I enjoyed this third enstalment in the Lakeside Library series. Rain, along with best friend Julia, runs the Lakeside Library in Lofty Pines, WI. They have started a book club and discuss Agatha Chrisite's "Sparkling Cyanide". After the meeting one of the book club members is found dead. Rain and Julia are determined to find the person who murdered Lily (using poison) before the wrong person is charged. I enjoy the banter between Rain and Julia. I'm also excited to see Rain have a budding romance!

Summertime cannot get here quickly enough. This book had me dreaming about the lake and the beach. It put me in such a wonderful state of mind.

The dialogue and descriptions were so rich. I could close my eyes and imagine myself in Lofty Pines. It actually reminded me of Big Bear which is just almost up the road from us. It was such a fluid read with no holes. This was a book I literally could not put down.

I usually don't like when a book has a fair amount of characters, but every character was woven into the story so well. I loved all the supporting characters, minus the culprit, as much as I loved Rain. The friendship between Rain and Julia was so endearing and I loved that romance didn't take center stage here. There was a hint of romance, but it was nicely played. I hope another book in this series is soon to follow. Until then I just might have to reread this one!

It's summer in Lofty Pines, WI and Rain is restarting her mother's book club. The first book, an Agatha Christie mystery leads them to a lively discussion that leaves Lily, one of the participants unhappy. When Rain and Julia go to try and smooth the troubled waters with Lily they find her dead at her house.
Of course Rain and Julia can't let their book club participants be accused of murder, so they begin to investigate. With clues that date back to Lily's high school days, they refuse to leave any page unturned.
I love cozy mysteries and one set in a library is a sure hit. I enjoy the characters and setting, the fact that the author introduced a dog doesn't hurt either. With this book there is a bit more romance than previous books in the series. The mystery wasn't complicated but the story was a delight to read.

Warm weather is bringing the tourists to Lofty Pines, Wisconsin in droves and Rain Wilmot, the owner of the Lakeside Library, has decided it's time to restart the popular summer book club. Agatha Christie's Sparkling Cyanide is their first choice which leads to some entertaining discussions between members at their inaugural meeting.

Along with her best friend Julia Reynolds, Rain is dismayed when one of the club's members is found murdered and they are determined to discover why and how this happened. Life is full on for Rain as she also explores her changing feelings for someone she has known her entire life, worries about the welfare of another of her closest friends, and considers the benefits of becoming a new pet owner! With everything that's going on can Rain and Julia uncover the killer in their midst or will the clues they've uncovered put them directly in the line of fire?

This is the third in Holly Danvers' Lakeside Library Mystery Series and my favourite so far. There were a few 'Oh!' moments as links, clues and lies were uncovered alongside the theme of friendship which runs strongly throughout this collection. There are also ongoing storylines which need to be included in book four which I will definitely be on the lookout for.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is a fun cosy crime book which is easy to get lost in and recommend.

Summertime is here again, beautiful blue skies, hot weather, tourists flooding back to Lofty Pines, and murder. Rain Wilmot, owner of Lakeside Library uses this opportunity to promote her mother's book club. Sadly things heat up more than just the temperature when one of the club's members is discovered, having been murdered.

Jace Lowe pairs up with Rain to learn that the murder is taking a page right out of the book club book that's been discussed. Could the murdered be one of the book club members?

Nothing becomes clear anytime soon and add to the plot a mysterious letter about a original Laura Ingles Wilder manuscript and things just go from bad to worse.

If you enjoy cozy mysteries, be sure to snatch up this addition the the series!

Read to Death at the Lakeside Library is the 3rd book in the.enjoyable Lakeside Library Mystery series. The characters are likeable and the mystery was good. I guessed the.culprit from the.clues but wasn't sure until the end. There is friendship and finally the beginning of clean romance. Rain (not a fan of the name) Wilmot owns a.house and library in Lofty Pines. Her next door neighbors are her best friend, Julia and Julia's brother and Rain's love interest Policeman Jace. Rain and Julia are starting a book club and the first meeting is at the library. Six other ladies show up besides Rain, Julia and Marge who works at the library. There are some heated discussions and the next day Rain and Julia find one of the new book club members dead. The murder resembles the Agatha Christie book they are reading. Several people have secrets and it is up to Rain and Julia to find out the truth and who the culprit is. The book lagged a bit early on but picked up and kept me interested for the remainder. This is an enjoyable cozy mystery and a good addition to the series. #ReadToDeathAtTheLakesideLibrary #NetGalley #CrookedLaneBooks

Read to Death at the Lakeside Library by Holly Danvers is an excellent story with a marvelous mystery and a blooming romance.

Will Rain and Julia figure out who killed Lily?

This installment starts with a meeting of the Lakeside Library book club. Let me say that I wish there were a book club like this one near me. Anyway, the book club ladies get a little overzealous in discussing the book Sparkling Cyanide by Agatha Christie. Rain and Julia decide to stop by Lily's cabin to ensure Lily will attend the next book club meeting. However, they find Lily's door open and Lily's dead body near it.

Then someone starts trying to blame the book club members for the murder. Add to this that there is also a local old closed case that the victim may have been a party in and a large inheritance from a long-lost relative, and we have a reason for our sleuths to be on the case.

The three sleuths keep things lively. Marge is the wildcard in the detecting department, as you never know when she'll come up with something that no one else knows. Rain and Julia worry about Marge's memory in this installment. Ms. Danvers has a touch of real life in all her stories. This one is Marge's age and ability to remember things. Although, Ms. Danvers handles it well and shows the young women's concern and love for their older friend.

Rain gets a new companion in this installment, a beautiful dog they all seem to adore.

The Victim
Lily Redlin is an accountant with dreams of moving from her house in town to the lake cabin she just purchased. Lily is a serious book nerd. Although, I think her home in Lofty Pines is gorgeous, with a library and a secret room. Who wouldn't want to live there? Lily had planned to be a journalist, but events in her life led her to be an accountant instead. I liked Lily even though she was a bit intense.

Four Stars
I enjoyed being back in Lofty Pines with Rain, Julia, and Marge. These ladies always seem to fall into some mystery. Rain and Julia are like Lucy and Ethel but with corpses and into the comedy aspect. My rating for Read to Death at the Lakeside Library by Holly Danvers is four stars. I highly recommend this book and the series. I am already looking forward to the next installment.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of Read to Death at the Lakeside Library by Holly Danvers.

Until the next time,

I love that we get the murder relatively quick! It happens at the 12% mark. That gives us (the readers) a good amount of time to solve the case! And either my sleuthing skills are getting better or I made a lucky guess but I predicted very soon after the death who the killer was!! Such a great feeling when that happens.

Rain, our main character, finally gets her own furry sidekick! Benzo was the sweetest, he’s a Siberian husky.

The reenactment of their first book club meeting was so fun and clever. It was great seeing Rain and Julia find ways to get everyone’s handwriting and figure out the motive for why Lily died!

I’m loving the romance with Rain and Jace. It’s so sweet and I’m excited to see it continue to grow as the series goes on.

Overall, another great installment to this cozy mystery series!

This a cute cozy mystery. Not complex in plot but fun to read. The characters are well developed but the plot line is somewhat weak. The descriptions are well done of the area and gives the reader a sense of being there.

Death at the Lakeside Library is book three in the Lakeside Murder Mystery series by Holly Danvers. Summer was coming to Lofty Pines, Wisconsin, so Rain Wilmot, the owner of Lakeside Library, decided to bring back her mother's summer book club with the help of her friends Julia Reynolds and Jace Lowe and the first chosen to read was Agatha Christie's novel, Sparkling Cyanide. However, to Rain Wilmot's horror, one of the book club members was murdered. To save her book club, Rain decided to investigate. The readers of Death at the Lakeside Library will continue following Rain Wilmot to discover what happens.

Death at the Lakeside Library is a fantastic cozy mystery. I enjoy that Holly Danvers talks about some of my favourite things book clubs, libraries, and pets. I engaged with the story and the characters from the first page. I love Holly Danvers's portrayal of her characters and how they intertwine throughout this book. Death at the Lakeside Library is well-written and researched by Holly Danvers. I like Holly Danvers's description of the settings, which allows me to imagine being part of the book's plot.

The readers of Death at the Lakeside Library will learn how to set up a book club. Also, the readers of Death at the Lakeside will learn about living in a small community in Wisconsin.

I recommend this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third instalment of what has quickly become one of my favourite cozy mystery series. Things heat up between Rain and Jace; Rain and Julia face another murder, and Marge helps everyone as best she can. I do hope the fourth book is underway because I can't wait to visit Lofty Pines again!

I enjoy vacationing in Northwoods of Wisconsin and, as a result, I love this Lakeside Library mystery series set in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Rain, who owns the little Lakeside Library, and her best friend, Julia, plan to restart the library's book club with Agatha Christie's Sparkling Cyanide.

Not long after the book club meeting ends, one of its members is found dead and, naturally Rain and Julia get involved with solving it, also looking into a death on the lake years earlier, which may or may not complicate this solution to the book club murder.

Great characters, beautiful location, clever plot. Love this series. Highly recommended!!

Setting the Scene: It is summer in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, and Rain Wilmot, owner of the Lakeside Library, is reinstating her mother's summer book club. First up for discussion is Agatha Christie's Sparkling Cyanide. Granted the members of the book club imbibed a bit much, and the story they discussed involved poisoning, and a few members may have been a bit belligerent, but no one expected that one of them would be found dead from poisoning the next morning. Yet, that is exactly what Rain and her BFF Julia Reynolds stumble upon when they drop by Lily Redline's cottage to make sure no one's sober feathers are ruffled. As Rain and Julia delve deeper into Lily's life, they find more than one potential motive for her murder and no shortage of suspects.

What I Thought: I like this series, and I liked the book. The description of Rain's library, deck, and view alone would be reason enough to read the book, but I also love the camaraderie between Rain, Julia, and Marge, as well as Nick and Jace. There was more than one mystery in play in this outing, and they were well written, even though I did figure out who the culprits were fairly early. Nonetheless, that did not stop me from enjoying the read. All that said, in the interest of full disclosure, there were a few parts of the book that I would swear were written by a different author. Rain and Julia are fun, and they can get a bit carried away, but there was a part of the book where they were almost giddy about the investigation and that they and the book club were the only ones who could solve the mystery, etc., etc., etc. It would bother me in any series, but given Rain's blossoming relationship with Jace, that kind of talk just seems particularly wrong and uncharacteristic of Rain's character. Fortunately, even though Rain and Julia continued to investigate, the uncharacteristically immature personas did not. If you are looking for a fun but relaxing read, this is a good choice, but, as always, it is important for character development to start at the beginning of the series.

Wonderful, 5 Star cozy mystery! I have read others out of this series. I love how Danvers has created beautiful scenes for these books. The story moves at a rapid pace with action scenes, humor, and interesting dialogue—all of which hold one’s attention. This story enthralled me from the beginning and throughout all the intriguing surprises that spring up in the book.

My sleuthing skills are improving vastly because I had the killer pegged fairly early on for once!! The ‘why’ was still missing but the author did a great job at ironing out the kinks for the reader! In this book Rain and Julia have started a book club and their first meeting results in an argument between a couple members. Shortly after, one of those members is found dead. ☠️ Can they solve this mystery before they are next? Are they next? Perhaps they should be looking over their shoulders at all times from now on.

I really enjoyed the addition of Benzo!! Rain needed a dog for sure! Also….hearts and romance are in the air and I’m here for it!!

Read to Death at the Lakeside Library Is the 3rd book in the Lakeside Library Mystery series. I hadn’t read the previous two books but had no trouble in immersing myself with the characters.

Set in Wisconsin, USA, widow, Rain Wilmot, who runs the Lakeside Library, decides to start a Bookclub and the story starts with the participants gathering to discuss their first Bookclub book - an Agatha Christie cosy mystery. The group are not all strangers to each other - and discussions get a bit heated and personal. Later that night one of the members, Lily, is found dead - murdered. Rain and her best friend, Julia, find Lily’s body when they go over to apologise for the heated discussion. Rain is worried the members of the Bookclub might be suspects when it is found that Lily was poisoned, just like in the Agatha Christie book.

As with all cosy mystery heroines Rain decides to look into the murder herself but it is not as straightforward as she thought - there are a lot of twists and turns. Was she murdered because she was about to reveal what really happened at a tragic death of a class mate back in high school? Came into the possession of a long lost manuscript? Or, to get access to a waterfront property she had just inherited? As a reader my suspicions swayed back and forth as I decided on different suspects as clues were revealed. I did end up working out who the murderer was, but not until almost at the reveal. The ending was nail biting as our heroine nearly loses her life in pursuit of the truth.

There is the start of a romance, Rain decides she is ready to move on and not mourn her late husband. Julia’s brother, Jace, who just happens to be the local lawman, hints he wants their relationship to move from that of longtime friends to something closer. I really like Rain as a character and her relationship with Julia and Jace. Rain is caring and tenacious and I would love to spend more time with her. Read to Death at the Lakeside Library was a great read and I recommend it.

"Read to Death at the Lakeside Library" by Holly Danvers is the third book in the "Lakeside Library Mystery" series. However, it reads like a first book in a series. I honestly wouldn't have thought this had other books before it if I didn't look it up on goodreads. The characters don't seem hashed out and really quite annoying in how they seem to think they know best about everything. The boat crime scene from years ago really doesn't make any sense. Why wouldn't they have cleaned it up when they pulled it out of the water. The police would have looked at the boat, even if it was an accident. The fact that the two main characters constantly don't want to pass on some obvious evidence, without a reason other than they don't want to, is really annoying.

Another big problem I had was the timelines. Sometimes the flow seemed to pass normally. Sometimes I caught myself thinking, "wait, has it been a day or several days or was that just early this same day?" Seems very unfinished and like information is missing or out of order sometimes.

Last thing, the husky described within the book doesn't match the one on the cover. Maybe update one or the other?

This is a cute cozy mystery that has grown on me. In this third book, a book club member is killed in a way similar to their most recent read. I like the friendship between the two main characters, Rain and Julia. Romance is also in the air besides mystery. There are almost too many clues and red herrings, but I did manage to guess the murderer. This book is best read in the summer by a lake or in the midst of winter when you’re longing for summer.
