A great book to get inspiration and ideas if you're interested in rock painting.
Though I don't personally do it, my kid, who loves crafts got her first ideas about rock painting from this book and now she develops her own concepts on them. Good book to try rock painting! As the book shows, it's not that hard, but they can turn out beautiful.

I was hoping for more intricate designs. I must be more advanced than the beginner I thought I was. It would be suitable for someone not accustomed to painting.

Want to draw on rocks?
F. Sehnaz Bac together with Marisa Redondo and Margaret Vance is presenting "Rock Art for Beginners. Simple Techniques and Easy Projects for Transforming Stones into Art", published by Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry (New Shoe Press). The book is divided in seven chapters that treat topics such as "Tools & Materials", "Selecting & Prepping Rocks", "Techniques & Tips", "Mandalas", "Patterns", "Animals" and "Nature". Whereas some of the designs use one single colors others use a wide range. The various patterns are shown in a step-by-step approach that help artists to use apply them well for their own projects. The book presents itself with in a great design and with good-quality photos. There are also tips such as "Using Wood Filler" or "Transferring a design". I highly appreciated also the personal comments by F. Sehnaz Bac. I recommend this book for all those who are interested in Rock Art, may they be beginners or advanced artists.

Rock art is hot right now. Finding those colorful rocks while walking on the trail, shopping at the mall or at the ball game are just fun. A really helpful and well illustrated beginners guide to rock painting. With clear and concise explanations of where to find rocks, which tools and materials are needed and lots of ideas for decorating the rocks, I would feel confident in trying this activity. Thank you to Net Galley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

This is a really love arts and crafts book, and one that made me wish I was more arty.
Full of wonderful ideas of how to paint or colour pebbles. Starting with what tools and materials you need, including what type of rocks, to techniques and tips full of templates to make your own wonderful creations.
My favourite designs were a black and white dandelion clock, dragonfly, owl, and fox, feathers and leaves.
I definitely want to get a copy, as I’d like to give rock art a try, especially in the summer months when I can sit outside in the garden and look for inspiration.
Highly recommended if you enjoy arts and crafts.

Rock Art for Beginners (Simple Techiques and Easy Projects for Transforming Stones into Art) by F. Sehnaz Bac is an art book for anyone looking to learn to paint rocks. This could be for your own garden or to leave in places for others to fine. The cover caught my attention from the first. It was beautiful and enticed me to believe that as a beginner I could do something just as well. it begins very much at a beginner’s level with types of supplies, including how to select the correct rocks then clean for painting. It does seem to be a beginner’s book with more advanced rock painting designs included.

Since the book has more complicated designs with clear concise directions and photographs this is a book that would be useful for a long time. I haven’t read any other books on rock painting so I don’t know how this stands up against them but it seems to be one that could completely meet a new rock painter’s needs. While many just go online these days for directions I still like a real book to have in front of me when trying new crafts so that is a plus too for Rock Art for Beginners.

The publisher through Net Galley provided a digital ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

I love the kind of craft project that also includes nature, so I was thrilled to see this book! I've never actually done rock art and even though it seems pretty straightforward, I'm the kind of person that likes having a pattern to guide me. This book takes you through the whole process; it's easy to follow and has fun pictures and instructions.

I think it's time for a craft day!

Thank you so much to Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is a wonderfully colourful e-book that I read. It gives some wonderful pictures of rock and there are some fabulous ideas.

I do like rock art and I am sometimes stuck for ideas. This book has definitely opened my eyes, especially with some of the more intricate designs. The mandalas are stunning, but I am not sure if my hand and eye coordination are quite ready for those ones at the moment.

The book is laid out well, with an introduction that explains the basics, the processes, equipment and some basic techniques. There are some wonderful ideas for basic patterns such as animals, and natural art such as feathers and leaves. If you like a more colourful animal design then this is a good book, there are also more simple mono patterns and designs. While this may not be a large book there are loads of ideas. From basic to incredibly intricate.

This is a book that gives a wonderful glimpse into what can be achieved with patience, a steady hand and imagination. I can see the designs being great ideas for many other crafting projects as
well. I would happily recommend this book, it is a lovely one to look through and pick up tips, ideas and designs.

Rock Art For Beginners
4.5 Stars

What a great book! It really got my creativity flowing. Some of the completed pieces are gorgeous! I look forward to trying floral rocks.

I absolutely love the many pictures, illustrations, and tutorials. I found this book to be well balanced. I quickly become overwhelmed with pages of plain text. Rock Art for Beginners does a great job covering the fundamentals of finding and preparing your rocks, tools and materials to get started painting rocks.

The author does a great job breaking rock art into bite-sized pieces that are easy to digest. There are many tips and tricks that should improve one's chances of success. These projects start out easier, then progressively get harder. I'm impressed with the variety of designs gathered in this one book. There's something for everyone: patterns, animals, plants, mandalas or dots. My favorites were nature, flowers, and animals. I love sticking my masterpieces in my houseplants.

Overall, I'd say this book is a homerun! What a fabulous read; it's well matched artistically and very inspiring. Rock Art For Beginners is a well-written, well thought out book and it shows. I would have been happier if the patterns were included. I enjoy painting with friends. There is always one artistically challenged person in the group.

Thank you, NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group, for an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Rock Art for Beginners is a tutorial and inspiration guide for painting in various styles on rock surfaces written and curated by F. Sehnaz Bac. Originally published in 2017 (as Art on the Rocks), this reformat and re-release from Quarto on their New Shoe Press imprint was released 10th Jan 2023. It's 96 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats.

The book has an accessible and fun "vibe" from start to finish. The art is exuberant and colorful. The tutorials are clear and very well photographed. The author begins with an introductory survey of tools, supplies, and some simple techniques such as rock selection and surface prep. The following tutorial chapters are arranged thematically: mandalas, patterns (hearts, flowers, petroglyphs, etc), animals, and nature. The instructions presuppose no prior experience at all on the part of readers, and all the instructions are clearly written and easy to understand. Each tutorial includes step-by-step photo directions which have understandable short captions.

This is an upbeat and fun book which is encouraging and accessible. The rocks shown range from -very- simple to very very complex. It's not the execution which makes up the complexity, but the level of detail. Even the most complex designs will only require time and not advanced painting/artistic experience.

Four and a half stars. I really enjoyed this little book. This would be a superlative choice for public or school library acquisition, for activity groups, scouting type groups, maker's spaces, youth groups, home artist studios, and similar.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Rock Art for Beginners is hands done a beautiful book filled with creative ideas and inspiration. Great book!

I requested to see this book more so out of curiosity than anything though the book’s cover drew me in right away. After looking through it, I find myself eyeing rocks during my daily walk and ordering supplies online. Rock Art for Beginners is truly inspiring and the eye candy in this book is positively amazing! These are beautiful images and the detail in some of them is striking.

Sehnaz Bac takes the reader through the process of rock painting by discussing each step in detail. Choosing brushes and paints as well as selecting and prepping rocks are carefully covered. Technique is also examined, such as dry brushing and wet layering.

There are four categories of rock painting projects - mandalas, patterns, animals and nature. Within each category are 5-6 projects. For example, animals include a hummingbird and a turtle while hearts and flowers are in the patterns category.

I am so excited by the prospect of creating rock art because of this delightful book. If you’ve ever wanted to paint rocks then this book is for you. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - New Shoe Press.

Oooooo, lots to love about Rock Art for Beginners by F. Sehnaz Bac.

I've been through the pages twice and I will no doubt be revisiting again and again as I start my projects. The book has a wonderful layout starting with suggested supplies, giving the reader choices to use in finding their style. After this, project examples are given with step-by-step guides to help the reader artist along. These are seriously beautiful projects, starting with common mandalas using dot art to animals with multiple design elements which the author breaks down into steps that won't leave anyone attempting to recreate these pieces overwhelmed. My particular favorites are the owls and butterfly wing.

I easily recommend this book for anyone interested in rock painting; it is one of the most user-friendly books on the subject that I have read. As a person who likes to Abandon Art for others to find, the projects in this book will be so helpful in my future offerings.

Many thanks to Quarto Publishing Group and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC for review. The opinions expressed in this review are authentically mine and I was happy to provide them after reading through Rock Art for Beginners.
