I received a free copy of, The Little Books of the Little Brontes, by Sara O'Leary, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I love the illustrations in the book. There are four Bronte siblings: Charlotte, Branwell, Emily, and Anne, their two older sisters and their mother have passed away. I really enjoyed this book.

A sweet story of the lives of the Brontë children. Despite the hardships they had to deal with as young children, this book shows how their imaginations and creativity carried them through it all. The pictures portray England beautifully. The bibliography and historical timeline in the back of the book makes this a great resource for educational uses!

A children’s book that introduces young readers to the Brontë children. The retelling of the real life events surrounding the Brontë siblings is paired with sweet illustrations engages the reader and draws them into the world of imagination and play and possibility. The extra content - a how-to for making your own little book, an author’s note, and a timeline - is a fun bonus.

The Little Books of the Little Brontes is an adorable picture book that touches on the childhood of Emma, Jane, Charolette, and Branwell Brontë and the adventures they went on through the pages of books. Perfect for fans of the Brontë sisters to read to the children in their lives. The illustrations are beautiful and the prose was wonderful to read. This book is worth to grace the shelves of children who have classical literary minded parents.

I adore this little book! Picture books are a wonderful way to introduce children to the lives of classic authors when the works of those authors might still be a bit out of reach. The illustrations in this book convey a mood of solemn happiness, which fits the Bronte family perfectly.

I highly recommend this one for any literature lover!

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for an advanced copy for review. All opinions are my own.

We don’t know what the Bronte children were thinking, but we do know that they did indeed create little books for themselves. Just as they sisters would go on to write books, as children, when they ran out of books in their home, they created their own. They would tell each other stories, and act them out. It seems odd, perhaps today, to think of children entertaining themselves this way. But, I too have done this as a child, making up stories, telling them to others, writing them down, and I live in a modern city, with access to a public library. The Brontes were out in the middle of nowhere.

This cute picture book tells of how they created these little books, and what inspired them to do so. If this gets children interested in the books the women wrote when they grew up, all the better. And if they decide to create their own little books, there is a section at the end of the book, that tells them how to do so.

Great way to look at the lives of authors, as children, one of my favorite things to learn about when I was a kid.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

The Little Books of the Little Brontë's, by Sara O'Leary, serves two-fold. Full of illustration and the story of the lives of a famous family, The Little Books of the Little Brontë's could easily serve as a first biography. It also is an activity builder for young budding authors. Children will enjoy the story and quite possibly be inspired to write their own.

The biography portion is difficult to put an age on. Although simple, and even repetitive, there is much about the death and dying of young siblings. Unfortunately it is a reality of the times, but might not be appropriate for younger children. On the other hand, the illustrations may draw the age group of younger, read to, readers. There is not an overwhelming amount of history and detail about the Bronte family, but in reading the author's notes, most information is simply unavailable. Again, a light history is perfect for early aged readers.

The main storyline is that of how the Brontë's themselves had little to read and could not afford paper on which to write. They used what was available, scribbling in the open spaces in books, recycling bits of paper, and creating little books in which to write. The author goes on to suggest just such a project to the readers of the book. She instructs how to take plain paper, fold it in a certain way, staple the edges and welcomes readers to begin stories of their own.

The book wraps up with a timeline of events in the Brontë's lives in comparison to real life events of the time. The author also provides a long list of historical references for the curious to further their study of the Bronte family.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me a copy of The Little Books of the Little Brontës for reader review. The rating and review of this book are that of my own.

Illustrations and story are engaging. It's a sweet story of siblings and imagination. The bibliographical information at the end is a nice touch along with the "How to" section. It will be a hit with Bronte fans for sure.

Little Books of the Little Brontes was a delightful story. It was very heartwarming and inspiring for all those book lovers out there. I did not know that this true story had happened and was so excited to learn all the details, thanks to this author.
I was so fascinated by this story. I loved how the children made the most out of a hard situation. They let their imagination take off and created these tiny books and as a result of their talents some of the most beloved stories ever written by some of the finest writers in history.
As a bibliophile I can't believe I didn't know about this wonderful story. I was so in love with how the author told the tale and its amazing details. I also love that the author included a timeline of the Children's lives. I also loved the heartwarming illustrations they help complete the story. My favorite illustration is the children in the bedroom telling their stories and behind them you can see their imagination coming to life in the shadows behind them. I can't express enough how much I love this story. I will highly recommend it to parents and fellow educators.

I received this ARC copy thanks to NetGalley and I gladly give my own honest opinion.

A lovely early biography for children with beautiful illustrations. A nice introduction to the Brontes which explains some of the unfortunate circumstances of their childhood without getting bogged down in sadness. I love the instructions to make their own little books. Highly recommend adding this gorgeous book to your collection.

The Little Books of the Little Brontës by Sara O'Leary (author) and Briony May Smith (illustrator) is a visually stunning, beautiful little book that provides sweet insight into the lives of three of the most enduring authors still treasured today.
Not only is it a story about the little books made by the sisters, it also provides instructions on how to make the books yourself. Also fascinating is the timeline of the sisters' lives.
This is not only a book for children, but one that adult fans of the Bronte sisters will treasure as well.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #PenguinRandomHouseCanada for the ARC, which was easily viewed in all its beauty on the NetGalley app.

Lovely little book with thorough concluding notes for the young readers (or parents) who want to continue exploring the Bronte sisters. A very worthy addition to any classroom library to plant the seeds for further teenage/adult reading

As an adult reader who has not really dove a ton into the classics (besides the forced upon me reading in high school and college, I was DELIGHTED to learn more about the Bronte family. Anything that can easily increase my knowledge about important world changers, makes me happy.
I like that this book showed how even in the saddest parts of life, children can be happy and play and create and that is a great coping skill!
I also love the resources the author provides at the end. (A timeline of the Bronte family, how to make your own little books).
This was a delightful book, and it spurred me on to further research too---and maybe made me brave enough to give one of Charlotte's books a try! :)

I immediately loved this children’s book from Netgalley. The Little Books of the Little Brontes by Sara O’Leary is a beautifully illustrated story of the Bronte children’s childhood and gives a glimpse into how they became the wonderful authors that they were.

We see that books and reading were a priority in the children’s lives. The siblings even went as far as making their own little books and stories. This seemingly is the birthplace of the beautiful tomes of work they would later write.

I enjoyed the illustrations just as much as the story. I feel like it is a wonderful historical book to share with children to introduce them to classic literature. If you are a lover of classic literature you will enjoy this as well. Also, you will find in the back some facts, a timeline and instructions on how to make your own little books as the Bronte children did. This is a fun element that will help bring the story to life for any child who reads this. Make sure to have supplies on hand when you read this to make your own little books with your little ones.

This book will be available October 17, 2023 and will make a beautiful edition to your home library.

An utter delight. The pictures are dreamy, the story is precise and sweet. I learned so much about the Bronte children. It is such a sweet book that is a great insight to how, not only the Brontes lived, but how children and people during that time lived. I was given an ebook, but I will be buying a hard copy for my library!

Truly lovely-- I have a huge soft spot for picturebook biographies, especially of authors, and this hits the mark.

Interesting juvenile biography on the Brontes. I did not think this worked great as a kindle. However, I am quite excited to see it in paper form. I thought the illlustrations were a unique take on the minds of these sisters. Recommend.

Thank you to Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

This book was absolutely sunning in illustration from front cover to back.
Although this book had a beautiful story to share, it was a bit all over the place. There were a few pages in my opinion that did nothing for the reader. It was also very hard to judge which age group this book would be appropriate for. The comment about falling ill and dying was very casual.
I do love the message about creating or visualizing a separate life through story.
My favorite passage being ... "Charlotte couldn't give Anne a trip to a castle or a journey by sea. She couldn't make life as exciting or as easy as it might have been. But she gave her sister the one thing she could. A story."

The DIY in the back of the book is such a nice add. I would have loved for the focus of this book to be more about the little books so that it felt more fun or necessary to make them.

I was accepted to read an ARC copy of this little book from Netgalley.

I read the book on my Kindle. The format that I was sent, at this point (because I'm certain that they'll be updating the format as they move closer to publication) was not very Kindle-friendly. All but a few of the illustrations came through in bits and pieces that made looking them a little bit like interpreting art that I couldn't fully understand.

The few illustrations that I could clearly see, however, were very cute.

The little story was also cute, and I appreciated the introduction to the Brontës (which are favorite classic authors of mine) that it offered for little children. I would definitely want this in my classroom library, if I taught younger children, and I might even think about using it as an introduction to a Brontë unit for older students.

I enjoyed reading this book and getting a look into the Bronte family. The story was fun and exciting and the history at the end was very interesting and informative for me.
Due to it's format as an ARC, that I was privileged to receive via NetGalley, the pictures and words were a bit jumbled but it's a book I wouldn't mind owning!
