Simone goes undercover as the concierge to infiltrate the family and won’t give up until she discovers the truth behind Ally's death.
Simone knows she needs to get to know the previous concierge Lauren Barton who was let go.
It appears Rose Delucci, the rebellious batty daughter, set-up Lauren to be terminated. Delighted to see Rose soften a bit

Although I liked this - I was a disappointed that it didn’t ‘fit’ the normal twists and turns that I love and expect from a psychological thriller.
I am stingy with stars. I rate 3 stars as good; I believe this is a tad better than a 3 but not great to earn 4 stars!

As always I love reading the author’s note and Acknowledgements as typically they give us the inside scoop on their motivation or inspiration in writing the story.
In [author: Miranda Rijka]’s “Letter to Miranda she tells us a about her dedicating this book to the memory of her best friend Rosamund Smith who was killed in a road traffic accident.

Want to thank NetGalley and Inkubator Books for this early eGalley.

I was intrigued by the summary of this book but it fell a little flat for me. It took quite awhile to pick up and I never really got invested in any of th characters. Luckily the last quarter of th book did get more interesting making it an overall 3 ⭐ thriller for me.

It got me hooked on the first few chapters, then it slowed down a bit before picking up..

The plot of this story seemed a bit unbelieveable - I found it hard to get past this point unfortunately. The characters were well developed which kept the story interesting. However the ending was a bit predictable and seemed to wrap things up too neatly.

Wow this book was so so good! I loved the characters so much, they were so well developed. You saw all of their flaws clearly but somehow still loved them entirely. The suspense, especially at the end, was heart pounding. The plot twists weren't as jaw dropping as most of Miranda Rijks books but that didn't stop this story from being one of my absolute favorites by her! Easy 5 stars, highly recommend!

Goldie and Braun Delucci run a relatively new film production company. They have two teenagers who are starving for their attention. They live in a mansion but are struggling to keep the business going after tragedy happens.
🎥
An actress, Ally died in one of their company cars. The coroner found drugs in her system, but Ally’s sister knows this cannot be true.
🎥
Simone, Ally’s sister finds a creative way to enter the Deluccis lives as a concierge under false pretenses. She has to find out what happened to her sister.
🎥
This story is full of twists, and scenarios that I read in one sitting because it kept me engaged the entire time. This is my third novel by this author and I am never disappointed.

**Out December 13.**

This is her another fabulous read by Miranda Rijks. The plot is original, intriguing and drew me in quickly. Once I started it, I couldn’t put it down and finished it over a couple of days.
There were lots of twists and turns throughout and well developed character. It’s a great domestic thriller.

Miranda Rijks, The Concierge, Inkubator Books Dec 2022

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this uncorrected proof for review.

The pace of the story overcomes the implausibility of some of the earlier plotting which is quite absorbing. Ally, an aspiring actress, is killed in a car crash, leaving behind her grieving husband, four-year-old daughter and older sister, Simone. The sisters’ parents are dead, and Simone has taken much of the responsibility for Ally; she now feels that she must do the same for her niece. However, uppermost in her mind are questions about her sister’s death: why was she in her employer’s car? Why did the autopsy reveal that Ally had taken drugs? Are her employers, the film producer and director, Goldie and Braun Delucci implicated in Ally’s death?
Simone begins to investigate, becoming involved in the Delucci’s lives and having to deal with their aggressive daughter and emotionally fragile son. As the Delucci’s employee she meets the former ‘concierge’ (the name used here for an executive assistant with domestic responsibilities), another employee, and a motor bike riding stranger. Simone’s activities are enlightening, but also fraught – she is pushed into the road, almost coming to grief under a bus.

Miranda Rijks has a capacity for developing characters who are multi-dimensional so that it is wise to realise that there is always more to know about them. In turn, the characters often find that they do not know all about those closest to them, making their assessments questionable and keeping the reader alert to unintentional misinformation.

All these features make for a good read. Although I felt that the plot floundered a little at the end, I also found The Concierge a good read with enough to keep me engaged at the beach, by the pool or for a couple of hours by a warm fire.

Thank you NetGalley, Inkubator Books and Miranda Rijks an advanced copy of “The Concierge “ in exchange for an honest review.

This is the fourth book Miranda Rijks has published this year and my first book from this author.

There are three different POV’s. Simone, Goldie and her daughter Rose. The story is face paced which I enjoyed. A good book and a quick read. I will look for this author again in the future.
