As a private investigator, Lucy works with an exclusive group of people who help her with an uneasy job. Besides locating the missing young kids, Lucy also banishes perpetrators from the streets of their small town. With multiple cases on her hands, Lucy's path is being crossed by a "friend" who offers his help. Unfortunately, very soon she realizes that her new acquaintance plays a huge role in one of her new cases.

I would call Lucy Kendall a dark angel who frees this world of evil creatures. This is not my typical thriller, and it hit very close to home since I am also a mother. The novel was hard to read at times, but I did enjoy the characters and the work they accomplished. Although I found it a bit overwhelming since there are multiple cases Lucy and her team worked on. Overall, it is a good read, the ending was bittersweet and satisfying. I would recommend this book to my thriller-loving friends, just be aware - it is focusing on gruesome child abducting facts.

Thank you, NetGalley for a free and advanced copy of the novel.

The Girl in the Pink Shoes is the first book I have read by Stacy Green, but it won't be my last. In fact, I already have the next 3 Lucy Kendall books downloaded on my kindle. Lucy Kendall is a Private Investigator who has her own business on the side, one she doesn't get paid for. She is a vigilante who has killed several child abusers and pedophiles. She used to work as a Child Protection Services Social Worker, but when a case goes wrong, she quits. Now she works with a computer whiz, who also works for the police and a chemist to do her work. When an eight year old girl disappears and she finds out that a man who raped and murdered a schoolmate years ago lives across the street, she is sure he has her. She is joined by another man, Chris Hale, a paramedic, who tells her he is a psychopath, but he knows what she has been doing and uses that to force her to let him help. Between them, they chase down leads, work with Kailey's mother and Detective Todd Beckett to try and find her before she ends up another dead child.

What can I say about Lucy. Murder is never justified, or is it. She is a complicated woman with a different view of right and wrong. Lucy believes that in order to save others, she has to kill these abusers. There were times I liked her and cheered her on, and other times I didn't like her very much. It's a thought provoking story that I found myself thinking about long after I finished. The case was difficult, with more than one suspect which is a sad commentary on our world today. With any story dealing with child abuse, it can be difficult to read at times, but I found it was not too descriptive, but could still be a trigger to some readers. There were a lot of twists and turns and at times, I wasn't sure who to trust or who was being honest. I was glad that Lucy was willing to skirt the law a bit to get to the man who had little Kailey. I will say that once I started this book, I didn't want to stop and was lucky to have both an ebook and audiobook so I could switch back and forth depending on what I was doing. The narrator, Amelia Sciandra, does a good job with the story. She uses a lower key voice, not too dramatic, but with enough emotion to give the book the feeling of urgency in the story. I definitely recommend this book to those who like thrillers, involving other law enforcement or Private Investigators. I am ready to start the next one.

3.5 Stars

Lucy Kendall is a former social worker who is frustrated with the system, she has shifted her career to Private Investigator with a hidden secret. She scopes out current pedophiles who have escaped justice and eliminates them. One day, Kailey Richardson, wearing her brand-new pink shoes, never makes it home from school. Lucy elbows her way into the newest investigation into the missing child because one of her former pedophile cases is living across the street from Kailey and her mom. He also happens to be the brother of the lead investigator on Kailey's case and Lucy wants to make sure he is not being over looked. In her efforts to locate Kailey, Lucy will dig up long buried secrets and revelations no one is prepared for.

**may contain spoilers**
This dark gritty story took a minute to grow on me but I became invested in the main character, despite some major plot holes. I liked the concept of Lucy being a vigilante protecting innocent children and making her own kind of justice. I wish she were more committed to her cause and reasoning because she waffles and justifies her actions instead of owning the unconventional (albeit illegal) actions. She meets a wannabe copycat in paramedic, Chris Hale. She immediately opens up to him about killing these criminals and her methods, if she were this big of a blabber mouth she will be arrested in a day. Another plot point I either missed or don't understand is she became this vigilante crusader because of the main case of Justin. If she thought he was an active threat why did she not kill him immediately upon his release like the others? Some of the revelations and ending are too contrived. Overall this was a good mystery and I would be willing to see how Lucy's story develops in the next edition to the series.
I had the audio version read by Amelia Sciandra. She took me a while to get comfortable with her reading and at times her accent through me. There are a lot of characters and names which made it hard to separate who was speaking.

I have a bad habit of requesting books that are set to archive a few days later. This is one of those cases. I did not get it downloaded before the archive date.

I'm really sad about this one especially since it is book 1 in a series and I love series.

I was kindly given the chance to listen to this audiobook through NetGalley and I’m so glad that I did.

I’ve been more and more inclined to read thriller books recently and The Girl in the Pink Shoes popped up and it was great to get me back into reading them.

I really enjoyed this book and the storyline. It kept me on my toes throughout, and always making me wonder who did it & who could it be. There were so many twists and turns, I just couldn’t wait to listen to it on my journey to and from work!

Lucy’s character really interested me and I loved the fact it delved into her past and made you understand why she does what she does. I also enjoyed the interactions between her and Chris.

This book touched on so many different topics and some of it is really not for the faint hearted - especially the backstory of Justin and his family. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that this story is not just about a missing girl, there are so many other stories that all intertwine into one, it’s great.

Overall, I throughly enjoyed this book and was gripped right until the end. I would very much recommend this book to anyone looking for a good thriller and book that will keep you wondering! I look forward to reading the further books in the Lucy Kendall series.

Lucy Kendall is a Private Detective but one who takes the monsters off the street.

When a little girl goes missing Lucy is on the trail of a known child molester who lives in the area, but this molester's older brother is also the head police officer on the case.

Lucy's priority is to find the missing girl but she will have enemies of her own to deal with.

This was a fantastic read, but several trigger warnings following themes of child abuse and suicide.

I loved the character of Lucy and how her idea of justice is what fueled her. All the added characters brought depth to this novel and I loved that each had an individual background which intertwined; and that you won't see coming.

Green writes with a great narrative and incredible twists; my jaw was hanging in surprise in several places. This is a series and I look forward to continuing it.

Lucky Kendall, whose sister committed suicide after being abused by their stepfather, has left the Department of Social Services and struck out on her own as a private investigator. Lucy has a secret though. Lucy is taking justice into her own hands to deal with other abusers.

Kailey, an 8 year old with pink shoes, has gone missing and Lucy is determined to locate her before it's too late. She ends up with one of the police officers with whom she has a long and tangled history, as an unwilling ally in the search. She also is unwillingly teamed with another person, who claims to be a killer. His life is entwined with that of the mother of the missing child in an unlikely manner.

All sorts of secrets come to light in their rush to find little Kailey. Recommended for readers of thrillers who can handle stories about child abuse.

This was so good I was instantly drawn in despite the dark subject matter that I think was handled perfectly. I literally couldn’t stop listening to it devouring the whole book in 6 straight hours. I was desperate to know what had happened to the missing girl, I also loved the subplot and conflicting topic of killing to rid the world of bad people, was she correcting the justice system or just a cold blooded killer using justice as an excuse, This is a great thriller I will be talking about for a long, long time.

Twisted tall of a girl taken a momma desperate to find her baby girl and not having to relive her own nightmare in the process. Lucy is an amazing detective and shows compassion when need to and stands firm on her beliefs if the are to prove some wrong doing but still at least tries to find the little girl and not just make it another lost case. Very well written didnt have to guess what was going on because they story line was on 1 pathe and you can tell what character was being portrayed at every moment . Didn’t drag out with crazy nonsense things that had not relative to the book.

This was an interesting start to the series and I like that the main character has so many flaws.. There were a lot of twists and turns in this novel, every time I thought I had it figured out, another clue was dropped and I knew I was wrong. I can't wait to see what happens with Lucy and Todd in future books, will they become enemies or friends?

Amelia Sciandra did a great job of narrating this novel. She spoke clearly and concisely and I was able to listen to the novel at 2.5x speed and still understand everything that was being said. I would definitely listen to more books narrated by Amelia in the future.

This is the first book in the Lucy Kendall series and the first by Stacy Green I have either read or listened to and it certainly won't be the last.

Lucy has her demons from her childhood as well as the ones she carries from her previous work in Child Protection Services and now she is a private investigator but with a secret - exacting her own punishment against those who have managed to escape justice for the heinous crimes they have perpetrated against children so when 8 year old Kailey goes missing on her way home from school, Lucy doesn't waste any time getting involved but what she discovers is shocking.

With excellent, strong characters, an upsetting but plausible story line with some great unexpected twists, The Girl in the Pink Shoes is a great start to a series. I grew to like Lucy and her band of helpers and I look forward to seeing where things go for her in future books.

The narration was understated and perfect - Amelia Sciandra did a great job and kept my interest and the story moving along nicely and my thanks to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for enabling me to listen to and share my thoughts of The Girl in the Pink Shoes.

The Girl in the Pink Shoes was a book I wasn’t sure I would love. The subject is a rough one to dig into. However, the writing is fantastic and the book is so well done. The character of Lucy is well thought out, so rich, and much more relatable than I initially thought she would be. I can’t wait to continue on in this series and follow Lucy in the next book of the series!

In this audiobook we meet Private Investigator and former Child Protection officer. Although now working as a private investigator Lucy has a secret. Disillusioned by her years of working in child protection and seeing perpetrators of horrific crimes against children allowed to walk away she works with a small team of others to seek her own justice.
While following her current case she meets Chris, who claims to know her secret, he is scarily close to the truth. How has he found her out? What can she do to protect herself and her sources?
Then she hears about a missing child, 8 year old Kailey Richardson vanished on the way home from school and Lucy suspects she knows who is behind it.
As she gets involved in the case to find missing Kailey there are twists and turns and she begins to suspect Chris May some how be involved. Who can she trust and can she find Kailey in time?

I found this an interesting read, if not a little far fetched. Lucy came across as slightly naive at times and the way she let her guard down with Chris seemed at cross purposes with her character. I also felt the way she ingratiated herself into the case and her relationship with Todd the detective in charge of the case felt unbelievable, I could not see a detective behaving and allowing her to behave the way they were.

That said it was an interesting storyline and I enjoyed listening to the story unfold

he Girl In The Pink Shoes is the first book in the Lucy Kendall series by best-selling American author, Stacy Green. The audio version is narrated by Amelia Sciandra. Lucy Kendall is a CPS social worker turned private investigator with a sideline in exterminating paedophiles. Her personal history gives her more reason than most to pursue them, and she is ably assisted with IT by Kelly, a survivor of one of these creatures.

Always working alone, with her vial of cyanide she’s very efficient, and she is in a fast-food outlet, observing her latest target, Slimy Steve, as he selects his next victim, when she is approached by paramedic, Chris Hale. Chris tells her he knows what she’s doing, and he feels they should team up. Lucy is understandably wary.

Since her first kill, eighteen months earlier, Lucy has acted as judge, jury and executioner for four xxx but she sees herself as taking out the trash rather than being a serial killer.

When nine-year-old Kailey Richardson goes missing soon after, Lucy is dismayed to learn that she lived opposite a recently-released sex-offender. Justin Beckett was incarcerated for ten years for the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl when he was eleven. Lucy was his CPS case worker at the time, and still feels responsible that she didn’t see any signals to this potential behaviour.

But Justin’s older half-brother, Todd is the Philadelphia PD detective in charge of Kailey’s case, and he is convinced that his brother is innocent, and irritated, when Lucy offers her PI services to Jenna Richardson, that she is so fixated on his brother, even as there are other suspects on the radar.

Lucy’s firm hold on her conviction that former child-abuse victims are likely to follow in their abuser’s footsteps is a bit over the top, quite arrogant in fact, and doesn’t endear her to the reader when a more even-handed approach would be expected. Putting herself unnecessarily in danger? Overdone! And the hint of romance while a child is missing? Hmmm.

The premise is a bit Dexter-like, the execution is not: there’s no humour, no warm fuzzy anywhere in this tale. All the characters have had dysfunctional childhoods leading to them being psychologically damaged. This is an action-packed thriller that could do with better editing: numerous continuity issues, the plot is quite convoluted, feeling rather contrived and requiring the reader to don their heavy-duty disbelief suspenders. Here’s hoping the next three are better…

The Girl in the Pink Shoes Stacy Green Narrated by Amelia Sciandra was a brilliant psychological thriller book from start to finish. It was well written with great twists and turns that just had you gripped, especially as I wanted to find out what happened to the little girl in the pink shoes.

My baby girl. This morning she was so excited for school. I bought her new shoes last night. Pink, sparkly shoes. She loved them so much. She wore them for the first time today. And now she is gone…

It is every mother’s worst nightmare. Eight-year-old Kailey Richardson skips out of the school gates in her brand-new pink shoes and never makes it home. Between the school and the safety of her shiny red front door, someone has taken her.

Private Investigator Lucy Kendall sees the fliers of a smiling gap-toothed Kailey and knows she won’t be able to sleep until the little girl is found. Having lost her own sister to the darkest evil, she is determined to help find Kailey before it is too late.

I love the author’s Nikki Hunt series and I jumped at the chance to read these. While the writing style is the same, these are a little darker with a few graphic scenes. If you are prone to triggers, I suggest looking those up. Lucy Kendall was a social worker who turned PI. After the horrors she’s seen as a social worker, she has a secret of her own. She has turned to vigilante justice for pedophiles that she’s deemed to have fallen through the cracks and remain free for one reason or another. Lucy is a strong dominant woman. And I really liked her a lot at the start. And I’ll never waiver on what a strong female character she is, but as I kept reading, my thoughts on her changed to more uncertainty whether I liked her. It made me think long and hard about vigilantism. And while my thoughts on Lucy may have waffled, I still needed to know who had taken the child.

It was harder for me to figure out who kidnapped Kailey, because all the characters are a little shady and has quite the evil side. There are also moments of redemption to offset all of the evil.

While this book is very different than the usual crime novels I read, I really did like it. I listened to the first book and then continued reading the series. Amelia Sciandra did a great job selling this tough material.

If you love crime novels and would like to try something a little darker, you should really check out this series.

Talk about twists and turns with a bunch of "didn't see that coming"! This story takes you on a ride. I went from happy to sad to mad to angry to heartbroken in the matter of a pages. This story is well written with great characters and villains. I will caution you, once you start this one you will want to finish it in one sitting. It is that good. The narrator kept me fully engrossed in the story. I enjoyed every second of it!

The Girl in the Pink Shoes by Stacy Green @authorstacygreen is the first book in the Lucy Kendall series. Lucy was a social worker who then became a PI (vigilante) when she realized that the system didn't work and having lived the trauma of sexual abuse and loss, decides she can "take out the trash" herself. I won't spoil it, but she becomes involved in a missing persons case and man, are there twists at the end! I read this in less than two days, it's that good. I look forward to reading more in this series. Fans of true crime, thriller, police fiction, suspense will enjoy it. Thanks to @netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This was a great thriller which had a mystery feel to it which reminded me of the Sue Grafton series. It’s storyline is a tough one but delivered in a way that feels justice is being done. Content warning for paedophilia, child sex abuse and child abduction. It has parts of the story that are really hard to listen to and I had to break due to what was discussed. Lucy Kendal is certainly an intriguing character and one I’ll be following who has a passion for clearing the streets of filth. A great vigilante storyline.
