I really enjoyed this book. It had much of what I hope for and even more than that. The historical elements were believeable and the storylines wove together well. There is even a mystery throughout the book that stirs up many feelings. I didn’t want to put it down.

Hannah Linder knows how to pen richly developed, complex characters with depth. There are lighthearted moments, but the story itself is heavy and laden with sorrow. Nan is a bright light who’s been given a second chance. Heath has had more than his share of difficulties, but made peace with the life he’s living. Then their long-lost Papa returns and my heart was gutted. The siblings overcame abandonment, found joy and new life, and then experienced being reunited with their Papa. It was so sad seeing them striving for his love wanting to honor him simply because he was their Papa. I was thankful for genuine friends to love them, support them, and help them break free. So many themes of love, betrayal, loyalty, forgiveness, and redemption. I loved seeing both Nan and Heath get their happy ending. If you like complex characters with depth, you’ll enjoy this inspirational, historical romance.

An intriguing book with many twists and turns. How sad it was to read about the life that Heath and Nan had endured living on the streets barely surviving as well as escaping from such an abusive temporary home. I’m not sure why it took me a quite a few chapters to get into the story, but about halfway through I was finally drawn into it. It’s pretty hard to put down after that with the mystery and suspense throughout. Also the point of view switched often, but in the end I’m so glad it ended well. I received this e-book for free from Celebrate Lit Tour and the opinions I express are honest and my own.☕︎

After reading Hannah Linder’s debut novel, Beneath His Silence, and absolutely falling in love with it, I was really excited to read When Tomorrow Came. Unfortunately, however, after finishing the book, I am left with mixed feelings.

When I first started it, I was immediately pulled in. Heath and Nan–children at the beginning of the novel–captured my heart and I just needed to know what happened to them. If they would survive on the streets, if Heath would go after Nan when she was taken in by Mr. Stanhope, if Heath would be able to make it on his own, and if they would ever be reunited.

As the two grew up, I was fascinated by the different lives they led, how they matured throughout the years, and the people they eventually became. Both Nan and Heath are sweet and gentle characters, carrying with them the burdens of their past, but both content where they are in life. But all that is upended when their papa comes back into their lives. On the one hand, his return reunites the two siblings, but on the other hand, he makes demands of them that ends up hurting the both of them. The papa that they dreamed would come back is not the same man. He is rough, cruel, and allows part hurts and anger to control him and his actions.

This is the point of the story where Linder lost me. I was underwhelmed by the sibling’s reunification, perhaps because their story was overshadowed by the two main romances in the novel. The more I continued to read, the more I was pulled out of the story. I wanted to see more of their relationship, but instead, the focus turned to Nan and her finding a suitor and Heath and his potential romance. Both of those plotlines fell flat for me and I ended up being annoyed by them. Heath’s felt forced and I did not connect with it whatsoever, and Nan’s ended up just taking me out of the story completely. She wants to find a suitor who pleases her father, but another man loves her, and the way he acted and treated Nan for her romantic decisions made me dislike him.

It wasn’t until the last few chapters of the novel that I connected with the story again. However, the ending did feel somewhat rushed and I was once again left feeling like there should be more.

Hannah Linder is a very talented author, I just felt she tried to do too much in this book and it did not work. This does not dissuade me from reading her future novels, and I look forward to what she has next. I would still highly recommend her work to people who enjoy Regency suspense novels.

I had received a copy of the book as part of the Celebrate Lit Blogging Team and was required to give an honest review.

When Tomorrow Came by Hannah Linder is a must read if you love inspirational historical fiction with some Gothic elements to it.
Sister and brother, Nan and Heath Duncan find themselves barely surviving on the streets of London after their father leaves them and their guardian abuses them. Nan is rescued by a gentleman who along with his family loves and cares for her like their own while Heath is separated from her lives a totally different life. When they finally seem to be healing from their past and flourishing in their new lives their father returns and along with his return comes demands. Along with these demands come secrets and danger that cause the lives that they have built for themselves to unfold and nightmares that could potentially cause one of them, if not both to lose their lives.
I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading books by this author in the future.

I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

Nan and Heath were the only ones that each other had in the world. As young children, they were doing the best they could to survive. They always held out hope for a better tomorrow. When Nan suffers an accident, she is taken in by a family. Heath feels as if she is better off in the stranger’s world than with him in poverty. He sacrifices being with her so she can have a better life. Later in life, they are reunited but so much has changed. Now tomorrow is here, it isn’t quite what the two imagined it would be. How can their tomorrow become a better tomorrow for the two of them?

After reading Hannah Linder’s debut novel, I was intrigued to read her next book to see what story she would wrap me up in next. I loved how all the details of her first novel were interwoven to create a plot line full of creativity and interest. I was anxious to see if she could create another storyline that captured my interest. With high expectations, I opened the book ready for a new adventure. I am very pleased to see that Linder did not disappoint. As a matter of fact, I believe I enjoyed this book even more than the first!

I really appreciate Linder’s way of sharing a story. I was drawn in after a few chapters and had a hard time putting the book down. My favorite character was Nan, who did not seem to let her circumstances change who she was. There were some things that I thought might happen but was surprised by quite a few other things in the story line.

I love how Linder’s titles seem to reflect so much on the story. It is a brief summary of the story in very few words. It gives a deeper meaning to the story in a way. It shows her creativity as an author.

I would definitely recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a positive review.

This was a very interesting story, a little Dickensian, as this story starts out with a very poor brother and sister. They are so poor that the sister, Nan Duncan, is starving, and both she and Heath, the brother, are living in a crate on the streets. They are waiting for their father to return from the sea, and the place where he left them was no good. So they ran away. Then Nan is injured and is taken away by a Mr. Stanhope, and Heath watches as he sees his sister going to a better life. Their parallel stories are told as they grow up in different environments.

The Stanhopes have two children of their own, Gilbert and Charlotte, who grow up with Nan who is now living in their home. The passage of time comes and goes, and then like the title states, tomorrow comes. Now Nan has her long-lost family back, but not without conditions. What is she to do when she is so torn by her long lost dream and her heart?

This story was very good and had themes of love and loyalty, family and treachery, and two romances. I know how I wanted the story to end, I was not disappointed, and it was quite a tale to get there.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

Wow. I enjoyed her debut novel, but Hannah Linder’s second one blew me away. Perhaps it was the sense that sometimes unfulfilled dreams are better that way that spoke to me, or maybe it was the poignant longing of Nan and her brother, Heath. Their strong bond, willing to do whatever was necessary for the good of the other, their reunion later in life, the hurts each endured, the family love they still shared after everything that had happened, it wove together beautifully and painted a vivid story that continues to linger in my mind.

This is not an easy read by any stretch; I recommend it for teens and up due to some difficult thematic elements. Yet the novel is also sprinkled with grace and honest, desperate prayer that flows naturally from the characters, even when placed in unthinkable circumstances. It is real without becoming graphic or crude, speaking deeply to my emotions and causing me to question if my faith could endure such trials so resiliently.

There are many twists and turns in this novel, and readers who enjoy suspense or gothic novels will find much to savor here. But those who love Regency set stories will also appreciate the setting and characters because this novel combines the two into a satisfying read that has me eagerly anticipating her next release.

This is the second book I have reads by Hannah. I really liked the first one so I wanted to read this one. It did not disappoint. This was really a story you can get lost in. She did a great job developing the many characters and the two romances taking place at the same time.

Also, there is a bit if a mystery going on that had me guessing. I normally can figure things out but I didn’t see this one coming.

The romance that Nan is involved in felt so intense to me and there was even a moment I almost cried.

If you enjoy historical romance I am sure you will enjoy this one.

When Tomorrow Came is a wonderful book that you are going to want to savour and yet devour at the same time. I loved it!

Favorite character- Charlotte. She’s cute and sweet and wants to be loved but also has this fun/mischievous side to her. Nan is our main female character and while I did grow to love her I didn’t love how naive she is in much of the book or how she reacts to her father coming back after abandoning the children.

This is a Gothic mystery-type novel and I loved it. It took me back to the times of Dickens and Austen and I have to say it’s a favorite time and place of mine.

Content. I’m not sure that this is one I’d have my teen girls reading. While overall the story line is clean and okay there are a couple of attempted rape scenes and some passionate kisses that borderline what I’m comfortable reading myself let alone my daughters.

I do really enjoy this author I read and enjoyed her first novel and now this one as well. Here’s hoping she has some more Gothic novels coming out!

This was a very emotional yet well written story. I felt sorry for Nan and Heath and the life that they had to live. I loved how selfless Heath was especially in allowing his sister to be taken from him so she could grow up in a better life then he could provide her. It was so hard to see how mean their father was once he came back into their lives. This story kept me engaged through out the whole story because I cared about what happened to these characters. I loved seeing Nan and Heath face their past and be able to have a happy present and future. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to read a story about the resilience of the human spirit. Very well told story.

In When Tomorrow Came, Hannah Linder captivates readers with the lives of siblings Heath and Nan. It’s a heartrending yet rewarding journey through their childhood and adulthood. Their childhoods are tragic and grow even more uncertain when they are separated from each other.

I easily connected with Heath and Nan, though my heart mainly clung to Heath and his tender heart. (Gilbert and Temperance are also unforgettable characters.) I was invested in all of them throughout and rooted for them to find healing, happiness, and contentment.

Some of the abuse these two endured is heartbreaking, but it makes their outcomes even more rewarding. With a powerful message, this redemption story is bound tightly with themes of hope, faith, and forgiveness.

When’s Papa coming back?” “Today or tomorrow.”

Young, starving, street urchin siblings from London in the 1800s are separated and raised quite differently, in When Tomorrow Came by Hannah Linder. Nan is raised in high society, by the Stanhope family, with a special attachment to her older foster brother, Gilbert. Nan’s brother Heath is taken in by a poor, caring rector, who teaches Heath how to show people the love of God. This is a balm to my reader’s heart, as Heath is so abused as a child that he cannot understand or love a God who allows many horrible things to happen on His earth.

When Heath and Nan’s absentee biological father finally reappears, the expected bliss of belonging and unconditional love do not come with him. Instead, a papa they don’t remember, who is given to drink, meanness, lies, and threats has arrived.

I did love Nan and Heath and their devotion to each other, as well as Gilbert and Nan’s relationship of deep sibling love. Loftus and Temperance added much to the story. While I loved Mr. Stanhope for his wisdom and caring ways, he was not as developed as other characters.

Linder paints great, but not pretty, pictures of child poverty, abuse, and the machinations of minds bent on revenge.
The loyalties we see in different relationships are beautiful, but choking for Nan and Heath, in the case of their father.

I found the narratives hard to follow as there is no distinction or separation between which characters are being discussed. I had to go back and re-read many times, when the character discussion switched with no warning to the reader, from one sentence to the next.

While an emotionally-charged novel, I had trouble becoming fully engaged until the last third, when it seemed finally all story seeds sprouted. Action, danger, suspense, mystery, romance- it all seemed to come together here and the novel became unputdownable.

I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit via NetGalley. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Notable Quotables:

“Why couldn’t he just grab her onto his lap, hum the old songs, and be the papa the little girl inside of her still needed?”

“Perhaps it is as important to forgive as to ask for it.

“Love was too powerful to die, so it shriveled and formed into something new. A kind of hatred. A bitterness...”

“There was no changing what already was. There would never be room for tomorrow until Papa let go of every yesterday—and all of its hurt.”

This was my first read by Hannah Linder and I was truly captivated and engaged in the story from the very beginning. This definitely is a Regency era storyline with a gothic feel. Immediately we are introduced to the two main characters Nan and Heath. We meet them as children as they have been abandoned by their father and are left to fend for themselves. While on the streets Nan is rescued by a proper wealthy gentleman and to give her a better life Heath doesn't come for her but rather tries to find his own way with the rector that watched over him while they were in the abusive caregivers home.

They both grow apart but are never forgotten in each other's mind. Nan grows up in this family and becomes a daughter to them. One day their father returns and even though their lives are back to being intertwined everything is all about to change.

This story is told by four different point of views that jump around quite a bit but I definitely didn't have a hard time following it. There are lot of elements happening int this story. There is a range of emotions you will also feel while reading it. There is definitely some mystery I was not expecting at all. I will not divulge as you will have to read to find out for yourself. There is a faith thread to the storyline and although I found it a bit light it was present and there was definitely some swoon worthy moments between Gil and Nan.

Overall I thought this was a good story the author definitely has a gift for writing Gothic-Style Regency. If you enjoy this genre then you will enjoy this story. I can't wait to see what her next book will be!

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Steam Level: 🔥 (kissing only)
Trigger Warning: poverty, death of a loved one, murder, alcoholism

Life hasn't been easy for Nan and Heath Duncan. Their mother passed away in childbirth, their father left for overseas, and they had to escape the abusive madam who was left to care for them. When an accident results in their separation, Nan grows up loved and cared for by the Stanhope family while Heath finds safety working for the church. But when someone from the past comes back into their lives, everything will change. Soon the people they've come to love will be put in danger, and their happy tomorrow will be at risk. Can God see these two through tragedy and give them a happy ending?

This book had me feeling so many emotions! The tragedies Nan and Heath dealt with were heartbreaking, but they both showed so much strength and hope in God. The romances were so sweet, and I really enjoyed watching Nan come to realize the feelings she had for the man she loved. The suspense elements were unexpected but had me hooked! I never felt like the story was predictable, and I was very surprised by one villain in particular. I think Heath was my favorite character. He was so protective of the people he loved, and I really wanted to see him get the happy ending he deserved. I'm so glad I took a chance on this book and can't wait to see what's next from Hannah Linder!

I would never have thought that regency fiction would be a genre I would enjoy but Hannah Linder’s books Beneath His Silence and this new one have changed my point of view. When Tomorrow Came is beautifully written, heart wrenchingly sad, yet beautiful and hopeful.
The story was interesting and complex told from four different points of view. It is full of beautiful characters like Heath whose achingly difficult life is marked by sacrifice and faith, and the whole Stanhope family who live with loving generosity. The story is pleasingly suspenseful with some unexpected twists that kept me turning pages. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Linder.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read for my honest review.

Oh this book was so good!! I think it’s a retelling off of a book but I’m not sure what the name was? There were a lot of similarities. I loved the tropes throughout the book. I can’t decide which couple I liked more. Heath and Temperance were so beautiful and complemented each other so well. His quiet and calm demeanor balanced her bubbly and talkative personality. She struggled with felling like everyone just put up with her but only just and he came along and showed her otherwise. I was smiling so much white them. Gilbert and Nan were so precious and their friendship is what made them falling in love all the sweeter. Watching him struggle to stay friends with her when he loved her so much was heartbreaking and I was just waiting for her to realize that she loved him too. Charlotte was adorable but also a little imp, as everyone likes to call her. As all little sisters should be. I know I was to my brothers. All in all that was a delightful read and the ending had me dying to know what would happen next.
