*5 stars* Thank you Netgalley for the audio arc. I absolutely adored this duology and wish there was more. I loved these characters and the historical context. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed this one just as much as book one. I loved the deeper dive into the fantastical elements of the story and the move to the royals. It was so fun to see so many historical figures pop up and imagine that they didn't actually die when history said they did. Hazel was just as much of a bad ass as she was in book one and I loved it and I loved her character, so fun!

I try not to go into too much detail when reviewing sequels because I don't want to spoil the first book for anyone. I love that this duology focuses on a woman who wants to become a surgeon at a time where that was unheard of. There's a lot to admire in Hazel's love for medicine and determination to help those who can't typically afford a doctor or surgeon. I wasn't really won over by the romance in these books, but I loved most of the plot and the idea behind this series. If you're squeamish about medical stuff, these books won't be for you. Immortality ties things up pretty well and features a sapphic romance between side characters, a subplot that I really enjoyed. Overall, I'd recommend this duology if you're looking for a female MC who isn't letting society guide her life and historical fiction with a bit of fantasy!

I thought that this was a good sequel to Anatomy. Slightly Predictable but still worth the read. I still loved Schwartz writing style. I have enjoyed the narration to this book as well. This was a very easy book to listen to.Β

Thanks to NetGalley and publishers for this audiobook for an honest review.

Loved the story, maybe a little bit long but enjoyed it! Anatomy was one of my favorite reads of 2022 and I was so glad there was a continuation of the story of Hazel and Jack.

Narrator is fabulous!

For all those who loved the prequel -Anatomy - this is a must read!!!!
Immortality is one that nails the sequel, it is just as good as the original.

The audiobook narrator does an amazing job at bringing you into Hazel's world.

If you love strong female characters the existed in a time before now this is for you.

Thanks to @macmillan.audio I had the pleasure of reading 𝐈𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚π₯𝐒𝐭𝐲: 𝐀 π‹π¨π―πž 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 with my ears, and the overall performance was stunning and atmospheric. Mhairi Steenbock is Hazel, she brought Hazel and her story to life in a way no one else could.

This book is filled with love, passion, mystery, friendship, and doing what is right. Dana Schwartz took this story in a direction I was not expecting, but once we got to where we were going I was thoroughly satisfied. I will shout on the roof tops about how much I love Hazel and her dismissal of the patriocry... I need a WWHSD (What Would Hazel Sinnett Do) bracelet.

(Dark) Historical Romance is not my normal go-to read, but if it is written by Dana you better believe I'm adding it on my TBR!

This is a story about love after death.

If you enjoyed book 1, but felt very anxious about that ending- definitely pick this one up. It carries on the gothic atmosphere & spins an unsettling, but lovely narrative that explores both disenfranchisement & brilliance.

Thank you so much Macmillan Young Listeners for the Alc!

After thoroughly enjoying last year’s release of Anatomy: A Love Story, I was anxious to pick up this sequel once I learned that book one’s ending was, in fact, not the ending at all. This book was every bit as good as the first. I just loved Hazel. I was kind of crushed to discover that this is the final book! I'm seriously going to miss this world. I'll be keeping my eyes open for other stories from this author.

I really enjoyed IMMORTALITY: A Love Story by Dana Schwartz! This is the second book in the Anatomy duology. I read the first book Anatomy when it came out last year and really enjoyed it so I was very excited for the sequel. These books are great! Immortality continues following Hazel Sinnett as she does her medical work and ends up working for Princess Charlotte and engulfed in the monarchy and a special social club. I loved the setting of Edinburgh, 1818. I like how Hazel is such a strong female character. Her love story with Jack is very sweet. I was totally entertained by this story and finished this book in a couple days. I also listened to the audiobook narrated by Mhairi Morrison and Tim Campbell and they were both really great. And I love the cover underneath the dust jacket!

Thank you so much for this gifted copy.

It was so nice to finally see what happened with the cliffhanger in the first book. I really enjoyed this book. The main character is such a strong female who continues to defy odds with her medical knowledge and practices. Her helping the Queen was an interesting story line that I definitely did not see coming, but still enjoyed. Overall, I think readers will love the second part of this duality.

I read Anatomy on vacation and breezed through it in a few hours. It wasn’t quite what I expected (don’t ask me what I was expecting, I don’t know) but I enjoyed it well enough. I waffled between 3 and 4, and wasn’t sure if I would read this one because of how I felt about the first. I’m so glad I did! I don’t know if it’s because I read Anatomy and listened to Immortality, but I really enjoyed Immortality! I actually liked the β€˜filler’ other people mentioned. I liked the little club, the princess, the doctor. I wasn’t a huge fan of Jack in the first book (didn’t like or dislike him) and I kind of wanted her to stay with the doctor lol but ultimately I liked the way it ended. I would read another book from this author, this duology was a unique spin on historical fiction and I enjoyed the writing. And the covers are stunning!
the narration was fabulous, really well done.

Immortality: A Love Story
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Historical Romance
Format: Kindle eBook and Audiobook
Date Published: 2/28/23
Author: Dana Schwartz
GR: 4.03

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Macmillan Audio and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

My Thoughts: While I LOVED Anatomy, I was not happy with the ending, I had so many unanswered questions at the end, was left a tad disappointed, and was beyond excited when I heard about a follow up book. Immortality is the second in The Anatomy Duology series. This second book did not disappoint. While it is a series book, it could be read as a standalone, however, to get the full immersive experience, I would recommend reading both. The covers are both books are just fantastic. In this novel, we meet up with Hazel wondering what happened with her. The story does a great job at catch up from the prior novel.

The story is narrated by Hazel, in her POV. Hazel is a very independent women in the 1800’s practicing as a β€˜doctor.’ She is strong and courageous. Hazel, while caring for the Princess, joins a secret group, realizing it may not be what it seems. We follow Hazel through the ups and downs. While Hazel was developed well in the first novel, the continuation of her character, with even more development was just brilliant. The character development was spot on, had depth, an aspect of mystery, witty banter, and creatively done. The author’s writing style is complex, multifaceted, historical, humorous, thought provoking, and just brilliant. The author’s take on feminism is just brilliant.

I normally do not like historical books but really loved this duo. I devoured this book in under 48 hours. The audiobook narrators were top notch and really delivered on the character development, immersing you into the story. The story kept me on the edge with a wonderful ending, the perfect ending. I would highly recommend both books!

Another successful book by the lovely Dana Schwartz. Very much looking forward to promoting this to customers. Not only was the plot great but the covers are stunning!

Dana Schwartz does it again. I loved the first book in this series and much like the first one I could not put this down and felt myself going through with drawls in between readings. Our main heroine is still working in the medical area and finds herself in a bit of trouble and then in a situation only she would be able to get herself out of. Love that it is in its own way a love story but she is not left to be perceived as helpless nor does the story just revolve around that. So refreshing. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I found this book to be as enjoyable to read as the last, though the romance was still the weakest aspect of it. Simon’s relationship with Hazel was far more interesting because there was conflict, competition, camaraderie in it, whereas with Jack it’s all grand love confessions and kissing. Don’t get me wrong, those are nice and enjoyable things, but when our protagonist is such a competent, intelligent, bright, creative person and the most interesting thing about her love interest is that he loves her it’s hard not to root for Simon instead.

My least favorite part of this book, however, is that it feels like it sets up perfectly for a third book. *SPOILERS*
We followed Hazel’s medical adventures in Edinburgh, then London, and now we can do so in New York City, after she’s made some powerful enemies in The Companions to The Death, as she tries to find the cure for immortality. But as far as I can tell there’s not going to be a third book. We get no catharsis or comeuppance for Dr. Beecham or Marie Anne or The Companions, we don’t get to see how far their web reaches, what their plans are next. It’s all just done here? We’re supposed to be satisfied with our ending of Jack and Hazel in NYC together when they’re the least interesting thing about this series? I always thought the β€œLove Story” part of this series was in reference to Hazel’s love of learning, of science. It’s what always got the most focus. But as we’re set up for a larger, grander adventure, with our couple finally together and in a new country with more powerful enemies than ever, with more to lose than ever, it ends? The stakes couldn’t be higher for our characters to find the cure or to keep their family together.

I don’t truly think this will be a duology. It wouldn’t make sense for the book to be written this way and for a third to not be in the works.

I enjoyed this book more than book one. The story felt more fleshed out, and I loved seeing all of these immortals around! I’m hoping this maybe isn’t the end to the story.

I so love the covers of this duology, in my review of Anatomy, I went on and on about the heart, the brain, is just as lovely. Kuddos to the person that did this one!

I've held on to my copy of this audio book a little longer than normal, I had requested it because of the cover, but didn't realize it was the second in the duology. The narrator (Mhairi Morrison) did just a fantastic job, loved her interpretation of this world. She did a great job bringing life into it. I'm not sure how I feel of the snippets being read by a different character, I guess I get it but it was just kind of blah.

Now to the story. I absolutely adored the Mary Shelley type story of Anatomy, it was brutal in the way the beginnings of medicine was, and poignant. It was just fantastic. It was a love story about medicine and Hazel discovering her passions in a world where she couldn't really utilize those skills. This book is kind of opposite in a way. Hazel still gets to solve some medical mysteries, but seemed to be obsessing over Jack the entire time. It was more of a love store with a little extra thrown in.

We throw in some more real life things that happened change it up just enough to make it more sci-fi (I mean wouldn't it be more science over fantasy) and change the history of the world, for the world that is being made. Which is great, the first book did the same thing, but a little more subtly. I just didn't feel the spark as much with Immortality as I did with Anatomy. The stakes didn't seem as high. It was still really well written and fun to read. It just didn't capture me as much as I hoped it would.

I like the secret society thrown in and the new surgeon that acts as a mentor and friend to Hazel, the Princess story line was a bit of a let down as well. I don't know y'all it just wasn't doing it for me. I wasn't sad when it was over like the first book. Did I enjoy the over all story? Absolutely. Is it still worth the read? Yes of course. I just wish we had some more of the fantastical in it.

Calling all the pre-med girlies with a history minor β€” this is an extremely niche audience, but you will love this series! NOT for the squeamish! Medical jargon in the 1800s is truly not my thing, but I really love Hazel and Jack and this sequel was better than the OG, IMO!

I loved the first book in this series, it was so interesting and unique! I was excited to be able to read the second one. This one took me a bit longer to get into, but I eventually did and found it really good as well.
