The cozy mystery genre does Bake Off? Yes, please. Only, it doesn't really work for me. Granted, I am not a huge cozy mystery fan, but there are aspects of the genre that I enjoy. Here, I liked the cast of characters (although it was difficult to keep up with them, especially on audio). The descriptions of the dishes got a bit long and tedious, and the ending was a bit of a letdown. Perhaps I would enjoy the first of the series more?

Book 2 in the Pies Before Guys Mystery ~ I suppose fine as a standalone.

Featuring ~ single 1st person POV, cooking competition, cozy mystery

Daisy is back and making her deadly pies. She enters a cooking competition and the judge is the intended victim.

While I love watching them on tv, and it was a fun part of the story, I felt like it took up too much of the book. It was a bit slow going trying to figure out who killed Brian before Daisy was able to. I wanted more killer pies. There were some good concoctions made though and I like how recipes are listed at the end.

Overall, this was fine and if you're into cozy mysteries you might like this one.

I was fortunate enough to receive a kindle copy and the audiobook to review. Tanya Eby did an alright job for 7 hours and 43 minutes.

The idea of baking magic into food is a really good one, especially if you can use that magic to target a specific person and not indiscriminately poison anyone who ate your pie.
MC Daisy runs a side business selling murder pies, specifically targeting men who are predators. In this book, the second in a series, she drops several pies off on her way to a baking competition. She is waiting to drop off one of her requested pies for after the competition, not a problem, until her intended victim turns out to be a judge on the show.
He turns up dead but it wasn't her pie that killed him so now she is on the search for who dunnit.

Friendly neighborhood baker meets vigilante serial killer meets cozy mystery sleuth.
For the most part I really enjoyed the story line and the baking show. What I didn't like was that Daisy felt a little judgy for someone who casually murdered 5 people on her way to a baking show and it felt like there were some strong hints towards sabotage going on with the show itself that ended up going no where.

3.5 stars

A Good Day to Pie is the second in book in Misha Popp's Pies Before Guys Mysteries. In this book, Daisy has been invited to compete in a baking show on television. Melly has arranged a number of "Murder Pie" drop offs on Daisy's route to the where the filming is being done. When the judges for the competition are introduced, Daisy discovers that one of the judges is on her list of deliveries after the competition is over. Unfortunately, before the competition really gets started, one of the other contestants is found dead at her station in the kitchen and shortly after that the judge Daisy was to deliver the pie to also dies.

After the first book in this series, I wasn't really sure what to expect from this book and seriously considered passing on it but I'm glad that I didn't. In this book, the author allowed Daisy to come more out of her shell and as a result expanded her circle of friends and became a better rounded protagonist. This book focused more on the actual mystery than Daisy's self-proclaimed mission to serve justice to men who cross the line in their personal relationships. This plot was also well thought out and constructed in an unusual setting that had Daisy utilizing the other competitors in the investigation instead of her previous sidekicks. I found that this also encouraged additional growth on Daisy's part as she had to rely on newly formed relationships to help her solved the mystery. I look forward to how the author continues to have these characters grow and develop in future installments of this series and would love to see some of the characters here return in future books.

With the shear number of characters in this book, the narrator faced the challenge of creating a significant number of unique voices and she easily met the challenge. The pace of narration could have been a bit slower to allow the listener to better understand the storyline developments but overall was done fairly well.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I wanted to read Misha Popp’s first Pies Before Guys cozy mystery before this one, but time didn’t allow it (too many arcs got in the way) - but A Good Day to Pie completely read as a standalone and as far as I could tell, I didn’t miss out on anything. I still plan to go back for book 1!!

I totally enjoy a good cozy mystery to mix-up my standard reading habits - and A Good Day to Pie is a perfect choice for anyone who, like me, would normally gravitate to romance. It’s especially great for those who love cooking and baking competition shows, because it totally revolves around the taping of one, and the losing of cast members (it’s a cozy mystery, afterall).

The difference here is that main character Daisy isn’t just a baking contestant on this American type version of Great British Bake-off - nope! She has a magical pie baking ability she was going to put to special use after filming wrapped… but now she doesn’t need to - she also needs to figure out who beat her to the task of taking care of somebody, and why (and also… the other(s)).

I really enjoyed the way this one was written, all of the cast of kooky characters, the twists - hey, it’s a mystery, of course the author is going to throw everyone off and write in red-herrings to keep us guessing along the way. Very well done.

Audio version - I love, love, love Tanya Eby! Everything she narrates is perfect (IMHO)! I’m used to her reading so many of my romances (I’ve listened to, gosh, must be a good 40 of her titles, since she did the entire Fool’s Gold/Happily, Inc series, among so many others), so to hear her on a cozy mystery made me feel like all of the romance was coming soon… and instead the dropping bodies just kept coming, the cooking completion went on, and no major characters had a romantic interlude. I still need more TE in my life, so I need to find more of her non-romance titles! Brilliant job as always!

I received an advance review and audio copy from NetGalley, Crooked Lane Books and Dreamscape Media, and this is my honest review.

I loved this audiobook! Great narration that kept me captivated throughout the book. I really enjoyed that setting of this cozy mystery, a reality baking show competition, and that so many on set scenes were included.

I've really enjoyed this series so far. Its a great cozy mystery series. I always have fun reading this and I always find myself laughing. This is also a great spin on the classic cozy mystery concept. I will be eagerly awaiting the next installment.

***** I received this book as an ARC audiobook from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I didn’t realize this book was the second book in the series, but it didn’t matter. This book was a delight to read as a stand alone. If you enjoy the cooking competition shows and a murder mystery this is for you. To me it was the perfect combination!

The characters are enjoyable. They were well developed and I could picture them in my head as I read!

The story is a fun mystery in a great setting. The narrator to the audiobook was very easy to listen to.

A Good Day to Pie is the second book in Misha Popp's Pies Before Guys series. To get the most out of reading A Good Day to Pie, you should really read the books in order. This was a wonderful sequel! I am looking forward to reading more in this series.

A Good Day to Pie was my first audiobook ever! I loved the first in this series, Magic, Lies and Deadly Pies by Misha Popp so I was thrilled to be gifted this advanced copy by NetGalley, Crooked Lane Books and Dreamscape Media.

This was a lot of fun - it felt like a murder mystery version of the Great British Bake-Off, or a similar reality baking show. I wasn't totally sure how the plot was going to play out, especially given the basis of Daisy's Pies Over Guys business. But it worked!

Candidly, given the nature of this book, with the various competitions and so many characters, it was a bit hard to follow via audiobook and I think I may have gotten more invested if I had read it - something to keep in mind for me in the future when considering what kind of books to listen to vs. read.

But Popp's signature wit and storytelling was there and carried this book. The way she is able to weave together the mystery, the underlying themes of justice and feminism, with a ton of characters and a bit of magic is really something special.

This is the second book in the Pies Before Guys mysteries. While it can stand independently, I recommend reading the first before jumping in. The references to magic pie baking have a whole new layer of understanding that you might not get without Daisy's background as a magic pie baker.

A Good Day to Pie combines a multiple murder mystery with the Great British Bake-Off and I am here for it. I loved that the entire book was the filming of the competition. There was the right mix of the actual baking competition along with behind-the-camera tidbits of television production and all of that off-camera drama.

It was easy to read and at the end it made me hungry for pie.

This was a delicious and decadent listen!

I was on the edge of my seat with this foodie murder mystery! I loved the narrator and the fmc who reigns supreme in this book. I have not read the first book in this series but feel like it reads well as a stand-alone although I didn't quite get the magic thing so it might be better to read the first one too. That said, the magic isn't a huge part of this story and it's done at a level that is very accessible.

I was immediately immersed in the baking show (and it gets to it so quickly which is great!) and loved all the action, the banter, the back and forth, it was all a lot of fun to listen to.

4 Stars!!

I was so excited to read this book! I came across Magic, Lies and Deadly Pies last year and loved it! I couldn't wait to read the next part of the story!

This story takes us through Daisy competing on a baking show. Definitely a spin of The Great British Baking show- and I was here for it! While I missed hearing about Noel and her dog Zoe, it was nice to be introduced to another set of characters. I found it very interesting to hear what it would be like to actually be on a baking show, kind of a behind the scenes look.

Daisy has a murder pie to be delivered after the show has completed - it's actually for one of the judges! But after a cast member dies suddenly and then the recipient of the murder pie is murdered (not by pie!) She feels it's her duty to figure out what happened, all while they continue to film the show.

I really enjoyed the dialogue throughout the book and loved the characters. And I also loved that it was the same narrator!

I hope this isn't the last of the series, as I've really been enjoying them!

Thank you to NetGalley, Crooked Lane Books and Dreamscape Media for the ARC!

This was an entertaining book! I did not realize it was a sequel but it did okay as a standalone. The suspense and mystery kept me engaged until the very end!

I love the first book in this relatively new cozy mystery series and the second does not disappoint! Fantastic narrator and great story that kept the series moving forward. I honestly didn't know where it was going but it was a delicious cozy mystery until the end! I definitely recommend this series and can't wait for more!

A Good Day to Pie comes out next week on February 7, 2023, and you can purchase HERE!

This is the pie that's going to kill me.

No, not the pie.

The process.

It's one thing to bake a honey crunch pie, but it's a whole other thing to bake it in the glare of studio lighting with a pair of cameras tracking my every move.

A vigilante baker cozy mystery is exactly what I want this book was fun and I was so happy to see that the author wrote a sequel to the first one!

A slightly different take on a cozy mystery. More cozy mystery than Dexter meets 50's magical pie baker. The description doesn't accurately prepare you for this book.

1st off, there's a murder before the one that's mentioned in the description. 2nd, I had zero idea this was a supernatural cozy until they start talk about killing bad men with magical pies.

It's a fairly stand alone book except I feel a little thrown into things at the beginning. I will most likely go back to read the first book. Also, too many people know her secret. With how paranoid she is, how is this logical?

A Good Day to Pie by Misha Popp is a true gem! I loved the first book in the series, but this second book is even better. I can't wait for the third book to keep up with Daisy and her magical cooking.

This was a really fun listen with wonderful narration. Daisy, pie baker extraordinaire enters a reality baking show a la the Great British Bake Off. The prize money is potentially life changing and she is hoping it can help to further both her regular business as well as her side business of baking a special kind of magic into certain pies to taking care of those who need taking care of. The cast is of characters from the production staff to the bakers are varies, some good and some so devious and scheming. When the bodies start to drop things get real and scary. Daisy is determined to figure it all out with her wit and her magic pies. It’s a charming read that made me laugh, smile and cringe(appropriately of course) as she starts to unravel the suspicious deaths. This is part of a series, but can absolutely read as a stand alone, but I did just buy Magic, Lies and Deadly Pies to listen to and hope that there are more forthcoming for this fun series.

Love the baking show plus murder mystery combo plot! There are a lot of charters (baking show) which was a little hard to track.
