This is a decent effort. It's a little off-center, which is a good start. It just didn't come together for me. I expect a mixed reaction for this book. It's not bad, not great.

Thanks very much for the free review copy for review!!

I’m not actually a fan of espionage stories, but this one promised New Espionage and made it sound all exciting. And was short enough to check out based on intrigue and cover appeal alone, so there…
Since I’m the first to actually review this book with words–here are some words…
It’s quirky. That much is certain. The vibe the author was going for seems to be something like darkly humorous Black Mirror episodes…maybe on some light acid? Maybe trying to sound like George Saunders?
But the latter has perfected a peculiar brand of stylized subversive absurdity and here it was…not quite there. Or at least it didn’t do much for me. Conceptually it was interesting and fun, execution left something to be desired, going overboard on quirky and turning up the weird factor to a pitching volume.
So yeah, didn’t quite work for me, but then again, didn’t take up much time either. Thanks Netgalley.
