I loved this fun, lighthearted, small-town romance! The grumpy/sunshine trope worked really well in this book. The banter between Rose and Angus made me laugh so many times. Rose is such an amazing character – intelligent, honest, sassy, determined, and strong! I loved seeing her become more confident and learn how to love herself throughout the story. Their relationship felt genuine, and I rooted for them from the very beginning of the book.

I didn't enjoy the last third of the book as much because Angus's reaction upon discovering Rose's secret was a bit disappointing. It bothered me that Angus let his insecurities affect their relationship, and Rose seemed too quick to brush it all off. The underlying message seemed to be about people finding compromise despite their flaws, but Angus didn’t try to make things right until Rose started crying in front of him, which conveniently made him the 'hero' again. I still had fun reading this book, but the whole miscommunication trope was completely unnecessary and a bit predictable.

Thank you, NetGalley, the publisher Sourcebooks Casablanca, and author Laura Moher for the ARC! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Curves for Days by Laura Moher is due to be released on August 22, 2023.

As a plus size reader, I’m extremely picky about the plus size romance I consume. Curves for Days has a lot of heart and two main characters that definitely made me feel a range of emotions. There were moments where I was kicking my feet and chuckling at their exchanges but there were also times I wanted to shout at them! I was invested in Rose and wanted the world for her.

There were a few things that caught me off guard and I wish they’d have been mentioned in the summary or at least as content warnings.

I had to DNF this book in the first three chapters.

Usually I can get over thinking that the writing is juvenile or shallow. Which, this definitely fits both of those. But After the first chapter from Angus' perspective, I knew I was going to struggle. I didn't even finish the second chapter from his POV. He's insufferable. Without any context at all, he just hates Rosie for her... asking for help and then beaning him with a candy bar. It makes no sense.

I just couldn't get over it.

"Curves for Days" is a heartwarming tale that weaves together romance, small-town charm, and genuine characters. Rose Barnes, a woman with curves for days, finds herself entangled in an unexpected love story with Angus Drummond, a big, bearded contractor working on her new house. As their unlikely friendship evolves into love, the story navigates real-world issues such as PTSD among former military personnel and the challenges of mental health resources.

The plus-size representation is spot on – Rose's journey from insecurity to self-love is beautifully done. Rose and Angus slowly become more than just friends, and the characters' growth is something you'll cheer for. Angus, the grumpy vet with a big heart, and Rose, the sweet but lonely lottery winner, are a perfect match. The story handles real-life problems with veterans' mental health and the lack of resources, making it more than just a romance.

It's the kind of romance that makes you believe in love and self-acceptance. If you're into heartwarming reads with a side of small-town charm, this one's a winner!

Curves for Days is a cute romance book about making your family wherever you are. I liked Rose as a main character. Even though she had troubles in her past, she moved forward and created a life she could be proud of. She was a genuinely good person. I also really liked Angus as the mmc. He was a little gruff, but he and Rose were super cute together.

The small town feel was really cute and I liked the premise of the home project.

The writing style is where this book lost me. It's multiple POV, so I could see making a stylistic choice to make one of the character's voice come across more unique, but the author just straight up left subjects out of sentences. For example, instead of saying "I went to the store", she would say "Went to the store". And this happened all the stinking time. It didn't flow well and was lazy in my opinion.

The third act breakup was also ridiculous. And I hated all the references to Angus' internal "scoreboard" and how everything had to be "even" in their relationship.

So while Curves for Days started strong, it ended up disappointing me and I will not be reading more from this author due to her writing style.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

I always love a gruff grumpy hero and that is exactly what Angus is. I loved Rose’s character also. I really rooted for this two characters and I loved their dynamic.

I really enjoyed this small town romance from the go! Rose and Angus were a couple I didn't know I needed ❤️ And possibly the best plus size rep!

Overall I liked this one! I thought it was a solid 4 stars. I liked the main character a lot, and I’m a huge sucker for home renovation so this was right in my wheelhouse. I did think that the writing was a little choppy at times, with sudden time jumps that pulled me out of the story a bit. But other than that I liked this one!

🌈 Queer rep: mention of a FF couple, mention of a MM couple

Arc received from netgalley; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This cute, quick romance took me less than a day to finish. After Rose wins the lottery, she starts over and moves to a new small town, where she hires a grumpy contractor to fix her fancy new home. It has everything that you would want in a cute small-town romance with the spin of having lottery winning in it. I loved the plus-size representation in this, and it gave me all the HGTV homemaker vibes with the "lottery dream house" vibes going. I will keep Laura Moher on my radar.

Tropes:
- Grumpy/Sunshine
-Small Town Romance
- Forced Proximity
- Slow Burn
- Plus Size MC
- Lottery Winnings

📖My Thoughts📖

I can’t even begin to to tell you how much I loved this book! The characters and the setting for one were pretty amazing and I seriously wish I could live in this town and befriend all of them! It sounds like it would be such a great low key but fun place to live! The relationship between Rose and Angus just made me squeal with delight (yes I know, very nerdy). They were so stinking cute! But oh my lord they were also so dang stubborn! I loved watching their relationship grow though. It was really fun to watch it unfold and grow. I would totally love it if they made this into a movie! I recommend this to anyone who loves a good romantic comedy.
Thank you Netgalley, Laura Moher and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read and review this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

As an extremely curvy girl I both; A) gravitate toward book covers with plus size women on them and B) am extremely weary as if it’s done correctly. No plus size woman wants to read about how badly a character hate their body and how ugly they think that they are. This book hit all those marks beautifully. I enjoyed it thoroughly and am happy I took a chance on it.

At one point in the beginning I worried this was going to end up a DNF, but I’m glad I stuck with it! The characters became less surface level and I came to really enjoy their slow burn romance. Rose is hiding, and running from, a big secret - she’s filthy rich after winning the lottery and hasn’t a clue what to do about it. When she ends up in Galway, she truly finds her home and her people. Angus begins to work on her newly purchased house and mutual pining eventually ensues, while Rose stubbornly keeps her wealth a secret. The romantic and sexual between these two is 🔥 It’s always refreshing to have a plus sized FMC as well, and to have the MMC find her totally attractive. I’m interested to read the next book set here about July!

What to expect:

- plus sized FMC
- small town romance
- found family
- slow burn
- grumpy x sunshine
- forced proximity
- self discovery
- kind of spicy

Curves For Days by Laura Moher is a sweet romance with an adorable grumpy meets sunshine romance that has some heavier content including PTSD, body shaming, and mental health issues. Rose is a sweet, hopeful character that just wants to help others and enjoy her new life. Angus is a therapist who is focused on giving back to those who need help from military service related trauma. He is determined to.stay aloof but Rose wears him down and makes him smile. This was a nice romcom with cozy small town vibes that I really enjoyed.

I love seeing representation and as a plus size woman myself I was very excited to read what seemed to be a feel good small town romance. In all honesty, I was left disappointed that like in many cases we didn’t find a strong independent female plus sized main character but instead it was just sad at how little she thought of herself. It was frustrating that this was the type of plus size love interest character that I was getting to experience… one with no friends, no self love and whose only experience with physical attraction was sexual assault until she’s in her 30s. This book held so much potential and I do love the characters and the spicy parts of course. In many ways, I can understand the reasons that the author chose to make certain decisions in the character’s background because unfortunately in many cases this is our reality. So in the end, much like life, I pushed through the hard parts and stayed til the HEA. Still disappointed but was cute. Overall, 2.5/5

Received an earc of this book and I was not disappointed! Finally a curvy girl romance! My only complaint is that I wish it was longer

Note- Read Trigger Warnings first before delving in. There is a lot more here than was expected.

Curves for Days is a small town romance with a twist, several actually. The main character is a larger woman than normal leads and the book mentions it constantly, but not done too horribly. The male lead is a great guy with a bit of a rough past thats mostly glossed over. The complication is understandable but still frustrating since I just wanted things to be happy and nice. I loved the town and the people in that town. It was an enjoyable book and serious topics were well handled, just be aware of them first.

A fun read…lots of humour, from both characters. Rose goes through a major transformation in confidence and happiness…a very uplifting story.
