This is my first Pip Drysdale read and I am now hooked. I read this in one sitting! The Next Girl is a thrilling novel with an unreliable narrator with stocker like tendencies that kept me hooked. I have recommended this book to friends.

Thank you to the publisher for my copy - all opinions are my own.

This book is UNREAL good, when you want something fast paced, highly suspenseful, addictively intense that will leave you breathless and dying to see how it ends.

I was entirely sucked into this book from start to finish, and I had to devour the whole book at once. I literally couldn't have stopped reading this if I wanted to, as I was way to invested into Billie's life, the situation she was in, and her very very unique style of getting revenge.

Absolutely no spoilers for this one - go in ENTIRELY blind, and enjoy the ride. All you need to know is that you need this book if you love a good suspense thriller, a good character drama and a healthy dose of whodunnit.

4.5

I LOVED The Next Girl so much! This one is the epitome of a fast paced page turner thriller and I would recommend this to anybody that enjoys thrillers in general! That’s how much I loved this.

Billie makes as lot of stupid decisions, the kind where you want to yell at her in the pages and say “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! STOP!” Or “GET OUT NOW!!” Which can be frustrating but oh-so compelling and entertaining.

Definitely pick this one up!

This was a page turner for me and super fast paced! I loved the writing style and you couldn't help but want Billie to come out unscathed. I also really enjoyed the musical references throughout the book and though everything that happened was "almost too much", the author did a great job of wrapping everything up with a nice little bow at the end..

I once applied for a job where I would have been scouring social media to help with investigations etc. This makes me kinda glad I didn't get it ;)

This was my first Pip Drysdale book, but I'll definitely be checking out others!

Thank you to Netgalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for the ARC of this book

Thanks @netgalley for read number 43 of 2023. I wanted to love this book, and it is very fast paced, but it just kept becoming more and more unbelievable. I had to suspend disbelief just a little too much. In the end, I kind of skimmed it. I’m not going to rate this book because I think it just didn’t interest me, but it could very well be a good fit for you. The subject matter was also disturbing at times, which I think made it a more challenging read for me. If you read this book, let me know what you think. Just because a book doesn’t work for me, doesn’t mean that it won’t be a great one for you.

Billie is a paralegal, living a perfectly normal life in New York City. But Billie also has a secret- she knows how to get revenge. For years, Billie has used her legal connections to go after the people who have done wrong, and gotten away with it. From abusers, to drunk drivers, to Internet trollers, Billie finds them, stalks them and does what she can to ruin their lives. When Billie gets fired after being blamed for losing a high profile case, she has nothing to lose. She knows that she is innocent, and she will go after the guilty. Whatever the cost.
Pip Drysdale’s, “The Next Girl” has some definite “Flight Attendant” vibes, mixed with vigilante justice and Internet sleuthing. Right from the beginning nothing and no one is what they seem, and Drysdale takes you down the rabbit hole with Billie, as she searches for answers.
If nothing else, “Girl” will give you lots of tips on how to cyber stalk people, including how to get into their email and social accounts, which is not only informative but it also made me want to delete all of my electronic information and go hole up somewhere in the wilderness. Billie seems more knowledgeable in this area than the average person, but I was able to gain some knowledge during her travails, which is always a plus for me.
The story is told by Billie, but she narrates it as if she is telling a story, addressing the reader on many occasions. Billie’s life is told to us through Billie’s eyes, making readers root for her even more. The ending is expected but enjoyable, and Drydale ties up all of her loose ends, leaving behind an immense satisfaction when the final page is turned.
There are a lot of characters in this novel, and many of them play a direct part in Billie’s story, so it can be a bit complicated if you aren’t paying attention. But with Drysdale’s writing, that won’t be a problem as “Girl” will grab you from page one.

Thanks to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for the opportunity to read The Next Girl. I really enjoyed this book. I have never read anything by this author before, and the story synopsis interested me. I was pulled in right away by the author's writing style. It was written in a way that made it feel like the main character (Billie) was talking directly to the reader. The mystery plot involved Billie and her "vigilante" type justice for people she's seen as having been wronged and have no voice. She is a complicated character that you get the sense has a lot of layers due to the loss of her mother (her death is the catalyst for Billie's future actions). Billie is a great character that I found relatable and I loved her cleverness. There were some great twists in this book and some great "misdirection" by the author. In the end, things were resolved in a satisfying way. Even though the end was a bit "tidy" in terms of resolutions for Billie, it was satisfying. It felt like the right way to end things and in my opinion, she deserved the outcome she got. I feel like the author left things in a good place too. The story really left the potential for a second book with this character. I'm not sure if that's the author's intention, but I'd definitely read a second book! The extra bit at the very end was unexpected, but satisfying to see it unfold. I'd give this one 4.5 stars, but it doesn't give the option. I will definitely be checking out this author's other work now.

“A bad day at work. A drunken night. A rogue Instagram follow. That’s all it takes to ruin a life … “

I haven’t read anything by Pip Drysdale before but after finishing The Next Girl that will definitely change.

I was drawn right in and didn’t want to put it down. I don’t want to say much more because of spoilers but I recommend picking this one up if you want a fast paced read with its of twists and turns.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada for this advanced copy!

Well this was a surprise! With most thrillers I can usually predict a few scenarios and culprits and not be too far from the mark, but this one !!!! The twists to the story just kept coming, about midway through I just let go and let the plot take me where it wanted to go. I couldn't anticipate anything, which makes this book quite special. I will most definitely be trying Pop Drysdale's other novels.

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this for an honest review.

Well what can I say about this book except I absolutely loved it! The characters were amazing, and emotionally charged and the plot was completely different than anything I’m used to reading. This thriller had me running through the pages at lightening speed because I couldn’t get enough. The plot of this one hooked me right from the first chapter and it was almost like the whole world vanished as I was taking in by the wonderful story that Pip Drysdale created. This story is all about our main character Billie who recently lost her job as a paralegal due to no fault of her own and entirely the fault of a lying, psychopathic, co-worker. She had been working the case of the century however now due to one little misstep the abusive man who preys on drunk girls is walking free and there is nothing that she can do about it. This is when she decides to take matters into her own hands and the story really takes off. This book was very refreshing and took a very dark subject but made it so fascinating and horrifying that you were unable to put it down. Every path that our main character took I was appalled by rooting for the best for her at the same time. This book was so perfectly written that it was almost like a movie playing as I read it. I loved our main character and as she got herself deeper into the mess you were left wondering how she could possibly get herself out unscathed. After how much I loved this story I can’t wait to check out all of Pip Granger’s other works because an amazing mind like that doesn’t just stop at one masterpieces. Great read and I’m so glad that I was granted the opportunity to check it out.

Billie should’ve left it alone but she didn’t….. Dr Sam Granger was a powerful man with dark secrets. Now, she thinks that she’s being framed.
The Next Girl was a page turner, quick, two day read for me.
Thank You to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster Canada, and Pip Drysdale for the opportunity to read this ARC.

I loved loved LOVED this book. After reading Sunday Girl, I was very excited to have the chance to read The Next Girl, which on a lot of levels, is an extension of Sunday Girl.

I love a gritty tough heroine and a good female revenge story. The storyline was incredibly fresh and fun to read.

Hopefully one day, there will be Tuesday Girl, Wednesday Girl, etc.

This was so much more fun than I expected! Billie is having the worst week, losing a case she worked on as a paralegal then losing her job while the smug defendant walks away without a care. Things get worse when she wakes up in a strange apartment on Coney Island with no recollection of how she got there, and minus one shoe.
Billie makes bad choices, but Drysdale does an amazing job of making her decisions seem inevitable. Things unroll the way they have to, even as the reader is screaming at her to do the opposite.
This is a book that works best the less you know going in, and I found myself pleasantly surprised at several points. The ending was satisfying for the plot and the characters. I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.

Billie has a bit of an addiction. She is an addict of plotting justice for other women who are steamrolled by the justice system. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel. The first-person point of view worked well, keeping us on the inside of her clandestine planning and action. Very fun! 4.5 out of 5.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for an advanced electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Billie knows that the judicial system doesn't always bring people the justice they deserve, so she wants to make sure they get what's coming to them by exposing who they really are. It can't be wrong if the people are bad and she's just bringing it to light... right? That is, until things go too far. In the fight to put evil behind bars, where is the line drawn between protecting others and becoming the bad guy?

This book is lots of yelling at the main character about her choices and wondering how it's all going to turn out, with a few twists blended in. I felt like I had to suspend a little bit of belief towards the end, but it was a solid 4.5 stars for me. Definitely recommend!

I hate the cover, but I loved this book.

This wasn't a typical thriller that I review as being spooky and thrilling...it was so well written, so compelling. The characters were well fleshed out and I love nothing more than a good female revenge story.

I would honestly remarket this at litfic, change the cover and buy a copy for everyone I know.

Thank you to the publisher for the arc.

I really loved reading this book. Without giving too much awsay, Billie is an incredibly likeable character with a dark and twisty side. The twist was definitely unexpected, and once I began reading I could not stop. I also enjoyed the romance subplot and definitely would have appreciated a little more of their love story! The ending was great and has me hoping for a sequel! I need to know what path Billie takes!

I L.O.V.E.D. this book!!!!! It hooked me right from the start and I couldn't put it down! I read it in one day.

This book would be amazing as a limited series. I really hope that happens. *fingers crossed*

This was my first time reading a book by Pip Drysdale but you can bet I'm going to check out her other books.

On a shallow note -- the cover we've got here in Canada (and I'm assuming the US but don't know for sure) is aces and matches the story (it's the one with the yellow title over a distorted face). It's gritty and works really well.
The other cover, w/ the NYC skyline and Billie's face, makes it look like a romance novel.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Simon & Schuster Canada through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you, Simon & Schuster Canada!
