I read this adorable book with my three year old soon. He laughed so hard, especially when Trevor pooped Easter eggs. He loves dragons, so this book is an instant hit. The text is engaging and the illustrations are colorful and fun. Perfect book for any young kiddo!

Thank you to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group, and Carys Bexington for this ARC!

The Hot Cross Bunny was a super cute story, with the main characters, Steve and Nugget, trying to make a chocolate egg for their Easter egg hunt. When Steve is unsuccessful, he sets out to make a chocolate egg with his own ingredients.

I absolutely loved the rhyming and it totally reminded me of The Grinch. My 5 year old twins couldn't stop laughing. They were able to understand the story and found it just as enjoyable as I did.

I would absolutely recommend this book to others! It's a cute and creative Easter read!

This was very cute. My daughter loves bunnies and she said "There were so many bunnies!" I really like all the egg and hop puns, and the illustrations were really fun. We will definitely read this one again for Easter!

Oh em gee, this book! This is a wild ride even for those who have plenty of imagination! A cross bunny Steve – who wants a huuuge chocolate egg for easter – gets an unexpected surprise dragon who hatches from this easter egg. So. Much. Is. Happening. There. There are so many events squeezed into this tiny book! It is like a rollercoaster of weird things happening! Either way, this is a really nice book. It is fun to read and pull funny faces as you read it, and in the end, the book is all about friendship and connection. The drawings are bright, colorful, and nice.

A cute story about a hot cross bunny determined to grow a great chocolate egg for Easter. However, his egg turns into a dragon unexpectedly! A cute story about friendship.

I read this Easter book with my 5 yr old daughter for the first time tonight and we both loved it. Great rhyming, great story plot, good lessons about working hard and when things don't go as planned you do the right thing.

My daughter especially loved the illustrations. Her direct quote was "the illustrator did amazing." The colors are vivid and very Easter egg like. I loved the play on words with the "hop-full" and "hop-less" and "egg-stravagant" etc.

I will say that the book was flawless and would have been perfect had it not been for the dragon "burping" chocolate poop "eggs from his bum". I don't know if it's really a negative - because my daughter still loved the book - but it wasn't expected and kind of ruined it for me. Maybe it's intended to discourage kids from eating chocolate eggs? Maybe it's a message to kids to not eat too much chocolate or you will have an accident like the dragon did? I'm not entirely sure. Either way, I know poop can be hilarious for many kids in this intended age group so maybe this book will be right for you. My daughter still rated it a "5" despite the poop eggs, but she did not think it was funny. I will say that the last illustration did make up for it a bit - and showed the kids opening their eggs to find a neat surprise instead of eating their eggs.

This book was wild! The story follows an easter bunny named Steve as he prepares for an easter egg contest. He puts a bunch of random items into a pot and out of it grows...a dragon. Steve must chase down the dragon as it gets up to mischief and eats all the children of the world's chocolate.

From a logical perspective, this book makes very little sense. But, I think kids will love it for just that! There is a dragon who poops chocolate and an easter bunny chasing him around. It sounds just like the kind of plot a child would make up, which is so entertaining!

This book is written in couplets. It has good story development, going from problem to solution. I found it to be a very enjoyable story.

This was pretty cute until we got to the poop eggs... and then we were grossed out! Overall, a really great story lost on gross humor. My kids don't need any help coming up with gross things to talk and think about.

The Hot Cross Bunny is a clever Easter themed children's book. It has lots of egg puns and I loved the surprise ending. I think kiddos will really enjoy this one!

Oh man what a super cute children’s story and another one I need to nap a physical copy of come March 2023!
My daughter and I loooved this one! The rhymes, the story, and the beautiful illustrations were top notch. Seriously the rhymes were so good and catchy. I see this being a huge hit with the kids especially cause chocolate POOP makes an appearance!

Makes for the perfect Easter book, and has a nice positive message as well!

Thanks NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the gifted ARC. I thoroughly enjoyed it and all thoughts and feedback are my own and not impacted by receiving an arc.

This story was a great story with excellent illustrations. I enjoyed the story just as much as I enjoyed the illustrations. I truly believe children will love this book!

At first, I really enjoyed this book. The illustrations were cute, the problem was easy for children to understand, and the egg ingredients were silly fun. But the dragon eating all of the other bunnies’ eggs and pooping them out was gross and mean. The cadence of the text reminded me of The Lorax and overall the writing was pretty good.

I really thought this would be great. Adorable even. Because the cover is just too cute, and the illustrations were done pretty well. But the story is strange. Not a really good moral lesson to teach kids: that if you just do whatever you want, you'll be able to win the competition by basically stealing. The dragon they created ate everyone else's eggs and then...pooped them out so Steve could win. It got weird pretty quickly, so I'm not a fan of this one.

This is a wonderful story that got me giggling at various places. At the same time, it also does have an important lesion, so don’t forget to get it for your little ones!

Such an egg-tastic story, from the start to the giggle worthy ending this story has a lesson, a laugh and great illustrations to boot.

This was a bit quirky, but I think it worked! I loved the colorful illustration and the characters were loveable. We need more Easter books like this one that include humor. Everyone needs to laugh!!

It was such a sweet story; I adored Nugget and Bunny's friendship, as well as the message in this book. Trevor the dragon is no less endearing; I laughed when I discovered the ending!

Thank you letting me review this book!
I really enjoyed it's Easter theme as there's always a lot of book centred on Christmas or birthdays but Easter not so much.
The illustrations were very cute and fit with the theme of the book. I also liked the Easter themed word puns throughout, however it might go over the heads of some younger readers.
The only negative I have is about the idea of Steve being a hot 'cross' bunny. He's cross at the start of the book but then shows a range of other emotions from there on. I felt that there should have been other moments where Steve was cross throughout the book to draw it back to the title.
Again, thank you for allowing me to review this book. It was cute, funny and would be the perfect book to read for Easter!

Steve is cross because he can’t get a chocolate egg to grow for Easter. In a last ditch effort to win the Golden Egg Cup, Steve tried his own recipe. To his delight, a giant egg grows that very evening, but it’s not just any egg - it’s a dragon egg. In the ensuing chase, will Steve be able to catch the dragon, protect Easter?

This was a cute Easter story. There is something about the book that is reminiscent of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Littles will love the poop “twist” near the end.
