this was a beautifully done debut novel from Anise Vance, it had everything that I was hoping for in this world. I enjoyed the concept overall and thought there were high-stakes that I was invested in. The characters were what I was hoping for and glad I got to go on this journey with them. I'm excited to read more from Anise Vance as I really enjoyed reading this.

"The waste gets dumped straight into the rivers or stays on the island indefinitely. The stench is relentless. Disease is more rampant here than anywhere. But local authorities don’t care about living conditions on an island of Black people. And it goes without saying that the people themselves have neither the power nor the money to successfully push for a real waste disposal system.”
