A regency-era read with a gothic feel, about love, family and sacrifice.

I was looking forward to this one after reading this author's previous book Beneath His Silence, but I found this one be harder to get into initially, as it lingered more on their childhood and took a while to get to the present day where most of the story occurs.

It was a hard read at times because of how bleak things got for them, and Nan was not making the wisest decisions. I liked Heath though, his kindness and self-sacrificing ways, as well as his heart for others. Gil is a solid man, and good friend to Nan, there for her through it all, considerate and kind.

Overall, though it was harder to get into, it did pick up, and I thought that there was a lot going on, and enough intrigue to keep me reading to the end. A romantic read with a gothic touch, I liked the strong faith message shining even in the darkest of times.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Perhaps tomorrow belonged to God.

I must admit I went through a myriad of emotions as I read this book. The author starts out in the most dreadful circumstances, almost impossible for one to believe. Living in a crate, acquiring food in whatever way possible, young Heath Duncan just wants to make sure his little sister, Nan, will be safe. Unexpectedly her living situation changes - but how will her life go on without him?

There are many changes as the years go on, but it seems like papa never returns. Whatever will happen if he finally does? There is intrigue, a life filled with broken promises but also forgiveness, love and a new purpose for living.

An ebook was received through Barbour Publishing, NetGalley and CelebrateLit. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.

I am a new reader to Linder and I was completely blown away by the hauntingly beautiful story she weaved. From the beginning to the end, I was wholeheartedly invested in the story. Linder makes magic with her words as she pulls the reader entirely into the story of siblings Heath and Nan. My heart was aching for their circumstances and I felt like I was there watching every scene unfold. Each character was unique and I felt like I knew them. Heath with his love and loyalty to his sister Nan. Wanting just the best for her even if it hurt him. Nan with her beautiful voice and kind heart. Gil and Temperance, Charlotte and the Stanhopes. Each character seemed so real. There is so much depth and emotion to this story, I am not sure if I have read a book before that tugged so much on my heartstrings and had me longing to fix every problem, even the ones I could not seem to find a way to fix them. Linder keeps the reader on the line, pulling and tugging them along as she creates an entire world of love and heartbreak that you become a part of. There is this huge twist that blindsided me and I am still reeling from it. Linder packs an emotional and heartrending punch with this novel. I highly recommend When Tomorrow Came to any fan of Historical Christian romance! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

When Tomorrow Came is a beautifully written story by Hannah Linder. This story will draw you in within the first few pages. The author has set her story in England in the early 1800's. Nan and Heath Duncan, siblings abandoned by their papa and abused by their guardian - they have been living on the streets and have been doing all means necessary to make sure their stomachs are full. Nan asks Heath every day when their father will return for them, and every day Heath tells her "Tomorrow". We get the siblings back story in the beginning of the book - leading to where the story picks up.

Nan settles into her life with her adopted siblings and seems to be thriving. However the siblings are reunited when their father comes back and tries to push Nan on a suitor that wants to marry her. Her adopted brother also has feelings for her and is not sure that he can hide them. There is also a bit of mystery and suspense woven into the story. The story is told from multiple POV but once you get to know the characters it is not hard to follow.

This book does deal with abuse and an attempted r***. The author handles it with grace. The writing flows off the pages. Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

When Tomorrow Came is such an amazing novel through and through. The story and characters were perfection and had me turning page after page.

This is definitely a book that makes you feel varying emotions and not one with lighthearted humor. This is one that makes you think about life, relationships and truly enjoying today.

I loved the journey of each character but especially dear Heath and Nan. The love from the siblings and the strength to overcome really had me cheering for them. Though they did have to walk through darkness to reach light I was so in awe to be on the journey with them.

No language, faith based, swoony kisses and everything you want in a gothic style regency.

An intriguing, thought provoking, emotional story of trauma, childhood, growing up, parental expectations, finding your own path, siblings, abandonment, found family, abuse, friends to lovers, and sacrifice. Though this story had me several times on the verge of tears, it also had me engrossed into the lives of the characters desperately wanting to know the outcome of their future. I couldn't have guessed some of the twists and turns but it kept the story engaging.

I absolutely loved Hannah Linder’s first novel, so I was really excited to read this one. When Tomorrow Came had a completely different style, so I don’t think I was prepared to appreciate it as much as I could have been.

The overall story was interesting and once I got halfway through the book I was fully invested and ready to find out what happened. She definitely was able to convey the emotions of a traumatic childhood and the resulting life that happens afterwards.

The book has 4 points of view. The eARC was formatted oddly, so I had no warning of when the point of view was switching. That definitely made it confusing to read.

Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC. All opinions are my own.

What an introduction! I could feel the heartbreak and loss. It left me wondering what he was going to do to just move forward. Hannah Linder has written a story that at it's base warns of the dangers of not forgiving. Hanging on to the pain and anger, letting it frow and fester. It lashes out and attacks the lives of others, not just the bearer of that unforgiveness. While at times the love story felt a bit predictable, it developed in wonderful ways the I did not expect at all. Lessons that the characters learned along the way are reminders for my daily life. I so enjoyed the character development. But also the steadfastness of other characters. Throughout it all is the grace of God, answering prayers not even prayed yet. I would read this book again and recommend it to others. Hannah Linder has fast become an author whose books I seek out and mark the release days down. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This was a page turner. I couldn't quit reading. It was edge-of-the seat suspense and deep heartfelt romance all in one. Some of it was hard to read - tear invoking at the hardships Heath and Nan were forced to endure. That is the same reason their ending was so blissfully satisfying. Temperance was my favorite character. The author developed her charming personality so well. Heroes I loved, Villains I loved to hate. Sweet romance and deep faith. I loved it all. Read "When Tomorrow Never Comes" You will not regret it.

More from Hannah
Love interests me. Not just in the romantic sense, but in every sense, because love is the driving emotion behind so much of what we do. It’s the heartbeat of everything. What do we have but love? Yet isn’t it the very essence of our greatest pain?

Sometimes it doesn’t make sense. Sometimes love has no reason. Like a tumultuous wind or a wet branch that sways in different directions, love is often petulant and aimless and powerful. But sometimes it’s soft, like a flower lifting dewy petals to the sunshine. The epitome of everything good, sweet, and true.

What makes love change? What makes two friends who have always been fraternal one day confess romantic affection? How much wrong, how much affliction, does it take for sweet love to sizzle into hatred? Even then, is it really hatred? Or merely the charred crust of the adoration still throbbing beneath? And how strong are the cords of new love? Will they break at every pull and tug, or are they more unfaltering than anyone might think?

Maybe those are silly questions. Maybe, like snowflakes, every heart knows a different answer. But if I explored anything in When Tomorrow Came, it was this. I glided through the story and felt love shift from brotherly to intimate, from hopeful to disappointed, from untested to proven, from safe to betrayed.

Just as love is the heartbeat of life, it is also the heartbeat of this story. I hope you will find yourself falling in love with the characters and their journey as much as I did.

My Review:

I was so looking forward to reading this book but I was extremely disappointed overall. It took me literally almost halfway through the book to start enjoying any of it. I would have stopped reading altogether if I had not volunteered to read and review this book through Celebrate Lit.

This is a Christian Regency Romance. It was not believable in general. The characters were hard to get to like except the brother, Heath. I felt the characters were not as fully developed as possible. It was Christian in a light sense. Not at all preachy and barely mentions faith until the last quarter of the book or so.

Another thing, and I'm not sure if it was because this was an ARC copy and will be fixed or not, but there was no way to distinguish when the story took a turn. At one point two people are talking and the very next sentence was a total change in scenery. This was very off-putting.

I have read other books by Hannah Linder and I enjoyed those much more. She's a good author, but this book fell short of her usual style and quality.

Overall I give this a 2 out of 5-star rating.

This was an absolutely wonderful story!! I haven’t read any faith-based novel like this one in awhile! It took me to where every character was and wasn’t. It was as if I was right there with them while everything happened. Main characters are Nan, Gilbert, Temperance, Mr and Mrs. Stanhope, Heath (Nan’s brother) , and Papa (Nan and Heath’s father). This was a beautiful, wonderful story! I can’t recommend it enough!! Hannah Linder is a great writer and she proves it in When Tomorrow Came! I want to thank #NetGalley , the author,Hannah Linder, and the publishers, Barbour Publishing, for the opportunity to read and review #WhenTomorrowCame with my own thoughts and opinions.

This is my first book by the author, which I picked because I saw so many fav writers endorsing it. I found WHEN TOMORROW CAME to be a profound telling, with depth and compassion, of the life of two orphans, one later taken into a loving family, the other left to struggle with a more difficult existence.

Linder's writing is gorgeous, and the finely spun Dickensian tale is lifted by romance and hope, yet dark elements of abuse, attempted rape, and murder made the experience a bit too uncomfortable for me. Still highly recommended for readers who don't mind histfic stories mixed with tragedy and light.

Wow! Get out your tissues on this one. Hannah Linder (a new to me author) has created a book so spellbinding you cannot put it down. With a twist in the plot that is unexpected, the ending is not predictable. And, you wonder 'will tomorrow come'?

I was provided a copy by NetGalley.

Good day, dear readers. After finishing my latest read, I was left pondering the question; " What makes a book a classic?" A classic is defined as an outstanding example of a particular style; something of lasting worth or with a timeless quality."

Hannah Linder is a new author for me. Her writing style is remarkable and is reminiscent of such works by Emily Bronte and Charles Dickens and, for me, felt like delving into one of my favorite classics. Steeped in the gothic, filled with romance, suspense, and murder. When Tomorrow Came is a Victorian tale of longing, complex emotions, bitter disappointment, love, and ultimately, the hope of what tomorrow may bring.

Abandoned by their papa, abused by their guardian, Heath and Nan Duncan are left to the harsh London streets and must fend for themselves. After a fortuitous encounter, Nan is rescued by the wealthy and kind Mr. Stanhope, and is brought to live with his family. At first, Nan is heartbroken at the loss of her brother and still believes her papa will return for her, but as the days turn to weeks and the weeks to years, Nan finds love and comfort in her new found family. Almost a decade passes before their long lost papa returns. He is a broken and destructive man, bringing demands that threaten to destroy the lives they have both built for themselves. Will Nan and Heath find the love and peace they so desperately seek or will tomorrow bring nothing but pain and heartache.

From the very first pages to its shocking conclusion, When Tomorrow Came is an exceptionally written tale. Atmospheric with a pulse-pounding mystery that slowly unravels its secrets, love that is emotional and prolonged, complex characters whose every emotion can be felt by the reader, and a conclusion that will stay with you long after it is read. Hannah Linder is an absolute marvel and has written a beautiful piece of literature with the timeless quality of a classic. If you read one book this year, let it be this one!

3.5 stars rounded up.

Overall I liked this one. I liked the suspense elements towards the end. I wish there was more that happened in the first 2/3 of the book. But I was invested enough in the characters to need to know what happened. Loved Heath. Nan drove me crazy. Liked Gilbert most of the time. Liked that the villain was truly a villain. Definitely grateful there was a HEA.

Content: death, attempted assault, fighting and injury, abuse, death of characters on and off page.
Romance: kisses

Nan and Heath are abandoned by their father and left in the care of an abusive care giver. Both escaped this abuse and the story continues with many characters, both supportive and not so much. There were times I had to reread sections as you read one story of a character and then it abruptly changes to another. Do not let this stop you from reading it though.

There is suspense, adventure and romance and I couldn't put it down. I received a complimentary copy from Barbour Publishing and Net Galley and was under no obligation to post a review.

I loved the mystery and suspense of this book. I’m a romance reader through and through, but I truly appreciate when an author can bring in elements of other genres to enhance the story and give it deeper meaning and a different light.

The writing style was difficult for me to get into at first, but it’s extremely elegant and feels similar to books like Wuthering Heights and Mansfield Park.

This is definitely a great read for lovers of classics and mysteries!

This is such an enjoyable book by an up and coming author! I enjoyed Beneath His Silence but I think I liked this one even more- if you like historical fiction and are looking for an inspirational book, you might enjoy this one! The pacing was a little off to me at times and I struggled to connect with some of the characters, but I can tell she is growing as an author with each book she writes!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Read it for the:
-Heavier plot themes
-Childhood friends to lovers
-He falls first
-Sibling relationships
-Faith themes

Romance/Steam: Sweet, Kissing only
Content Warning: Child abuse, murder, violence, attempted rape
Final Rating: 3 / 5

When Tomorrow Came is a Gothic Regency read that focuses on the lives of two siblings, who separated during childhood and were brought back together by a father thought gone. This story follows 4 points of view, 4 characters with different lives, coming together for an emotional tale.

This was a read that gradually pulled me into the story and kept me invested until the end. There were many aspects that I enjoyed and thought were well done, but a few that I felt did not work for me. Because of this, I was conflicted about my rating.

What I enjoyed the most had to be the male main characters, Heath and Gilbert. Heath was all that was noble and severed as the book's quiet but powerful conscience. I loved that he was gentle but had a deep rage buried underneath due to the abuse he suffered as a child. This was well addressed and added dimension to the character. Gil was the love interest of Nan, a boy who grew up with her and whose feelings turned from friendship to love. His devotion to her and his conflict with expressing his feelings to her was realistic and very well done! I love the angst both of these characters brought to the story. The gothic themes were also enjoyable and the plot itself threw some interesting twists.

However, the sibling relationship-a main theme of the story felt one-sided in many places. I had trouble relating to the female characters of this story, especially Nan. Nan was sweet, but I wondered if she was too sweet as some of her decisions did not make sense to me. I also felt the villains, while evil and set up well, could have met a more climactic end, especially with the suffering they caused in the plot.

While this book left me conflicted and might not have worked for me personally, I will continue to follow this author and her future works.

Heath and Nan are two siblings that were left with a terrible guardian when their father goes to sea. As they are slowly starving to death, they decide to fend for themselves on the streets of London. After Nan is involved in a carriage accident, she gets the chance to live a better life raised by a guardian. Meanwhile Heath is raised by a wonderful Rector who gives him a home and a love for God. When tomorrow comes and their father returns, he reunites the siblings. What should have been a happy occasion turns sour when their father has great expectations for them that do not match their own wants and desires. Will Heath and Nan be able to find their own happily ever after?

I loved Hannah Lindor’s first book, Beneath His Silence, and was greatly looking forward to her new book, When Tomorrow Came. I was not disappointed and greatly enjoyed this book. I really liked the characters. I just loved Heath and the love for his sister. It was heartbreaking at the start of the novel when the two were separated. I also enjoyed how he had a kinder gentler approach to what he wanted to do with life.
I also enjoyed the romance between the two primary couples in this book. I also really enjoyed the mystery and suspense in this novel and it kept me hooked to the end wondering what was going to happen. I loved the theme of sacrifice in this novel.

The only downfall of this book to me is that when the point of view switched around, I didn’t realize it at first until a name was mentioned. It made the story seem slightly disjointed to me. I also didn’t like the near rape of two different characters.

Overall, When Tomorrow Came is a great romantic suspense novel and I highly recommend it!
