"The Last Secret of the Secret Annex" is an interesting premise for a book. An exploration of one of the Secret Annex's helpers is something that will attract attention and has lots of possibilities. The story is told from the point of view of Bep Voskuijl's son, Joop. There were points when the story really sucked me in, but overall, the book was mostly background about who Bep was and her background. It doesn't really add anything to the Anne Frank story. It does suggest a possible suspect for who turned in the 8 people hiding in the Annex. It's an interesting theory, but not enough evidence is pressed to get an idea if it's really possible. The storyline was also a bit scattered, going in and out of timelines, and the transitions are not smooth.

A look into the life of one of the protectors of the secret annex that hid Anne Frank and her family during the holocaust.
There is a lot of insight in this book about bep who little has been known about previously. One of the authors is her son, who helped provide much of her backstory as well as information about her life and the life of her fellow protectors after the war.
I recommend this book to readers of ww2 and specifically the Holocaust or the Anne Frank case.

A very interesting alternate view into the story of the Secret Annex and the fate of the Frank family. I found the format and storytelling to be very well lined out and well written. The sensitive information was handled very straightforward and I appreciated the tact with which the story was told. There was no blame or hard feelings toward any individual mentioned and it was a great way to read the story, especially since the temptation to highlight and place people into groups of 'bad' or 'good' would have been very easy to do. Overall, I completely enjoyed this novel and admire the authors bravery in bringing forward all the details of his family good or bad to be judged or critiqued by the world. It surely added more questions than complete answers but I think we will never know all the details and maybe that is the point. Those who lived in that time didn't want the details to define their lives, never realizing that those details shaped the very people they became. This was a wonderful attempt at trying to fill in some of the gaps left behind. 5 stars

wow this was a powerful story and it's sad to think about the terror that was that time-period. It was great to learn about Anne Frank in a new light. It does this in a great job in keeping people engaged and have a bit of a true crime element to it. This was beautifully written and I appreciated the authors sharing their families story.

Part historical investigation, part family memoir, this book tells of other important friendships in Anne Frank's life as well as the ultimate betrayal of the Frank family. Beautifully and respectfully written, I recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading WWII nonfiction. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced e-copy for review.

This book is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I liked reading about the story of Anne Frank from a different viewpoint. Even though this is a difficult historical time period to write about, I thought the writing was entertaining and informative while being respectful. I honestly could not put it down and found myself reading "just one more page" often. I thought the authors did a beautiful job and I highly recommend reading this book especially if you have read The Diary Of Anne Frank. Actually, even if you haven't you need to read this book!

"The last Secret of the Secret Annex" is complex and well written. It presents the difficult choices people had to make and presents and illustrates how trauma can be passed through generations. Fans of Anne Frank will no doubt want to read this. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
