Once again, I can clearly see why Megan Miranda is one of the top authors in her genre. This may be my favorite Miranda book to date.

Another twisty tale from a queen of thriller writing! Loved the premise and flew through this one since I couldn't wait to find out how it would turn out. If you're a fan of her previous books, you'll love this one too!

Thank you to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I love Megan Miranda. Her stories are very slow moving but it gives you time to get to know and enjoy each character. While this wasn't my favorite of hers, it's still worthy of a 3.5 star rating. I loved the mini twist at the end and I want to leave this spoiler free so that's all that you're getting. The main plot was easy to figure out but again, enjoyable enough that I didn't mind. I love the Then and Now chapters. Great read!

A car accident that happened ten years ago has forged a group of survivors into sticking together no matter what. Before the accident, they were relative strangers, known to each other as mostly just classmates. After the accident, they agreed to get together every year on the anniversary of the accident, not to celebrate their survival, but to escape the noise at home where the tragedy took place. On their tenth get-together, things started to feel eerie, something was wrong. They would need to band together to get through this and save each other from an unknown threat.

This book fell a little short for me. Too many stories that seemed disconnected from the overall storyline. I give this book 3 stars. Thank you, NetGalley and Scribner for the ARC.

I had previously enjoyed The Last House Guest by Megan Miranda but was disappointed by the two subsequent books I read by Miranda (The Last to Vanish and The Girl From Widow Hills). I find Miranda to be a hit or miss author. I was worried The Only Survivors would follow in this vein of previous misses but was an enjoyable, atmospheric read. It has strong vibes of Showtime's Yellowjackets, which I adored. My only caveat is that it seemed pretty obvious who the killer was about 75% in (as well as the 'surprise' identity of another character) but our main protagonist continues to be willfully ignorant for sake of plot/reveal. The twists didn't catch me off guard but I did enjoy the slow unraveling of the groups past trauma. I did think the reveal of Cassidy's involvement in the accident was a bit silly, especially the guilt she has carried from it and her desperation not to have it revealed. Otherwise, an enjoyable read. Highly recommend if you enjoyed Yellowjackets, although not as dark or surprising.

Excellent mystery about a group of former classmates who reunite to mark the tenth anniversary of a tragic accident—only to have one of the survivors disappear, casting fear and suspicion on the original tragedy.

A school trip turned deadly – there were ten students who started the trip but only nine returned. The book opens with eight survivors reuniting in the Outer Banks to acknowledge/commemorate the anniversary of the fatal accident. The tensions run high among the group and no one really knows who they can trust. One person already is gone, who will be the next?
The Only Survivors is a thrilling suspenseful read that will keep you engaged from the beginning to the end.
Thank you Netgallery for my ARC.

I really enjoyed this Megan Miranda novel! I would highly recommend if you like mysterious, suspenseful stories that don't exactly circle around a murder. It was atmospheric and slow paced. The slow paced quality of the book was part of the mysterious circumstances of the novel.

Death seems to surround Cassidy and the other survivors. They come together each year to be together to protect each other from something that haunts them every year. It is a secret that belongs to each of them, and very few others know all of the pieces of the story.

It is told in multiple points of view from "Then" and "Now". I wish I could have heard some of the voices during the now section, but it is just told from Cassidy's perspective.

The intrigue of this book had me give it a 4, but it isn't a 5 because I wanted a few more interesting layers to some of the characters.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. At first I thought I would need a piece of paper to write notes as each character was introduced, but thankfully, each one had their own chapter recalling events and it worked really well for the large group. This story was so descriptive that I could see myself at the beach, on the river, in the story itself. In classic Megan Miranda form, the story takes you on a twist and turn of events leading up to the 10 year anniversary of a tragedy that brought the group together in the first place. I really enjoyed trying to guess the whodunit aspect of the story and enjoyed it even more because my suspicions were trumped. Good read, especially in time for the spring break release date!

A tragedy binds a group of high school students together. Nine survivors of a crash, and the decisions they made back then to keep a pact is haunting them.
🚐
Ten years later, at their annual get together at “The Shallows”, they learn one of the original survivors has overdosed! Then another one comes up missing shortly after arrival!
🚐
This novel was full of secrets, lies, deception and cover ups that had me waiting for the next crazy crisis!
🚐
A necklace, cards, knife, camera and other things are clues to a coverup. With someone dead and someone missing who could be next? Are they turning on each other?
🚐
Miranda did it again. She is an auto buy for me with her psychological thrillers.
🚐
Thanks Netgalley, Scribner for this advanced copy. The Survivors is due out April 11, 2023.

After a group of teens survive a horrific accident, they make a pact to keep coming back to a beach house year after year to get together. But there is more to the story of survival that unravels itself throughout the book.

This was very typical for a Megan Miranda book. I did feel like I enjoyed it more than some of her previous books. Definitely a slow burn mystery that all resolves itself at the very end. I did not find the characters super likeable and the main narrator was a bit annoying at times. I did enjoy the past chapters much more than the present chapters, though and I enjoyed her dual timeline. The plot twist at the end was good too!

Thank you to Netgalley and Scribner Publicity for an ARC of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book. Megan Miranda does it again! I could not put this triller down. It kept me on the edge of my seat and engaged throughout. I love books like this that explore several characters and contains unguessable twists. Would recommend!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC for review.

A group of friends come together every year on the anniversary of a tragedy. The whole story of this tale is told in pieces, and all is not revealed until the end of the book. It's classic Megan Miranda and a lot of people will like it. I was a bit disappointed with the feeling of dread and mistrust that seeped out of the pages from the very beginning. It's just not a way that I like to read novels, thinking that everyone is a suspect. The writing was good, the setting was interesting, and it all came together at the end.

I found this book to be absolutely fantastic! It kept me interested from start to finish. I loved how Megan Miranda revealed the pieces of the puzzle a little at a time, interspersing with past and present from chapter to chapter. The ending was phenomenal as well. Highly, highly recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Only Survivors.

Tell me if you've heard of this before; a group of friends with a terrible secret meet each year to renew their promise never to tell anyone what happened that fate night a decade ago.

The Only Survivors' premise is not original; it's similar to I Know What You Did Last Summer, but the Simpsons remake in their Treehouse of Terror episode was far better.

The Only Survivors lacked suspense and thrills, not to mention likable characters.

I didn't know anyone enough to sympathize or care about them and the plot just dragged on with the main character ruminating on what to do and what's going on and where is Amaya?

Then we have the flashbacks to what happened that night, told from the perspective of the remaining survivors.

That really slowed the pace of the narrative, and it was already slow to begin with.

Nothing much happens except threatening notes, a stranger on the beach, and the creepy crawling feeling you get when you suspect someone is watching.

All ho-hum cliches.

And, let's not forget that ending, which I only have one word for: Really?

If you're capable of suspending disbelief easily, then you'll have no problem accepting the finale.

I had a problem.

As always, I'm grateful for the opportunity to read The Only Survivors before publication.

I received an ARC version of this book and am leaving this review of my own accord.

You weren’t going to go to the reunion week this year. But then your friend texts you a message with another friends obituary attached - so you pack up your car and head out to the reunion. But once you arrive you learn that the person you thought texted you wasn’t who you thought it was. Now you’re not sure who it was that lured you here. All you know is that someone has a reason to want you here.

This was a tense and thrilling ride about a group of friends that are linked together by a tragic past. Honestly, we’ve seen this same plot in many other stories so it’s nothing new. But reading this book doesn’t feel like the others do. The two timelines work very well and are told through the eyes of different characters; sharing what they experienced and felt back then on that fateful night.

Sometimes being invisible is better than being wholly exposed. Whom can they trust and who’s been talking? This book is well written - gripping, atmospheric, and compelling you can feel the suspense. Some chapters are really long (not my fav thing in a book) but you’re so wrapped up in the story you hardly notice.

This is the first book I have read by this author. The story in this book was told in fragments as the action begins to pick up at the reunion. I was first really struggling to understand why there was all of this focus on the past, until towards the end and this really would have been helpful since I struggled understanding what the motive was for these reunions. Once revealed though, it really propelled the story. This book just ended up being ok for me. The pacing was very slow and it just made the story hard to stay motivated to read in many parts. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley. I would definitely be interested in reading more from this author in the future.

This was my introduction to Megan Miranda and I am hooked. To say this book is suspenseful is to put it mildly.. From beginning to end, the intrigue kept building and building. What also struck me as sheer talent was the sensitive and perceptive way in which she constructed this thriller. I truly felt sympathy for the characters, those who survived and those who didn't. The differing time designations added to the excitement.
I especially liked the twists throughout the story. I thought I had it figured out until I didn't. Can't wait to read more!

This was an enjoyable read if not her best book to date.

The storyline moves between the present-where 8 survivors of an accident 10 years prior come together to support each other in the Outer Banks on the anniversary of the incident, and the past which is told from each individual perspective during and after the accident.

None of the characters were really memorable to me and there were a lot of them. There were a few twists, but nothing too shocking. At the end, I found the plot to be a bit hard to follow.

This was a slow thriller for me, but I will continue to be a fan and read all of Megan Miranda's novels.

Overall a decent suspense/thriller it felt very slow to get to the main part of the story. I think there were too many characters so it was hard to get invested in all of their storylines. I did enjoy the twist at the end with Russ. I found that hard to predict.
