A cute and cozy mystery.

Daisy is back at it again, but this time she’s not the one at the center of a murder.

I really enjoyed how this was about Daisy doing the detective work, while testing out her baking skills outside of just pies on a cooking show.

I liked the friends she made and how it ended.

Overall easy read. Very light hearted.

I do miss her cute pittie 🐶 since she was away from her while filming on the show.

Thank you for the arc Netgallery!

In general I really enjoyed this audiobook. It was funny and clever. I am giving the book a 5 for the content. However, I didn't care for the narrator.

The sequel in the Pies Before Guys series is an absolutely delectable cozy mystery which takes place on the set of a baking competition with a murderously covetable prize. For fans of binge-worthy baking shows served with a twist: Misha Popp sprinkles a little magic into the story with Daisy's murder pies approach to vigilante justice.

The cast of characters is varied and the author does a great job of revealing just enough about each of them to create interest and to move the plot along. The narration by Tanya Eby was masterful, with distinct voices for each character that added dimension to the story.
I really enjoyed a strong female lead whose raison d'être wasn't romance based - so refreshing!

Grab this book as you cozy up mid-winter, watching the snow accumulate from the comfort of your warm reading nook.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an early copy of this book. When I requested this title I was currently reading the first in the series and was excited to go straight in to the second. This series is an interesting take on the cozy mystery genre as from the get go the reader know the protagonist is a serial killer, though only for those she feels deserves it. If you enjoyed Dial A for Aunties this book would be right up your alley. Descriptive writing and questionable morals written in a fun readable style. Big content warnings for domestic violence and stalking during the series.

Murder is simply delightful in this humorous and entertaining cross of the Great British Bake Off and the Glass Onion movie. Our delightful murder pie maker finds herself locked into a hotel while competing on an American cooking competition television show when someone on her murder pie list is killed by someone other than herself. The twists and turns are fun and when you are becoming friends with people who might be murders then you must hurry to find the culprit without outing yourself as the murder pie girl! The author once again delightfully wove the characters into the likeable, or unlikeable as the case may be, people that are the current center of our favorite pie makers world. While the book was great, the audio book is so much better as it really brings Daisy and the other characters to life! The narration was fantastic and added that wee bit of edge to make the book just that much better. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series to listen to when it comes out! I can't wait to see what antics Daisy and crew get into in the next book!

Daisy is a baker who is on a competitive baking show. She has mysterious powers, when baked into a pie, it can either kill you or make you tell the truth. While on the baking show one of the contestants ends up dead and soon another body, that of the baking show judge that she had been hired to kill with one of her pies. Who killed them and will Daisy win the baking competition, follow Daisy as she navigates this whodunit, competitive baking show style.

I enjoyed the book but was a little lost. How did Daisy get her powers, how do they work, and is it only with pies? I realize that in a series it would feel redundant to readers of the series to have general introduction questions answered in every book. I like when a author gives a little background on a character in a series, I don’t feel as lost. Since this is dealing with magic it’s a little harder to know how Daisy became magical. The author doesn’t need to spend a lot of time providing a back story, it could be a simple paragraph or somehow introduced in the first chapter.

The narrator sounded like how I envisioned Daisy to be. I listened to the first chapter at normal speed and then sped up to 1.75.

I read the first book in this series on a whim when I saw it was available on Libby last year and immediately after finishing, I went to NetGalley and found the sequel. I've left the reading and reviewing a little late, but I'm getting to it before pub-day, so I consider myself a success. Anyway, this book was just as fun as the first one, but in a different way. Same tone, same fun writing style (same audiobook narrator), different setting and format. Part of me wishes Popp would have saved the veering off of format for further into the series when it would have been better appreciated, but the story works, so I really can't complain too much.

Here, instead of being in our main character Daisy's chosen hometown in her trusty RV with her dog Zoe, baking up murder (or vengeance) pies for men who deserve it, Daisy is competing on a new baking show that is a completely rip-off of The Great British Bake-Off in almost every way (down to the very American characters using very British words like "sponge" and a host who has a catchphrase she uses before every bake). The next part is spoiled in the blurb but if you don't want something spoiled that doesn't happen until 42% of the way into the book, skip to the next paragraph. The twist here is that Daisy decides to take on several Pies Before Guys clients on her way to the competition, and on her way back home, but one of the judges on the TV show turns out to be one of the men she's baked a pie for. Only, he is murdered before she can actually do it.

As a dealer of murder and a possessor of magic, Daisy feels it her responsibility to figure out what happened, all while they keep filming the show (not even death can stop capitalism).

One of the most notable things about this book is that it's the first book set on a Bake-Off type TV show that got the baking part completely right. As much as I love Alexis Hall's baking books, and Battle Royal, there wasn't nearly enough focus on the baking for my tastes. Here we get it in abundance, almost as if you're watching the episodes yourself. This may (and hasn't) worked for everyone, but I liked it a lot.

I have two hopes for this series going forward. The first is that it has more books but doesn't overstay its welcome, and the second that it continues to shake things up a little bit in future books, not just leave things the same. That's one of the things I don't really like about traditional cozy mysteries. The sameness doesn't read as cozy to me, it just feels stagnant. This series so far has managed to feel both cozy and let Daisy experience growth.

I do recommend the audiobook. Tanya Eby has a charming narrative voice that works for the type of book this is.

Thank you Net Galley for an audio ARC of A Good Day To Pie by Misha Pop. This is a cozy mystery where the MC baked pies made to order and meant to kill. Meanwhile, she goes on a food game show...

Audiobook Review

PLOT
This was such a fun story. I love mysteries. I love true crime. I'm a huge fan of baking competitions. This combined all three of those. Daisy is a baker. She is also a vigilante serving justice in the form of deadly pies to men who have wronged their victims and justice hasn't been served by law enforcement.

When Daisy becomes a contestant on a baking competition, the last thing she expects is for one of the judge's to be the next man she's supposed to deliver a pie to or for one of the other contestants to die before the first elimination.

This is a unique take on a bakeshop style cozy mystery, especially with the extra added element of magic.

CHARACTERS
The characters are relatable and make for fun side drama, banter, and humor. I would definitely read other books where one or more of them made appearances.

NARRATION
I loved the narrator. It was a performed story, not just a read audio recording. It was easy to listen to, fun, and engaging.

I will definitely read more from this author and look for other books from this narrator.

Misha Popp's sequel to the series Pies Before Guys Mystery follows Daisy, a baker of magical murder pies, as she works through a murder mystery all whilst trying to win a televised baking competition. The premise is very interesting, especially since the main character is a serial killer. It is rare that I get to read about magical bakers in these cozy mysteries.

Unfortunately, I did not connect with this story as well as I had hoped to. The side characters are introduced like a roll call of names and immediate traits. However, I enjoyed the way the mystery came to a conclusion. It was satisfying and involved the best parts of the book. I heard the first book was better, so I plan on reading that soon.

Daisy entered a televised baking competition and has to deliver a murder pie. But before she does, the person it was intended to, a judge in the competition, turns up dead. She now has to solve the murder before someone exposes her secret.
This cozy mystery is book 2 in the Pies Before Guys Mystery series, and I strongly suggest to read book 1 first. I didn't, and although I did get situated eventually, it took me a while, and I feel it would've been much easier if I had read book 1 first. This gave major Great British Bake Off vibes, and although I'm a huge fan of the show, in book form, it felt super redundant (bake after bake after bake after bake). If felt like a lot of it was filler. I listened to the audio book, and the narration was great. If was a fast read, with good pace, and it left me hungry!
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I listened to the audio of A Good Day to Pie by Misha Popp and narrated by Tanya Eby. This is the 2nd in the Pies Before Guys series. I read a lot of cozy mysteries and have listened to many books narrated by Tonya Eby.

This was a great cozy book with a bit of magic. Daisy is a baker and she bakes a little bit of magic (and sometimes murder) into her pies. This book has her on a baking show and she needs to deliver a murder pie to one of the judges who ends up dead before she can deliver her murder pie. She works to solve the murder and also uses some other magic in her cooking to get clues. It was a very fun premise. The book was well written with funny parts throughout. I loved her interaction with the other characters and her problem solving skills. It had everything a good cozy mystery needs! I will definitely go back and read the first in the series and be on the look out for more by Misha Popp. The narration by Tonya Eby was great as well.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity for a first listen.

Baking show turned murder mystery!! This book was super cleaver with having a lead of the book trying to solve her own problems with the “job” she was assigned but also solve the mystery of why 2 of her competitors have suddenly died. Thanks for the early listen NetGalley.

A reality baking competition... A vigilante with pie magic... and then a body shows up.

Daisy has her life together. She has a found family, an established pie business, and a side gig where she sells magic murderous pies for men who really deserve it. She's been accepted onto a reality baking show, but someone turns up dead, and Daisy is determined to get to the bottom of it.

Oh I love reality baking shows! It was refreshing to read a reality TV book that wasn't all about backstabbing. I liked Daisy and most of the characters. With so many contestants, I sometimes forgot which one was which, especially among the very similar male characters.

I enjoyed reading this cozy mystery, and the narration was good. I wouldn't recommend it as a stand-out book. If you like reality TV, hidden passages, no romance, and a determined young woman, this may be the book for you.

I think I missed out by not having read the first in series, but it's still a very good read.
This is the second in Misha Popp's Pies Before Guys Mystery Series and I hope it goes on for many more. Daisy has an interesting sideline with her pies and is planning to pursue that on the way home from a TV baking contest, but there is a big surprise happens when the target of her "special" pie gets murdered during the contest. Let the sleuthing begin!
The audio is narrated by chirpy experienced voice actor Tanya Eby.
I requested and received a free temporary audio copy from Dreamscape Media via NetGalley. Thank you!

I’d give this a solid 3.5.

I love a good mystery…and pie, so I jumped at the chance to read this. The mystery aspect was good, and I really liked the different characters introduced. It was a great variety of personalities that worked well. And I think that the mystery definitely left some breadcrumbs to follow for nearly everyone involved, so that by the time the ending came around, the killer could’ve been several people.

I have two critiques. First, while I loved the mystery aspect, it was almost drowned out by the details of the contest. It was essentially like listening to The Great British Bake-off. I understand that it’s important to include details to give it a bit of reality, but it was too much for me. Secondly, and just a personal issue, the narrator mispronounced a few words, and it took me out of the story. If it were once, it would be fine, but unfortunately, when it happened, she would repeat the word a few lines later and it would just caused a knee jerk reaction for me.

Not a bad book, especially if you’re a big fan of GBBO.

Daisy has a magic hand with pies, which is perfect as she goes on a new reality baking show. The only problem with the show is that death seems to be lurking at every station. Unweaving the lattice work of their pasts, the competitors team up to try to solve the mystery themselves, who is the killer and who will survive to win the competition?

I didn't realize until I was reading that this is book#2 of a series. While I had to surmise some information, this could be a standalone book. Some of the twists were expected, others weren't. All in all, a good read if GBBO and mysteries are your cups of tea.

This is the second book in the Pies Before Guys series. This is a fun series and I like the riff on the GBBO. It’s a good cozy but I missed the supporting characters from book one. I think this book would have been better after another book or two, when the supporting characters and background have been more established. I’m still looking forward to the next installment!

Such a sweet mystery series! I wish there were more of the regulars from the first novel present but I loved this one as much as that one.

I’ll be honest I was so wrapped up in the cooking contest that at times I forgot to try and figure out whodunit.

I really hope there is many many more in this series. Especially with this narrator for the audiobook. They did such a wonderful job with all the characters.
