Wow, I was not expecting the turn this book took. I found all of the characters very likable, albeit frustrating at times. The big twist connected everything up nicely and made some of the scenes make a lot more since. Overall I found this to be a really enjoyable read.

I did catch what I believe to be a bit of a mix up in Chapter 23. I believe it should have said “I smirk” - had to read that scene a couple of times to make sure I understood the conversation correctly.

This one was super slow going for me. I found the first 70% of the book boring and slow. While the last 30 is where things got interesting I was already over how it had been going and ready for it to end. I’m again surprised by how highly rated it is on here.

Shanora Williams is such a great author. Her latest novel was fun, twisted, and had so much suspense. This was a book I read on a long car ride and let me tell you- the drive flew by for me since I had this book to read. The twist at the end was not at all what I predicted. Great book for those who like psychological thrillers. Many thanks to the publisher and to Netgalley for the ARC. I definitely recommend this book.

Overall this was a good book!
The twists were hard to figure out but everything tied together in the end.
I did however struggle with the liking the MC and questioning why she wouldn’t just leave her husband but in the end it made sense.
I’m not sure what exactly it was about the book but I struggled to stay interested and often found myself wanting to put it down. It just didn’t grab me as much as I would have liked.
I think overall 3.5 ⭐️

I literally stayed up the entire night to finish this book, and Because of the plot twist, I never I saw coming it was totally worth.

The plot idea was so good, like how do you all get the ideas?, like I kept guessing a bunch of reasons on why, the book was the way it was. And sadly none of them were true. The writing is so easy to go through.

But the reason it's three stars and not four or five, is because I didn't find the characters likable at all, they annoyed so many times through out the book, especially adira.

Please look up the TW before reading this book.

This book was very entertaining. 4.5/5 stars. It’s the story of a wife who will stop at nothing to get her cheating husband back. Or maybe that’s just what the author wants you to think.

I found myself scratching my head a few times during the story at the character’s reactions to certain things. To me, it seemed like certain reactions and conversations that the characters had would never happen like that in real life. Then the twist came and brought whole story together. And suddenly it all made sense.

The twist was really good. I didn’t see it coming at all. And the story building up to the twist was great. I would definitely recommend this story if betrayal.

Author, Shanora Williams starts off this story with a letter to her readers.
In this letter she tells us that this story was very difficult for her to write. She then warns us there are trigger warnings ~ sexual and child abuse that may be difficult for many to read. States she understand that this will be difficult for many readers, goes on to say that she loves and respects that protecting your peace should always be a priority.

This, of course had me wondering if I wanted to continue. I was curious so thought I would at least start.

Story is told from the POV of Adira and there are flashbacks every 8 or so chapters.

Adira Smith-Cortez is happy with her life. She has a successful career- in fact, is a self-made-millionaire the owner of a clothing company “Lovely Silk’.
She is very much in love with her husband Gabriel whom she has been with for seven years and married for two years. Yep she has it all! Although hasn’t been successful in conceiving a child but figures there is still time.

. But she finds out that her husband is cheating on her. She follows him and spots him with a beautiful woman and kisses her. Adira checks his phone and discovers a message from Julianna. He is being careful and deletes the message before Adira can find them. Then she checks email and find a note only not from Julianna but someone named Jocelyn. It appears he has two mistresses!
Adira contacts Jocelyn to tell her to stay away from her husband. Jocelyn responds that she would like to meet. . When they meet Adira informs Jocelyn that she is ‘the other mistress’ that he has Julianna – the original mistress.
Jocelyn is dumped by Gabriel and now Adira and Jocelyn are working together to end the affair Gabriel is having with Julianna.
Hmm Why is Jocelyn helping Adira? Also why doesn’t Adira just dump the two-timing Gabriel?
It sure seems obvious that something if off about this situation.

I hung there. Yes! There are twists and turns and we find out what is really going on the end. Of course, I had no clue.

At the end of the book, in addition to the ‘Acknowledgements’ there are discussion questions. No doubt Question #10 will be a conversation starter~!

As a feminist, I really wanted to dislike the main character for running back to the cheating husband, but it all came together in the end. Major props to the author for including a trigger warning at the beginning of the book- I wish this was standard practice. Overall, a 5 star read!

I was drawn in by the mentioning of Tarryn Fisher. I was u huge fan of her book “the other wives” and I was really hoping I would get just as much of the thrill from this book.
We follow Adira, who is having it all. A successful company, married to her dream men, living in a dream house…. But then she finds out the love of her life is cheating on her. Not with one woman, but with different woman. But Adira isn’t ready to let go. She can’t imagine life without Gabriel and wants to try for a baby desperately.
The other mistress is an engrossing read, but sometimes it needs a bit more editing.
The first half of the story I was really frustrated with Adira almost begging Gabriel not to leave her. I really like strong female characters who stand up for themselves and in that first half of the book Adira most certainly wasn’t one of them. But I must admit that you start to understand her better as the book progresses.
The ultimate plot twist left me a bit torn. I absolutely loved part of the twist. Just the kind of mindfuck I am looking for in a book. But the way her relationship with Gabriel was explained left much to be desired.
All in all a very good thriller that I would highly recommend.

This story is primarily narrated by Adira and Jocelyn - Adira finds out that her husband, Gabriel, is having an affair with Jocelyn and another woman Julianna. Adira emails Jocelyn to tell her to stop sleeping with her husband - Jocelyn convinces Adira to meet up and they decide on a plot to split up Gabriel and Julianna since Adira wants him back.

Throughout the book I wanted to shake Adira since her husband is cheating with 2 other women (2!!) and she keeps fixating on how great he is and how much she wants to be with him and how she can't let him go. She's an otherwise ridiculously successful character but when Gabriel is involved, she has no self confidence or self esteem. I wanted to send her to hike the PCT or go to countries starting with "I" or something to learn how to be strong and confident on her own.

I didn't love that both mistresses' names started with "J". Especially in the beginning, it was hard to keep them both straight. As I got to know them, it became easier, but it would've been nice to have a different letter in the mix. It also became a bit confusing as other characters (maybe singular character) narrated chapters, though I think those were mostly 3rd person.

Drinking game - anytime someone "smirks" in the book, take a drink. That's clearly the author's favorite verb. It drove me nuts for the amount of time everyone was smirking at everyone else.

There were 2 twists/reveals. 1 I was able to guess (partially because of some errors my ARC version had which gave it away) and 1 was a surprise. The big reveals and resolution left me more confused than satisfied. I liked them at first but the more I thought about, the more questions I had. (view spoiler) I had other questions but I can't think of them right now.

It was a decent book with a more unique storyline than others I've read but ultimately left me feeling unsatisfied. It was a quick read and overall, engaging.

The Other Mistress is an intriguing read. You are immediately introduced to our main character Adira who is a very successful business owner plus has a handsome husband Gabriel. Her life seems perfect, but then everything starts to crumble as she discovers that her husband has not one, but two mistresses. In a moment of desperation she reaches out to one of the women and together they start working to break up Gabriel and the other mistress. However, the deeper you get into the story, the more things starts to not add up anymore. Adira is a very frustrating MC as she seems to want to be with Gabriel, even though he’s a horrible husband. There are some flashbacks of Adira’s troubled childhood which help explain how Adira became the person she is now. I could not put the book down and even though I did figure out the final twist, I feel the author left the reader some good hints so I was happy I picked up on them. I enjoy a build up to a twist instead of something coming out of the blue to the reader. I will be adding more of Shanora Williams books to my TBR list!

Oh Shanora you really got me on this one! Nothing like spending the first portion of the book thinking the main character needed to stand up for herself to then get hit with a huge plot twist. You know it’s good when you verbally say “wait what?!” out loud and all the pieces start falling into place. Any thriller lover should add this to their future TBR! A fast-paced read with a great twist. Highly recommended for super compelling read-in-one-sitting appeal!

Overall a great thriller, little different than most others I've read.
I didn't love all the characters, but in this story that is a good thing. The plot was good, flowed easily, and had a great twist in it. The ending was absolutely surprising!

This is such a quick and easy read. I read it start to finish in one sitting. It gave me all the Tarryn Fisher's the Wives vibes, so if you know me, you know I loved it. This one definitely leans more on romantic suspense for the first half, rather than psychological thriller. But I was here for it!

I loved the layers of the story and the characters were easily developed so I latched on quickly and rode the story until the end.

My only complaint is the big twist was easy to predict very early on (like, 20% in). Even still, I enjoyed myself.
