Everything is Fine is the perfect uncanny comic.

Are you after creeping dread and sinister undertones with the cutest are ever? Than this is the comic for you!

The tale of a perfect husband and wife in a beautiful neighbourhood falls apart on the best way in this one! The slow building, the hints that everything is not as it seems come together in the most perfect what the heck moment!

I've followed Everything is Fine from it's very beginnings as a Webtoon, so to see it traditionally published brings me so much joy! More people need to read this!

Delightfully macabre this comic is one of the most unsettling stories, paired with the cute art, it only heightens the horror.

I'm a sucker for stories about the rot below the surface of the typical idyllic middle class suburban life, and this one does not disappoint. I look forward to reading the rest of this story.

An incredibly spooky start to the series! I first read this story online via the webtoon app and instantly felt drawn in by the mysterious and somewhat off-putting "masks" that the characters were seemingly forced to wear. My curiousity only grew with each chapter, so I'm delighted to see that this series is finally getting the love it deserves and being published as a graphic novel!

At the moment it feels like we're watching a slow train-wreck, with the characters gradually discovering worse secrets as the story progresses. It puts you in the mind of horror movies where there's a monster in the corner, and you know it's RIGHT THERE, but you refuse to turn and make eye-contact.. The tension is just building up!

Will definitely be continuing the series from here!

Everything is Fine Volume One
by Mike Birchall

Everything is Fine by Mike Birchall takes a leap into the Twilight Zone. From the cover illustration, we can guess that everything is not fine. The characters go about their days exchanging niceties and bantering with their neighbors. The pastel colors reinforce the washed out feel of their lives. Despite the lighthearted conversation, we sense a darker force simmering. One which can turn these neighbors against each other. One that might just wipe the smiles from their faces.

This graphic novel lures you into a sense of complacency then turns around and hits you right between the eyes with something disturbing or gets you really thinking. I actually took notes about my thoughts & discussed it with my husband. The note taking is something I rarely do & my husband isn’t much of a reader but he loves web comics & graphic novels – the darker & more thought provoking the better.

I would like to thank WEBTOON Unscrolled, Mike Birchall & NetGalley for the chance to read this disturbing little thriller. I’m not sure if it is just how the arc galley formatting but it made it hard to read & follow because the text wasn’t in its usual place like the web version. I highly recommend reading it on a color device if reading digitally otherwise small details will be missed and as a graphic novel j highly recommend reading it in print.

Ye gods, this was good! This checked so many boxes for me that I don't know where to begin. I'm not even going to try to get into what's going on in this, because I just don't know. Something is happening, and it's sinister, it's menacing, and it's vague, which fits the story very well - residents are encouraged to forget certain things. So by the end of this volume, while I do have some idea of what's going on, it isn't more than what the description tells us. I'm fine with this, I love this in fact, so if you like a slow-burn social horror like I do, you are gonna really dig this! I can see that this isn't gonna be a story for everyone, but omg, it was totally my jam. I can't think of anything I disliked, it was so deliciously odd with the cat heads (I'm still not sure what's going on with that), and what's up with the tuna cans? and the quietly ominous vibe, and that ending! and I can't wait to get the next volume so I can get more vague slow burn social horror that I *won't* read right before bed again!

I was given an advanced reader copy of this book, finished the whole thing in one sitting, and went on to read the rest of what’s published on Webtoons in the SAME sitting, because wow! WOW! What a story! What a setting!

I am so desperately curious about this world. It’s an idyllic place. It’s a horrific utopia. If you can play the game, you’re promised a paradise. You don’t die if you lose, but something far worse happens. Both to themselves, and to those they love the most.

This book is just the start of the story of Sam and Maggie. They are a very happy couple, in a very 1950s, “Leave It To Beaver” kind of household. He works…somewhere. She shops at…the store. And their neighbors invite them over for drinks. And conspiracy! Everyone wants to go to Lakeview, and the best way to get there is to prove you’re a happy, active, model citizen. Or…that someone else ISN’T.

The cat faces get creepy real fast. And I love it. A brilliant artistic choice, to make the art faster (and damn, the production speed of the artist!), while also amplifying the horror.

I can’t wait until the comic picks up again from the scheduled hiatus. This is definitely going to get my to buy some Webtoon credits, to keep up with things the second they come out!

Book Summary:

We all like to think we live in a perfectly normal neighborhood. But what happens when we focus too hard on being “normal” and “fine?”

Sam and Maggie live in a neighborhood that they would like to describe as perfectly normal. But the idea of normal is fracturing. Their normal dog is actually quite dead. Their facade is crumbling, and their emotions are...disconnected.

My Review:

If you've spent any time on Webtoon, you've probably seen Everything is Fine floating around. Still, I was curious to check out the graphic novel version – and I'm glad I did! Everything is Fine Vol. 1 is dark, twisted, and so much fun.

I think this is one of those reviews where less is more. You're going to want to dive in knowing as little as possible – trust me. It will enhance the experience. Enjoy!

This was an excellent read. I have been a fan of this Webtoon for quite sometime. I do think it better serves the format of Webtoon, but its certainly not bad as a complete book. Imagine 1984 but as a graphic novel with cute cat heads. I would recommend this for YA and New Adult readers, those who are fans of dystopian fiction, graphic novels, and other “big brothers watching” vibes. I really enjoy the visual element of the cat heads. You’ve got a story with so many elements of thriller/horror, and then you’ve got these stuffed cat heads that are always smiling (think Mickey Mouse Mascot Head on a human body). The opposition between visually, always smiling faces, and fire blazing around them in the background is a 10/10 for me.

I had no expectations when I started reading this book, but I'm glad I approached it with an open mind. It turned out to be a fast-paced graphic novel with a touch of cute horror. The reading experience was initially challenging, but it became easier to follow as I got further into it.

Typically, this differs from the kind of graphic novel I would naturally be drawn to, but I'm happy I had the opportunity to try it. It's always great to step out of your comfort zone and discover something new and unexpected.

The cover is what pulled me in; the story is what kept me there. This was so much fun! The fact that everything is certainly NOT fine in this book is what makes it such a fun, eerie, and entertaining read.

This is a thrilling graphic novel.
At first, the story is very confusing, there are a lot of unanswered questions but they are answered slowly. The artwork is awesome and cute, but the story is evil and scary, the not knowing what can happen next is the scary part.
I will definitely be keeping my eye out for future volumes

A feat of worldbuilding with exposition in all the right places, that left me in agonizing anticipation for each successive page. I still feel uncertain about what is going on, but in an extremely positive way. Horrifying, unsettling, and weirdly adorable. I expected to be intrigued, but did not expect to love it as much as I did. I'm going to be thinking about this book nonstop for days.

This was juicy story with very interesting art. I really enjoyed the pacing. I initially picked this up because the cover was super intriguing, and I definitely wasn't disappointed. Thank you for the opportunity to read this early!

I adore this series! I've read the webtoon for so long and the moment I saw that it was getting a physical edition I knew I had to read it again in all its glory! I don't want to say to much in my review because this is a story best to go into blind because the main draw to this story is the question it raises and the mystery the story is soaked it.
If you love mystery and never knowing what is going on or who can be trusted this series is a must read. It's what I call a "cute" horror because it looks like a cute fun series that could just be another slice of life comic, but then it hits you "wow this is f-ing scary man".
I can't recommend this series enough but please make sure to take a look at any possible triggers found within the story. I want everyone to enjoy this story but not at the risk of mental health because it is a horror series first and foremost.

The plot was pretty interesting and intriguing. Definitely I want to read more because THAT ENDING gave me chills! And of course the path that lead to the characters there was so cool and interesting because it had so many secrets and layers and I absolutely like it.

I have some mixed feelings on this comic. I am very curious to read volume two because this one left me with a lot of questions. That being said, I'm not sure yet if I'd actually recommend it to anyone. There is some violence in the book, and some of it was just confusing, but I did finish it quickly and want to read the next one.

While the story is intriguing, I think the story is much better suited to the online Webtoon format than it is for a traditional graphic novel digital/physical format. The general layout and large-masked characters didn't lend themselves well to a smooth reading experience. Even though it ended on a cliffhanger, I hadn't been fully drawn in and didn't feel invested enough to seek out the rest of the volumes.

Burchall is incredibly talented as this was the first thrilling page-turner I’ve read in years that has genuinely had me on the edge of my seat! Vol 2 is on Webtoons and I’m already devouring that as well! The juxtaposition between the clean art style and the creepy story was everything I wanted! Highly recommend!
