After loving the Dead Romantics last year I was so excited to read The Seven Year Slip!! This story follows Clementine who is struggling with loss and moves into her aunts apartment. Her aunt always told her the apartment was magic and could send people back in time. Clementine always loved this story and one day she too stepped back in time and met Iwan. I find it hard to come up with the right words for this one other than I loved it and can’t wait for more from @heyashposton!! I have some of her ya backlist that I really want to get to soon! Thank you @berkleyromance for my #gifted copy!!

Clementine is a hard-working book publicist on the rise in her company. She is grieving the loss of her beloved free-spirited aunt with whom she had many adventures and traveled the world in her company. Her aunt willed her New York apartment to Clementine, she was always telling her it was a little magic. One day a strange man, Iwan, appeared in the apartment. Looking around, the apartment does not have any of her belongings, but rather is still furnished with her aunt's things....she comes to realize that there is a "seven-year slip". she is in present day, but Iwan is seven years in the past.

You will love this book is you are a fan of:
*time-travel
*magical realism
*New York City
*are a foodie

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this fun book.

Be prepared going into this one that you need to suspend all reality. I don’t want to say too much to give anything away with this one but Posten has a way of blending reality and getting to the heart of the story!
.

Huge thank you to @berkleypub @berittalksbooks @thephdivabooks @dg_reads and @netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really enjoyable premise and I read through it in one sitting! The characters were very well-written with their flaws and insecurities; writing Clementine and Iwan at different points in their life while still having them feel like the same characters is so hard to do properly, but Poston nailed it here. I would've liked a scene where Vera stumbled across Iwan and Clementine, realizing they are together, and a scene where Clementine told Drew and Fiona the complete story because I felt like those scenes were missing at the end, but other than that I really liked the story beats and how there wasn't really a traditional breakup new the end. If you loved the quirkiness and vibes of The Dead Romantics, this book will definitely be right up your alley!

This book is for everyone who ever cried watching "The Lake House" with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. I also would highly recommend it to anyone living in a long-distance relationship - it often feels like you're living in different times and every time you reconnect it's in a new part of your life. Sharing this burgeoning love story while also dealing with the grief involved with losing a cherished family member makes for a complex story of growth and learning about onesself.

This takes “right person, wrong time” to a whole new level! Imagine falling in love with someone who is living 7 years away from you. I love the way this author uses magical realism and a special house that has the ability to slip through time.

Clementine is a book publicist who is grieving the loss of her beloved aunt. She moves into her aunt’s house and finds a man there the next day who says he sublet it from her aunt for the summer. After some confusion and thinking he’s playing a cruel joke, Clementine realizes she has slipped 7 years into the past…and slowly falls for him.

I adored this book to pieces right from the start! The way he calls her “Lemon”, their connections, him wanting to become a chef, his stories about his grandpa and how he fell in love with cooking, her stories and memories of her aunt who had a zest for travel. The sweetest hero and just such a magical read, and not just because the house of the house! I loved The Dead Romantics from this author last year, and loved this one just as much…if not slightly more! Cannot wait for whatever this author writes next.

Thank you so much to the publisher (Berkley) for an ARC, all thoughts in this review are my own.

I liked this one! I enjoyed the NYC setting and felt that the main character was relatable. I enjoyed the romance, but I’m realizing that I somewhat struggle to connect to love stories with time warps. It was still good and this one was well done because both characters were in the time warp but I think I prefer my romance without this magical twist. Loved the cooking references and plot related to career growth and grief!

WOWOWO this was ADORABLE. I liked it even better than her first- an easy 5 stars. Swoony and romantic. I loved this one!

I loved The Dead Romantics so, so much, so was eager to dive into this one. It took me a little longer to get into, but once I did, I couldn't put it down. I appreciated the cameo by Able as well. Can't wait to see what Ashley Poston cooks up next.

Genre: Contemporary Romance/Magical Realism

4.75🌟 rounded up! I loved this so much!

This was the perfect balance of heartfelt, romantic, cozy, sweet, and tender while tackling heavier themes such as loss and grief. I loved this unique take on a second-chance trope with the foodie influences with an NYC backdrop.

Iwan and Clementine were just 🫶

I loved this one more than The Dead Romantics, and Ashley Posten is a new auto-buy author!

BOOK REVIEW

The Seven Year Slip
By: Ashley Poston
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Favorite Quotes:
"You are who you are, and you like what you like. You are you, and that's a lovely person to be."

"I didn't need to be fixed. I just needed to be reminded that I was human."

"That was love, wasn't it? It wasn't just a quick drop- it was falling, over and over again, for your person. It was falling as they became new people."

This was an absolute gem of a book! Truly enjoyed every second. 4.5 rounded up to 5 stars!

The Seven Year Slip is so original and unique. It feels like a big hug. It has time travel/magical realism and a second chance romance trope, more specifically right person wrong time. I was very scared about the magical realism, since I am not a fan, but I definitely loved this one!

This book is the definition of why you should give authors second chances—i was one of the few who did not enjoy The Dead Romantics, but because of the plot, not the writing. So I decided to give Ashley a second chance and I am so glad I did! I am so glad that now I want to go back to The Dead Romantics and actually finish it! I also think I had insane expectations for The Dead Romantics and so I went into The Seven Year Slip with zero expectations and it worked perfectly!

Similar to her debut novel, this story tackled grief. But it had a stronger storyline and more likeable characters (aka Iwan 🥹🫶🏼)! I was thinking of it every time I put it down yet didn’t want it to be over. Definitely something I want in a book!

If you want a thoughtful and swoony romance with a little touch of magic and some amazing sounding food, I highly recommend this!

Thanks @netgalley for the eARC!

This was such a sweet and lovely book. Solid characters, great setting, multiple romances and a little bit of unpredictable magic to pull it all together.

This is how you do time travel. I have struggled with time travel books previously because sometimes they don’t seem properly thought out in terms of all the intricacies and logistics, but the Seven Year Slip does it perfectly. It’s straightforward and I didn’t have to go back and forth to try to remind myself of the details. I love love loved the characters and the way everything came together at the end - they grew together even over all the time and space and changes in their lives. Their banter was adorable and the way they got to know each other better seemed very natural. Definitely a book I’ll be recommending.

The Seven Year Slip is the kind of book that you don’t want to put down, which is why I read it in one sitting. The writing is stunning, the characters are well-developed, the plot is fascinating, and the messages throughout the book are inspiring. I’m so glad that I had the opportunity to read it early.

While this was more or less a time travel book, I still enjoyed it. Time travel usually stresses me out trying to keep track of the time and the sciencey way they got there, but this was less sci fi and more magical realism. And it had more kissing than a lot of books I’ve read lately, so I’ll take it lol

Ok so first things first, the characters. Although this wasn’t Dead Romantics kind of good, I thought it was still good enough. All of them, including the side characters were interesting. Her editor bestie and her wife. Her aunt when she saw her. They all somehow had their own thing and the story wasn’t about them? Idk it was never boring because they were always there to help keep things going. As for Clementine I thought she was just like her name, fun and quirky and funny. And just like Poston’s other characters, she was also really good at hiding things. Because let me tell you, I knew there had to be something more, but I wasn’t expecting it to be THAT. Her aunt meant a lot to her and for her to have to live through that? As an adult who understood no doubt? I don’t know if I could cope with that.

The romance was really cute and I LOVED the love interest. And Pressley, as always, was perfect and gave him the most amazing accent. I liked how we learn about them falling for each other almost backwards. And seeing them fall for each other twice in this one novel was so sweet. When all the pieces started clicking together I was like gasping at every new thing that was revealed. But I can’t lie, I was a little disappointed in him when they meet in the present. I have to admit I was like Clementine and wanted him to be his optimistic self he once was. He seemed so jaded by the time they met in the present.

One reason I’m not usually a fan of time travel is the science that’s usually attached. There’s usually some weird explanation of why the physics malfunctioned or something and it loses me. But this time the time travel was more magical realism and it was always 7 years so it wasn’t confusing or anything that way. Since it was magical realism, the apartment just WAS, and there was no explanation needed. At the end I DO wish there was a little more explanation tho. I can admit I was wondering if there was a connection between her family and that other person’s family becauseeeeeee reasons. But we never find out. It really is like a blip in time. (And because the ending is actually kind of abrupt lol)

The narrator was the best as always. Brittany Pressely is one of my favorites and I vow to listen to anything and everything she’s done. That woman can make someone’s grocery list interesting lol And this one is no different. She had the different accents for everyone and those that didn’t have accents were still easy to differentiate. She’s one of the best in the biz and I can’t wait to listen to more books read by her.

This wasn’t my favorite by Poston, but in no way was my least favorite either. It’s just really hard when you’re going up against The Dead Romantics and the Geekerella series. But even still this review may be all over the place, but I really hope you pick up this book!

4.25⭐, 1.5🌶️

"This-this might be a bad idea."
"You could never be a bad idea Lemon."

This was such a unique and different story! I own (but haven't read) the authors other book, but I've only heard good things about both books so I was so excited going into this book BLIND! And it didn't disappoint! I loved having no idea how this romance would flow, and I just loved Clementine's character, her growth throughout this book, and just how sweet Ewan was! This book had so many sweet and quirky moments - favorite color, M & F the pigeons, and the way characters between past and present were uinterwoven by the end of the book! I just realllyyyyy enjoyed this!

Brief Blurb: After her aunts death, Clementine moves into her apartment. She knows the history of this magical space, where her aunt told her stories of falling in love with a woman from another time. Now, Clem meets a boy from seven years in the past, and their chemistry is instant. As she bounces between modern day, and her apartment seven years in the past, Clem knows that if she falls for this man in the past, it could cause pure havoc for her present self.

"Nothing lasts forever. Not the good things, not the bad. So just find what makes you happy, and do it for as long as you can."

Tropes:
💛Time Travel/ Magical Realism
💛 Forced Proximity
💛Second Chance Romance
💛 Slow Burn
