I had a hard time getting into this book. A slow start is not a usual occurrence for me with this author. I love Becky Wade and EVERYTHING she writes but the first three chapters were just not holding me with "don't you dare put me down" vibes. Although I did get "please keep reading this looks interesting".

Anyhow from chapter 4 that all changes (yes I took note). More characters were introduced and the window of the story became larger. I was suddenly "how do you play into the whole story?" "What connection do you have to the hero or the heroine?" Because both our main characters were shrouded in mystery from the beginning. One by chance and the other by circumstance.

The premise of the book is intriguing even when I felt it was going slowly. It is a good book from a great author.

This book took me by pleasant surprise. It does deal with some heavy topics that require a trigger warning but the author has provided details about that on her website. I also love the elements of mystery laced with romance. Jeremiah is swoon worthy but also sweet and caring. And while I constantly wanted to whack some sense into Remy, she was strong and sure heroine. Fully capable. I found myself lost in their Romance, Adventure, and twisting turns. Thank you to NetGalley and the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Do not let the cover of this book fool you! While it may look like your typical light-hearted RomCom on the outside, the story inside is truly so much more than that... while still having all the wonderful elements that I love in a RomCom too.

Witty banter, check. Delightful use of tropes, check. Swoon-worthy kisses, check.

Among all of that, we are also introduced to two very broken characters who have faced trauma in their lives. This story takes on some very heavy topics that could easily make this a much heavier read but is done so with grace and respect in a way that actually offers a message of hope and healing. I feel like this is something that Becky Wade does wonderfully, and this one is a prime example of that. (While I won't list them here to avoid spoilers, I would highly recommend visiting the author's website to see sensitive content warnings. While handled well within the story, there are topics that could be triggering to some readers.)

Add some mystery on top of all of that, and I was hooked. From start to finish, I found myself wanting more and more. I have read many books by Becky Wade in the past, and I have enjoyed them all very much. Still, I think Memory Lane has been my favorite of them all, and one of my favorite reads so far this year as well. I cannot wait to see what happens next in this series.

**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

Memory Lane was an absolute delight to read. It is in my opinion the perfect balance of heart, humor, and even hard times. Remy’s scheduled life against Jeremiah’s relaxed demeanor was so entertaining, It definitely makes for an excellent read from cover to cover. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I received a copy of this book for my review, but all options are my own.

Memory Lane
Sons of Scandal, Book 1
by Becky Wade
Pub Date 14 Feb 2023
ARC provided by Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op
Christian | General Fiction (Adult) | Romance

I am reviewing a copy of Memory Lane with an arc copy provided by Victory Editing, a Netgalley Co-Op:

Remy Reed relocated to a cottage on one of Maine’s most remote islands, after surviving a trauma several years back. She arranged her life just the way she wanted to, spending her time working on her wood sculptures and soaking in the beauty of nature. It’s quiet and solitary until the day she spots something bobbing in the ocean.

When she looks through her binoculars and they reveal that it was a man and he’s struggling to keep his head above water. She races out to save him and brings him into her home. He’s injured, which doesn’t detract from his handsomeness nor make him any easier to bear. He acts like a duke who’s misplaced his dukedom expensive tastes, lazy charm, bossy ideas.

Remy would love nothing more than to return him to his people, but he has no recollection of his life prior to the moment she rescued him. Though she’s not interested in relationships other than the safe ones she’s already established, she begins to realize that he’s coming to depend on her.

Who is he? What happened that landed him in the Atlantic Ocean? And why is she drawn to him more and more as time goes by?

There’s no way to discover those answers except to walk beside him down memory lane.

I give Memory Lane five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

I truly enjoyed this story. Remy Reed, basically a recluse because of past trauma, lives on an isolated island on the coast of Maine. She rescues a man from the ocean and with the help of her friend Leigh, nurses him back to health. The catch.....he has amnesia and doesn't remember how he came to be in the ocean. He decides on the name Jonah, since he was rescued from the sea. when he returns to the mainland he is instantly recognized as a man named Jeremiah.

This is the first book in the Sons of Scandal series and as the story progresses the reader discovers why they are called that.

The banter between Remy and Jonah/Jeremiah is so funny. They are like opposite sides of a coin but both come to realize that they belong together. I loved the mystery part to with Jonah and Remy trying to help him reclaim his memory and solve the mystery as to why he was in the ocean. There is also as side story with Remy trying to help her widowed neighbor find his first love.
All the characters were great and we meet Jeremiah's brother, Jude, an FBI agent who is the lead in the second book. This story has faith, family, mystery, humor, trauma, healing, and beautiful scenery.

The beginning of this book seemed very different than Becky Wade's other books, and I wasn't sure for a few pages that I was going to like it as much. Very soon, however, I found myself burning to know the answers to so many questions. Who was "Jonah"? How did he end up in the ocean? Was he really rich? Why did that bother Remy so much? What had happened to her in her past to make her so isolated, and so determined not to get romantically involved with anyone?

The story was really very delightful, and having two mysteries to unravel along with answering all of those questions was a treat. I think it's going to be a great series and can't wait to read about brother Jude in the next one! Becky Wade did not disappoint, and I wish she wrote faster (but being a writer myself, I understand).

I am grudgingly giving this one 4 stars. I requested this from NetGalley after reading the synopsis, not expecting all the religion that would be contained within. I also prefer more spice; I have a hard time feeling connected to the characters and believing their feelings when there's no emotion or tension. That being said...

The story was very engaging. A man who is floating in the ocean, who can't remember anything? Amnesia is always an interesting topic, as it is not very understood. Then you have a woman who is content to live alone, in the middle of nowhere, with a traumatic past. Put them together, and it makes for a humorously stressful situation. It gets more compelling with every little bit of information that gets uncovered, every small flash of memory, every new person that gets introduced. Despite the lack of romantic passion, there is quite a lot of intensity surrounding the mysteries in the story. While I did roll my eyes at a particularly cloying bit of religious conviction, I still kept reading to find out how the story would turn out. I would even seek out the next book in the series, because there are some things that don't get resolved for some of the side characters. I would read it in spite of the fact that it's a "Christian fiction", just to know how things end up for everyone else, although I do feel a bit hoodwinked that the synopsis contains no mention of religion or faith. I suppose that's by design, though, because I probably wouldn't have requested the book if it had...

In all, I'm glad I read this story. It had some very intense parts that were edge-of-my-seat, and that made it worth reading. There were some sweet parts, as well, and though I feel a bit deceived, I don't at all feel like it was a waste of my time.

Becky Wade is a Must Read for me. Her storytelling is second to none and I love the characters that come alive because of her work.
Remy’s love of her work is palpable. Can I also admit that I was so pleased to have a Formula 1 connection? (I’m a huge fan)

First, I have to say that I am a fan of this author. I've been reading her books for so long. She's an auto read for me and I rarely read the blurbs for the books before agreeing to review. That's why this book caught me a bit off guard. It is totally different than what I've read before and not what I was expecting at all. That isn't a bad thing!

This book was more mystery. Remy finds a man in the ocean that has been through things, clearly. He's battered and can't remember anything. There is the whole mystery around what happened and as he tries to recover and remember, the plot thickens. I really liked *Jonah*. He was quite determined and ever so patient with Remy, who has a shell harder than a turtle. The things he did to help and support Remy were so sweet. He was always thinking of her. I'm not exactly sure how *Jonah* became so enamored with her because man, was she hard to get to know and like for me, as a reader. So prickly, that one. Yes, she has some good reasons due to her own trauma, but still.

I would say this story was a bit heavier due to some of the trauma the characters experienced. This wasn't a light read. It was a little gritty and stayed pretty heavy all the way through but the ending was really good. Everything came together in a great climactic showdown and it was completely engaging. I loved that part! The epilogue helped lighten things and gave me some happily ever after vibes.

I'm looking forward to the next book about Joel, who is *Jonah's* brother. FBI and going under cover. It should be so good!

Content: peril, mild violence. Kissing. Some trigger warnings for rape and infidelity. Some Christian elements.

After go through traumatic experience Remy moved to an island in Maine where she spends her time on creating het wood sculptures and reading fantasy novels. Her organized life is turns upside down when she saved an injured man from the ocean. He has amnesia so he doen not remember who he is and what happened. Remy helps nursing the man back to health and works together with him to figure out what happened.

I loved the combination of romance and mystery. The book dealed with some heavy subjects. I was a bit confused when Fiona's and Jude's point of view was told since at that time you don't know how they relate to the story.

I was new to Becky Wade so I did not know about the christian aspects.

This was my first book by Becky Wade. What an amazing introduction to this author. This book had romance, inspiration, mystery, and intense scenes all wrapped up in one story. Ms Wade's characters were well thought out and became like friends to me by the end of the book. Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!
I very much love an enemy to lovers' troupe, and this is what is given in this book in many different ways. My favorite character was Jeremiah, aka Jonah. I loved following his story and was very involved in the mysterious things happening in his life. Second main character was Remy. There were moments when I wanted her to be more indepth than she was, but I still loved her. Wendell and Marisol's ending touched me! I very much look forward to the next installment of the Sons of Scandal series. Thank you to Becky Wade, and NetGalley for allowing me the chance to read and review this ARC.

I enjoyed this book from the very begging. I loved all the characters in this sweet romance book. This story also had a bit of a thriller element to it, which I really enjoyed. Overall I really loved this books and am excited to read other books by this author.

This was a cute romance that actually ended up dealing with some heavy topics (check TWs if you’d like to know) and had a bit of a thriller aspect, which I enjoyed! Overall, this was an enjoyable read! 4/5 stars!

New to this author, so I was unaware of the faith component, something to be aware of if you’re not super interested in that, but there wasn’t an overwhelming amount of faith discussed in the book.

Becky Wade does not disappoint her readers! Once I started, I could not put it down. I love the main characters Remy and Jeremiah. The side characters Leigh and Wendell are also great additions to this story. There is plenty of mystery to go around - Remy works diligently to help Jeremiah regain his identity and find out what really happened in his past and the events that led to her finding him almost drowning when she rescued him from the ocean outside her home.

Remy’s past haunts her in so many ways and she struggles to navigate life while trying to keep herself safe from being hurt again. I love how Becky shares Remy’s story and how the friendship with Jeremiah develops. As she realizes she has deeper feelings for him, Jeremiah tries to help Remy overcome her fears. There are some very tender and lovely moments between these two that once again remind me why I love Becky Wade stories. She skillfully crafts a beautiful story despite the ugly and hard things that these characters have endured. In the end, God’s grace and healing shines through and this is why I love Memory Lane. I am looking forward to more stories in this series!

I was really intrigued by the first line and premise of this book. I was also continually impressed with Remy and her strength both physically and emotionally. I love characters that overcome a lot and she definitely fit that description especially as she rescued J.

I wouldn't want to read tons of books with an amnesia storyline but it is very interesting occasionally. I cannot imagine how difficult it was for J to wake up disorienting, in pain, and not remembering anything. I felt like the descriptions of his predicament were really well written.

This book deals with some fairly heavy topics. You should definitely check trigger warnings as there are a few. Some of the reviews have been incredibly harsh about triggers and in my opinion not accurate. Mine are genuinely honest on my StoryGraph review.

This book has a great mix of love, mystery, and a fun setting. I hope you'll give it a chance after you read reviews and warnings.

I really liked Remy and J together. I loved how they completely exasperated each other but how they were still there for each other. I adored J's level of patience and control with Remy. I'm definitely curious to read the next book in the series.

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review

Memory Lane was a great read and I had such a fun time! The 400+ pages felt like nothing and the story was very engaging. I especially enjoyed the mystery aspect behind Jeremiah's identity and his background.

The developing relationship between him and Remy was wonderful; they took their time and didn't jump into anything. Their relationship grew in a gentle, sweet way and so well-planned. To me everything felt very realistic and I loved how sweet Jeremiah was on her. Even the side characters felt important and made the book so much richer. All of them were a perfect fit and the humour was on point.

I have never read a book like this before and can honestly say that there is nothing here that I didn't like. I'm excited for the second book in the 'Sons of Scandal' series and this won't be my last read of Memory Lane.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own!

Memory Lane is the first book in a new series, and I loved it! It's a wonderful blend of mystery, romance, and intrigue, and I was completely hooked from the opening line to the very satisfying ending. The characters were well-developed, complex and unforgettable. The storytelling was very engaging and fast-paced. I adored the banter and the slow burn romance between Remy and Jeremiah. The beautiful descriptions of Maine felt like its own character and had me feeling like I was right there. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

This is a clean read with spiritual aspects, but it's a bit grittier than her other works. There is nothing graphic, but it does deal with rape, trauma, infidelity, and suicide.

Remy is living a quiet life on the remote island of Islehaven, Maine when one afternoon she spots something in the water. Turns out that something was a man who is confused and doesn't know who he is or where is he. Where did this man come from and why is he so beat up? Remy starts to nurse him back to health and help see if they can figure out who he is. This book was unexpected, but so good. A story about overcoming one's past trauma, finding oneself, and reconciling the past with the present. Highly recommend this book and can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Remy Reed finds a person trying to swim to shore off the coast of Maine. She is the only one with a boat close enough to go out and save him from a briny death. When she gets him back to shore, he has no idea who he is, he has a head wound and some broken ribs. She nurses him back to health until he develops pneumonia and has to be transported by plane to a hospital on the mainland. Once in the ER of the hospital, he is recognized by one of the staff. After that, he begins to regain bits and pieces of his memory, but he just doesn't want to let go of Remy.

Becky Wade has put into this book a bit of mystery, a bit of dysfunction, a bit of entitlement, and a bit of introversion. I can relate to Remy's desire for a quiet life. I am rather introverted myself.

In navigating the ins and outs of this particular novel, the reader can become so engrossed as to not put the book down until it is finished. It's not a particularly tough read, and there are some tender moments that just make the reader's heart sing. Becky has also set up a scenario for the next novel in the series. It wasn't the most skillful set up, but it is there if you watch for it.

Four stars.
