This was an interesting read but I found that I was bombarded with so much information that was not relevant to the story. At times it almost felt rushed then stalled. I did finish this book and I did guess the ending. I am sure other readers will enjoy it more just not for me.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Well, I thought I had this book sussed out very early on but I was so wrong!
It was at around 25% that I had a complete “Oh My Days” moment that threw all my theories out of the window! It was also at this moment that I became so intrigued as to where this book was heading.
I can safely say that wasn’t my only gasp outloud moment, and on a couple of occasions, I actually reread what I had already read to make sure I’d read it properly. There’s some very clever twists in the book and something I definitely did not expect at all, and this made me really enjoy this book.
There’s only one tiny criticism for me and it’s that I felt something is repeated maybe a little too much for my liking, but having said that, it does play a huge part in the storyline and it didn’t really spoil anything so therefore does not affect my rating of 5 shiny stars!
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and definitely won’t be my last 🙂

A really absorbing thriller, which leaves you guessing right up to the breathtaking final chapters. You can usually get an inkling as to where the book is going but this time there were surprises all over the place. Celestine is an unusual character, having been, at 5 years old, the reason why it appeared an open and shut case for her 15 year old brother being the murderer of their parents and baby brother. She also has an oddity in that she has no facial recognition ability even for family members, unless there is something different about them, like a tattoo or a broken nose. Never having heard of Prosopagnosia, it makes for an interesting dimension to the book. I did feel the book was a bit slow to start, but as soon as it picked up pace, it made for a really good read.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

THIS BOOK!!!

I really struggled with this book to start with, likely because of a heavy fantasy splurge I've recently had and readjusting to the tone/flow of a thriller but I am SO GLAD I didn't put this book down!!

There were so many plot twists and turns along the way and I loved that the narrator was unreliable because it really got you thinking about who it could be! I definitely had my suspicions a couple of times and I LOVED the way that revelations were revealed to the reader. This book was really clever and I ended up staying up ridiculously late just to finish it. (It's been a LONG time since I've done that!)

Really loved it - 4 Stars! (Purely because I struggled to get into it to start)

This is my first book by this author and it’s certainly been a great introduction! The Red House is an atmospheric, gripping thriller with an unusual premise and some fantastic twists and turns. Yes there were some convenient plot points but no more so than any other novel! Eve is a sympathetic protagonist, a survivor when she was only 5 of an horrific event that killed her parents and her brother. She was found at the scent claiming her teenage brother had committed the murders but recent events mean that she may have got this very wrong…There are some brilliant twists here that I did have an inkling about but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of this page turning crime chiller.

I havent read any books by this author before and really enjoyed this one with all its twists and turns. I did find the face blindness and convenience of a character in a vegetative state a bit too convenient at times, but was able to let this wash over me and enjoy the ride. The sense of place with the Red House in the marshes was well depicted and suitably atmospheric for a thriller like this. I look forward to reading more by Ms Watkins.
Thank you to netgalley and HQ for an advance copy of this book

I've not read this author before but will be in future.
I read this in just a couple of days as every time I was going to put it down, there would be another twist I wanted to read on.
There are so many twists and turns in this book, it really kept me guessing.

I very much enjoyed this twisty thriller. The opening was a bit clunky and there was some considerable repetition about the main protagonist's face blindness but it is still a roller coaster of a ride that will keep you guessing right until the end.
The Flowers family, seemingly living a happy life together, were murdered by fifteen year old Joseph Flowers, who then crashed the car he was driving and descended into a coma. His little sister, Celestine, helped identify him as the murderer and has known all her life that her brother took away her happy childhood. New evidence however, comes to light, and gradually Celestine remembers things from her past.
The author cleverly entwines this a computer game that Joseph had been working on, that may or may not help reveal more.
Very clever and careful plotting, with an atmospheric setting in The Red House, an old farm on the marsh, and a slow build up of tension as the truth is revealed.
With thanks to Netgalley and HQ for an arc copy in return for an honest review.

I am really sorry that I just didn't connect with this book. I loved the sound of it, and hopefully it was just me and other readers will enjoy it more.

Clever thriller with a really chilling atmosphere. I especially enjoyed the way the characters were written, so they were (mainly) more than two dimensional. Fabulous final twist. Would recommend.

The description of the house- surrounded by boggy marshland and eerie in its outlook- really added to the atmosphere of the book, where an horrific crime took place, witnessed by a tiny child.
As the story unfolds it becomes apparent that perhaps the child witness was even more unreliable than you may have first thought and the plot thickens as the alleged perpetrator regains some level of consciousness from a decades long coma.
In a desperate bid to clear Josephs name, Eve finds herself fighting for her life as well as for truth and justice and will have you turning pages well into the night to find out what the truth really is.

What a wild ride, this book reads like a rollercoaster. The story twists and turns and carries you along at great velocity. I went into this book thinking that I would work out what was happening, how wrong I was !
A great read.

Haven't read anything by this author before and am intrigued to read more now because I just never saw these twists. We have two timelines and multiple POVs but at no point did I become confused, every 'chapter' is clearly marked. We start in 2002 and the Flowers family have been shot dead - all except 5 year old Celestine and her teenage brother, Joseph, who she identified as the killer. Joseph set the house alight after the murder, crashed his car and now - in present day - is in a vegetative state being cred for by his grandmother, Peggy. In the present day, Celestine is now Eve. She has changed her name, moved away and tried to reinvent herself, has tried to keep under the radar away from the publicity surrounding the case, especially as it is now the 20th anniversary of the murders and public interest is heightened because of the game about the murders, written by Joseph and his friend which is said to have a hidden level which will reveal the truth. Everything that is happening causes Eve to wonder if she got it wrong. Should the police really have taken the word of a traumatised 5 year old?
Is Joseph actually innocent? The Red House where the murders occurred and where her grandmother now lives with Joseph is a really creepy setting and is almost another character. Eve has had a difficult life and you totally understand why she finds it so difficult to trust people which is why, as you are reading, you are trying to decide whether these people who come into her life, Marcus, Nate, Serena, Zack, are they good for her or are they actually going to cause her harm? As a reader, you too find it difficult to work out if any have ulterior motives, particularly when Eve starts making startling discoveries. For me, the part when they are trying to solve the computer game - because I am not a gamer - I did find that a bit laborious, but the beginning was terrific. I loved the character of Eve, her feistiness. I enjoyed the suspense and as for the ending - that was a twist I had not expected. An excellent read.

This was a book that was easy to read and kept me enthralled all the way through. If Joseph did not kill his family who really did. Now half way through when more facts were distributed I did sort of guess some of the truth but I do have to admit that I got it all wrong still, The characters were all so well described throughout, both in features and their actions, the scenery of the marshland was vividly described and gave me the creeps as it was so real.
The ending was in two parts but the final words were so amazing and showed what a great author Roz Watkins is.
This was one of the most moving books that have ever read and I can only say that it is a compulsive read that I would recommend to anyone who likes thrillers or mysteries.

I have enjoyed all the other books by this author and this was no exception. I did find the opening of the novel rather clunky, however, with information about the central character being repeated several times in exactly the same words (telling rather than showing) and much of the plot relying on an unusual (though we're told relatively common) condition of face blindness, which was hammered home at every opportunity. But the pace was good, the characters interesting and the sense of jeopardy maintained to the end. Although elements of the plot were rather contrived and perhaps a little hackneyed, the overall effect was engaging and gripping to the end. An excellent holiday read which kept me hooked throughout.

This is my first book by author Roz Watkins, who has written a series of books previously and this is her first standalone thriller.

The Red House is a dual timeframe novel which tells the story of the Flowers family. Twenty years ago, troubled teenager Joseph Flowers murdered his parents and baby brother and then crashed his car into a tree resulting in a coma. Only his 5 year old sister Eve survived this tragedy and it was her testimony that found Joseph guilty of this horrific crime.

Twenty years later Eve has changed her name, moved away and kept herself out of the public eye despite being part of one of the most famous crimes committed in the UK.

Just before Joseph’s car accident he had created a computer game which thousands of players believe holds the clues as to why he committed this crime, and with the 20th anniversary approaching many gamers are determined to unlock the clues and solve the case.

This is a very atmospheric chilling thriller. The “Red House” where the murders were committed and where Joseph is now cared for by his grandmother is almost a central character itself. Set in the marshes, this creepy, spooky setting adds an extra depth of foreboding.

With multiple characters and differing points of view of what actually happened twenty years ago, the reader is taken on a gripping journey trying to slowly pick apart the truth and who the real killer is.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, there were more than enough twists and turns to keep me glued to the kindle screen and a couple of WTF moments which I really didn’t see coming.

A tense and eerie book, particularly through the main character's perspective. It felt a little slow in places, though. Interesting twist.

Loved, Loved, Loved it!! What a roller coaster of a read. The first 20% I thought this might not be for me but before I knew it I was 80% in and throughly enjoying it. Never read this author before but I will definitely be looking out for more of her work. I will be highly recommending this book.

What a juicy book to get your teeth into, (might be a wrong turn of phrase there).

From page 1 this book has it all, family intrigue, deep dark secrets, and a glimpse into a world of being here but not due to an accident.

This book keeps on giving right to the last page, and what an ending for Eve.

Lives wasted and lies from people whom you have trusted all your life. Is anyone who says they are?

The Red House Roz Watkins 5 star
