Carol can do no wrong! She is the master of the detective reads and being back in Kate’s world was like coming home.
I really enjoy how Kate’s backstory is interwoven in the main story but you do need to have read the previous books for this one to make sense.
Another success and I’m off for the next right now!

This is the fourth book in the Detective Kate Young series and I've read them all except for the first one. I have a copy of the 5th book from Netgalley as well that I'll try to get to soon. These books are all written exceptionally well EXCEPT FOR the fact that Kate is constantly hearing voices in her head, first of her dead husband and now also the voice of the missing John Dickson. I dislike this aspect intensely and try to skim any of these "conversations" and believe me they are plentiful. I feel like I'm committed to finish this book and read the next one but then I'm done with this series. This trait was quite noticeable in the second book but not so much in the third so I thought we were done but obviously not.

As I said, the writing is great, the story is good and the books are a pretty quick read so if you can get past the voices in Kate's head and if you don't mind stories about police corruption, I'd recommend this series.

Thank you to Amazon Publishing UK and Thomas & Mercer via Netgalley for providing this copy of the book. All opinions expressed are my own.

This was requested when I first found out about NetGalley and I had requested so many ARCs that I could not get to all of them before they were archived. I really wanted to get to this one, as it seemed interesting. If I can find this somewhere for a reasonable price, I will try to get it! I am giving this book three stars, as I don't want to give it a good or bad rating, since I did not get to it.

Fourth in this series featuring DI Kate Young. Complex thriller dealing with police corruption amongst other things. Strong slightly wayward main character.

I've enjoyed this series so far, but I just couldn't get into this new instalment. The voices in Kate's head were too much for me, and too often. I wasn't able to get into this the way I would've liked, so I chose to put it down and not continue. I'm disappointed I had to do so. I hope others like this book, just unfortunately not for me right now.

This is the fourth book in the series featuring Detective Kate Young. This is a great series of books and would definitely be enjoyed more by reading the other three books, Kate is a very troubled police officer and is investigating ongoing police corruption and human trafficking, Kate’s husband was murdered and since then she has struggled with her mental health. He was a journalist and was also investigating the police corruption and Kate finds herself guided by hearing his voice but all this has changed with the killing of her boss and nemesis John Dickson. She accidentally shot him but then arranged for the disposal of his body. When he appears to be missing Kate finds herself in charge of the investigation. She then has to make sure that there is no evidence that will lead back to her. Kate is also trying to bring the people traffickers to justice but does not know who she can trust as all she can now hear in her head is the voice of John Dickson mocking her. This book had me completely hooked and read it in two sittings. It also ended on a cliffhanger so I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas and Mercer for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is the second book in the series that I have had the pleasure of reading. Knowing something of the backstory I found this one easier to get into and therefore more enjoyable. The ongoing storylines of police corruption and
human trafficking are further developed and in some way brought to conclusions although there will I feel be much more to come in future books. I am warming to the main character , DI Kate Young, and her team and look forward to reading more in this improving series.

*4.5 Stars*

A very interesting read and characters. Kate shouldn't have kept quiet about some things and not keeping her team up to date with certain things was a bit of a mistake. Some things turn out ok but some didn't. Interesting ending. Would recommend.

A Truth for a Truth is the fourth in Carol Wyer's series featuring Detective Kate Young. In this cracking instalment, Kate is still traumatised from the shock of her husband's murder.

I really enjoyed reading A Truth for a Truth and couldn't put it down! With its many twists, I was desperate to reach the end. Set in Staffordshire, England, Kate is a fascinating character; she is clearly ambitious though her mental health has taken a beating. Carol Wyer has cast all of her characters well and they all have something brilliant to contribute to the story. The plot was enthralling and as the story progressed the tension levels rose proportionately and I was kept guessing till the exemplary ending. All in all, A Truth for a Truth really packed a punch. An intense, wickedly good read that I highly recommend.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Thomas & Mercer via NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

But whose truth will eventually be the truth?

Carol Wyer moves us into the 4th edition of her Detective Kate Young Series. There's been some giant leaps since the first novel. Although this can be read as a standalone, it's best to at least read the first book to get your bearings and the complete background on Kate. She's a tightly wound character.

D.I. Kate Young has been mourning the death of her husband for some time. But now, she knows exactly who is behind it all. She's been trailing Superintendant John Dickson and his long line of corruption. Proof comes late in the game especially when there's a murder to be had. And we know all about it from the first chapters. Hiding the event will certainly be a challenge.

Kate knows that sex trafficking has been going on at a gentlemen's club in the city and the sex workers were all underage. One of them, Stanka, gives Kate some insight into the goings-on. Just to prove it and connect it to the big dogs will be her focus. While it won't bring back her husband, it will out those from continuing their sordid games.

A Truth For A Truth still features a solid female lead character in the likes of Kate. Wyer spills her emotions on the pages while Kate is desperately trying to keep her stuff together. She's the only one who can bring this to the light it deserves. On the whole, this one tends to be a slow mover in spots. Being the 4th book, there's been a lot of territory already covered. And at the same time, Carol Wyer's writing pulls us into waiting for #5 with open arms.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review. My thanks to Thomas & Mercer Publishers and to Carol Wyer for the opportunity.

A Truth for a Truth is the fourth in a series of excellent police procedurals from Carol Wyer, all starring Detective Kate Young.
Confession time, I haven't read all of the previous series so there may have been some elements of the story that I didn't pick up (other reviewers seem to suggest that it is best to read the series in order for full effect) but I really enjoyed this instalment nonetheless.

Detective Kate Young is a maverick troubled member of the police team, and when an early revelation in Book 4 leads to her accidentally killing another senior police officer, things don't get any easier for her. She has to hide her crime from others but is understandably conflicted and confused about what has happened. She's also trying to hide her crime as well as shedding light on the other police officer's misdemeanours. As you can tell, its a fast paced story; the action takes place in a short space of time with a great cast of characters, and lots of back and forth with revelations and snippets of truth coming out all over the place.

Well worth a read but start at the beginning of the series!

Another fantastic book. Book 4 of the Detective Kate Young series. This is a real thriller as Kate has moved to the side of what she is normally solving. Leading a team knowing and hiding the culprit. A fast paced, tense read. Can't wait for Book 5.

I so enjoyed this book. It had me hooked, and the flow and cadence had me constantly thinking of an ITV police show. While having never read any of the other books in the series didn't deter from my experience, it may have heightened it if I was familiar with the world.

What can I say?? Any book by Carol Wyer is going to be a hit in my opinion, and this is no exception.

DI Kate Young is a flawed character who is full of heart and humility. I think she's been dealt a shit hand in life, and struggles to figure out her path. Traumas and dramas, untrustworthy men, and unstable mental health make her slightly difficult to bond with sometimes. But still, I care a lot about her wellbeing.

This installment of her series is really compelling, and an interesting take on a "who dunnit". More of a "who will they THINK dunnit"! I loved that!

You need to read it, like, now! Trust me. Just read it.
