Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and Kiersten Modglin for this audiobook in exchange for a review.

First off, I've been hearing about Kiersten Modglin alot lately and have many of her books on my TBR. This is the first one I have gotten to and let me tell you- LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

Not only was the narration amazing, but this fast paced thriller had me on my toes. I finished it in one sitting. At no point did I find myself bored or wanting to do anything but listen!

I'm so excited to read/listen to more of Kiersten Modglin's books. She may be one of my new favorite authors!

“A house is only as good as the people inside of it.”

Five authors receive an invitation that seems too good to be true but impossible to pass up. An inclusive week at a beautiful home in the woods, where they will have everything they need to work on their novels. Peace, serenity, companionship of like-minded fellows, and nothing else to focus on. Things are going well until this dream retreat quickly becomes a nightmare.

I read this book as an arc and enjoyed it then, but as an audiobook, it was such a different experience. Carly Robins was the perfect choice to bring this book to life.

I was even further endeared to the characters hearing their words and experiencing their interactions. The story felt even more dramatic, intense, and even more fast-paced.

The audio version of this story was much scarier, and I think I enjoyed listening to this book more than reading it. And for me, that never happens!

Obviously, you cannot go wrong with a KMod title, and her audiobooks are often such beautiful works of art- but differently than the written book.

I love how the narrator brought the story to life, how she gave each character a defined personality, and how the story was told. Even though I knew what had happened, I was on the edge of my seat, absolutely riveted.

I think the dual timelines worked even better in the audio formatting, getting to hear each character tell their story. Carly was absolutely fantastic.

My only note is Carly mispronounced KMod’s last name both times she said it. Which I get I also have a last name that people cannot say. But that grabbed my attention. I think because, for a while, I was also saying Modglin wrong, so now I’m hyper-aware of the proper pronunciation. Not a big deal; it happens.

If anyone is looking for a first-time KMod audiobook, this is absolutely Katy Approved! I loved the length; I was able to listen to the entire book at work, which was nice.

Thank you to dreamscape and netgalley.com for the advance audio copy of this book

This is my first book by the author, and im impressed. This was really fast-paced and well written and had me on the edge of my seat the whole i didn't want to stop listening to the audiobook. The narrator, i believe, was the best pick for this book. I do wish this book had trigger warnings going

⚠️ trigger warning: domestic violence, murder.

This is the sixth book I have read by Kiersten Modglin and I might just be one of my favorites by her. This was a quick twisted horror like psychological thriller and I was entertained the whole time. I actually listened to it in one sitting.

I loved the present and past POVs. They were done very well and it kept me guessing what was going to happen.

I love a good escape room type book and this did everything I wanted it to do.

Thanks NetGalley and publisher for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

A Quiet Retreat is a fast paced thriller that will keep you guessing. I love a good mystery that is packed with twists until the end, but in this case there were some aspects of the big reveal (mainly the how and why) that seemed a bit far fetched. Overall, I enjoyed the story and I am interested in reading more of Kiersten Modglin’s work.

Carly Robins did a great job with the narration of the audiobook.

Five mystery writers have been invited to a writing retreat at Black Hills Manor. It sounds like a wonderful chance to escape and dream up new way to kill people – in print of course. But someone at the retreat wants to turn those mysteries into true crime stories, and it becomes a game of kill or be killed. A fun romp sure to be enjoyed by mystery novel readers

I’m a huge fan of Kiersten Modglin- every book I’ve read has been twisty and entertaining. She is a master at throwing out wild storylines and then intertwining them all perfectly by the end. I listened to the audio version and the narrator was great! I cannot wait for her next one!

A Quiet Retreat by Kiersten Modglin was another good audiobook. The narrator was Carly Robins and she was great! I highly recommend this. KM writes an intriguing suspense, mystery thriller AGAIN. I get excited about her novels because I am held captive with the writing and all her characters.
And this was a book writing retreat! What could possibly go wrong? Really really enjoyed this. Thanks Kiersten for writing this.
And thanks Dreamscape Media via NetGalley.

Five writers are invited to Black Hills Manor Writing Retreat for an amazing get away. This will be a chance for all of them to focus on writing their next book and relax. One of them reveals that a murder has taken place in the building they are staying in which puts then all on edge. Now things start disappearing and they all start blaming each other.

I loved the two different points of view and knowing they must all must be connected but couldn't figure out how. That is what I love about Kiersten Modglin books as you will get caught up in the story and never see the surprise ending coming. The narrator in this was perfect keeping it creepy all along the way. Just can't get enough of this author.

Well...I tried. I had sworn off Modglin books about a year ago, after reading 4 of them in a row and feeling like they were all basically the same, with new names, in a new city. So I was excited to dive back in and unfortunately, I find them to all follow the same formula. Twisty, yes, but like the others.

I also am not here for the Colleen Hoover style of character names - nothing is wrong with names that everyone knows how to pronounce!

Sadly this didn't work for me, but if you like her style of writing, you will enjoy this one.

Kiersten Modglin does it again!

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion.

I don’t know how Kiersten Modglin writes so many great books! She’s one of my favourite authors, and this one did not disappoint!

Super quick read, just the right amount of descriptive writing, good mix of likeabke and unlikeable characters.

This book had dual POV of two characters - one in the past and one in the present, it was expertly done and came together well to weave the connection, Modglin did a great job at ensuring most readers won’t figure out the connection until she wants you to.

I typically prefer to read books but have found I love Modglins books as audiobooks - this is my fifth audiobook from her. Carly is a great narrator, is good at changing tones to differentiate between the characters and does not go over the top with her voice acting. Great pacing
