Dang!! Ok ok- I really enjoyed this book! I've never read anything by Daniel Hurst before, but you can bet I'll seek out more! Thank you to #Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the Audio Arc in exchange for my honest review. First of all- let me say the narrators were wonderful. As for the story- man.... where to begin?

The Doctor's Wife is about a couple from Manchester- the husband is a very busy doctor & the wife stays home. They decide life is too busy in the big city and agree to move to a quiet little town where they hope life can be more enjoyable and they can spend more time together if he has less patients and a slower lifestyle. Turns out the good doctor was lying about his motive for moving to the smaller town... he has his mind set on something and he's praying his wife goes along for the ride. ...She does .... But he does not know that she has secrets as well... and they're all too good!

I have to say, I really grew to dislike the doctor in this book. He was just awful.... and I really did enjoy the character of Fern, the doctor's wife. I loved her attitude, her support for her husband and I really liked how her mind worked and the games she played. I thought she was entirely entertaining! I may have turned on her as the story continued and liked her less, but she was greatly written. There was some predictability, but also some twists in there I was not expecting. Once I got started listening, I had to keep on going on! I needed to know, and it was such an enjoyable read!

This book was just a "meh" book. Dull and soft thrills. The plot is great, and the author did a great job of describing the husband's thought processes as narcissistic and patronizing without him realizing it. I really love the ending and lack of accountability, even though so many people may not. But, for the most part, it feels like the author was trying too hard. For example, the author overexplained details from the character's POV that would have been much more satisfying and mysterious if left out. The "twists" felt more like slight curves instead of sucker punches of shock. It could have been written in a more thrilling way and emphasized the scheming and teaming of the characters. As an audiobook, it was narrated extremely slowly, as is usual for a British narrator. I had to place the speed at 1.75. There were parts of the novel where the narrator took a breath mid-sentence which felt abrupt and interrupting.

Thanks to NetGalley for early access.

The Doctor's Wife by Daniel Hurst.

The saying 'Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned' springs to mind! Wow - what a gripping read. It's dark, gritty and utterly gripping. I spent the entire day listening to this as I just couldn't stop. The narrators Sarah Durham and David Wayman add to the intensity. I thoroughly recommend.

A doctor thinks he's hiding all his secrets, but his wife has it all figured out and she's not going to let him get away with lying to her. The Doctor's Wife was a quick read that kept me engaged from start to finish with constant action moving the story along. Unfortunately, I personally found the twists to be pretty predictable which detracted from my enjoyment. I liked the way the book was written and laid out and I think I'll give author Daniel Hurst another try! I've read good things about his other works on Goodreads!

Although most of the story is predictable, there is a plot twist that I definitely see coming.

The Doctor’s Wife is a quick story that may not be the biggest mystery, but it’s enjoyable enough.

My husband is a doctor. He’s smart and charming and everybody trusts him. Except me.

On the surface, it looks like I have it all – the perfect marriage, the perfect husband, the perfect life. But it’s far from the truth.

Daniel Hirst is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. This is a fast paced, high tension, revenge thriller, and I loved it! Plenty of red herrings that kept me turning the pages ... with a deliciously wicked ending!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced reading copy.

Amazing book with lots of twists! The moment we thought we got it, another twist came! What a journey. There are also different narrators for the characters so it makes it easy to understand each POV. I finished the audiobook in one sitting!

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Bookouture Audio, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Dr. Drew convinces his wife Fern to relocate from Manchester - claiming that he wants a slow life, will be able to spend more time with her - and Fern agrees. But Dr. Drew has his own secret motive for this move, one that his wife knows already but he doesn't know that she knows!

I finished this book very quickly, and it was a really good book - kind of half predictable but the end sounds like there's going to be a book # 2. I look forward to reading that to know where Fern's life takes her next.

Thanks to Bookouture Audio, Daniel Hurst, Netgalley for approving this audiobook arc in exchange for an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed narration by Sarah Durham, David Wayman.

While the book moved at a slower pace than I would have preferred, I was fascinated by the story line and the perspective of both main characters - including the secrets they each had. While I had my suspicions, I was surprised at some of the pieces revealed at the end. It is a book I would read a part 2 of!

I was given the audiobook on ARC at Netgalley and in return gave my honest feedback.

This is my first book by Daniel Hurst and it was a great psychological thriller. It was a quick, easy listen told from two POVs - the doctor and the doctor's wife. Neither of the main characters are likeable. Doctor Drew is horrible and his wife, Fern, isn't much better. The story grabbed me from the start and continued at a fast pace with several twists. I loved the settting of a small seaside village on the England/Scotland Border. I would definitely listen to more by this author.

Nicely read by Sarah Durham and David Wayman.

. I don’t have any major critiques of this book, just that it wasn’t the most original thing I’ve ever read. I saw a lot of the twists coming, but it’s hard not to in another book about a (SPOILER) cheating spouse. It was enjoyable to listen to though, & the writing kept my attention the whole time.

The Doctor’s Wife was just an ok book for me. Kind of predictable and not very interesting. One positive note it was a quick read and short chapters.

This is an interesting, suspenseful little thriller that culminates in a dramatic twist. This writer is always good when I want a story that’s quick and intense with an ending that’s all but guaranteed to be satisfying. I liked this one as well and will be keeping an eye out for what comes next.

Fern and Drew move from bustling Manchester to a small village. Drew claims he wants a slower practice to spend more time with her. In reality Drew wants to move to this coastal town to be closer to Alice. She recently ended their affair and moved away and Drew decides he cannot live without Alice so he moves with Fern soon after. Fern isn’t happy about the move, nor is she oblivious to the reasons her husband wants to. She knows the relationship ended and want’s to see what Dru, Who has no clue she knows will do after they settle in. On one of the first weekend in their new village Drew goes to the local pub and makes friends with Rory is Alice’s husband and needless to say Alice isn’t happy at all. Then when Drew and Fern run into Allison and Rory at a local festival in Fern invite them to dinner, Drew tries to play sick but Fern knowing why won’t be having any of that. It seems everyone at this dinner party has ulterior motives and before the story is over only one will be left standing. This book was so good and I certainly didn’t see it going where it went and I guess I should’ve due to the prologue and because I know Daniel Hearst and his demented imagination. I have been joyed a few books by him in the past and certainly enjoyed this one. I thought the narrators were really good and made it easy to know who were speaking in win. If you love a good domestic thriller then you should read The Doctors Wife by Daniel hurst I received this book from NetGalley and bookoucher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Thank you for allowing me to listen to this audio book!
I listened to it in one day! I couldn't stop listening as it was so good. Loved it from beginning to end. The twists were unexpected and well thought out. Not giving any spoilers, but I totally did not expect any of them. I also thoroughly enjoyed that the author added an epilogue that came as a big surprise...and leaving room for an additional story/book maybe later on.
This book did not disappoint and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good mystery!;
Great characters and descriptions that allows the reader to picture them in real. Awesome job and will be looking to read lots more by this author!

Just because I can, I will start at the end of the book. That twist at the end...and the one in the epilogue was amazing! You thought it was done and then it wasn't. Really well thought out. I am becoming a huge Daniel Hurst fan. This book needed something to pull it through and that pretty much did it.

It started off pretty slow, meeting the married couple Fern and Dr Dew and trying to piece out why they would move from Manchester to a little town in the middle of nowhere. The storyline flows really well as the plot comes together. We root for Fern, although her character is a little bit unlikeable. The dual POV's gave all the answers you will seek.

A really good story that hits the mark!

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

3.5 Stars (I could not add a half)

The Doctor's Wife was overall a good suspense thriller that kept me engaged, and definitely interested, but not heart-wrenchingly moving enough to keep me on the edge of my seat. Love, Lies, Deceit and secrets are ingredients of the marriage between Dr. Drew Devlin and Fern.

Fern loves her husband, and is willing to move and have a fresh start. Dr. Drew has secrets and continues to lie to Fern. She knows too much, and has chosen to forgive him for his past transgressions.

This book is a bit of a cat and mouse chase, and the little shock value is toward the end, but unfortunately the plot is not suspenseful enough. The ending was a bit predictable, and based on the epiloque, it is likely there will be a sequel. Though it would have been nice if the characters were fully developed.

Even with the predictable plot and underdeveloped characters, I recommend this to those who love reading suspense thrillers. I look forward to read other works by this author.

This book kept me on my toes, especially the ending! The narrators are great to listen to and the story will keep you interested from the beginning to the end. This would make a great Book Club read. Drew thought his secrets were safe, but Fern knows much more than he thinks. How far will Fern go? I’m interested to see if there will be another book in the series.
