Wow, another one knocked out of the park! Thanks to #NetGalley for the chance for the early read. This book is as good as the first if not better. I really like Madison, she is quite the character and whoa to those who don't take her seriously. Besides the influencer lite vibe, Maddy obviously got some smarts and backbone from Great Aunt Octavia and her dad the Admiral! That she can be vulnerable but also finding her new self, realizing what is really important to her in her new life in New Bison is what makes her an interesting character. Not to mention that she continues to find herself in the middle of some weird things going on in her new home town, as murder and mayhem continue, as people from her friend's pasts show up unexpectedly and not with good intentions. This is a saga that I do not believe is totally finished, so well worth your time.

I love cozy mysteries in general, but this series is quickly becoming a favorite! It has murder, baking, a protective dog, and a sassy grandma!

When a guy comes to town threatening to open a rival bakery but instead ends up dead, Maddy once again finds herself at the center of an investigation. Maddy and her friends have to find out who did it before someone they care about is implicated.

I enjoyed the continuation of the overarching mystery from the first book, but this one definitely leaves me with more questions. It's a quick read and maintains the lighthearted tone with just enough idea of danger to keep it interesting. Looking forward to the next one!

Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review!

A great follow up to Two Parts Sugar, One Part Murder in the Baker Street Mystery Series! I loved all the extra tidbits you get in a second cozy with fun info on the community as well as the patrons. Maddie finds herself involved in another murder mystery as well as trying to save her bakery!

I loved the introduction of a few new characters as well as revisiting some favorites! This one has the humor, found family and the larger than life mastiff named Baby that will steal your heart. I recommend starting with book one because this one jumps right into where it left off. I’m highly anticipating the next in the series and I can’t wait to see what happens in the town of New Bison!

I am a fan of big babies and Maddie's mastiff Baby is a big hard not to love baby. This is part two in the series. I have read part one but will do so soon. This book can be read as a standalone but you will want to devour the first book after falling in love with Maddie's family. There is also Ms. Hannah. She is Maddie's boyfriend's grandmother. She has early onset dementia. The care and concern given to her as well as her care workers makes this book golden, in addition to solving the murder mystery.

I really loved Valerie Burns’ first book in the series “Two Parts Sugar, One Part Murder”. I looked forward to reading the next book in the series “Murder Is a Piece of Cake”.

In this book, Maddy enters a bakery contest The only problem is that she is not the best baker (yet). Things get worse for Maddy when a rich out of towner shows up and the baking contest and Maddy’s life gets more complicated. A murder soon happens and almost everyone is a suspect. Maddy and her friends need to solve the murder fast. What’s not to love.?

This was a wonderful cozy mystery. I enjoyed this book even more than the first one. I have a soft spot for Baby, Maddy’s 250 pound English Mastiff. Baby has a spotlight in a sub story in this book. He is big, beautiful and a good judge of character.

I was also moved by how Maddy respects and interacts with her boyfriend’s grandmother Hannah Portman. Hannah is in the early stages of dementia. This is a real scenario happening in families. Valerie choose to have a character in her book with this illness. This is a bold choice and not normally one that you would think to include in a cozy mystery. What I love about Valerie’s treatment of this character is that everyone around Hannah is loving and Hannah is part of the team figuring out who did the murder.

If you read “Two Parts Sugar, One Part Murder”, I think you would.really enjoy this one. If you haven’t read the first book in the series, I highly recommend you start there and read both books.

I recently read the first book so I was so excited to see there was a second and am grateful to the publisher and Net Galley for letting me read this in exchange for a review. I devoured it the way the characters devour Soul Cake. I do wish the bigger mysteries were solved in this book because I want to know if I've figured it out!!! But it just makes me look so much forward to the next one. I think its cute and cozy and an easy read. Looking forward to the next installment.

Maddy is a strong woman who is also soft hearted especially when it comes to her 250 pound dog. Now a recent murder has her battling to help her closest friends as she tries to follow her father's strict military approach to solve aspects of the murder. However, her emotions keep getting in the way.

Compassionate and humorous characters make this an enjoyable story. This is the second book in A Baker Street Mystery series but could easily be read as a standalone. Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.

I love this series. Maddie is a great amateur sleuth, she thinks about everything. and then puts them all together to figure it out but ,of course, not without putting herself in danger . She ran a bakery in New Bison, Michigan. called Baby Cakes.April was sheriff but was not allowed to work this murder because he was her husband. Trooper Roberts was heading the investigation .Now it all begins. This is one that for me was hard to figure out. A VERY GOOD COZY MYSTERY READ,

A pleasantly surprising contemporary cozy mystery that's well-written, fun, and trendy. This novel is the second book in a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. It took a couple chapters to get a feel for the MC, but I'm not sure if it's because I hadn't read the previous book or because the MC isn't your typical cozy mystery lead. She's a city girl in a small town, a bakery owner who doesn't bake, at least not what the reader may expect, a fashionista, and a 20-something amateur sleuth. The author has molded a hodgepodge of unlikely characteristics into a intriguing MC. Lots of fun and endearing supporting characters as well. This book is a cozy mystery for those readers who want something a little different.

Such a cute series!!! First I want a Mastiff and second I want to move to Michigan to solve murders. The only thing I don’t like is my suspicion there’s still a secret murderer that we don’t know about in New Bison. I can’t wait for the next book.

I love a good Foodie mystery! This is a deliciously cozy mystery with just the right amount of small town charm. Perfect light read for a crisp fall day!

I loved getting to see how the Babycakes Bakery is doing in the second book in this series! The crime was a puzzler and the characters are sweeter than cake! Must read for sure!

Murder is a Piece of Cake is the second book in the series. Yes, I am still reading out of order as this is an advance copy due to be published this summer.

The follow-up was not as entertaining as the first book in series; although, it is a worthy read. The author showed more of Maddy's personality and social media skills. Despite her inexperience in the kitchen, Baby Cakes turned into Michigan's must-visit bakery. Then a competitive investor swoops into town and you guessed it...another mystery for Maddy to solve.

Murder is a Piece of Cake is a quick read recommended to culinary cozy mystery lovers. It can be read in one lazy weekend or after a few nights before bedtime to unwind. No complex details, no string of suspects and light humor. Go ahead and place your pre-order!

Happy Early Pub Day, Valerie Burns! Murder is a Piece of Cake will be available Tuesday, June 27.

Disclaimer: An advance copy was received directly from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Opinions are my own and would be the same if I spent my hard-earned coins. ~LiteraryMarie

I loved this. Such a fantastic second book in a series. Plus there are recipes. Maddy is growing as s baker and business owner and I'm so happy for her. I adore her and friends who are now like family. And I like how the mysteries are unfolding. I can't wait to read book three.

After reading two romcoms with heroines who read cozy mysteries and watch Murder She Wrote (Happy Place and Business or Pleasure), I found myself itching for a cozy myself. This bakery-themed one was... fine. It's apparently the second in a series and I'm not sure I'll keep going, but it was easy and fun enough in the moment, if a little too pat (even for the genre) for my taste.

This was so, so cute! I’m normally not a huge fan of cozy mysteries, I’ll read one every once and a while but they’re not my go to reading but I devoured the first book in this series in 3 days and read this one in 2!

Maddy is such an enjoyable character and I absolutely love the relationship with her and Michael; and I hope we get to meet the Admiral at some point so he can see what a smart and independent person Maddy is.

I think my only issue is that it felt like the ending wasn’t wrapped up. I know it’s setting up the next book, but I want Maddy to stand up for herself and tell them she knows what she saw, not accept a poor explanation from the other characters and leave it alone. Especially when the same thing happened in the first book!

That aside, it’s still one of my favorite books I’ve read so far this year. It’s funny, sweet, romantic, and has enough mystery to keep you guessing the entire time!

This is definitely my new favorite series. I love seeing how much Maddy has matured and is coming into her own. One of my favorites in this book was Candy. She's just a bit air headed but so sweet. I'm excited she will have a coffee shop close by so hopefully will be a regular in the series.
Can't wait for the next book and to get to know the Admiral!

When I saw that the second book in Valerie Burns's series called A Baker Street Mystery was available on Net Galley, I quickly requested an ARC. Fortunately, my request was accepted and here we are! I enjoy the setting of this book as I know it is based on the lovely, western Michigan town, of New Buffalo.

We are back in town with Maddie who is almost ready to re-open Baby Cakes Bakery after the unfortunate events of the last book. April, Michael, Miss Hannah, and Leroy are back and once again trouble comes to their doorstep. I found this to be a good mystery, I wasn't sure who was doing the murdering and given the ending, the killer may very well still be out there. PLUS this book ends right before Maddy's Navy Admiral Dad is supposed to show up, so you've got me, Valerie Burns, I'm gonna pre-order the next book just as soon as I can!
In between the murders, Maddy spends time with Michael at a winery that is very on-point for the area, there are lots of wineries! She also expands her small baking repertoire and I was really happy to see the recipe for her lemon meringue pie as well as her entry into the Spring Fling Festival.

5 Stars, Thank you Net Galley for the ARC! All the opinions are mine!

When I read the first book in this series, I was on the fence if I'd continue, until about 50% in. I had a hard time liking Maddy However, the second half of the book she started to mature and I ended the book knowing I'd read the next in the series.
Murder is a Piece of Cake was a delight from beginning to end. I loved reading how Maddy has grown and formed true friendships with the folks of New Bison. All the characters are great and Baby is a sweet boy (I'm really loving dogs in my books lately)!
How I wish I could go to Baby Cakes Bakery and meet all these people.
I am looking forward to book three!

Maddy is just getting her Baby Cakes bakery ready to open again after a fire, and trying to figure out what she's going to bake for the Spring Baking Festival; when she learns another bakery is opening in town. If that's not enough on her plate the other bakery's owner is found dead, in her shop. She has to figure out who killed the man before she's locked up for it.
I love the light tone of the books, there's humor and a bit of romance, and of course Baby her pet Mastiff is also a plus. The mystery is well done and I enjoy all the characters that help Maddy find the real killer. I can't wait to read more.
