DNF @ 50%. I couldn’t get into this story and the writing, it was much to young for my preference and I found the characters to be kind of annoying.

Your Dream For Me | 3 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Your Dream For Me is a lovely story about a girl whose dream is to be a fashion designer and falls for the new theater kid at her school. They’re confronted with various situations that they have to work out in order to be together.

Your Dream For Me had me smiling at a lot of the romantic scenes but the main character’s actions sometimes seemed ruthless, impulsive, and out of place which lowered the likeness. Also the timeline confused me for the first half of the book, it wasn’t until later on that I understood the main character and her best friend where juniors and her love interest was a senior in high school.

I liked that the author included some real life topics, like the situationship with Macie, but i didn’t like how that wasn’t really solved at the end and she didn’t get the Justice and comfort she deserved. The communication in the book was a topic to be worked on. Nathaniel’s intentions at the end of the book were good and pure, but without communicating them in the right way it seemed as if everything was going upside down, same with Scarlett.

This book had a lot of potential, there were just some factors that mixed the story and my feelings for it. Still, it is a nice book.

Your Dream For Me was such a fun and lovable read for me, and took me back to high school! I especially enjoyed the relationship between main character Scarlet, and her best friend, Macie. This book dealt with the struggles of being a teenager and all of the transitions that take place during our final years in high school. The author captured the high school love between Scarlet and Nathaniel so perfectly, and had me rooting for them the entire time. I loved all of the other characters in the book, and especially enjoyed how Scarlet stuck by Macie through a very difficult time.

Overall, I found this book to be so enjoyable, that I was able to finish it in one day because I just could not put it down! I highly recommend this YA book.

A typical YA romance book imo! I think if I were reading this when I first started high school, this would be way more enjoyable and cute. Lots of typical relationship cliches and problems, miscommunication, spiraling reactions-- all of the typical things that happen when you're young and haven't fully developed yet (but these actions will lead to that growth). I wasn't able to really connect with the characters too much and the love part even fell a little flat to me. But it also reminded me of when I would get a crush on some rando in high school after saying literally 1 word to them so...i get it !!

Thought I would love it way more because I love reading about fashion and sewing and cute lil romances but didn't hit the spot for me. Thought I would love it way more because I love reading about fashion and sewing and cute lil romances but didn't hit the spot for me. I WILL SAY, I didn't expect this type of ending for a YA book!

For a YA romance book, it's incredibly cute and adorable. Really plays into that first love vibe where you fall head over heals while also dealing with friendship drama. And props to the author for including a serious plotline with Macie and how she dealt with that but a part of me also feelings like it was a secondary plotline that wasn't wrapped up very well in the end and was used more as a plotline for Scar than Macie.

However, the only issue is that I did kind of want Scar and Gavin together towards the end.

Overall, I feel the book could have done with being a bit longer, it has so much potential but could have done for feeling a little bit more at the ending rather than eh.

This book made me feel: Nostalgic

Your Dream for Me put me right back in high school. It was a light YA Romance that truly nailed the voice of a focused, nerdy, teenage girl. As I was reading, I kept thinking how Scarlett's ego-centric world, tendency to make small things big, internal awkwardness, and mild-obsessive thoughts about her crush could have been my own a decade back. While the writing lacked a little depth and feeling for my personal preferences, this was an overall fun read.

I would recommend this book for any teenage girl trying to find their way in love and life.

Firstly, thank you to NetGallery for providing this ARC.

Your Dream For Me is the debut YA novel by Alison Schaffir. This cute romance novel follows the main character of Scarlett as she embarks on a new stage of life, 17 years old and ready to take on the world. Scarlett is hoping to follow her dreams of becoming a fashion designer, something her parents and her best friend support and want to help her achieve. While Scarlett is looking for her best friend Marnie outside the school theatre department, she bumps into the very handsome, very talented and swoony Nathaniel. Nathaniel also has big dreams, hoping to become an actor in his future. Scarlett’s crush on Nathaniel begins to blossom as their friendship grows and their relationship becomes stronger… I won’t share anymore with the hopes of not sharing spoilers.

This book had the potential to be a great YA romance, but it just fell a little flat for me. I was very excited to read this book as I loved the concept. The illustrations on the cover are gorgeous and really eye catching. However, the book was just too short, I never got to know the characters well enough to draw strong opinion on them and felt disconnected from the story because of the lack of character depth. Scarlett seemed like such a great character but I really struggled to understand her and connect to her. The book would have benefited from a few more chapters in the beginning to introduce us in detail to Scarlett and those surrounding her. The writing style was easy to read yet lacking in flare, I wasn’t gripped to the pages and wanting more.

Overall, the book was a pleasant read but I wish there was more depth to the characters and a little more plot to explore.

“One day, this chapter in my life might seem like a distant memory: a hazy picture no longer in focus“

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book!

A must-read for theatre kids! An amazing debut novel, with loveable characters. The characters feel real, with them having flaws that are spoken about and addressed throughout the book.

The romance between the two main characters was sweet, with it’s ups and downs. I love how this books shows the reality of love, and how it is rarely ever perfect.

!!Slight spoilers ahead!!

One thing however,
I do wish Macie’s sexual assault was spoken about. Yes, it was addressed and spoken about for a bit, but it was sort of brushed under the rug nearing the end. S/A is such a major issue, I just wish the author went more in depth with it

This book was such a cute read. I loved the characters and the love story blossoming between Scarlett and Nathaniel. I also loved the friendship between Macie and Scarlett as well. I really enjoyed the sentimental feeling I got thinking about my own high school sweetheart.

This novel follows Scarlett who dreams of becoming a fashion designer &Nathaniel who's dream is to be a famous actor.

This book brings you back to the daily life of high school and all it entails. High school parties, friendships, bullies, and a few tough serious topics (sexual assault)...

This novel is an easy read & I would recommend !!

This was such a fun YA. It was a very easy read and I read it in one sitting. It dealt with everyday struggles of being a teenager. I loved the theater aspect and references in this book. It brought back memories of me being in musical theater in highschool and “ all that jazz”. The love interest and enemies to lovers was cute but sadly wanted a little more. Overall fun and recommend to all my theater nerds youngsters out there.

I thought that this book was NA but it turned out a YA rom-com. Which don't get wrong. I really love YA. But this book was a miss for me. The character fell flat and although the story was good I got bored, hence the 3 stars.

The moment I read the first 2 pages, I felt myself already drawn in, The love - hate relationship made me feel like I was there and I was part of all the drama that was happening, really drawn me in, and that’s what made it hard for me to put this book down, it just made me want to know more and what was going to happen next.

At times I enjoy reading YA books and thought this one would be interesting. Scarlett has her eye on the prize of what she wants after high school. Scarlett does everything by the book and follows the rules. You see her struggle with her friend who is making choices that Scarlett doesn’t exactly agree with, but sticks up for her friend. Enter Nathaniel who changes a little bit of everything.

The book is about normal high school struggles and learning to make decisions and dealing with high emotions. There is good advice that’s written in here. However I was left wanting more substance.

Thank you #NetGalley for the advance copy

I really loved this, it was such a cute story. Scarlett & HS me were very much the same, so this was nostalgic for me. Hoping for a sequel where we get to see the MCs in college. 8/10 recommend

This was such a fun and easy YA contemporary/romance to read. I managed to read this entire book in under 24 hours.

I really appreciated that even though the story at its core is a romance, we still got to see Scarlett’s relationships with her friends and parents, which is often overlooked in a lot of romances.

I also enjoyed that Scarlett was really passionate about fashion design. Seeing her interest and passion for fashion really helped develop her character and make her feel real.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and found it to be a quick, fun and easy read.

Your Dream For Me by Alison Schaffir is a sweet young adult story of love and friendship. Scarlett is seventeen and has dreamed of becoming a fashion designer for years, a dream that is supported by her parents and her best friend Macie. While waiting for Marnie and exploring the costumes in her school's theatre room , Scarlett meets Nathaniel, a new student with an artistic dream of his own, to become an actor. When Scarlet is gifted a sewing machine by her parents she turns to the drama teacher for help as they produce the school costumes for performances, and soon she is stitching away with the added benefit of being close to her new crush Nathaniel. Everything in Scarlet's world seems to be going to plan until she has a falling out with Macie , and then to make matters even worse Nathaniel starts to pull away. As the end of the year approaches it looks like her friendships are unravelling and even her newly found sewing skills may not be enough to save them.
I really wanted to love this book, the premise sounded really fun but unfortunately it was something of a let down for me. The writing style was stiff and a lot of the dialogue felt stilted and unnatural . The characters didn't feel very realistic, particularly Scarlett who was depicted as incredibly sheltered for a seventeen year old on the verge of moving to New York. Also what teenager dreams of being a designer without any skills other than drawing, surely she would have done some sewing by this point in her life, and then to be able to flawlessly execute a fifties inspired prom dress within weeks of learning to sew a straight line , it was all just a little too easy.

Super cute YA romance. Loved how realistic the characters were and how relatable everything was. It's been a minute since I've read a high school romance like this and it has been a breath of fresh air.
