I'm so confused!

This book grabbed my attention from page one and I absolutely sped through it in one sitting. The palpable tension; the suffocating surveillance and constant risk of betrayal... I need to know more and volume 2 isn't out until October! I will definitely be waiting impatiently for that.

The storyline is so bizarre, yet woven into a worryingly "normal" setting. A kind of very possible, not-as-distant-as-we'd-like, dystopian society. Feverish, chilling, and totally captivating.

Volume 1 gets an easy five stars from me.

Content warnings for gore, death, violence, and in my opinion, it may be unwise to read this book if you have any struggles with mental health conditions including paranoia/delusions/intrusive thoughts about being under surveillance/followed/monitored.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley for review purposes.

3,5⭐️
I got this arc from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the vibes of this book, I always wanted to find out what was behind the whole story.

We see the story of an apparently normal family, their thoughts, their almost monotonous days.
Until something starts happening in the story, but it doesn't take the turn the reader might think and it gets very dark.

Every word, every action made me devour the story.
Can't wait to continue.
I want to explore a lot more about the wife's story and I want to understand the neighbors' reasons and all the answers that have not yet been given to us

I loved this when I first read it as a webtoon and I think it translated beautifully to novel format. Definitely going to purchase for the library

The moment I saw the cover of this book, I knew I had to read it! As a fan of horror and mystery I really enjoyed it. The plot kept me intrigued the whole time and I read the whole thing pretty quickly as I wanted to get to the end to see what happens! I got a lot of Stepford Wives/Don't Worry Darling vibes from the story, which I really liked, but of course there are many unanswered questions that will hopefully get answered in the next volume. The artwork is beautifully done, clean and easy to look at. My only critique is that I felt that some scenes were a bit awkward in this medium and would make more sense if it was a movie or a show, but maybe that's just me. All in all it was a very enjoyable read and I can't wait for the next volume! Thanks to NetGalley and WEBTOON Unscrolled for providing me with a copy.

Horror done right. Seriously I was on the edge of my seat in curiosity and fear. I feel like it left a lot of unresolved questions but hopefully later volumes can answer them (hence the one star). That being said I’m unsure if I’ll want to keep reading 😅 I’ve kinda placed a pause on horror.

A strange story where everyone wears giant cat heads but are otherwise human. They live in a Stepford Wives type setting where on the surface everything looks great but you can see things beginning to crack for some of the people. I'm curious where this lands in the rest of the story of this webcomic as nothing as been presented but the status quo of monotony and sameness.

In comic CWs: Grief, death, gore, depression, contemplation of suicide

I'm going to be honest - I've actually read this before, while it was coming out on Webtoon. I mean, it still technically is, but like, these episodes specifically. Everything is Fine is so absurdly unrealistic and yet so similar to a Hollywood take on a 1950s suburb that it's unnerving. It's like a more suspenseful, sickeningly gorey version of the Stepford Wives (or that Florence Pough and Harry Styles movie knockoff I suppose, though I haven't actually seen it myself for comparison). In a sick way, the violence is refreshing, if for no other reason than it breaking up the eerie monotony of what this story would be without the acts of rebellion against this mysterious dystopia.

As for the comic's visuals, I loved how Birchall used the panels on the app, and thought that they transferred into a more traditional comic page pretty well. There were definitely a few scenes I thought were more impactful in the long scrolling app format, rather than on a page, but it wasn't enough that I felt it drastically took away from the story. Also, the color palette is just *chef's kiss*. The washed out pastels contrast beautifully with the sickening reds and greens, passive colors until things well aren't anymore.

Overall I highly recommend Everything is Fine, it's creepy and unnerving, and the story unfolds beautifully due to Birchall's art and storytelling. I tend to not get too unsettled from horror, but this does the trick for me!

So how can I read the next volume asap?! I was so confused when I first started reading, but the graphics were amazing and the story was just too interesting to stop. And it just developed with enough thrill to keep me going. And then the ending is just too big of a cliff to wait forever!

Everything is Fine! Don't worry about it!

Honestly, it's really hard to say too much about this delightfully creepy, not everything is as it seems webtoon-turned-book. I've been a fan of the webtoon for a while, after I saw it popping up everywhere. Even as a fan of the ongoing webtoon that knows where this story is starting to go, it's amazing what's set up from the very beginning. I recommend this for anyone that likes the more psychological-type horror where Everything is Fine! I promise.

Will I be buying a hard copy of this when it releases? YES!
Will I keep rereading this entire series? Also yes!
Are there still plot points that aren't fully explained that I really hope get explained eventually? Also also yes!

Overall rating: 5/5, 10000% recommend.

Forgive me, book gods, because I definitely judged this graphic novel by its cover (and initial panels).

I'm not a webtoons reader so I hadn't heard of this, but I think this story will slowly convert me to a webtoons fan. At first, I thought the art was too simplistic and didn't convey any emotion. (The characters' facial expressions barely ever change.) But the more that I read, the more that I started to appreciate the minimalist art and straightforward story. The clean lines and simplistic dialogue actually make this story a lot more sinister the further you read on. You don't know any of the character's thoughts (due to the lack of inner monologue or omnipresent voice), but certain panels (such as when a character's face is zoomed in closer and closer multiple times) easily convey their feelings on the situation.

I couldn't stop reading to find out what was actually going on. The author/illustrator definitely captured the dystopian mood. I'd love to read the next installment and I hope I can get the arc for that. (If not, there's always the OG webtoons version.)

Thank you to Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group and NetGalley for this arc.

It's an extraordinary, captivating graphic novel. I love the simplistic and subtle illustrations and did not expect the moments of dread and dread beneath it all. There are things unsaid, and one has to defer from reading between the lines about the prominent cat-heads-wearing characters. I'm left more intrigued with more curiosity and little clarity on what's happening. I want more!

Everything is NOT fine in “Everything Is Fine.” In a society where citizens experience constant surveillance from police, neighbors, and even their spouses, everyone must pretend to forget the way life was before the new rules of order were established. The protagonist, Maggie, tries as hard as she can but she simply can’t will herself to completely forget.

The art style in this graphic novel is saccharine, presenting a stark juxtaposition when the plot becomes violent. Make no mistake, this is not a story for young readers despite the adorable illustrations. The plot develops with subtly, foreshadowing constantly with strong lines and tiny gestures from the characters that unrest is stirring. As the characters reach the climax of the volume, there is no way to return to the original status quo.

I would recommend this novel to anyone interested in dystopian fiction. It would be appropriate for older teens or adults, but I absolutely wouldn’t bring it into a middle school classroom.

I love dystopian thrillers, can’t get enough of them. I especially love the classic 1950s aesthetic, so something like WandaVision was up my alley in 2021. I was able to check out Everything is Fine from the Webtoon Unscrolled line of titles recently. This is a new initiative that allows popular Webtoons to be published in physical form.

Sam and Maggie are your normal suburban couple with a dog named Winston and a lovely set of neighbors. It’s a perfect, idyllic life.

Except the dog’s dead.

From the first strip, it’s clear that something is amiss. Maggie starts to snap out of her stupor and convinces her husband that something is wrong. (After all, they’re wearing oversized cat heads.) What follows is the duo trying to figure out what’s happening as well as who anyone, including themselves, truly is. While the first few strips take a while to get interesting, the slow start is broken by the end. I enjoyed how uncomfortable the contrast between peaceful cathead suburbia and horrific 1984-esque thought-crime was.

Because I was enthralled with this story, I caught up to the current arc on the Webtoon app. However, this also cemented my opinion that the Webtoon Unscolled edition is inferior to the digital one. The translation from app to book is a messy one, and there’s a ton of white space on the panels. I’m therefore giving a demerit (er… frownie?) of one point to my overall rating. The biggest omission (due to physical paper’s limitations) is the lack of sporadic music when reading certain strips. I went back on the app to read some of the earlier storylines to compare, and didn’t realize this. The inclusion of music during certain events had an unnerving effect that immersed me in the story. You won’t get that in this printed copy, which is a shame.

This collected Webtoon Unscrolled edition is a serviceable way to enjoy Everything is Fine. However, there are some things that make it a slightly worse experience.

Have you ever spotted a cover to a book and knew instantly that you had to read it? You don’t even read the synopsis, the cover grabbed your attention so swiftly that it consumed you. You bypassed everything else, you just needed this book in your hands because of that cover. It just happened to me with this book and I don’t regret a thing.

Going into this book blind was the best thing possible. I didn’t know what was going to come next and I can say that it rocked my world. It was out there bizarre and I loved it. I know they said to forget but I can never forget this read.

Who has to meet the hammer for me to get the second volume?

A big thanks to NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Note to self, don't trust anyone with a cat head.

Everything is Fine by Mike Birchall is graphic novel that was previously published as a web comic, through Webtoons. Though now, horrifyingly and wonderfully, is being adapted into a real book. Everything is Fine is about a perfectly normal couple, Sam and Maggie, that live in a perfectly normal house and have a perfectly normal dog. Who may or may not actually be dead, and Sam and Maggie have to uphold the façade in hopes of keeping their normal life. But with the whole world practically watching them, things begin to slip through the cracks and their supposed normality cracks.

I loved Everything is Fine when it was a Webtoons comic, and I love that it is getting published, and will reach a wider reader group. I just hope other people will love it as much as I do.

This is a gripping tale about a serene neighborhood where everything is just a little too perfect. Right from the start you can tell that things aren't as they seem and soon you'll be sucked into the mystery of what's actually going on. It's so engrossing that once it ends, it leaves you wanting to know the truth. Really enjoyed this comic and looking forward to the next volume in the series!

I really enjoyed this!

I loved the contrast of the pastel colors and the cute visuals with the uneasiness and eventual bloodbath. Didn't love what happened to the dog, but once we got through that I was hooked. I even went and continued on webtoon.

The story is interesting and compelling and I can't wait to find out what happens next.

I will be looking out for more from Mike Birchall!

This is seriously so morbid but i love absolutely everything about it. I first came across this comic on Webtoon and was immediately captivated by the art and then as I read, I realize how sick this story really was. But guess what? I eat up every page.

An exciting upcoming release!
(Read prior on Webtoon as well years ago).

While I did find the art style simple, it added to the eeriness of the plot. Particularly with how tightly the panels are, leaving out the majority of the picture. It leaves your mind to fill in the blanks. (Which often conjures up more horrific images.)

Give it a look if you're interested in a dystopian thriller that'll have you slowly more on edge as you progress.

This was so strange and eerie but I think I loved it? Really enjoyable with dark humour, fantastic artwork and a great storyline which left much to the imagination and left me wanting more. I can't wait for Volume Two!
