The Serial Killer’s Sister just didn’t live up to me expectations. I didn’t finish it unfortunately.

I didn't realise this was the third book in a series, it does say it can be a stand alone novel, the two main characters were a bit strange and not really very likable, it was a bit of a weird ending, not a great read for me

A year ago I read A Serial Killer’s wife by the same author and honestly, I already loved the writing which is easy to read and straight-forward, loved the fast pace, loved the intrigue, so I was so excited when I got this ARC!

Just a note: You do not need to have read the other two books of the series because they aren’t linked to each other so you can read them in any order you want. I haven’t read one of the three books because I know they’re not interconnected.

Synopsis:
Anna Price was raised in foster care with her younger brother, but despite her rough upbringing, she now has a perfect life with her husband, living in a seaside home and teaching children…Until the police shows up at her doorstep.
Her estranged brother is a serial killer and they need her help catching him. Only issue? Henry wants to play an old game with Anna, and he starts by leaving an enveloppe on her doorstep.
Game on?

I read this in less than 24 hours because it is gripping. The pacing is, as always, fast but not rushed. I never found myself bored. You go back and forth between past and present, with some ominous chapters from the POV of Henry…There aren’t a lot of gruesome details, which is interesting because the author didn’t need to rely on bloody descriptions to put you on the edge of your seat. The last 10% of the books was INTENSE, I did NOT see the twists (plural) coming.

The entire book happens in the course of a few days as Anna and the police race against the clock to find Henry, follow the clues and Anna’s entire life starts to break apart. I honestly think Alice Hunter is now an automatic buy for my crime novel/thriller cravings.
I can’t say much more without risking spoilers, but I would advise going in as blindly as possible anyways. If the premise interests you and you want a fast-paced thrilling read, this one is for you!

Anna Price finds out that her brother is a serial killer they both had a harrowing childhood and ended up in a childrens home the police want to know what a particular date means to the killer but Anna says she doesn’t know but she could be the next victim.

I have to say I found it a bit unrealistic as there were no Police procedures about the murderers so couldn’t quite fathom it out.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC

Wow! Wow! Wow! What a book.
This has to be my favourite thriller of 2023 so far.
I devoured this book in a day.
Just when I thought I’d been had by a twist, more kept coming.
I even had to go back and re-read some chapters to make sure I hadn’t missed something.
Alice Hunter’s writing is just so clever that I never saw it coming.
The Serial Killer’s Wife was one of my favourite books of 2022, I loved The Serial Killer’s Daughter so I was so excited to get the ARC for this instalment of the series.

Anna Price didn’t have the best start as a child. Growing up in a children’s home, she has managed to build a life for herself with a lovely home, loving husband and a teaching job she loves. All of this comes crashing to the ground, however, when the police turn up at her door telling her that the brother she has not seen since she was a child is a wanted serial killer and that her help is needed to catch him. When an envelope turns up on her doorstep inviting her to play a game they used to play as children, Anna knows that there is more at stake this time – her life depends on it.

This is the third of Alice Hunter’s ‘Serial Killer’ books (The Serial Kller’s Wife. The Serial Killer’s Daughter) but the stories are not connected in any way so you don’t need to have read the others before this one. From the start, we have sympathy for Anna, a woman who starts the day like every other but by lunchtime finds herself suspended from work and terrified by the knowledge that her brother is a serial killer. Things don’t get any better for her as the book progresses as she finds herself in a race against time to stop herself from becoming the next victim.

As in Alice Hunter’s previous books, we know that there are going to be some twists along the way and in The Serial Killer’s Sister, we get twists aplenty. I did have my suspicions throughout the book of what one of these could be and I was proven correct. Another one was a surprise, however, and made me re-evaluate what I had read.

I look forward to reading whatever Alice Hunter writes next.

That ending! That's one I did not see coming. I was obsessed with this book from the first chapter until the last. Alice’s best book yet!

Anna Price's early years were spent in the foster care system. Despite this, she has created what appears to be the ideal life for herself: a happy marriage and employment as a teacher at a prestigious institution. Unfortunately, the police then show up. Her brother Henry, who she hasn't seen in years, is a wanted serial killer, Detective Inspector Walker informs Anna. On two specific dates during the past three years, a woman has been killed. Anna's birthday is one of those times. The second date is just a few days away, and the police need Anna's assistance to get Henry in time to prevent the murder of another woman.

Anna arrives for work uneasy, but after an incident outside the school, she is suspended. When you think things can't get much worse, Anna finds a revelation that further disturbs her life. In the interim, envelopes are left at her door. They used to play a game called "The Hunt" when she and Henry were still living in the children's home. To complete the Hunt, Anna had to follow Henry's hints; failing to do so would have negative repercussions. Something from Anna's background she wants to keep hidden, but doing so could put her own life in jeopardy.

At this point in the book, the pace quickens and the wheels come off, at least for me. Why? Instead of being driven by a series of surprises, I was anticipating the tale to evolve. In addition, I didn't like any of the characters, and the conclusion seemed absurd.
Although there is a significant plot twist at the conclusion, I felt the story to be predictable, and it completely deviates from the previously stated narrative.

A fast-paced, gripping thriller that I couldn’t put down! I didn’t see some of the twists coming and was kept guessing throughout.

"The Serial Killer's Sister" is a gripping and thought-provoking novel that explores the themes of family, loyalty, and the complicated nature of human relationships. It is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers who enjoy complex characters and intricate plot twists. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

Alice Hunter you are just amazing!
With this being the third ‘Serial Killer’ book and having read the other two they just get better and better.
Brother and sister Henry and Anna spend most of their childhood in a children’s home where Anna makes friends but Henry remains alone and friendless. Henry appears to have some mental issues which become more apparent to Anna years after leaving the children’s home. This is such a fast paced thriller with twists and turns galore and a twist at the end that leaves you awestruck. I literally could not put it down.
A huge thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in return for an honest review.

When Anna Price answers the door to a policeman who wants to discuss her estranged brother and the deaths of five women over the last three years, the life she thought she'd left behind comes back to haunt her. DI Walker needs Anna's help, she's the one person that knows Henry and he thinks that the two dates each year may be significant and will lead them to catching him before someone else dies.

This latest in the series by Alice Hunter is a dual timeline, alternating between the present day and Anna's childhood. As with the previous two books in this series it's a fast paced read with an easy to follow storyline, which is quite graphic in places. I guessed one part of the main plot twist, but did find this twist a little far fetched, though it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the story in any way, the final twist was very unexpected though and this one did raise some questions! Although this is part of a series it can be read as a standalone and is definitely worth a read.

I'd like to thank Avon Books and Netgalley for the approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.

A rollercoaster of an novel, my first Alice Hunter book will read the previous book. Plenty of twists and turns thought I had figured it out almost right. Good characters well plotted. A good page turner.

Thanks to Netgalley and Avon Books for the ARC of this book.

Really enjoyed this book. The characters slotted together nicely and you always wanted to read the next chapter to see what would happen next and when it finally did it wasn’t as expected all along. I don’t normally like chapters that keep changing , then and now, but with this storyline it really worked.

Not sure that the title is absolutely the best as I’m not sure that I would pick it up off the shelf but it is certainly worth reading. Look forward to the author’s next book.

I’m afraid this book did nothing for me and I quicky lost interest. The writing was just about OK but very simplistic, I didn’t like any of the characters, and I found the whole story far-fetched to the point of being silly with nothing in the plot that I found exciting or thrilling. I had to force myself to keep turning the pages, and was happy to get to the end. Sorry, but thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.

And suddenly it's 8am...

I stayed up all night reading this. What a ride!
I received a free ebook copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I've since slept and can say with a clear head that this book is utterly engrossing. Originally, I thought I had figured out the twist, but it turns out that was one of many. It was very much worth the sleepless night.

After reading the first two books from this series, I couldn't wait to read the third and it did not disappoint! There was suspense, guessing, shocks and edge of your seat moments, right up until the last page. Just when I thought it had all unravelled, there was one last shocker on the last page. Please read, you won't be disappointed!
