I feel like my reviews of the books published by Rebel Girls might be getting repetitive, but these volumes are all so wonderful. No exceptions! A great message, bold illustrations, useful activities to deepen the knowledge just gained... they have it all.

I hadn't heard of Dr. Wangari Maathai before reading this book after being sent it as an advanced read from Netgalley.

I discovered what an incredible woman she was, and how she became a person to admire both from her home country of Kenya and the world when it comes to her education and environmental fight. The book tells us of how a young Wangari Maathai managed to attend school and gain a scholarship which opened so many opportunities for her. I found as always, that the author's of the Rebel Girls series are respectful of what the person has endured. Maathai endured both racism and sexism not only in Kenya, but in America and whilst its spoken about it's done carefully given the age of children these are written for.

The artwork is stunning, and the writing wonderfully done and are complimentary of one another. This series, called The Chapter Books, is going to be a guaranteed success and I'd happily buy them for young children, regardless of their gender as education that is accessible such as these; is important for all.

I always love learning about women who have changed the world and so I have been really enjoying Rebel Girls' longer books that cover just one woman I loved this book and found it to be very informative. I would recommend this book for young readers, especially those with a love of nature.

This was incredibly sweet. I had no idea who Dr. Wangari Maathai was before this book, and I'm glad I do now. Honestly, just thinking about the strength and determination makes my head explode!

This is a short narrative nonfiction story about the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004; she was also the first environmentalist to win it. It's a very inspiring story about the power of one.

The inspiring true story of Dr. Wangari Maathai makes for another fantastic Rebel Girls chapter book. Born in Kenya, Wangari was fascinated with the natural world from a young age. After studying biology in the US, she used her knowledge to restore land in Kenya that had been damaged by deforestation. She started the Green Belt Movement, which continues today, planting trees to help restore our natural environment. She fought on despite opposition from the Kenyan government. Quite the success story.

Like all Rebel Girls books, this quick to read story is inspiring and empowering. The illustrations are well done, and the writing is simple and clear, perfect for young readers. I will continue to read and recommend these stories to all young girls.

A Rebel Girls biography about an environmentalist from Kenya. Dr. Maathai grew up in a tiny village and had wondered at the natural world around her, even if she didn’t quite understand it. Then after asking why she didn’t go to school, her family agreed that she should. And she kept going, getting a rare place in an American university to study biology, eventually getting a doctorate in Kenya. But Kenya had changed, forests were cut down for farming that didn’t take. And she created a group to replant the natural forest, Green Belt Movement. A good biography for kids. I recommend it and it has activities at the end of the book. After reading this, I’m inspired to plant a forest as well. Time to look for a group in my area.

Let me introduce you to yet another wonderful book from Rebel Girls that I decided was getting a five-star rating after two pages. Dr. Wangari Maathai Plants a Forest is an installment in the Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls chapter book series. Any book in this series is the perfect gift for any young reader.

Meet Wangari Mathai. This is her life story. From rural Kenya, she earned an education and went on to become the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Also, a leader of the Green Belt Movement, Mathai decided that the solution to the problems in the area was simple, and they needed to plant trees. This story teaches readers the importance of making your voice heard and using that voice to protect the natural world.

This is another book by Rebel Girls to reread and have the physical copy in my home library. Children of all ages should hear this story and it is a book that should be in every classroom, bookstore, and library. This historical fiction chapter book includes additional information on Dr. Wangari Maathai’s lasting legacy and three educational activities designed to encourage activism and caring for the planet.

In the latest installment of their good night tales for girls, the Rebel Girls tell the story of a lady who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 but whose name I don't recognize. She went to school all the way through college despite being a girl growing up in Nigeria whose parents first forbade her from attending. She entered politics after launching various initiatives inspired by her passion for and expertise in the natural world and her native land. The standard additional activities and high-quality images are included.

What a wonderful addition to the Rebel Girls series! I hadn't heard of Wangari Maathai before this book, so I was excited to learn more about this incredible woman than did so much for the environment in Kenya.

The Rebel Girls books are something I very much wish I had when I was a young girl. In each iteration, they highlight incredible women's inspirational accomplishments. And they do such a great job in who they choose to feature... Readers get to learn about women from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and areas of expertise. This diversity is so important for little girls.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Dr. Wangari Maathai Plants a Forest is a great addition to the Rebel Girls series. This is the first in this stand-alone series I've read so far, and I can't wait to discover more in this series. I had heard of Dr. Wengari Maathai but didn't actually know much about her. This book was both educational and inspirational and had lovely, befitting illustrations! This inspiring lady grew up in Nigeria and wasn't allowed (in those days) to attend school. When she could get access to a proper education, she studied and researched several projects involving her love of nature. She eventually moved on to politics, too, after returning from her time at university to returning to her home country of Kenya and finding it very much changed. This lady faced many hardships and continued to pursue what she loved! A great book for young females of today!

Before I came in contact with this book, I knew nothing about the story of Dr. Wangari Maathai, except that she had received the Nobel Peace Prize. I am affected by the biography, simple, lyrical, but which does justice to the greatness of this incredible personality that was Maathai.

As always the illustrations complement the text, taking us at times to the place where the activist lived, and especially by the way her culture led her to be someone so engaged in environmental conservation.

Waiting for the opportunity to read more biographies made for the children's audience, which enchants me even though I am not in this age group. After all, through this type of reading we can build interest in delving deeper into the stories of relevant people in world history.

As a big fan of the Rebel Girls series, my biggest frustration has always been that the stories are so short, meaning you only get to learn a little about the amazing women they illuminate. So this new series of Rebel Girls books are just what I was looking for - each book based on the life of one woman, enabling you to learn their full story. Dr Wangari Maathai was largely unknown to me before starting this book, and now I know all about the transformational work she did in Africa and the challenges she faced as a woman. An inspirational tale.
