This is my first read from this author and unfortunately was a let down. The writing was simplistic, leaning heavily on telling rather than showing. I predicted literally every plot twist before it happened, though I don’t hold that against the author. I liked the premise of the story, but the execution was lacking. I might try another from this author if I’m looking for a quick read, and perhaps may enjoy it more with my expectations more in check!

What a chaos family, disfungsional, keep together to cover each other secret, being selfish, lying to each other. How could Kim have heart to do that to her bestfriend was beyond me, Ryan even reconsider to be with Kim after that night. But woww what a vixen Nicole is. I enjoy the story and the secrets.

Thank you to NetGalley for provide this book, it is pleasure to review this book.

Secrets Will Out..
Secrets and subterfuge galore in this immersive psychological suspense. Nicola and Ryan accept an invitation to stay with good friends at their holiday home, a luxury lakeside retreat. It is to be a wonderful escape from reality for a short while and a chance to experience the luxury lifestyle that their friends are leading - the friends that they know so well. Things, however, are about to turn sour as secrets will out and, as everyone knows, some secrets can be deadly. A pacy and tension fuelled read with a well drawn cast of characters, an edgy narrative and a swiftly moving plot.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for letting me read this psychological thriller. I enjoy Daniel Hurst's thriller reads, this is my second one - the first being Doctor's wife. This one was a quick read with less than 200 pages. Nothing too complicated, just a simple thriller with a few characters - Nicola, Ryan and Emily - who leads a modest life and Kim, Lewis and Cole - a 'done better' family. They decides to go on a trip to Lewis and Kim's luxury home and a lot of secrets unravels there. If you are in the mood for a fast paced read, go for it!

Due to recent events in my life i had lost my reading mojo. Having read Daniels Hurst's books before I knew that this would be a great book to tempt me back into the reading bug.

It certainly did not disappoint. This was such a quick read as I was engrossed in the storyline.

Nicola and Kim have been lifelong friends. Studying together, they continued their friendship through marriage and motherhood. Nicola, married Ryan and they have a daughter Emily. Kim married business man Lewis and they have a son Cole. Over the years the families have spent much time together including breaks away.

So when Kim invites them to stay at her new Scottish holiday home, Nicola jumps at the chance of them spending time together. However, things change over a chance overheard conversation. Lives are not what they seem. The weekend, then ends up with devastating consequences when one of the party turns up dead. Is anyone safe.

This is a riveting read and one that you'll certainly enjoy.

This was another fast based thriller from this author who likes to keep his readers on their toes in a gripping thriller which would make a good tv dramatisation.

You’ve maybe heard the saying there is no such thing as a free holiday and this book draws on that analogy with its storyline. All good things must come at a price.

This is a domestic thriller which also shows that things underneath and in reality are never the same as they seen oj the surface and that the truth will come out eventually.

This author is a new one to me who I only discovered a couple of months again so am enjoying exploring more of his books and looking forward to his next one.

This was such an easy, fast and fun read! I read it in 2 sittings. In typical Daniel Hurst style, the atmosphere of secluded luxurious cabin, secrets between couples and the final twist had me thoroughly invested in the story! The last chapter left my jaw on the floor and for some reason I hadn't expected it to but should have.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC!

A holiday home... I guess that is something a lot people dream about. Me, included. I would most certainly not pick this destination, not because I have something against the country, but because for me holiday means sun, sea and sand. :)

It mus be fun having a best friend who has a holiday home and does not hesitate to invite you and your family along. That's what best friends are for, right? You have known each other for many years and even though your spouses don't always see eye to eye, you try to make the best of it.

Spending time with your best friend is wonderful, but how well do you know them?

One conversation that was not meant for you to know about is all it takes to wipe everything you believed in away. Not only your life is about to be turned upside down though...

For you the next step is crystal clear. Others might not agree...

I love these author's books. The characters feel so real. It could be people you meet everyday. What I love about his stories too is when you think yo know it all, he still finds something to make you blow away.

I cannot wait for his next book. 5 stars

Thank you

What could possibly go wrong when you're invited to stay in your best friends log cabin in Scotland for a weekend break. A chance to sit back and relax with your husbands and children. Well if you're characters in a Daniel Hurst book prepare for anything as he takes Nicola on a holiday she will never forget. Tension and overheard conversations put her on edge from the very first day. By the end of the weekend she may wonder if her life will ever be the same again.
Daniel Hurst always writes fast paced thrillers, one chapter is never enough and this book is no exception.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this advanced copy, I'm under no obligation to leave my review

Daniel Hurst is always a great read! What a thriller! I sped through this novel of two families at a vacation home in the forest of Scotland. It was a fast paced and kept me guessing all the way up to the final pages! Twists after twists! I know when I pick up a Hurst novel it’s just going to be a quick fun enjoyable read that I won’t figure out until the end! Can’t wait for his next book! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Daniel Hurst is a go to for faced paced, enthralling stories. He draws you in right away, and there is always a satisfying conclusion. This book could have been called lies, lies and more lies. Two couples and their children take a weekend trip. Seven people return home. How many secrets were revealed and how much damage did they do?.

“The Holiday Home” is a thriller by Daniel Hurst. I’ve read another book by Mr. Hurst, so I knew going in that this was going to be an interesting set-up plot. And it was. I have to tip my hat to Mr. Hurst - take the isolated location, trapped family, and toss in a lack of communication, stress, and the like - and you get this book. Were the twists predictable - yes, but it was a book I read in a few hours. Did I like all the characters - no, in fact I really disliked most (if not all) of them. The book is told mainly from Nicola’s POV, but a few chapters are devoted to other characters, which I rather liked. A good solid and engaging read that held my attention.

I have now read all of Daniel Hurst’s books and they have all be fantastic. This is certainly no exception and I raced through It to the final page. It has lots of twists and turns I was not expecting the ending which made me gasp. The setting of the book was great it built the suspense of the story.
I will definitely be recommending this great psychological thriller.

This was fun, fast paced story that you can devour in one sitting!! I LOVED the remote setting in Scotland so I was hooked from the first page. Two families with long term friendships and long term secrets embark on a long weekend getaway where tensions start to play out before the hot tub warms up. The story is take us through multiple viewpoints where the characters betray their true feelings about each other and the past leading to a dramatic conclusion and a ending you didn't see coming!!

I have loved all of Daniel Hurst’s books and this is certainly no exception and I raced through.
It’s a nail biting page turner with plenty of twists throughout. The setting is atmospheric and dark and the characters are intriguing.
I’d definitely recommend this great psychological thriller.

This book started out so slowly I almost gave it up about halfway, but the second half really picked up . I did not expect the twist at the ending. Most everyone at the holiday house had secrets but after all was revealed nothing would ever be the same!

Nicola is so excited when her best friend, Kim, invites her family to join Kim's at their holiday cabin in a remote part of Scotland. Nicola and her husband, Ryan are not as well off as Kim and her husband, Lewis. A vacation like this is only something they can dream about. As the four of them head to the cabin, with their respective children, Emily and Cole, they don't realize that secrets will be exposed and their lives will never be the same.
This was my first book by this author and I enjoyed it. Although the twists and secrets in the book were not too difficult to figure out, it was still a quick, and fairly fast paced read. I wasn't a fan of the twist at the end, it was just a bit too much. I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.

I love this authors work and this was no exception. I think I've read almost half of the authors work. I thought the writing was very good and loved the concept. Would definitely recommend

3/5 stars! A perfectly average thriller. The characters were bland but believable, the plot line was engaging but predictable, and the pacing was adequate. I didn't mind this book. There were a few moments in the book that I gasped and got pulled in deeper. However, for the most part, there was very little shocking about this book. Overall, it is a simple and quick thriller read, but I wouldn't re-read it.

I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
