Having thoroughly enjoyed The Viaduct Killings, the first book in The Yorkshire Murders series, I knew this would be another cracking 5 star read, and I was not mistaken.

While I would highly recommend reading book 1 first, The Lonely Lake Killings works very well as a standalone book, with enough of a backstory to get a good understanding of the histories of the two main protagonists, Gardner and Riddick.

A very well written police procedural with believable characters and plot that compelled me to keep turning the pages, where ‘just one more chapter’ was repeated into the early hours! There are plenty of twists and turns and the conclusion was totally unexpected.

I can’t wait for book 3! 5*****

I couldn’t wait to get started on this and I was not disappointed at all. This is the second book in the Yorkshire Murder Series featuring DCI Emma Gardner and DI Paul Riddick. This time there is the murder of 20year old Tia Meadows to be solved and the deeper the investigation goes the deeper the secrets. This hits the ground running from page one and was totally unputdownable. Twists and turns and an absolute killer of an ending that I didn’t see coming at all I really like how each of the regular characters are connected and how their relationships with each other have continued to be developed in this book. Cannot wait for the next one in the series. Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

The first time I have read this Author but I enjoyed the style of writing. A solid four star read. Great premise. Good characters. Page turner. Plenty of suspense to keep me guessing Would definitely read the next novel. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

The second book in The Yorkshire Murders and is another tense, action packed read. Some twists and turns but for me not as gripping and gut wrenching as some of his other work. Still a very good read.

One never knows what a tragic avalanche childhood abuse will spawn. Lonely Lake Killings gives vent to horrendous outcome scenario. There are secrets and injustices upon secrets and injustices, twists and turns aplenty, compounding and impeding Detectives Gardener and Riddick's investigation of murder. Quite the thriller! A couple of drawbacks for me though were: the bad language tossed in and some of the characters liked to drink too much. All in all, I found it a riveting read that could likely keep just about any reader eagerly reading until the end.

I’m a definite fan of Wes’ writing so was thrilled to get the chance to read this and it did not disappoint.
A young girl is found dead with evidence pointing to a local recluse but is the evidence a bit too obvious? The girl herself has an interesting family with her dad being a rather infamous local character and not one to be messed with. Add to all of this the fact that a local travelling community are deeply entwined in the plot and there are past secrets coming to light about abuse which may have leaked their effects into present day…. Wes writes skilfully and sensitively and no areas are off limits. I also like the threads of the main Police characters personal lives which carry through the series so it was good to catch up with them.
I would definitely recommend this book.

Good book! This book was a decent read! It had suspense, intrigue, action, drama, and a few crazy twists! The storyline was interesting and flowed nicely! It was a little confusing in the beginning but picked up after a bit! I will recommend reading this book, it wasn't one of my all time favorite but still worth reading! Thank you netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for this eARC.

Wow, I absolutely loved this book which is the second in the authors DCI Gardner series. I thought it got off to a great start and I was drawn immediately into the story. Gardner and Riddick investigate the murder of a young local woman where all seems to point to a local recluse being responsible. I love the authors writing style here, it is very engaging, the story flows very smoothly and I became quickly invested in it and its characters. I really like Gardner and Riddick, they both have good histories and have a very good working rapport and friendship. I love the team banter, the humour, the glimpses into the main characters personal lives which in my opinion gives the story and characters more depth. There is a lot of action and different story threads that really kept me entertained - I felt like I was unwrapping layer after layer of secrets and lies as the book progressed, which just made me want to know more and what would happen next. The last part of the story is a very tense and thrilling read where everything falls into place nicely and the book races to its ending. I loved everything about this book, can’t fault it at all. Overall a fab, absorbing read which really hit the mark with me and one I thoroughly enjoyed. Wes Markin certainly knows how to engage with his readers through his writing. I’d recommend this if you like solid crime, police procedurals although I’d say read the books in order to get to know the characters from the start.

A lonely recluse. A missing girl and a community in fear. What more could you ask for in a good mystery/thriller book?

The Lonely Lake Killings is book 2 in the series. I did not read book 1, but I don't feel I missed anything regarding the characters or atmosphere. The author is able to grab the reader from the beginning and craft a story that keeps your interest while also trying to guess what will happen next.

The story has some good twists and turns, and the ending is tense.

The Lonely Lake Killings was a perfect introduction to this author, and I would recommend this book. I will check out more books by Wes Markin. I rate this a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars (rounded to 5).
