Shilling Grange Children's Home had become Clara Newton's life and she loved her children, cared for them consistently while trying to keep them happy and learning about their troubles. Little Peg still didn't talk, Gladys missed her two brothers Trevor and Frank, and Florrie had deep seated trauma which Clara was determined to get to the bottom of. All the while Ivor was there on the sidelines, but when he asked Clara to marry him she froze. She didn't want to lose her children and was sure she wouldn't be allowed to work when she married. It was the 1950s after all...

Attacks on the home were constant - rocks thrown through windows, tomatoes thrown against the house, graffiti on the road in front of the home - Clara spent a lot of time trying to work out who hated them that much. But it was a day she took the children on an outing that changed everything for everyone...

An Orphan's Hope or its new title, The Children Left Behind is the 4th in the Shilling Grange Children's Home series by Lizzie Page and once again, I enjoyed it. It's great to catch up with the orphanage children; some have been adopted, some new children have arrived. And Clara and Ivor are constants so catching up with them was like saying hi to old friends. I would recommend this series be read in order and recommend this title highly.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

You Deserve to Live

Clara has dedicated her life to taking care of the orphans at the orphanage. She struggles with the teenager Florrie and Gladys missing her brothers. Clara tries to help Florrie adjust and help find Glady's brothers.

The orphanage takes its toll in time and effort for Clara. That means that she spends less time with Ivor her boyfriend. He has asked her to marry him , but she told him now is not the right time as she has too many responsibilities to the children at the orphanage.

Especially when strange things start to happen at the orphanage. Who could be doing these deed and will they continue or become worse? Are the children safe? She cannot leave them because she is afraid of what the person committing the acts against the orphanage will get worse.

She somehow has to balance her work with her love life and keep both. She is not sure how to do this and fears she will lose the man she loves.

With the help of her returned father, Ivor and her friends she makes some choices in life that she can live with. She knows she must somehow put the past behind her and move forward.
This was a good book and I enjoyed reading it. I would recommend this book.

Thanks to Lizzie Page for writing another great book about the orphanage, Bookouture for publishing it and NetGalley for providing me with a copy to read and review.

The aftermath of World War II in England 1951.
A beautiful emotional story about loss and love.
The characters are lovely each with their own unique personalities.
The mystery element of someone causing damage to the orphanage is an intriguing aspect to the story. Who would want to hurt them?
I recommend reading this series in order as then you will know more about the backstory of each character. .
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

This was such a heart-breaking and heart warming read in equal measure which I found hard to put down, Florrie missed her father so much she refused to eat, Clara loved the children in her care and put her life on hold to look after them. The trip to the air show was such a heartbreaking story with the loss of Clara's father who she was just getting to know again. It was such a moving story and you couldn't help but love all the children in Clara's care.

In An Orphans Hope, we once again revisit all the wonderful characters that live in the Shilling Grange Orphanage. In this book, we find Clara dealing with several dilemmas. Her sweetheart Ivor has asked her to marry him, but will Clara ever be able to leave " her children" for married life? Clara also comes across several very disturbing attacks on herself and the orphanage. Who could want to hurt any of them? And Clara's long-lost father appears at her door and wants to make amends. How will Clara be able to manage all of these challenging situations?

I love how Lizzie Page has developed these characters over time. They have become so realistic, and their stories are, at times, heartbreaking. But there is such hope through Clara Championing these children and their life at Shilling Grange. Reading the books in this series is like wrapping yourself in a warm, comforting blanket. I never want this series to end. I also love that each book is centred around a real-life historical event. I am constantly looking things up on the internet and learning something new after reading her books. Well done Lizzie!

Please check out all of Lizzie Page's books. I have read several of them and have thoroughly enjoyed each one. I love her writing style, and her stories are always engaging.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Again, I couldn't wait for this fourth novel of the series, and again I loved it! Such heart warming characters, lovely to meet them again (or hearing about those who left!) ! What I particularly live in this series, is the witty writing of the author, and her delightful Clara! All characters feel very real, each with their own strengths and weaknesses as well. Definitely a novel for the heart, with a smile on your face!
I received a complimentary ARC of this novel from NetGalley and I am leaving voluntarily an honest review.

I have loved this latest book, with old and new characters making their own little part of the shilling grange family complete.
If I say anything else I’ll spoil it, but this just keeps getting better and better

Book four, Another uplifting historical novel from the shilling grange children's home, with Clara Newton house mother.
1951 the after math of WW2 they lost everything in the war will they ever find happiness in Lavenham Suffolk.
The father of Phyllis Burnham is searching for her in all the orphanages and her name is not known anywhere.
Clara and Ivor Delaney are still in the dark with a will they or wont they romance, they never get any chances to spend time alone even though he is only across the road in his workshop.
And time will tell for this couple.
Dear Peg Church Gladys Gluck and Florrie Macdonald are the other children left for Clara to take care of as this book takes us through to a few new arrivals.
Then things start to happen awful things to get Clara to give up her Job but who is behind it all?
I love this series, that grabs your heart and gives you both laughter and tears, a dedicated house mother that brings joy and love to these children and trying to get them into new homes with a new family is never easy. Dear Peg is still my favourite character that I could just wrap up in cotton wool and take her home with me who becomes a good scholar with her 10/10 spellings.
The joy of this book makes this series grow better and better right through and you will need tissues once again for the very end chapter that brings us two surprises. Like Peg I'm scoring this book a big five stars 10/10.

Love catching up with Clara the house mother of shil!ing grange and of course the lovely residents who she takes care of, Clara is of course torn between her love for the children and trying to give them a better life and her love for ivor and is trying to find a way to have both, with some pranks at the home and trying to solve who is behind it Clara imagines it could be any of the people close to her and suspects all at some point, trying to deal with her children and finding parents of them and dealing with the pranks takes its to!!, Can she find out who is behind it all while juggling her day to day life as well
Can't believe we only have one book left in this amazing series, can't wait to read the last instalment but will be a sad read as well, will peg finally find her voice and what does the future hold for Clara and the rest of the lovely characters
Ten out of ten as usual

I always look forward to the next book in this series. The books never disappoint me. This book was just as good as the previous books. I recommend reading them in series order but I think she gives enough background information to be able to understand what is going on. Can't wait for the 5th and final book!

I received a copy of "An Orphan"s Hope {Shilling Grange Children's Home 4} from Net Galley. This is the first time I read the book from this series. I have not read the first of the three books. I would give this an almost four. It is seen mostly though the eyes of Clara. At the beginning of the book Ivor wants to marry her and she is not ready. She needs time still in grief over the death of her former fiance MIchael. She is also devoted to the Children's home and helping the orphans. The Shilling home brings has a revolving door of children coming to live there.
There is also a mystery happening at the children's home. Someone is causing damage to the property and things have been stolen. There is also a tragedy happening in the book as well. I liked this book and tried to get an idea of the other books since different characters from those books are mentioned. A pretty good read.

Wow! Book 4 was as exciting as the 1st. The references to historical events helped bring an element of realism to the story.
Will the children get what they are hoping for? And Clara is so wrapped up in the children that she can’t see the love that has been put aside especially for her. More to the point after feeling unloved as a child she really doesn’t expect to be loved in return!
It was great to hear about some of the children who have moved on and that Peter actually thought of Clara as mum.
then the new ones who have joined the orphanage. I loved Frank, he really knows how to think things through.
Look forward to Lizzie’s next book.
