How do you follow up The Housemaid?

One of 2022's bestselling kindle novels, on countless reviewers' book of the year lists, shortlisted for a Goodreads Choice Award, the book that unleashed Freida's powerful twisty magic on a much wider audience, as well as being optioned for a movie following a multi-studio bidding war.

Expectations are sky high for this book.

Millie 'The Housemaid' returns, a few years after the events of the first book she is working as a housemaid for a new household.

She's all on her own and struggling, her job's not secure, there’s no Plan B. She's got money worries, anxiety and a paranoid feeling that she's being followed.

NO SPOILERS - I'm not going far into the plot.

Millie is a character who doesn't go looking for trouble but somehow always seems to find it.

After a threat-filled prologue the book starts out at a good pace, setting all the characters up in their positions, an involving plot, you’re not exactly sure which direction it's going and then...

...it's like being struck by lightning! Shocking! Electrifying!

Everything suddenly springs to life, superbly executed original twists, ever-increasing pace, tension, threat, thrills and twists, right to the very end.

It goes without saying, Freida McFadden is one of the most consistently entertaining thriller writers, the Queen of pace, flow and big twists.

Her signature easy-flowing style with plenty of dry humour sparkles throughout The Housemaid's Secret.

I always recommend The Housemaid as the perfect introduction to Freida's books, I still do, it's a must read, especially now to fully appreciate the finely-tuned greatness of The Housemaid's Secret.

A drop everything, must, must, must read ASAP!

Probably my new favourite by Freida McFadden so far! The very highest praise I can give to a thriller.

Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Freida McFadden

Hold on tight... plot twists ahead!

Freida McFadden, the queen of plot twists, delivers another thrilling adventure with Millie, the Housemaid.

This is a real page-turner, but I love the short 3-4 page chapters that allow me to read a little at a time in between every day tasks. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of thrillers, suspense, and easy reads.

All I can say is WOW! Freida has done it again! The Housemaid sequel, The Housemaids Secret, is to die for. Literally. I was blessed to get this ARC from Bookouture and I feel like I’ve won the lottery!! I read this in a single sitting and just could not stop. It was a definite spine tingling, non stop twist page turner that I've come to love and expect. If you’ve never read Freida, you’re in for quite a ride!

THE HOUSEMAIDS SECRET is about Millie, who we know from THE HOUSEMAID. After everything that happened previously Millie just wants to work, have a normal life, and spent time with her normal boyfriend Brock. That is the last thing that’s going to happen for Millie when she starts working for a rich, powerful couple… but something isn’t right. What could it be? You will find out in true Freida fashion! Buckle up and get ready for a wild ride ladies and gentlemen!! Trust no one, and suspect everyone.

Just finished this book and OMG!!! This was such a good book. I was beginning to wonder if it would have a twist but of course it did, this is a Freida McFadden book. She did not disappoint. I’d love to see a third book in the Housemaid series. Millie is a great character that I can easily get behind. Great book. Highly recommend reading this if you’ve already read The Housemaid.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

3.75 stars!!! Absolutely wonderful! Great plot twist following the "hell hath no fury" storyline. I read it in one sitting and loved every second. I'm absolutely in love with the character Millie. She's a bada$$ and watching her growth was great. Another great book by Freida McFadden.

The Housemaid’s Secret by Freida McFadden

WOW - I was one of the lucky ones to be approved for an ARC from Bookouture and the oh-so-generous Freida herself!

Millie is stuck in a loveless relationship with a great (but not great for her) guy, just got fired from her deadend job and has thousands of dollars in student debt eating away at her. With a criminal record, it’s not that easy to find a worthy job in New York. Millie takes the bait when Douglas Garrick offers her a job at his luxury penthouse apartment. All she would have to do is basic household chores, cook dinner on occassion and stay out of the guest bedroom where his sick wife is layed up. Throughout Millie’s time in the Garrick’s penthouse, she quickly learns that Mr. Garrick is not the nice guy he portrays, he is a physically and mentally abusive husband. We all know, Millie can not let these details fly under her radar. She quickly takes action and things go downhill - FAST!

The Housemaid was the first book I read by McFadden and the Housemaid’s Secret was the sequel we NEEDED. This was so wonderfully written, kept me on my toes the entire time and gave a twist (or two…or three) that I did not see coming. I love sequels, but always worry that they will be too similar to the first story. This was not the case here. McFadden outdid herself, yet again, and created a storyline that keeps you wanting more. Buckle up! It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

I am so grateful to Freida McFadden, Bookouture, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC of The Housemaid's Secret. Thank you!!!

I have read a lot of books this year but few come close to books by Freida McFadden. I was blown away by The Housemaid so I was quite excited for the chance to read book two, The Housemaid's Secret. I blew through the book in just a few days and yet again my mind was blown!!!

Freida is a masterful storyteller who expertly weaves twists you never see coming. One thing I love about these books is that you think you have it figured out but by the end you realize you were completely wrong, every single time.

The Housemaid's Secret is another blockbuster thriller that will leave you guessing and grasping for answers. There were so many twists and my mind was spinning trying to figure out what was happening and how it was going to resolve. The ending of the book was so satisfying and really made you realize that Millie is a force to be reckoned with.

The Housemaid and The Housemaid's Secret are two of my top reads for 2022!!

Another great quality about Freida McFadden's books is that there is no language or sex scenes. These books are perfect for young readers who are dipping their toes into the suspense/thriller genres.

I give The Housemaid's Secret 5 stars!!!

Freida can do no wrong!!! Another fabulously twisted thriller!! My favorite thing about Freida's style is that you never really know what is going on in the story. Sometimes you think you do but BAM big fat twist!! Millie is back from The Housewife and is tangled up in a crazy household yet again. This boom is a can't miss. Highly recommen

I thank Freida McFadden for being one of the 100 from her Facebook group to get an early copy of ‘The Housemaid’s secret’ Wow, wow, wow this is another amazing book from the author. If you thought ‘The Housemaid’ was good this is even better. I loved it.
I am not going to give much away. Only today that this story is a continuation of Millie. After being fired from her babysitting job. She gets a job with multimillionaires The Garrick’s. Douglas Garrick is a CEO for a tech company, and they live in a beautiful penthouse. They offer Millie a job as a cleaner. But Millie wonders about Mrs Garrick’s behaviour. She is always locked in her room and her husband tells her that she sleeps a lot. But one day when Millie is hears her crying and knocks on her door t0 investigate. When Millie sees Mrs Garrick and is shocked what sees. This starts a whole catastrophic series of events.
I can’t describe properly how much I enjoyed this book. I read other people reviews and I thought, it can’t be that good, can it? But yes, it certainly was. This blew my mind. This book is intense, and the author is so good at playing with the reader’s mind and I thought very devious too. But in a good way not bad. I had to keep on reading. I loved the twists and turns in this book. I couldn’t get enough of them. If you loved the first book in the series, you will love this. Is there going to be a book three. I hope so. I highly recommend.

Wow! Is all I can say! Freida has done it again! This book deserves more than the allotted 5 stars! It is told from different perspectives and keeps you guessing. I did not want to put this book down once I had picked it up! I thought I had it all figured out. Of course in true Freida style I had no clue!!

I absolutely loved The Housemaid. 5⭐️ The ending totally left you to believe a part two was coming and so glad it did. In true Freida fashion for the first half of the book, your not quite sure what to believe. But that part two… I love how Frieda writes each main character in first person.
Millie has grown to love helping those who need help out of bad and sometimes abusive relationships. This is Millie and Wendy’s story. I gave this 5⭐️ too.

Freida does it again! It’s hard to write a sequel to anything and while it may not have been as good as the Housemaid, but it was pretty darn close. Lots of twists and turns in usual freida fashion. Read it in under 24 hours.

100% better than the original. All of her works are phenomenal, and this one is no different. But this one blew the first Housemaid out of the water. It was twisty and curvy, and I truly wasn’t expecting what was to come. I cannot wait for others to get to read this!!!

I was lucky enough to score one of the pre release copies of the sequel to The Housemaid, The Housemaid’s Secret. There are no spoilers in this review so rest assured, I won’t give anything away. I’m probably gonna ramble though so I’m sorry in advance for that.

I think this might be the first time I’ve loved both books in a series equally.

I’m the type of person who gets so distracted if there are a lot of twists in a story especially if they aren’t well developed twists. Well…with Freida books that NEVER happens to me. She throws all of this information at the reader and we are instantly immersed…we feel as though we are part of the story. She writes so well…the words she writes take up residence in my brain and I’m totally invested. I love books like that and I’m in awe of authors who make it seem so effortless.

There were so many times that I thought I had things figured out and I was wrong. I’m almost always wrong when I read her books and I love it.

I enjoyed every minute of this book. I loved the story arc, the characters, the suspense and of course THE TWISTS!

FYI - While her books are intense, teenagers could also totally read her books (no foul language or highly sexual situations).

I highly recommend everything Freida McFadden writes.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC for this book and oh my god it was amazing.
It followed on from the first book so well. It expanded on the main characters perfectly.
I absolutely adored Millie and Enzo's relationship, it was so warm and cosy.

The plot twist at the end was in true Freida fashion, unexpected and amazing. I never, ever would have been able to guess it.

Thank you Freida for another amazing book!

Everyone’s favorite housemaid is back. In this story, Millie is working to build a better life for herself and leave the past behind her. She is going back to school, has a new job, and is in a stable relationship. Then, Millie loses her job and quickly needs to find another family to work for. Millie cannot seem to escape her past and once again she finds herself working for a family that is harboring as many secrets as she is. You never know what you will find behind closed doors. This book will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see how this story unfolds. I highly recommend this sequel- you will not be disappointed!

I went into this read blind and in true Freida McFadden fashion I never saw the end coming. I love the twists and turns. I love how each character is so unique but so relatable. You get sucked right into the storylone and feel you are there. Highly recommend.

4.75⭐️

I loved The Housemaid, so was keen to read the sequel.
Millie the maid has moved on, but having problems hanging on to a job.

The prologue certainly grabbed me by the throat. What an entrance!
The story is told from 2 POV, Millie and Wendy.

I love the light easy going writing style and the humour. Millie comes over as quite care free and a little innocent, the reader knows from the previous book that she has a dark past, she alludes to it during the early stages of the book. I was engaged with Millie, rooting for her.

What an intricate web the author weaves with this plot.
There were a couple of points where I felt Milly was slow on the uptake with what was happening/ what she should have thought about.
It’s a quick easy entertaining read, it kept my attention without any lag in pace. I loved it, and wonder if there will be another Millie book.
