I really enjoyed the newest entry in the Pies Before Guys mystery series. Daisy finds herself on a cooking contest where one of the judges just happens to be her next client to receive a revenge pie! An unexpected death and lots of cameos from our favorite side characters made this a fun cozy read. I hope there is a third book in the series!

I'm the target audience for this book. I definitely am. I LOVE GBBO and this gives me those vibes. Let's add a little *mystery* and it is great. I definitely need to read the first book in the series, but will pick the rest of them up.

Great audio, great book.

I got this ARC from Netgalley and the publisher.

I loved this book! It was such a great sequel to Magic, Lies, and Deadly Pies. It continued the story of Daisy and her murder pies, but still felt fresh. I really enjoyed the reality tv show aspect of this book. Can’t wait to read whatever Misha Popp writes next!

I was SO excited to see another installment of the Pies Before Guys series and “A Good Day to Pie” didn’t disappoint! I really enjoyed the first book and the second was even better! I was riveted by the setting of the baking competition television show (I watch a lot of these on tv) and I loved the addition of the new, colorful characters. So many authors these days are trying to tick off boxes to be inclusive and it seems forced and fake, but Popp manages to keep her cast of characters diverse and dynamic while still being authentic and plausible. Nothing feels preachy or showy; just natural as, of course, a nationwide television baking competition would attract a wide array of people from all types of backgrounds and life experiences. Popp doesn’t shy away from edgy one liners but nothing is ever vulgar or inappropriate. I think Daisy shines the most when she’s independent, so I didn’t mind the general absence of Noel or Melly from the previous book.

I read and listened to this book simultaneously and I was so glad to hear that it was the same narrator. Her pacing is good and she differentiates between the characters well, which was imperative in this book since there were more characters than the previous book. Her intonation is clear and you can feel the energy of the characters through the speakers. A wonderful listen!

The Pies Before Guys books are edgy cozy mysteries with a touch of magical realism, mouth watering food descriptions, and a whole lot of swagger. I am already anticipating what Daisy gets up to next!! Popp - keep these books coming!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the chance to listen to an advance audiobook and review it. All opinions are entirely my own.

Do you love a cozy mystery great British Bake off style? Well I do! This book was easy to digest and a great book in the series. I loved it even more than the first one! It was a slow burn at first but once I really understood the characters, it was a great read.

I am incredibly torn about this review.

As a book about a Great American Bake-Off, featuring yummy food descriptions and some friendly competition? Success!
Despite a huge cast of characters, many stand out (though some do get lost in the muddle) and you can root for them as you would contestants on a TV Bake-Off show. There are ample descriptions of every dish Daisy makes, and most of the ones she's up against. Truly feels like watching an episode.

As a MYSTERY book? Complete flop.

At the 45% completion mark there was still... no real mystery? There was an 'accidental death' that Daisy barely investigated, it's implied it was a murder but she just drops it in favour of focusing on her baking competition??
It does eventually pick up a bit, but this felt like 95% cozy, 5% mystery, which is not usually the ratio people look for in a book. Certainly not what I expected after the setup in book 1.

Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for access to the eAudiobook ARC.

I loved the concept of this book. A baker that magically bakes death into pies immediately hooked my interest. However, I got a little too excited too quick. I was a little confused about how this book was marketed. Everything from the cover to the quirky main character to the animal sidekick suggests this should fit into the cozy mystery category. However, early on in the book I knew I wouldn't be able to market this easily. Some content seemed a little too intense (suggested abuse of a minor and the main character debating advertising her services on hitman forums) for my cozy mystery customers and too fluff for my more serious mystery/thriller customers. Overall, while a really good concept this one fell flat with extreme swings from characters talking about pretty dark concepts to fluffy scenes of making unlikely bffs in a baking competition. This one wasn't for me.

Daisy is a witch who infuses her pies with magic. Most of her pies just encourage happy, content feelings. But if you are an abusive man, and a woman in your life reaches out, Daisy just might bake you a murder pie. Daisy has a line up of pies to deliver, but first she has to survive the baking competition show she signed up for. Unfortunately, her next victim is a judge on the show. And then people start dying on set, and Daisy needs to use her magic to solve a murder instead of create one.
So much fun! Put the first book onto my TBR list immediately. Magical murder pies and baking show murders. I could not be happier. Baking show cozy murders might be becoming my super niche reading shelf 😅

This is the second book in a series and even though you could get away with just reading this one I highly recommend you read the first one first. Mainly because it was very good as is this one!
Daisy has a pie delivery service. She and her dog, Zoe, deliver delicious pies to the absolute worst men in town and each pie has just a little murder baked into it. Now, Daisy has found herself on a televised competition show. It’s an elimination type and she has a shot at winning a good amount of money should she win. However, she does still have some “special” orders to fulfill.
She soon learns that one of her would be victims just so happens to be one of the judges and before she ever gets to that pie he winds up dead! Now she has to try to solve the murder, and maybe use a little bit of magic, before someone discovers her own little secrets.
I can’t tell you too much about this book or I’ll wind up telling you the whole thing. I had so much fun with this book. The characters are fantastically written, the story is really very funny, and it’s fun to try to figure it all out as you go on.
I got a free copy of this book in audio form from NetGalley. I really enjoyed the narrator of this story. She has the perfect voice for this character and story. If you like audio, you will like this narrator.

I really wanted to like this book, but I found the narrator really hard to listen to because the voice was too whiney. I also wanted to like the storyline and premise, but it was too slow and meandering. Also, I did not read the first book, so there are times when I have no clue what they are talking about.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series. This sequel kept the story fresh as our main character joined a cooking show, so the characters from the previous book are not focused on. Unfortunately, I missed some of the characters that were in the previous novel, and did not enjoy the cooking show plot as much as the plot from the previous story. That being said, I still enjoyed following Daisy make her magic pies. The characters from this story were enjoyable. Finally the deserts sounded to die for.

I think you you like reality TV plots, that you will probably enjoy this story a lot more than I did. Overall, I liked it. Three stars.

I did listen to the audiobook, and really liked it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this latest book in Misha Popp's cozy murdery mystery series featuring piemaker Daisy. In this book Daisy is competing in a reality baking television competition and gets wrapped up in solving the murder of one of the judges. Great on audio narrated by Tanya Eby and perfect for fans of authors like Abby Collette, Oliva Matthews or Mia P. Manansala. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

This book was a decent mystery, but did drag at points. I enjoyed how the book was set up against the backdrop of a reality baking show because it made the book more interesting.

Ok this was a fun little read. I’ve never read anything with a baking competition in it. But throw in a murder mystery, and it makes it even more interesting. And some magic? That threw me off for sure! Not 100% sure how her magic really works, but it was an interesting change. Granted, her magic might be explained in the first book and I didn’t realize this was the second book until I already started it 🤷🏼‍♂️oops lol

But I definitely really enjoyed it. It was something different from everything I’ve been reading.

This was fine - held my attention for the most part and I enjoy things with a baking reality show theme. I don't know if I missed it, but I didn't get why she originally was going to bake a pie for the target to begin with. I must have missed it, but I also think it should have been highlighted or alluded to more often because I shouldn't have missed something like that.

I will say I got Netgalleyed on this one - this is not the first time that I've requested a book based on the blurb only to find out it's the second one in a series. This book can be read as a standalone, but I may have enjoyed the main character more if I got more of her backstory in the previous book.

Fine for a one time read, a little disappointed with the big reveal, but overall cute idea.

Thank you, Netgalley, for the ARC!

I almost went into this book without reading the first one. However, if I did, I think I would’ve been fine. This book could’ve been a standalone with some background info about Daisy and Pies Before Guys added in, alongside Noel’s role and their relationship.

I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I liked this one better than the first book. It felt like there was more of a mystery here and a much more intriguing one (I read the first book not so long ago and don’t really remember what the main mystery was, so take that as you will).

If this series continues, I would love to read the books to come!

While this is the second book in the “Pies Before Guys” series, A Good Day to Pie can definitely be read as a standalone novel. I thought I was going to enjoy this cozy mystery more than I actually did. It is set on a competitive cooking show – a setting that I have liked in other books. However, I had a difficult time remembering who was who due to the large cast of characters Popp included and the magical powers of the protagonist seemed odd (this may have been my fault for not reading the first book though). Overall, it kept my attention, but it isn’t one that I would go out of my way to recommend to someone looking to read a cozy!

I normally hate cooking show books because I feel like they’re overdone and have a hard time handling the different dynamics while shooting the show and while they’re not shooting the show.

I did read the first book in this series, but I think it would work well as a stand-alone book as well.

I love a good cozy mystery, and this didn’t disappoint. I think the baking show aspect actually worked well, and I loved how Daisy used her magic pies in this new scenario.

I loved book 2 even more than book 1. It has the perfect blend of murder and cozy Great British Bakeoff Vibes. A delicious, pitch perfect follow up!

This is a Cozy Mystery, and this is the second book in the Pies Before Guys Mystery series. I really loved the first book in this series, but this book let me down a little bit. I found the book was mainly about the baking show, and we did not get a lot of the mystery or the characters that I loved from the first book. I liked this book, but I have to say I did not love it. I found parts of this book to be boring. I am just not a person that wants to read a baking show book. I really missed the food truck and the deli in this book. I also really missed the craziness and love between the characters that the first book showed so while, and this one just did not. I hope she is back in the town she lives in for the next book. I did listen to the audiobook for this book, and the narrator was good. I was kindly provided an e-copy and e-audiobook of this book by the publisher (Crooked Lane Books) or author (Misha Popp) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
