This picture book tells the story of a dog named Sally and her first day of school (obedience). There is a very small amount of text per page and it is a fairly large, accessible font. It is perfect for young readers who are excited to start reading with increasing independence but would become overwhelmed by large amounts of text. The illustrations are large and colourful, though the drawings/outlines of the characters are a bit simplistic. I can see young readers enjoying this book. I would recommend it to parents of children in the age 3-6 range. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!

I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.

This was a very short book about a young puppy going to puppy school. On the way to school, Sally sees several different pups that are also heading to puppy school. At school she learns how to sit, but it takes a few tries before she really gets the concept down.

The illustrations were bright and whimsical and finding the hiding bunnies was mildly amusing for me. I wouldn't want to read this story too terribly often, but the occasional re-read wouldn't make me want to claw my eyes out either. And it does have the brevity on it's side for extra re-reads.

Overall I give it 3.3 out of 5 stars.

This was an adorable story about a pups first day at puppy school. The illustrations and colors are vibrant and eye-catching and just simply cute! I loved Sally's first day can be compared to a child's first day of school in that they are thrown into a new environment with all kinds of new things that can be distracting. Showing dogs of different breeds, sizes and colors also add to this by showing the diversity of Sally's pup classmates. Overall and adorable book!

I thought the book was confusing. It’s about a pup going to puppy school for the first time. What confused me was the end page and what he had dreams about. It just didn’t figure into the story for me. The rest of the story was cute and entertaining. I also thought the illustrations needed some more color and brightness.

On the surface, this is simply a sweet story about a puppy's first day of puppy school. She's excited to meet all the other puppies, doesn't quite know what to expect, and is willing but easily distracted. If you've ever had a puppy, you know what I mean.

Look deeper, however, and there is much, much more to this short story. Sally is the perfect corollary to human children first venturing out into the world and being almost overwhelmed by all it throws at them, often simultaneously. Along the way, she meets other pups, pups of all sizes, shapes, and colors. They are all puppies underneath all that fur, however. Some are amazing calm and listen to their human parents attentively. Others, like Sally, are easily distracted, full of energy, and find it hard to focus on the task at hand, "Sit".

Remind you of any children you know? Sitting still and listening doesn't come easy to many, such as Sally. Heck, recess, so to speak, is her favorite subject. Yet, she wants to please. She's lucky to have a patient teacher with a sense of humor, and keeps trying. But, oh, my, so many distractions. She eventually figures it out, however, perhaps learning from others' example as much as the calm repetition.

Now, true, Sally, much like me own no-longer-a-puppy dog may dream of rabbits, but this just shows her curiosity. Like children, she wants to learn about her world and all it has to offer. She just needs our patience to encourage her to "try, try, and try again".

Thanks to #NetGalley and #OrcaBookPublishers for allowing me to meet Sally. From Lo's sweet, whimsical artwork capturing Sally's day, to author Larsen's deftly subtle reminder that being a pup, human or canine, is full of wonder and distractions as we learn a bit more each day. Thoroughly enjoyed it and feel there's a message here for humans of, well, all sizes, shapes, and colors.

Sally, an adorable playful little puppy, is starting her first day of puppy school. She is excited and immediately discovers there are many distractions there as so many new things are taking place all around her.

She encounters many other puppies of all shapes and sizes waiting for school to begin also. She meets a lady teacher that she is unfamiliar with who gives her instructions that she is to obey. Sally does not respond correctly to her teacher's commands because it's way more fun sniffing things rather than obeying what she is asked to do.

After a lovely bowl of water at recess and some play time with the other pups it's focus time once again. Class starts and Sally is instructed to "sit" but does she? No..... she squats and pees! Oh my! Will Sally ever get the hang of puppy school and finally achieve success?

Puppies mirror little kid's behaviours with their curiosity, energy and playfulness. They both love to explore and learn about their world around them. This sweet story will give confidence to young readers as they venture into the world to learn and try new things.

The adorable illustrations include a rabbit hidden in most spreads for a search and find activity. I love the book and highly recommend it.
