I received an ARC of “Stuffed” from NetGalley and Chronicle Books in an exchange for an honest review.

I never met a cookie that I didn’t like. Especially a stuffed one. Prior to reading this cookbook, I had never heard of Heather Mubarak. The only thing that I knew was that I loved the cover. But when I pulled back that cover and actually began reading and reviewing this cookbook, I realized just how much I was missing because the inside is even better. Even though the ARC I received was an advanced uncorrected proof, I was to tell the publishers just one thing: Don’t. Change. Anything.

First of all, let me just get this out of the way: How can you not like an author that has a, “…cookie-a-day philosophy…”????? And all of the author’s recipes reveal just how much Mubarak loves cookies. But this book is more than just a collection of ‘OMG’ recipes. Mubarak provides measurements for both the English and Metric systems and baking temperatures are both in Fahrenheit and Celsius. This may not seem important to some people, but in doing so, the author has made this book truly usable for people both inside and outside the USA—not just professional chefs, but home cooks as well.

Mubarak doesn’t skimp on anything. The directions she wrote are detailed and even include directions in the sidebar. For example, she tells people how to heat treat flour (and why you should do it) when making raw cookie dough.

An entire section on the fillings alone was enough to make my mouth water. As if recipes for Oreos, Nutter Butters, Key Lime Pie Sandwich Cookies, and Lavender Lemon Shortbread with Meyer Lemon Curd wasn’t good enough, the author included a recipe for copycat Milanos! But in addition to the sweeter recipes, she also included more savory companions. For example, Everything Bagel Crackers with Chive Cream Cheese. Mubarak even included various ice cream recipes.

I stand by what I told the publishers earlier that they shouldn’t change anything in this book. And I mean it. The only way that it could possibly get any better is if they included embedded video in the ebook just so that I could drool more.

This book is so well-put together—with original recipes, wonderful directions, and fantastic, mouth-watering photographs. I don’t often buy cookbooks. But I most definitely will purchase a copy of this. I recommend this cookie cookbook to anyone and everyone.

With a wide variety of filled cookies, from some mores in cookie form to innovative macarons, this book has plenty of great ideas for cookies. An entire chapter devoted to fillings will encourage the reader to experiment.

this is my first go at reviewing a cookbook and i thought it would be a fun experience, especially being on winter break! one thing i miss while being away at college is being able to bake. i have the biggest sweet tooth and love experimenting with different recipes. i can’t imagine picking “the BEST” dessert out there but cookies rank pretty high in my books so it was only fitting that i try out “stuffed”

when it comes to baking cookies, i’ve tended to stick with the classics: chocolate chip, snickerdoodles, oatmeal chocolate chip, etc … so i loved the challenge of making cookies AND a filling to go with it. one of the details in the recipes that i found super helpful is the snowflake symbol. it appears at the corner of all the cookies that require chilling prior to baking. i also loved how there were notes at the end of each cookie that gave alternate filling options so you can mix and match your sandwiches. first i made the chocolate truffle cookies with whipped nutella ganache. the recipe was simple enough to follow and i was easily able to roll my dough and use my cookie cutter - it wasn’t too sticky or crumbly. the end result was a buttery, rich, chocolate cookie that was slightly crispy like a sugar cookie. it reminded me of a fancy oreo and it was delicious!

This book is amazing! Recipes and photos are outstanding. I have Celiac and plan to use gluten free flour in place of bread flour and will soon be having Oatmeal Cream Pies and Copycat Nutter Butter Cookies to name just a couple. So many great recipes all in one book. Thank you, thank you!

I really love the layout and graphic design of this book. It's a very well done book with the most mouth-watering beautiful photos. Each recipe is presented in metric and imperial versions so you can love this book anywhere in the world. The color palette used was very aesthetically pleasing as well. I am super excited to make some of these goodies, I think I will be starting with the oatmeal cream pies! They look just delightful. What a lovely and well thought-out cookbook, one of my favorites I have yet to read. I will absolutely be purchasing this book.

Stuffed is a book containing 65 mix & match recipes for sandwich cookies! Whoopie pies, macarons, ice cream sandwiches and more! The book breaks down these delicious sandwiches into 6 categories: 1. Oldies but Goodies, 2. For the Love of Chocolate, 3. The Cool Cookies, 4. Tart & Tangy, 5. Cookies with a Kick, 6. Cocktail Cookies and then the book is rounded out with chapter 7 - the fillings!

In addition to the recipes, there's a lot of tips and tricks to make sure your kitchen and pantry are ready to go to make whatever type of cookie sandwich your heart desires.  What supplies you will need for baking, what ingredients to have on hand and tips on how to know your kitchen! Don't want to be burning anything because you're not familiar with your oven!

One tip for reading this book - make sure you've eaten before you start!  I had just finished lunch but still would like to eat every single one of these cookies in the Oldies but Goodies section. (My favorite pick is probably the Funfetti Cookies with Cake Batter Buttercream though! Homemade milanos are probably a close second)

All the cookies are photographed as well and I am sure that any attempt I make for any of these will not come out looking anywhere near as gorgeous... but if it tastes good, I guess we can call that a win!

Other favorites throughout the book include: Hot Fudge Sundae Macarons, Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwiches and Sugar Cookie Confetti Ice Cream Sandwiches!

I was also surprised to see some savory options in the mix!  Definitely a lot of options to choose from!

I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.

A must have book for cookie bakers! This book is stuffed (haha) with great recipes, a beautiful picture for each cookie, and step by step instructions for each recipe. The front of the book has a great listing of pantry staples, and tools to make your baking life easier.

Each recipe is listed in US and metric units, making it easy for anyone to use these recipes.

The recipes run the gambit from your traditional Chocolate Chip Cookie, to savory Lemon Thyme Shortbread.

This book will be a fantastic addition to anyone's bookshelf, and I plan on buying a hard copy myself once it's published.

Thank you Netgalley and Chronicle Books for the ARC!

What a great selection of cookies! There are a few standout features of this book that sets it apart from other cookie books. There is a nice distribution of flavors, and the book doesn't rely solely on chocolate to carry it. The encouragement to mix and match flavors gives the baker the freedom to pair their flavors in whatever way they see fit. There are only a few pairings that wouldn't work out, which makes this book nearly foolproof for the new baker.

5 stars, Baking Inspiration

STUFFED: THE SANDWICH COOKIE BOOK
by Heather Mubarak

The combinations of cookies and fillings are endless with this fantastic book! We've made the Copycat Nutter Butters, we made them as round cookies, we are not particular as to the shape of the cookies. More than one-half of the filling was not used in the recipe, so we are thinking up ways to use the leftover filling, freeze it, roll it into small balls, and dip it into a chocolate coating. Yum!

The book is appropriate for anyone who likes to bake, wants to bake or to drool over delicious-looking artwork. The next cookie recipe that we will try out will be the Copycat Oreos.

I liked the fact that nearly every recipe has a full-color photo of what the cookies should look like. Several of the recipes seem to be more difficult than what the average cook will want to attempt. But, it is always handy to have the book for reference, if you did want to attempt them.

This is a spectacularly beautiful book - the photos are gorgeous and even the layout of the pages is so appealing. The recipes look delicious and are each very clear and easy to read. My only con is that the book was only downloadable to my phone, which makes it incredibly hard to read the content.

Stuffed by Heather Mubarak is a fresh take on the cookie book - who doesn’t love a stuffed treat! As a consumer of many dessert books I found this one to be unique, inspiring, and fun.

The sections are broken down by the following:
-oldies but goodies: highlights include s’mores cookie with toasted marshmallow filling and homemade milanos
- for the love of chocolate: wannabe brownie cookies with peanut butter frosting and hot fudge sundae macarons really speak to me here
-the cool cookies: ice cream sandwiches! I can’t wait to make black cocoa brownie mint chip sandwiches and Black Forest ice cream sandwiches
-tart & tangy: key lime pie sandwiches cookies and strawberry shortcake macarons look fun 😍
-cookies with a kick: spiced chocolate cookies with Dulce de leche are first on my list
-cocktail cookies: cornbread cookies with honey mascarpone look irresistible
-the fillings

What a successful, educational, and fun book! Don’t miss it - Stuffed is out 4/4/23. Thank to Netgalley and Chronicle Books for the Arc.

So many different cookies to try! I didn't know this many versions of stuffed cookies existed.

Let's talk about the layout of the book first. I really liked that the filling details of the common fillings were at the front. Many of the same ones are used, so that helps a lot. Each section has a theme that the cookies fit, like chocolate. That really helps in finding the type you would like to make.

Since I am behind on holiday baking, some of these recipes will do the trick, especially the peppermint ones!

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this cookbook for my honest review.

Oh my goodness, even just the photos are drool worthy, and I'm pretty sure I gained 20 lbs just reading this book. Each recipe has a photo, and in some cases several photos. It also touches on changing out the stuffings so that you can mix and match the different recipes. Delicious gift for the bakers in your life!
