I struggled to put this book down, and that's not a problem at all...except when I need to get on with things. Some of the storyline is a little far-fetched, but I love the idea of a woman getting vengeance for so many other women out there. Wild storylines are some of my favorites as they're so entertaining, and that's something that The Next Girl offers. The sometimes far-fetched storyline is why it gets 4 stars out of 5. It just got to a point where it wasn't believable but it was entertaining to read.

Something that I really love is that Billie is not always likable. She's not perfect. This is a woman who knows she has flaws and she's not really all that interested in working on those flaws. She doesn't want to work on them for herself, but for others, and that means she doesn't really want to work on them. If you don't like a main character who is fleshed out, then you're not going to like Billie at all. I love her.

The Next Girl is the top thriller I have read this year. I could NOT put this book down Billie is the main character that I would want as a best friend. Vigilante Shit by Taylor Swift was playing on repeat in my head as I read this book and I lived the musical references throughout and the QR code the Spotify playlist!

The story is fast paced and there are many twists that leave you wondering what will be next as nothing is as it seems.

This was my first Pip Drysdale book and I will be reading all the rest of hers! 5 stars!!!!

I wasn’t sure how I felt about this one right away; I was very interested but unsure where it was going. Then you get a little further in and the twists keep coming! I loved how quickly I was able to read this because I was dying to know what happened. I loved this and now I need to read more from this author!

Well just wow! I couldn't put this book down. Amazing writing, plot, characters, twists and ending. This novel just flows perfectly! You need to read this book! I haven't read this author before but I'll be reading her other books for sure
Billie is the main character, she is likable, works for a law firm, likes to help/save people. As we make our way through the story, Billie tells her story and from time to time tells us about her past to help us understand her better and make sense of her actions. She recounts parts of her life for us and we start to put the pieces of her world together. Her mother died when she was young, she has broken up with her boyfriend, goes to AA, works hard at her job, until she loses her job. There's no time to feel sorry for herself as she needs to earn money, but she was fired for something she didn't do.
This was an on the edge of your seat read! Just awesome, as the story unfolds and Billie realizes what is going on in her world we are on this wild ride with her.

I liked the writing style of this novel, great plot, character description, easy to remember who is who. Honestly loved this novel. Can't wait for the next novel from Pip Drysdale and to check out her previous books.

Talk about compulsively readable! Not all thrillers grab you right away but this one did and I was sucked right in. Told in a.very casual style, like Billie is shooting the shit with her girlfriends at a bar in Manhattan after work on a Friday night, her story comes pouring out. What kept me page turning I think was that it avoided many of the typical thriller tropes, was well plotted and paced and while it certainly had its share of twists, wasn’t overly twisty or crazy in that sense. A really fun read that will probably make a really fun movie.

This was such a good book! It had me hooked from the very beginning until the very end. And just when I thought I knew how it was going to play out, it hit me with a twist I did not see coming.

Oh boy, what a ride! This book gripped me right from page 1. Our protagonist, Billie, has some very serious problems. Her legal firm just lost a case, and it seems to be her fault. One of the witnesses that she personally found has lied on the stand and a total douchebag has gone free and is happily posting on Insta. But Billie has got skillz. Hacker skillz. Also, Billie has a past. She's lost more than one job, her AA sponsor is on her back about her drinking, and her past is coming back to haunt her.

This was non-stop heart-pounding suspense. And I don't say that lightly. Most books don't get me this involved. But Billie is in big trouble and I really connected with her. (Don't misread me - I'm not like her, I swear!) This book would really appeal to people who like super twisty suspense thrillers. There is no slow burn here. I really loved the hacker aspect, although some of it went right over my head. It did get a bit confusing at one point because there seemed to be a lot of bad guys, but in the end it doesn't really matter who did what as long as Billie isn't murdered, doesn't go to jail, doesn't get roofied again.....

This was so good! There was zero time wasted before I was completely sucked into the story. Our main character Billie is a complete mess but also a crazy intelligent badass. It was interesting to see how everything played out and tied in together. I loved the reveals and the turns, of which I didn't predict about half. That's a win in my book!

This was my first Pip Drysdale book so my question is, which of her books should I read next?

I am the type of reader that needs to be invested by the end of the 3rd chapter or I'm done. The Next Girl had me invested by the 3rd page.

Pip Drysdale had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what happened at the bar and who is Josh.

If you like a mystery you'll love this book

Thank you to Pip Drysdale, Simon & Schuster Canada, and NetGalley for providing me with an ebook copy of The Next Girl for me to read and review. Wow! What a wild, addictive plot. I was immediately sucked into the story and I did not want to put it down! There were a couple of twists that I anticipated, but numerous others that I did not see coming! The gradual introduction to the main character and her backstory was excellently done to keep readers on the edge of their seats craving the next tidbit that will be learned. Definitely a must read for all lovers of fast paced, suspense-filled thrillers.

I delighted in the plot of this intense thriller! Billie will do whatever it takes to see justice for her clients and friends. Men just shouldn’t be able to ruin lives and get away with it! And she’s good at it, getting vengeance. Well, except for that one time, but that really wasn’t her fault. She was really just trying to help. But with this latest case, she may have met her match!
I loved all the music references and admired her hacking abilities, and even though she’s a really flawed character, I was rooting for her all the way. I loved the page turning thriller!
Thanks to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for an eArc of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Next Girl – Pip Drysdale

When Billie wakes up in a stranger’s bed, she can’t help but struggle to remember what happened the night before. She sees the time and makes a quick exit to make it to work in time to clean herself up and face the day ahead of her. As the previous day comes back to her, she knows that whatever is waiting for her at work, isn’t going to be good.

Because of the Samuel Grange case, Billie is now jobless. Not only did she lose her job because of him, but there is no justice for Jane Delaney and somehow, they made it look like Billie was to blame. The anger she feels for this man festers and she can’t help herself.

Billie slips into her old ways, desperately needing to expose him for the truth. But when Samuel is found dead, and Billie’s DNA is found, among other things, Billie knows someone is on to her, and she must find them before they ruin her life.

I went into this one blind, not really expecting a murder mystery type book, but I’m so glad it was. This book was quite different from any other’s that I have read. And when I was finished, I noticed the comparison to Promising Young Woman and I would have to agree with it. If you liked one, you’ll like the other. If you’re looking for a super easy read, where you’ll be rooting for the main character to kick butt, this is the one! ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!

The Next Girl was a fast-paced, twisty read reminiscent of the film, Promising Young Women. The story follows Billie, an early-career paralegal, who is blamed by her law firm for losing an important case. In the fallout, we learn that Billie is a strong, fearless, and certainly tech-savvy heroine who is more than she appears and has her fair share of secrets! The narration style was unique (much like Billie was talking directly to the reader), and secrets were revealed in a way that had me furiously flipping through the pages to get to the next chapter.

The beginning of the novel started out strong, but became a bit far fetched towards the end. There were some events in Billie’s past (which I won’t reveal to keep this review spoiler free!) that I felt were underdeveloped and would have helped to provide a greater understanding of her motivations. Overall, I devoured this book and will be sure to check out more of Pip Drysdale’s work! 4 ⭐️

Very intriguing & fast paced. Every chapter left me wanting more, I loved the thrill! I’ve never read a book about a paralegal before & I really enjoyed it.
I really liked Billie & the way she stuck her nose into every situation to help save people, even if it was illegal. There wasn’t a dull moment. I never read a Pip Drysdale novel but hopefully won’t be my last!

I’d Definitely check out trigger warnings if there’s something that may trigger you!

Dark, tight, and complex!

The Next Girl is an intense, edgy thriller that takes you into the life of Billie Spencer-Tate, a young paralegal with a knack for losing her day job, who after losing her mother to suicide due to an online troll, spends the majority of her time and effort using her high-tech knowledge and social media skills to hunt down, identify, select, and hand out her own style of justice to those men who abuse, prey, and gaslight women, with her latest target being the arrogant, despicable, dangerous Dr. Samuel Grange who she is determined to expose.

The prose is taut and gritty. The characters are consumed, unpredictable, and secretive. And the plot builds quickly as it twists, turns, shocks, surprises, and unravels all the personalities, behaviours, relationships, and motivations within it.

Overall, The Next Girl, at its core, is a novel about secrets, manipulation, friendship, coercion, obsession, control, cunning behaviour, tragedy, violence, and vengeance. It’s a highly suspenseful, exceptionally clever tale by Drysdale that highlights everything is not always as it appears and is definitely one of the most gripping page-turners I’ve been lucky enough to read this year.

This is my first exposure to this author and I was not disappointed. The author has delivered a fast paced and deliciously wicked tale. The characters are well rounded and come across as believable, whether you love them or hate them. This provocative, somewhat dark and twisted story grabs you from the first page and keeps you guessing until the very end!
