Darcy Burke is my go-to for historical romance. This was a plus for me and I will read more from her any day of the week. Read it.

Lucien… a great brother and friend, a frustrated son, and the man who’s wanted to outright own the Phoenix Club. Having been the heart of the club, and always helpful to his friends and family, I've been looking forward to reading Lucien's story since the first book of the series.

As the final book of the series, we see mysteries - older and new solved and answered, many of the subplots are resolved and I enjoyed the author revisiting other former main characters in this series so we can see a little glimpse of them as well as our MC’s.

Some issues
- the author describes everyone by their race - this is not an issue but for the fact that there’s one POC character in the book, and it’s written out in such a way that I found to be a bit awkward.
- I really didn’t like Kat, even at 60% of the way through the book - she was often selfish and I didn’t have much patience for it after a while. She struck me as a liability, with her willingness to talk about Lucien’s club troubles to many. Kat seemed to be perhaps on the spectrum herself, but also just a thoughtless jerk.

I’ve enjoyed so many of the author’s books that it pains me to write this review, but the coupling of Lucien and Kat (where is the chemistry?) - they never seem passionate or in love, and that, along with my other issues, just kind of turned this one into a meh for me, that unfortunately, didn’t quite hit in the same way as previous books have. The most interesting part of the book, to me, was what was going on with the club.

I received a copy of Insatiable by Darcy Burke from NetGalley. This is the eighth addition to the Phoenix Club series. A historical romance, it follows the romance of Lord Lucien Westbrook and Miss Kathleen Shaughnessy.
Lucien and Kathleen, have been introduced in the previous books. Lucien’s character plays some role in every couple’s story before, but there was a lot of mystery around him. Kathleen (Kat) is Lucien’s sister Cassandra’s sister-in-law. She is extremely inquisitive and scientific and wants to continue her research work. Lucien being a gentleman, offers Kat help for her research, and then there are sparks flying left and right.
I have read all the other books, so I was aware of some of the characteristics of these two characters. But the way they were developed was very interesting. Both are attracted to each other from the start almost, but nothing happens instantly. For Kathleen, it is pure logic that makes Lucien the perfect candidate to help her, although she starts understanding the gravity of her feeling much later. They are kind of family because of their siblings, so there is hesitancy in the beginning. Their relationship development from sort of friends to romance seemed realistic the way it unfolded.
Insatiable is the last book of the Phoenix Club series. Darcy Burke has done an amazing job with these characters and stories. Every story has a different feel to it, yet are connected. Insatiable answers a lot of questions from previous stories with those characters making cameos too. Kat and Lucien have to be one of my favorite love stories of the series. The book kept me hooked from the start, and I finished it in a day. The Phoenix Club series is a romantic, passionate, and sweet historical romance series, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I am thrilled to have come this far in the Phoenix Club series. While I have enjoyed all the books in the series, this would be slated as my least favourite. For one, I felt there was way too much political talk that it took quite a bit for the romance to take off. And secondly, I wasn't that much of a fan of Kat.

Another great read from the Phoenix series! I loved Kats and Lucians chemistry! Also a refreshing heroin that is strong and independent in her own way while still needing help in things that her book smartness cannot help her.

Definitely a recommended read!

Insatiable is the story of Lucian Westbrook, the second son to the Duke of Evesham and Kathleen Shaughnessy who is the sister of Lucian's best friend, Ruark, the Earl of Westover. Lucian is the owner of the club, the Phoenix and Kat approaches him with a request to help her research the mating rituals of humans. Lucian is hesitant to assist Kathleen because she is his best friend's sister who is also married to Lucian's sister, Cass. As Lucian and Kat spend more time together, they are caught up in desire for each other that neither of them can resist. As Lucian gets caught up in the intrigue surrounding his club and the Foreign Office, he finds out why he and his father have such a difficult relationship. Kat, who does not wish to be married, must find a way she can still connect with Lucian without being tied to him by matrimony. Very steamy, romantic and adventurous. This was a great addition to the previous books. I am loving forward to the next installment from Darcy.

I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

I have been waiting for what seems like forever for Lucian's book and it did not disappoint! Insatiable is the final book in the Phoenix Club series. Lucian has been an integral fixture in all eight books but I knew Darcy Burke would do him justice. There had been a lot of questions at the end of the seventh book as to the fate of the Phoenix Club and Lucian's role in the future. The book picks up pretty much where the last book ends.

Lucian has spent the last few years being a problem solver, matchmaker, and assisting the Home Office by running the Phoenix Club but they no longer like how he's running things. His personal life doesn't seem to be running any better. All of his friends and family have all been matched up but that's not in the cards for him... until he see's his best friends sister, Kathleen, in a new light. Kathleen has been on the fringes of society since a mishap involving kissing an already betrothed man. She has a scientifically minded disposition and has decided to conduct her own passion experiments, but she must find a man to assist her. At first, Lucian cannot believe the experiments that Kat is requesting of him but now he can't stop thinking of her and her "list."

This book was packed with plot and I felt like the mystery surrounding the Home Office was resolved satisfactorily. I loved the juxtaposition between Kat and Lucian's personalities. Lucian was so patient with her always making sure she was comfortable. He never treated her like she was stupid for being inexperienced or different. Kat suffers from anxiety in crowds and he was supportive and protective. Darcy Burke consistently writes such interesting and compelling characters. Lucian has been a favorite of mine since the beginning of the series. The scene when he's hiding under her bed and she can only see his boots had me laughing out loud. I'm really glad we got some resolution regarding Lucian's family dynamic with his father. We also got a lot of cameo's from our previous book heroes and heroines. I'm sad to see the Phoenix Club end but know that Darcy's next books will be just as entertaining.

Thank you to Darcy Burke, NetGalley, and Zealous Quill Press for this eARC. All opinions expressed are my own. #darcyburke #netgalley #phoenixclubseries #zealousquillpress #insatiablebook

When his best friend's very straight-forward and blunt talking sister asks for his help in researching scientific matters Lord Lucien knows he should say no, because the research she is asking him to conduct with her is researching human mating habits and she wants to personally participate in the research, with him!
I totally fell in love with Lord Lucien, he is all you could dream of in a regency hero, and Kathleen was totally captivating with her blunt no nonsense talk and approach to the matter of, um, well human mating rituals, so to speak. Her open view is like a breath of fresh air in the snobby, prudish world of the ton, where everything is masked with smoke and mirrors and nothing is as it appears.Zealous Quill Press
I really enjoyed this fast moving romance with a bit of mystery and action thrown in. I couldn't have asked for anything, it kept my interest from start to finish. I recommend to all historical regency romance lovers, this one is for you!

I did not finish this book. A big part of this was no fault of the author. There are some series where you can read each book as a stand-alone, and some where you should read each book in the series to know what’s going on—this book seems to be the latter. Especially since it is the eighth book in the series and I have not read any of the previous seven. I made it about 15% of the way through the book, but the entire time I felt lost and like I was missing a lot of backstory. This is a story with a lot of different characters, and it would definitely be helpful to know who they are and their background beforehand. From what I did read, I don’t have any complaints about the author’s writing other than that her descriptions of the characters’ appearance can be a bit dry.

The Home Office is causing problems for Lucien and his control of The Phoenix Club. Kat Shaughnessy's questions on human mating rituals are also having unexpected reactions and distractions for Lucien. Like magnates, they can't stay away from each other. Add his ongoing conflict with his father, is it any wonder Lucien keeps turning to Kat for comfort. Friends and family join forces to find a traitor and a murderer in the Home Office, when Kat inadvertently finds herself in trouble. An autistic heroine finds her happily ever after and a great ending to the series!
Who said sex can't be funny?!?!
Heat level HOT!!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Riveting

This book is the conclusion of the Phoenix Club series. Some villains get found out, that took me by surprise. I loved Lucien's story, a major revelation at the end.

I received a copy from Netgalley; this is my honest review
-Worth a 5-star, dropped to 4 when everyone's physical description started with either "white" or "black" - this one being Dougal only. I noticed this in her other books and I'm wondering why it's so important. Lucien is "tall and white". Fiona "was also white". The butler was "a white man". "Kent was a white man". Jess: "she was white like Kat". Fallin AKA Dougal "a tall Black man" (sic) "as a Black man raised by white parents" (sic). Edgemont, "a white man". Lady Pickering is "a white lady". By this time, I was thinking FFS. Ada was "a petite white woman". Of course she was. Then I dropped to a 3 because, really, there are too much bedroom scenes, not enough delivery.
-The Q&A between Lucien and Kathleen was rather funny. She really has no bounds.
-I loved how Lucien was mindful of tiny details that affected Kat, like having her pins put on a table instead of dropped on the floor.
-I was confused as to Lucien's turnabout. He didn't want a lover nor a mistress but doesn't mind taking Kat's virginity?
-Is it just me or there were 2-3 innuendos about Hawwy and Me-Gain? Another one about supporting the LGBT community or not, which in those days was really dangerous.
-Unnecessary repeats such as how Lucien was discharged, how he lied to protect Max, "I'll tell you - and only you -" - he previously told Con, how some memberships didn't align with the Club's mission, how Lucien sent Ada to help Max and the love that followed. All of that could have cut a good portion of the page count.

I have read a handful of Darcy Burka’s books and I always enjoy her style of writing. This book was no exception.

Both main characters were both well written and incredibly charming. The pair were the definition of opposites always attract.

The style of her writing is always so pleasant and one comes to adore the characters so easily from the start of the book.

This is such a great series!!
After Miss Kathleen Shaughnessy is seen kissing a gentleman in a Gloucestershire garden, she’s sent to London to avoid scandal. She doesn’t, however, plan to abandon her research of mating rituals, and she knows the perfect person to provide assistance: her brother’s best friend, Lord Lucien Westbrook, who is renowned for helping others.
Disdained by his haughty father, Lucien runs the Phoenix Club, an inclusive community where no one is ostracized or overlooked. It’s also a secret rendezvous for the Foreign Office, where important connections are made, and information is passed—until a scandal ricochets through the club and threatens Lucien’s position with his superiors. As Lucien works to maintain control of the club, his best friend’s sister seeks his personal expertise and assistance with researching the “science” of mating. He’s soon battling his desire for her as well as the powerful forces who wish to push him out of his club. When Kat is thrust into real danger, Lucien will stop at nothing to protect the woman who has stolen his heart.
I was waiting for Lucien’s story from the beginning and I was really happy to finally read it. He’s an amazing character who helped many others during this series. He’s considerate, and caring but also so hot and attractive. I was not a fan of Kat. I wanted someone different for him, but I get to see why they work so well together.
There’s aghast, mystery and great side characters form the previous book, something I´m always grateful for. Both characters are really well developed and have all this interesting layers. Darcy Burkes delivers great stories and this one is not an exception.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you NetGalley. This was the last book in the series and it brought several things to a close. Lucien Has run the club and helped many of his friends now it is their turn to help him. Now Kathleen his best friend's sister has asked for help. She is doing a project on mating between animals as well as humans. It got her in some trouble with getting caught kissing another young miss's fiance. Lucien might lose the club because he won't fire Evie. Who really killed Giraud? Why does Lucien's father hate him so? Some of the answers to past questions are answered in this book. I am sorry to see the series end as it has been a lot of fun reading it.

A great end to the series.

I loved Kat and Lucien together and can’t imagine them with anyone else. I adored how they cared for each other and Lucien accepted Kat’s autism with no judgment. And this was h-o-t.

I have loved this series so much and a few books were favorites of last year for me. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys historical romance and I’m sure at least one book in the series will be a favorite for you.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Finally we get to Lord Lucien Westbrook HEA. Lucien has been in all the previous books in the series, as the supposed owner of the Phoenix Club. His hand was somewhat in all the matchmaking with his family and friends that are all apart of his life. He is happy as a bachelor with no plans of marriage, but crossing paths with his brother in law’s sister has him in a situation he never thought to be in.
Miss Kathleen Shaughnessy is a bit different than the normal. Very inquisitive, doesn’t believe in fake people, tells it like it is and is easily overwhelmed in crowds. She decided to continue her research in mating rituals of the human kind after exhausting her studies of animal mating rituals. Also being sent to London after her experiment kissing a man was observed and caused the gossips to shred her reputation. She decides Lucien would be perfect!
There are many secrets that come out, so I will not go into the details. Love the way the previous couples all support Lucien with little flashbacks to their own HEA. One really must read the entire series or you will miss out. The way the author portrays Kat and her Autism was fantastic, everyone is effected differently but she really wrote that character well.
Thank you NetGalley for this eARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. #NetGalley #Insatiable #DarcyBurke

Finally, we get Lucien's story and the reason behind the Pheonix Club. Burke did a great job foreshadowing its origin story throughout the series; I didn't see that coming. Loved the explanation and resolution.

I didn't love Lucien's FMC. She was a bit too clinical and detached for me. I felt he deserved someone with more passion and personality, especially since he shoulders other people's problems.

So excited we got to this conclusion and I loved learning more about Lucien. It helped put his character into perspective.
