Got mixed up and got this in ebook and audio format but as this author is one on my go to list I was happy to have both. The story is a bit dark for my liking and i much preferred Robert Bryndza’s earlier work. I was much more. interested in Kate Marshall when she was a police officer than in her current PI job but that is personal taste.
All the thrills and spills you would expect from this author with a big surprise thrown in for good measure.
Unfortunately the narrator wasn’t one I enjoyed listening to but I see from other reviewers comments I’m in the minority ( and happy to be so … I couldn’t narrate a book to save my life!)

In the fourth Kate Marshall thriller, the PI is recuperating from a near death experience when she almost drowns during a swim. While at the hospital, Kate strikes up a conversation with Jean, another patient who talks about her then three year old grandson, who disappeared on a camping trip eleven years before. Kate agrees to take on the case, to try to what happened to the kittle boy, but she soon discovers that Jean didn't tell her everything. Something in Jean's past could be the reason the little boy was taken - or worse. I love this series, Kate is a strong and believable character who doesn't shy from dark or ugly cases, she does what needs doing to solve her case

I really enjoyed listening to this on audio as it gave the characters a bit more personality and when I read the second half on audio book I found myself relating and visualising the characters better which meant that I got into the book more.

If you pick up just one thriller this year make it this one!

Devil's Way (Detective Kate Marshall) by Robert Bryndza
Book and Audiobook Review
Narrated by Jan Cramer - Audiobook 9 hours, 2 minutes
Rating: 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Robert Bryndza has written an amazing and stunning thriller. It's a terrific choice whether you enjoy reading books or listening to audiobooks. My attention was captured from the first chapter until the very end. This story is full of action, and I enjoyed every minute of the plot.

Synopsis:
During a hospital stay, Detective Kate Marshall meets Jean, an older woman on the same ward. Jean tells Kate that on a camping trip on Dartmoor eleven years ago, Jean's three-year-old grandson Charlie disappeared.

When Kate is released from the hospital she agrees to look into Charlie's case. Was Charlie kidnapped? Could he have drowned in Devil's Way, the nearby rushing river that flows into a gorge near where they camped?

Devil's Way book and audiobook will be available on January 12th.

Thank you NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing for sharing this exciting book and audiobook with me. This book is very well written and Jan Cramer's narration is excellent. Congratulations Robert Bryndza!
