For romance readers, Jane Austen is often a classic favorite. Maddy is no different and has turned her love of Austen stories into a popular agony aunt column that she is thrilled to write daily. Too bad her column was seen as irrelevant to her boss, even if everyone else loved it. But I loved that this set her on the path for a better life and career. Plus she had a perfect meet-hate with a handsome author then inherited a home she didn’t know she needed. All this serves to bring her to the English countryside and discover what’s most important in life - actually living it. And live, she does, with a delightful town full of new friends, a decades long mystery to solve and a budding romance with the aforementioned handsome author. The snarky banter among the characters and the wonderful plot made for a perfect afternoon of reading for me. I definitely recommend fan of Jane Austen grab a copy of this cozy romance read.

I read a beautiful story that had a gentle feel to it. However, the clever and observant writing style made it stand out from the ordinary. The community of characters in the story was lovely, and they made me smile throughout the entire reading experience. I especially enjoyed the romantic relationship that developed between Maddie and Luke. The author has included many subtle references to Jane Austen's writing, which makes it a delightful tribute to her work. Overall, it was an excellent read, and I look forward to reading more books from Linda Corbett.
A gentle and heartwarming romance is like the romantic version of a cosy crime story. It is set in the English countryside and is softer in tone, but still enjoyable and gets its point across. I particularly enjoyed the mystery element that Maddy worked on to discover more about Nigel. With all the supporting cast from the village, it almost felt like being in the middle of a Miss Marple investigation, but without any actual murder.

When Luke and Maddy first meet, they are not friends and are forced into close proximity. Luke is grumpy, while Maddy is full of sunshine, and they even have to share a bed for a night . This romance covers all the classic romantic tropes, and sometimes brings in that cosy crime mystery feel, while always remaining pleasant.

Every time I picked up "What Would Jane Austen Do", I was whisked away on an emotional journey wit this enemies-to-lovers romance!

I love anything related to Jane Austen, and upon hearing about this book, I immediately knew I needed to read it!

(Possible Spoilers!)
Oh my goodness, Mandy and Cameron! Their chemistry jumps right off of the page, as does their witty banter. This book truly has so much in it: love for Jane Austen, an unexpected inheritance, sweet moments, mystery, and so much more!

I love the love of literature throughout this novel!

If you enjoy Contemporary Romance, I highly recommend this book!

Maddie enjoyed her time writing a "Dear Jane" advice column. She enjoyed it until she got fired. (Some people are just a little too sensitive.)

She is offered the chance of a lifetime. She lives in her father's cousin's home for one year and inherits the mansion. What would a girl who was just fired from her job do? Take the deal. Unfortunately, the home comes with a neighbor who Jane has crossed paths with before, Cameron Massey, the crime author. Their ideas of worthwhile writing do not match. Maddie challenges him to write a romance, but it is too easy so he says. Hmmm.. time will tell who is right.

I enjoyed this book. It falls into the trope of "enemies to lovers". From the moment they meet, you can see the potential for sparks. The story is fast-paced and has fantastic characters. I love the small-town vibe of the book. The neighbors are friends and the spirit of cooperation makes this a "feel-good" book. I enjoyed the plot and the characters.

I have not read a Linda Corbett before, but I am very interested in picking one up in the future. The book contains fade-to-black intimacy and one instance of the "f" word.

DNF @ 32%

Thank you, Netgalley and Harper Collins Publishing, for the ARC!

Don’t @ me, but I’m not a Jane Austen girlie. Those are not my reasons for DNF’ing the title.

I’ll be honest again, I started this book and didn’t pick it up for so long that I restarted it months later … only to give up on it again.

I honestly couldn’t connect to the characters although I really wanted to cause I love plots where a character gets a fortune of some sorts from someone’s will thrust upon her … and I wish we got more of that because this read was so boring. Maybe we get some of that later on, but I’ll never know.

Maddy is bequeathed a Manor House, and she’s doubtful and upset? Hmmm…a bit unrealistic from the start..!
I did enjoy this book, even though it was all very predictable, it was a nice read.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing this book for review.

Fun! This reminded me of Beach Read in a good way, with the writing challenge and romance that sparked between Cameron and Maddy! It was a lot of fun to read, with good banter and a lot of swoon. Fans of Jane Austen will also not be disappointed in the multiple references throughout.

If you love Zara Stoneley and Sarah Bennett’s romantic comedies, then make sure to add Linda Corbett’s What Would Jane Austen Do? to the very top of your must-buy list.

When journalist Maddy Shaw is told that her Dear Jane column has been axed, the Jane Austen mega fan realizes that she can no longer afford to live in London. Options aren’t exactly plentiful for Maddy – until she gets a gift from the gods via her late cousin Nigel – the black sheep of the family – who leaves her a charming country home in the Cotswolds. Just when she had begun to despair, this wonderful gift lands in her lap, however, little did Maddy realise that the bucolic idyll she had imagined comes with a catch and an infuriating neighbour who just happens to be the most aggravating – and handsome man – she has ever clapped eyes on.

Cousin Nigel’s will states that for Maddy to get the house, she must become chair of the committee for the local literary festival and she finds herself locking horns with crime writer – and next door neighbour – Cameron Massey. More at home concocting gruesome tales of murder and menace, Cameron scoffs at romance and despises romantic fiction. The crime writer thinks that anybody can write a love story – so Maddy decides to put him to the test. Is he up for the challenge? Or will he realise that he’s bitten off far more than he can chew?

Will romantic fiction bring Maddy and Cameron closer? Is Cameron Maddy’s Mr Darcy? Or will this romance end up having an unhappy ending?

I loved What Would Jane Austen Do! Linda Corbett had me laughing out loud from page one and I was completely and utterly enchanted by this witty, charming and irresistible romantic comedy. An escapist tale that sparkles with humour and warmth, What Would Jane Austen Do? is a delightful tale by Linda Corbett that is simply magical.

It's a truth often acknowledged that when a journalist and Jane Austen fan girl ends up living next door to a cynical but handsome crime writer, romantic sparks will fly!
When Maddy Shaw is told her Dear Jane column has been cancelled she has no choice but to look outside of London's rental market. That is until she's left an idyllic country home by the black sheep of the family, long-not-so-lost Cousin Nigel.
But of course there's a stipulation... and not only is Maddy made chair of the committee for the annual village literary festival, she also has to put up with bestselling crime author -and romance sceptic - Cameron Massey as her new neighbour.
When Maddy challenges Cameron to write romantic fiction, which he claims is so easy to do, sparks fly both on and off the page...
I really enjoyed reading Maddy's story, such a fun, cute romance with a little mystery included.
We have the off-on-the-wrong-foot meeting, then forced-proximity and eventually grumpy x sunshine tropes all linking together to make for a lovely reading experience.
There were some fun characters in the village and even a ghost hunting scene!
I flew through the book, totally begrudging when I'd have to put it down, because, you know ... life!
All in all What Would Jane Austen Do? is a delightful read and one I will revisit in the future! What Would Jane Austen Do? Is out now and I highly recommend it!

I love Austen-themed books, but this one just was not it for me. The pacing was slow, and I did not really like the characters either.

Being a Jane Austen fan this book grabbed my attention. And in the first two chapters I meet a character that could be in an Austen novel and is in a situation like the novels. It's a effortless intriguing read. The pace is swift, not too fast (well except the mystery reveal) but enough not to be boring. I enjoyed the village and it's people just made for a lovely story.
I Love the mystery Maddie tries to uncover about cousin Nigel. Maddie is a likeable character and I'm jealous of her Jane Austen knowledge.

If you're an Austen fan I'm sure you'll enjoy this story with it's occasion homage to her novels. I love the idea of a Jane Austen agony aunt. I'd love to do a read a long with Maddie.
The romantic story could've been written by Jane Austen except without the formalities. I liked the way it went but I didn't always trust luke and it seemed to move quickly.
The end of the mystery didn't interest me as much as the mystery itself and I wondered if the end came too soon but I enjoyed this book. And would recommend it. I'd happily read a sequel.

A brilliant read and one I really enjoyed. The characters are loveable and varied, the plot is one that is engaging and medium paced. I found myself completely drawn into the story and enjoyed the writing style.

Maddy Shaw is a journalist and a Jane Austen fangirl who writes the Dear Jane advice column. When we first meet her, she has learned her column is cancelled & that she’s going to have to find more affordable housing.

Before leaving London, Maddy attends one last interview and meets a famous but moody crime writer who also has a negative opinion about romance novels. During the interview, the two of them passionately debate the subject.

I fell in love with Maddy during that encounter. Her defense of the romance genre was so moving & I agreed with every word she said.

Maddy’s life takes another unexpected turn and it is this turn that drives the plot of the novel. She inherits a huge house in the English countryside from a cousin she never knew. While Maddy would love to sell the house, the will stipulates that she must live in it for twelve months first. Reluctantly, Maddy moves in, having no idea how truly life changing the entire experience will be.

I had such a fun time reading this book! The village where Maddy now lives is full of quirky, literature-loving neighbors committed to carrying on the literary festival that Maddy’s cousin hosted for years and that no one told Maddy she would now have to plan and host. Those same neighbors also help find her a roommate, who of course turns out to be none other than her least favorite grumpy crime writer, whose name is Luke, and his dog, Buster. Needless to say, there are plenty of laughs as Maddy awkwardly tries to navigate both the planning of the festival and how to live peacefully with Luke.

I will also say that this is a slow burn romance. Both characters are so well developed though that I enjoyed getting to know them, and I also enjoyed watching the dynamic between them shift as they got to know one another.

What Would Jane Austen Do? is a fun and heartwarming contemporary story that is sure to delight any Austen fan as well as anyone who loves a good romance!

This book is an enemies to lovers trope, and while I felt the dislike between Maddy and Luke I didn't feel the chemistry between them when they became lovers. I wasn't a fan of Luke in general, I found him spoilt and petulant like a teenager.
What I really loved about this book was the quirky supporting characters and the literary festival that Maddy helped organise.

I really enjoyed this rom com that is a sweet exploration. Mandy Shaw adores Jane Austen but her neighbor has no use for romance or Austen. She’s lost her job and inherited a home from an uncle she never met. Then a bestselling crime writer has to move in for a few months while his home is renovated. They can’t stand each other… or can they?

I loved the banter, the supporting characters, and the sweet unspooling tension. It was a trip to Britain in a book. It wasn't a complex plot or anything twisty. Instead, it was a sweet read at a time that was exactly what I was looking for. I'll definitely try other books by this author.

This book was delightful! I adore all things Jane Austen and just like Maddy will always defend and recommend her books. From the start I was smiling and laughing at the banter between Maddy and Cameron. Such a fun contemporary romance. Four stars

It's a truth often acknowledged that when a journalist and Jane Austen fan girl ends up living next door to a cynical but handsome crime writer, romantic sparks will fly!

This was a cozy, hallmarkesque look at a modern woman who looks to Jane Austen to help her navigate life and love.

It is a little lighter on romance than I expected, but it is a quaint look at how people are not always as they appear on the surface. There is a mystery weaved throughout about a recently deceased cousin, with an infamous family history, who leaves his dilapidated historical estate to a niece he never met. There's also a handsome, but jaded, crime writer and his adorable dog!

💚 Grumpy vs Sunshine
💚 Forced proximity
💚 One bed
💚 Found family

This is a "sweet" romance with mild kissing. Closed door.
