As the second book in the series, this entry does a decent enough job of carrying the reader into Daisy's current moves. Yet, as a former fan of baking competition shows, I found that the mystery did not really take advantage of the setting. I was also less enthused about Daisy's journey in this book as I expected to hear more about her tentative romances. I hope the next book picks up on this.

A Good Day To Pie is book 2 in the Pies Before Guys Mystery series. I love mysteries and this book was no exception. This book had my attention from the very beginning. I love that the mystery revolved around a baking competition, it reminded me of The Great British Baking Show. I really like Daisy and her dog. I'm getting excited about the next book that comes out in 2024.

Baking completion, murder, and deliciousness - Sign me up!

To start, I really regret not reading the first book in the series, only because there are a few details that I think I was missing. Nonetheless, "A Good Day to Pie" was amazing! I find with well written mysteries, the fun part is trying to solve it before the protagonist does and thats what I did while listening to this book.

The book follows Daisy, a really good baker who adds a secrete ingredient to her pies which allows her to influence people’s emotions. The secrete ingredient- magic of course! Fun fact, Daisy also uses her pies to kill people. So that being said, the serial killer is trying to figure out who the actual murder is. The setting of "A Good Day to Pie" is non a baking show where the readers get to see behind the scenes of what actually happens on these T.V. shows. Things get a little wild when a competitor ends up dead, a Daisy wasn't the one to off them.

The book was really interesting and I really want to see how the series plays out. There were a few charters that I couldn't stand but I guess that might have been the point. Overall a good read, and I highly recommend everyone pick this up. Just make sure you have a snack while you read this book - thank me later!

I love this series, but I do hope book 3 returns to focusing on Pies Before Guys. I thought the bake-off TV show was a fun storyline, but I missed the magic that was more present in book 1. I felt like this was a fun way to spend a few hours and we got to know the main character a little better. I hope she will keep some of her newest friends from the baking competition in future books.

I don't want to give anything away, but Daisy sure baked some deliciously different pies. At first I thought I misunderstood the summary, but no, it was right on!! Loved the characters and the story!

This book was what I would categorize as a cozy mystery. The storyline was good but the narration was so/so. It wasn't the worst narration but definitely not my favorite.

I liked the setting too and the style of the author.

I want to like this series but there is something that bugs me about it. I’m not sure if it’s the narrator or the writing. I DNF’s at 20%.

Thanks to Netgalley for the audio arc in exchange for my honest review.

I'm going to start off by saying I didn't read the first book and I felt like I should have. Really liked the premise and was intrigued by what Daisy does with her pies, and although it was brought up constantly, it felt like it was just a mention like "oh, you already know." And the fact that Daisy constantly refers to herself as a serial killer but this book doesn't really show her in the light was confusing and made me feel left-out. Even though it's a part of a series, I think it should not have been assumed I know Daisy's backstory and/or that things she may say/describe in this book will make sense if I don't know what happened in the first book.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced review copy of “A Good Day to Pie” by Misha Popp. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

So I have read the first book in the series and while there is some context from the first book, you could probably pick up this one without having read the first. I’m not sure how I feel about this series. On the one hand, they’re fast reads. But on the other hand, I feel like if you stop and do any critical thinking about the murder pies it’s kind of a messed up story. Daisy has magic that makes her pies influence people’s emotions. It kind of feels like she’s trying to have it both ways where she insists the pie magic is the one that kills people. Daisy is basically a serial killer and she can also make memory erasing pies as well as murder pies.

In this second book, she goes on a reality show but doesn’t seem very mindful about if there are cameras or microphones that could be catching her talking about murder pies. She also uses her magic in her pies which is cheating since she’s trying to influence the judges’ emotions. The whole reality show was a bit much as there were a ton of characters and they stayed around after they got eliminated so it was hard to remember who was who.

I was interested in finding out who the killer was so that kept me reading. This book seems to question why Daisy has to make her murder pies when her magic can do more to help people. This brought me back to my thoughts from the first book and this one where you can’t really think about the magic too hard. There really didn’t seem to be any rules to the magic and it could change to add drama to the story which just seems like ineffective storytelling and world building.

Finally, Mellie as a character really bothers me. She keeps putting Daisy’s secrets in jeopardy. Although I agree that Daisy making a memory altering pie was messed up and Mellie was right not to eat it. In the first book, Daisy and Mellie have a flirty thing going on, but at the end of the book she ends up with a guy and is still with him in the second book although he doesn’t appear very much. So Mellie continuing to flirt seemed inappropriate. If Mellie was a male character, it would come off as more aggressive and a red flag. Just because Daisy is bi that doesn’t mean she should put up with so much flirting from someone who is supposedly her friend.

I don’t know if there are more books coming in this series. I would be interested to see if Daisy finally stops lying to herself about her murder pies and maybe tries to find a way to make her pie magic so some good without having to kill people? Daisy pretty much appoints herself judge, jury, and executioner and I know the justice system doesn’t help anyone but it feels like a slippery slope to go all vigilante like that especially when she’s getting paid to do it. I don’t know, maybe I’m thinking too hard about these books.

3/5 stars

A baking competition, a murder, and some deadly pies - A Good Day to Pie sounded like the perfect audiobook to enjoy while driving to work. While Daisy bakes a little magic into every pie she makes, her specialty is murder pies for men who especially deserve it.

The Great British Baking Show is one of my favorite shows to binge, and the show in this book - Bake My Day - is designed a lot like Bake Off. I absolutely enjoyed this entire books, but the descriptions of baking, the judging portions, the tastings, were phenomenal.

I also appreciated the recipe bases at the end to create your own cookies and quick breads, etc.

Oh, right, there were a few murders happening as well. I was not able to guess who the murderer was for any of the crimes. I was so invested in each character and honestly loved listening to this book.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the review copy of A Good Day to Pie.

I am so obsessed with this story. I loved it so much. its the best mix of magic and mystery. its snark and sass. its a cozy mystery but with baked goods and magic. It was amazing!! When I learned it was the 2nd book in a series, I went and bought the 1st book!

Tanua Eby lends her voice to bring this book to life in such a perfect way. That itself is its own kind of magic. Its just **chefs kiss**

Thank you to Misha Popp for creating this wonderful world. Thank you to Tanya Eby for the narration. Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC. and thank you to Dreamscape Media for producing it!

I’m always here for books about women’s wrongs and this was such a fun series. I really enjoyed the cozy mystery vibes and it was just a fun read!

I so badly wanted to love this book. The summary promised a terrific mashup of the Great British Bake Off and Dexter with a little magical realism sprinkled in. Sounds fun, right? This baking enthusiast was ready to be whisked away by a cozy mystery that would surely be a treat.

Unfortunately, A Good Day to Pie fell flatter than an under-baked cake. From the start, I had such a hard time keeping track of the many characters that I couldn’t really tuck in to the story. The whole “goodwill murder for hire” bit seemed like an afterthought rather than the focal ingredient, and there wasn’t a great review of events from the first book in the series that would have set the stage a little better. The focus was very much on baking and the interpersonal drama stirred up among the contestants. Overall, not what I was expecting. It was a promising recipe but ultimately not executed to my taste.

DNF.

I wanted to love this one so bad but it just didn’t do it for it. Got about 40% through and finally had to give it up.

Daisy and her found family are back. This time around Daisy is competing in a baking reality show while trying not to accidentally murder anyone she isn't supposed to. She is still running Pies Before Guys where she acts as a hitman for abused women by serving pies magicked to change the abusers. She also runs Pie Girl Productions where she sells normal pies that typically help people like giving students a boost of energy to get through their work. When one of the judges is a Pies Before Guys target, Daisy get concerned. When people in the show, including her target end up dead, Daisy is determined to figure out what happened and to make sure that Pies Before Guys is not affected or implicated in any way. It was an entertaining and interesting listen.

3.5 This book made me want to rewatch all the Great British Bake-off and it didn’t make me mad. This story followsDaisy a magical baker who is chosen for a baking tv show competition. Daisy is excited to compete for a 100k prize until people start dying in mysterious ways.
This was a very cute cozy mystery I will say I was more interested in the baking competition than the actual murders but it still made for an entertaining story. The characters were cute but pretty surface level and some of the ways Daisy used her magic felt a little convenient to what she needed to find out. That being said I have not read the first book so not sure if that might be the cause of those problems but plan to pick it up now. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator she was entertaining and easy to understand. I would like to thank the publishers and Net galley for a chance to read this book for an honest review.

I enjoyed this second installment of Pies Before Guys, a cozy mystery series. This is a slightly dark but also fun and quirky series. This was the continued the story of Daisy and her murder pies with a bit of reality TV fun. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Such a sweet sequel! For anyone who loved the slightly dark yet whimsical first in this series will enjoy this book. Imagine your dream coming true of being on a baking contest show for your magical pies and then your two worlds collide. A man who you've been hired to bake a deadly pie for happens to be there. And then people start dying ... and not from your pies.

This book is thrilling, fun, and lightweight. The one thing I missed from the first book to this one is some of the love interests from book one. I completely understand based off how the first one ended but I was hoping for some sparks to be continued or rejuvenated. That being said this book doesn't have to have a romance because there is great interactions and fun mystery. It kept me on my toes and I didn't want to put this down.

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a low stakes mystery with some whimsical elements. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
