This book is the first I have read by the author.

It tackles some sensitive topics so won’t be for everyone.
I found I got into it straight away it was dark and there were lots of twists and turns.
I really enjoyed it

Welcome to Cobshott, a seemingly perfect suburb outside of London, where appearances mean everything. But beneath the pristine surface lies a web of secrets and lies, waiting to be unraveled. In "The Nail Salon" by Natalie Tambini, we are introduced to DCI Sue Fisher and her team as they delve into the dark underbelly of this interconnected community, following the disappearance of a teenage girl.

If you ever find yourself in or near Cobshott, Surrey, and feel the need for some nail pampering, Melinda's salon is the place to go. However, be cautious when sharing your secrets with Melinda, for her gossip comes at an extra cost. Stick to discussing your manicure preferences unless you're prepared for plumped lips and loose lips.

DCI Sue Fisher, burdened by her own secret, finds herself with a missing person case on her hands. As the investigation unfolds, Sue and her partner Mike are led down unforeseen paths. "The Nail Salon" presents the story through the perspectives of Melinda and Sue, offering different angles to the narrative.

To truly enjoy this novel, be prepared to suspend some disbelief, as there is a lot happening within its pages. Nevertheless, it remains an entertaining read that raises valid points about toxic relationships and the desire for control. The story ventures into dark corners, delivering intense storytelling that reminds us that behind closed doors, even seemingly perfect lives can be hiding secrets and delusions of grandeur.

The book features plenty of twists, some of which are genuinely good. However, I did manage to figure out the big twist before the grand reveal. Fortunately, this didn't spoil the overall enjoyment of the book.

Overall, I'm glad I picked up "The Nail Salon." It kept me glued to the storyline, provided you don't mind a busy plot. Although the novel leans more towards a mystery and detective tale set in a gossiping neighborhood, the gossip itself remains crucial to the storyline. I must give a shout-out to the two likable police officers, as well as the well-portrayed cast of characters.

Let's take a moment to appreciate the excellent cover design, which captures the essence of the story.

Please note that the publisher has listed several triggers, so exercise caution if you have specific sensitivities.

I extend my thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins, One More Chapter, for providing an ARC of "The Nail Salon." It's always a pleasure to receive an early copy in exchange for an honest review.

I found The Nail Salon to be a very interesting book. In a world where appearances are everything….you can’t trust anything. Set in a glamorous suburb outside London, everything seems to be perfect until one of them goes missing and it’s down to DCI Sue Fisher to find them. Although Sue is battling her own demons which could impact the case. It’s a book of secrets, lies and deceit. Bored housewives and cheating husbands and perhaps everything isn’t quite so perfect. A great plot with some twists and turns thrown in for good measure. Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK One More Chapter and the author for the chance to review.

The Nail Salon is the first novel in a new series by Natalie Tambini and introduces the reader to Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Sue Fisher from the Metropolitan police in London.
The story begins with Mel Medford, the owner of the local nail salon, introducing us to her clients and of course the local gossip. But once the client has left, we start to side another side to Mel and learn that she eavesdrops on her clients with the intention on interfering in their lives. Not exactly a normal trip to the salon then.
Next we meet DCI Sue Fisher as she introduces us to her investigation into the disappearance of teenager Anna. It's not long before we start to see some disturbing overlaps between Sue's case and Mel's story.
The overall pace is rapid and there are sufficient twists that I really could not guess what was going to happen next. The storyline is certainly dark and TW are required. The number of darker elements did make for difficult reading in certain sections but the storyline was well written and I wanted to know how the novel would end for the characters such as Sue and Mel.
However, I would warn readers that there are multiple TW to be aware of:
Teenage pregnancy, adoption, child abandonment, drug abuse, physical abuse, child grooming domestic violence, suicide, transvestite.

Mel Medford works in a small nail salon in a well to do area in London. Here she gets all the latest gossip from her wealthy clients. With her friendly demeanour her customers happily open up to her. Then a local girl goes missing, and secrets begin to be uncovered. Mel Medford isn’t as she seems.

This was much darker than I was expecting. Covering some really dark themes (CW; child grooming and sexual abuse, domestic violence). It was a little too dark for me to enjoy. Whilst it was objectively well written it just wasn’t for me.

This is a domestic thriller based around a nail salon owner being privy to all kinds of local secrets and local teenager going missing. The storyline has some unusual characters but I often found myself a bit confused over surnames and had to refer back to check which is harder on a kindle.
There are some sensitive topics covered- domestic abuse, online grooming, child sexual abuse in the home and alcoholism. At times this felt rather like an ingredients list rather than these issues adding anything particularly to the plotline.
I found it wandered into confusing territory in the 2nd half so found it hard to keep going with the book.

I thought this was a really good story. It wasn’t what I expected and in fact was better than I was expecting. Quite a quick read with a nice little twist. Recommend ed.

A very dark and twisted British mystery set in busy London that sucks you into the drama. The plot involves a range of abhorrent criminal activities which could be offensive to some readers. It was a great ‘who done it' criminal case filled with suspense.
Melinda has worked hard to escape her sordid upbringing, she’s built her own business, a thriving nail salon. Her clientele are bored, lonely, wealthy women and spoiled teens. I always thought bartenders and hairdressers heard all the juicy gossip, now I know nail techs top the list. She hears about their affairs, loneliness, the extravagant shopping, their entitled kids. The perfect family facades behind those iron gates of their wealthy estates hold some dastardly secrets. Many of Melinda’s clients live in the same area and know one another.
Detective Chief Inspector Sue Fisher is on the case of a young missing teen. Anna is the daughter of one of those elite families. Did she run away, was she kidnapped, is she even still alive? Sue will have to sift through almost too many affairs to keep up with, blackmail, deception, hidden assets and agendas, to find Anna. The psychological twists in the plot had me altering my theories at every new revelation. The protagonist was certainly an unexpected twist. There are some inherently awful people and extremely unlikable characters that comprise the plot. The author describes them well.
I was unfamiliar with this author or her impressive résumé, she’s now on my one to watch list. This digital advance reader copy of “The Nail Salon” by Natalie Tambini, One More Chapter was provided to me by NetGalley. This is quite the juicy book....its very dark and our main character is quite the complex protagonist. I don't want to give too much away but all is not what it seems. Th ere is alot of fakery going on and people pretending to be something they are not. As a parent, parts of it terrified me but ts a great read. Very thought provoking!

The Nail Salon, hmmm well, that is definitely one of my favorite places, so reading a book about a nail salon would be cool, right?

SUPER COOL

Now let's throw in some cheating husbands, women scorned and bratty teenagers, and we have ourselves a best seller.

This book is a delicious bowl of drama served hot! I loved every last word of it.

There was no shortage of secrets, lies and deceit. This book played out like a lifetime movie. The characters were straight up evil and deceitful . Natalie Tambini, did an incredible job depicting an every day place like a nail salon and exposing all of the secrets behind the storefront.

The Nail Salon is due out July 6, 2023 and should be on everyone wish list. Don't believe me? Check out this teaser:

In a world where appearances are everything…you can’t trust anything.

In a pristine suburb outside of London everything and everyone is perfect…on the surface. But then one of their own – an innocent teenage girl – goes missing, and DCI Sue Fisher and her team start to investigate the secrets and lies of an interconnected web of bored housewives, cheating husbands, and disaffected teens.

Now, as the veneer of perfection starts to chip away, dark secrets rise to fell the mighty and a community is brought to its knees…

I devoured this book it was such a great read and so addictive it really is one of those that once you pick it up you just can’t put it down.
The story is told mainly from the points of view of two main characters and from the beginning we know who the perpetrator is and I really liked that. There were some surprising twists one of which I definitely hadn’t seen coming and again this was what made the read refreshingly different. I liked the character of DCI Sue Fisher a lot and the inclusion of her home life gave the story an edge. So cheating husbands, missing girls, a real unsavoury lead character and lots of good gossip in the nail salon well what’s not to like …it kept me hooked and and I hope from more in the future from Natalie Tambini.
My thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was not at all the read I expected. I thought it would be full of well to do women gossiping while they got their nails done( and acting badly). That part is true, but it’s really Melanie the salon owner, and DCI Fisher, who alternate chapters and tell two very disturbing tales.
All Melanie wants is for her salon to be successful, well that and also to help young girls who have run away/left home due to unbearable circumstances. But Melanie’s idea of helping someone isn’t exactly shall we say normal. I’m not going to say more because of shark infested spoiler waters, but Melanie is like a light switch. She seems to have only two ways to be: normal or cray cray.
DCI Sue Fisher is investigating the disappearance of a teenager, the daughter of one of Melanie’s clients. But Sue is hiding a secret of her own. One she knows that if her coworkers find out, her career will be over.
Both POV’s are dark, though Melanie’s is much more involved than Sue’s( though her story is heartbreaking too). I read Nordic noir, so it takes a lot for a book to leave me feeling, shall we say, unsettled, but Melanie managed to give me the creeps more than once. This was disturbing quite often and when I thought I knew where it was going, it always took a different path.
I finished this over a week ago and I’m still trying to decide how I feel about how The Nail Salon ended. I suppose that is a good thing since I can definitely say I’m still thinking about the story.

The Nail Salon is a wild ride with more twists and turns than any roller coaster and full of red herrings. It'll hook you from the beginning all the way to the jaw dropping end that will have you rereading parts to figure out how you missed it.

Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollinsUK for the ARC in return for my honest review.

Such a great read, I could not put it down and read it all in one sitting!!! Explosive, suspenseful, with great characters to keep you engaged in the story. Nothing is at it seems and it just kept getting better and better. Didn't see that ending coming. Highly recommend!

A new author for me, thank you netgalley, and a book that did not disappoint.
Fast paced with so many twists that you certainly don't see coming and an ending I didn't predict.

By day, Melanie runs a nail salon with wealthy clients who like to come and spill their worries.
By night she is trying to help teenagers who have run away from home befriending them whilst trying to burry ghosts from her past and be a good 'mother to these troubled individuals.

Anna has run away from home. She is known by some of Melanie's customers and the hint for her return is under way.

This book wraps in many characters all with personal secrets which certainly added many surprises.

A book I would recommend although does contain details of death, child and sexual abuse.
