Lethal Range Ryan Steck
Matthew Redd and his wife are starting their family and now have to deal with, amongst other things, a biker gang in this western noire. Ryan has written another action-packed thriller. Love how Matthew’s wife is no push over and quire capable herself. A nice follow up to Fields of Fire and the story will continue. Recommend this one.

Lethal Range is a very well written thriller. The plot is an edge of your seat page turner. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased review .

This is a read that is not for the faint of heart, there is almost non-stop action, and you wonder how anyone could continue to live after all that goes down. Now this is the second book in this series, but the author does an excellent job of bringing and keeping you up to date.

There seemed to be two stories here, but they are melded together, and in the end do go together.

The evil that is lurking here made me think, it is something that could actually happen, and will the they get there in time to over come?

Ryan Steck did a wonderful job of keeping my attention, and touched on a subject that affects everyone, our food supply!

Now I'll be looking for more by this author!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Tyndale House, and was not required to give a positive review.

I received an ARC of this book and it was a good book, but not great;
like the 1st book in the series. Maybe if the author didn't end the book
with a cliffhanger, so you have to read the next book, would change my view on it. So many authors are doing that nowadays and I have
stopped reading them.
Thanks to Tyndale House Publishers and NetGalley for the ARC and I
do recommend this book for the story, characters, and action.

This is my first book by Ryan Steck and I must admit I was quite impressed! Matthew and Emily is in a awful predicament as his enemies are out for revenge. The nailbiting suspense prevents you from doing anything else. I wanted to know how on earth he was going to overcome all this obstacles in front of him without losing his wife, child or home? There is no shortage on action or twists and turns! Just when you think: this is it . . . There is more!! Absolutely loved it and would recommend it to all suspense lovers.

A solid espionage thriller that is part of the Western storytelling motif. I like the whole concept and the characters; there were some very tight spots. I appreciate the background of Matthew Redd and his strength as a character. There were some glimpses of a Barry Eisler-type feel to the characters and I'm a huge Eisler fan, so that's good. For the most part an excellent novel.

The second novel from Ryan Steck reveals a marked improvement in storytelling and dialog. Lethal Range picks up a few months after Fields of Fire. Matt and his wife have welcomed their baby, and Matt is working for his father, still trying to capture Gage. There is enough backstory given here that if you haven't read book one, you can follow the story, though I would recommend reading it to get the full effect.

Part of what stands out about this series is the high regard Matt holds for his wife and how capable she is (which I suspect is a reflection of the author's love of C.J. Box). Matt has trust issues and doesn't want to ask others for help, a large focus of this story. There is a bit of humor splashed in, which always helps in an action-packed book like this.

This is listed as Christian fiction so don't be surprised by talk of Bible reading and church going. But it doesn't go much deeper than that. There is the requisite violence associated with this genre but no profanity or sex.

Overall I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to fans of action thrillers.

Matt and his FBI friends are after the population control group leader that got away from in the first book, but again they are stymied. And then there is still that motorcycle gang that threatened him in the first book and that gang comes after him this time with a vengeance. The stakes are higher now, because he has a wife and child to protect.
Lots of tension in this one. I am already waiting for the next installment. I received an arc from NetGalley and am under no pressure for a positive review.

Matthew Redd is back in Lethal Range, book 2 in the series, with Redd not only battling enemies on a national level, but local thugs as well. This action-packed installment picks up right where the last book ended, as Redd and his FBI off-book team are in pursuit of a high profile criminal. Simultaneously, a violent biker gang hell bent on revenge has targeted Redd and his family back in Montana, pulling Redd in two different, but ultimately diverging directions. As you might expect, there’s plenty of action here, and although the hand to hand combat scenes are a little extended and cartoonish, it’s keeping in Redd’s character, and doesn’t detract from the story. The plot's much simpler than the 1st book, and that keeps the reader engaged as the scene is set for book 3 with a cliffhanger ending. Author Ryan Steck has a good thing going here, and looking forward to more Redd adventures. I received an arc of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review,

I love this series, and wow did this book bring it!
The characters are all beautifully written, the plot flows effortlessly from scene to scene. The story, which centers on revenge on Matt and his family from a Biker Gang, as well as the unfinished business of Gage starting a global terrorist act, is captivating from the start. Has everything you want in a thriller - action, bit of mystery, and lots of adrenaline. Already eager to read the next book. Highly recommend.

Fields of Fire, the first novel in the Matt Reed trilogy, completely fascinated me. I was overjoyed at the prospect of reading and influencing the series' sequel, Lethal Range. From the opening of this high-stakes action-adventure, I was captivated. I couldn't put this rapid-fire mystery thriller down.

When Matt's infant becomes dangerously sick, things get a little crazy for Matt Redd, who is at home working hard on his ranch and loving his wife, Emily, and new infant child. Matt's wife is a nurse, but she is unable to determine the cause of their child's illness. Other things go horribly wrong. Matt and Emily are baffled by what is going on. As more red flags surface, the problem becomes more apparent.

When I read this, the main character, Matt Reed, reminded me a little of the Reacher series, in which trouble follows him wherever he goes. Matt has the same problems. When it appears that the good folks are doomed, this story will pull at your heartstrings and make you cheer for them to win.

Matt Reed had to outwit his pursuers. He needed to fight more strategically. To get an advantage, he needed to exploit his military experience. I admired his thought process as he prepared to meet his adversary.

The author's pace was excellent. He provided intense nail-biting moments but also gave the reader a chance to recover their breath before the next incident occurred. Throughout, the character development was excellent. This work was action-packed and engaging without the use of blood, guts, graphic violence, or sex scenes, which I appreciated.

I'm eager to read the next installment in the series. This is a crazy escape I know your book club would enjoy discussing.

Lethal Range was a very interesting story with a lot of combination of factors that one may not expect to go together. The book took awhile to get through, but was interesting.

The second story about Matthew Redd. Action packed, again. However, this time he has a wife and baby, so the game changes a bit! There's some pretty unbelievable fights!! There is some bad language, and it can be gruesome in spots. Overall, a pretty good story.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance e-copy of this book! All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

This mystery cum thriller will surely get your heart pounding and set the chills chasing and trilling each other up and down your spine; at least it did for me. I hope potential readers have good heart tickers. Ha, ha!

There's quite a concoction of FBI agents, serious damage biker gang that ought not to be messed with; a GMO crop distortion 'genius'; the latter groups of whom are on the war path against Matthew Redd, the hot head. Needless to say I found lots of action happening and with such groups employing their nefarious deeds, you can likely already imagine some of the scenarios, or think you might. Just when you think nothing worse could happen...

It wasn't really my sweet cup of tea but I can see how many guys would love all the action that could likely give them a good run for their money. The author really socked it to the characters - hmm, maybe that should read, the characters really socked it to the author. In my opinion, either way, there were no holds barred.

Some added sweetness were the injections of Bible-based faith talk. Although there weren't many, which I found disappointing, they were there, just in under the wire.

4 stars from me.

Quite a few years ago, I read a summary of a MIT study that showed just how vulnerable the US economy was to an enemy state attack, or a limited terrorist attack. For example, it wouldn’t mean taking out the whole oil industry but a portion of just one part of the petroleum supply chain. Al-Qaeda thought they could decimate the US financial system by knocking out those firms and systems housed in the World Trade Center in 2001. Similarly, the antagonist in Steck’s book following the saga of Matthew Redd has a similar plan: find a tipping point in the global well-being that’s close to the edge and push it over the cliff. Redd is a former Marine and FBI trouble-shooter living in Montana. He’s fighting on two fronts in this book: the global terrorist and local terrorists in the form of a motorcycle gang. Stick compels us through the plot in the same way Thorn, Baldacci, Melzer, Dale Brown and other action writers do: you just can’t put it down.

We also get a glimpse of the protagonist’s, Redd’s, devotional life as he tries to live up to what he learned from his adoptive father, JB. Unfortunately, Redd is not an aspirational character when it comes to his faith. Like most of us, we don’t see our beliefs impacting our vocations. I’ve seen it with customer service people, CEOs, everyone, myself included. Redd is behaves in his work no differently than his colleagues. His faith is not in evidence. There’s one quick sentence or two, where Redd contemplates “turn the other cheek” (from Christ’s Sermon on the Mount). But it’s not a deep dive as he dismisses it because of an attack on his family. There’s no consideration that as followers of Christ, His teachings and His living example, we do not seek personal vengeance. We can seek justice for others. We are called to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit at all times—if we believe He’s dwelling within us—of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness… Also Christ calls us to love our enemies, not just our neighbors (family, friends). Scripture also tells us that “perfect love casts out all fear.” And the Ten Commandments say, “Do not murder” which Christ expands in His famous sermon to be equivalent when we hate. Perhaps as Steck’s series expands, we’ll see Redd transform into being more Christ-like. What Redd is doing is not different from typical “Christians” but I hope Steck gives us some hints to a greater life of faith, that can be shown in what we think, decide and do.

Spoiler to a plot problem: As smart and technically savvy as the antogonist, Anton Gage, is somehow he failed to not have his partner-in-crime show up repeatedly with his personal cell phone at the “scene of the crime.” This allowed the FBI to determine where to converge their forces and stop Gage’s plot to “destroy the world.”

This story is full of action. Just how far do the tentacles of one searched for terrorist go?
One event after another adds up to an almost unbelievable fight to save the world from famine.
I enjoy books with plenty of action and suspense but I feel this book would be well enjoyed by men. There is plenty of description and manly moves.
We owe so much to those who risk their lives to keep Americans safe from harm.

This is an awesome book! This is a new to me author and I was hesitant to try it. I am so glad I gave it a try! The storyline kept me hooked the entire book and the characters felt easy to relate to.
I was hooked from the beginning of this story. I loved how well written it was, and how easy it flowed.
The characters felt like the kind of people I would know in real life. They had the same kind of problems that are prevalent today.

I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone.

Lethal Range is a contemporary thriller written by Ryan Steck. It is the second book in the Matthew Redd Thriller series. This book could be read on its own, but I wouldn’t recommend it as I think you would miss too much of the context from the first book.

Summary: Matthew Redd just wants to settle down with his new wife and son, but he has unfinished business with an elusive billionaire who is on the run.

It’s time to catch the fugitive and return to his struggling ranch.

But when his past comes back to haunt him, he finds danger much closer to home in the form of a biker gang out for revenge. Can he protect everything and everyone dear to him? Or will this shootout be his last?

My Thoughts: I liked this book. There is a ton of action, a good mystery, plenty of suspense, epic bad guys, and I really liked how the author portrayed the tight bonds Matthew had with his friends.

I did think it got pretty unrealistic towards the end of the story, however. The fight scenes were great, but there were so many of them, it was a little much to say that Matthew could have survived even half of them, even if he was the best fighter in the universe and had all the luck in the world.

That said, I did still enjoy the book, and anyone who loves lots of action will probably enjoy it as well. Readers might just need to ignore some things that were more on the unbelievable side to get through the book.

There is definitely a lot more material to explore in this series, and I am looking forward to reading more of the books as they come out.

I would like to thank Tyndale House Publishers for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for this review. Thank you!

Lethal Range is an exciting thriller that is hard to put down. I found myself reading late into the night, seeing how many pages I could read during a break, all to consume this book faster. I enjoy heroes that aren't perfect, that can lose a fight and are human. Seeing the real-world problems that Matthew Redd has to deal with, makes him more real to me. Who doesn't worry about money, or feel the stress of a debt coming due? We all can relate.
I enjoyed the action in this book as well. And because the author is relatively new we aren't sure what he is willing to do to his characters. That suspense builds as Redd gets deeper and deeper in trouble.
All of the plot lines were resolved nicely with enough suspense added to make you want to read the 3rd book in this series.
This book checks all the boxes for me!

How do you follow up on a spectacular first book? By writing a sequel more thrilling that the first one! Part thriller, part action flick, part old western, the Lethal Range has a little bit for everyone. Matt Redd is back with non stop action fighting multiple foes on all fronts.

Ryan Steck does a magnificent job keeping the reader engaged, while building up the suspense and story from the first book.

Fans of Mr Steck will not be disappointed in his sophomore book. Matt Redd is here to stay as yet another excellent character in the thriller genre.

This book was provided to me as an ARC by Tyndale House Publishers.
