I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

You and Me is a beautiful watercolour picture book for children about why being different to one another is a good thing. It points out differences between two siblings in the story - one likes dogs, ones scared of dogs; one likes slime the other hates slime; one likes certain foods one hates that type of food etc. After each difference, the book reiterates how boring it would be if we were all the same. I love books like this as it makes children feel less of an outsider for liking different things or feeling different to other children (e.g not liking loud noises) and also helps other children to see that someone being different to them is perfectly normal too. We need books like this to help children learn compassion and understanding towards others and themselves. This would make a great book resource for a class discussion in a group too!

This is a wonderfully illustrated book that helps explain the differences among us. This book allows the child to place themself within the book and make comparisons. Our family always loves books that provide windows and mirrors as it is so important to celebrate the uniqueness of ourselves and others.

When teaching kindergarten, we normally talk about the physical differences that make us all the same and different, so this "differences" book about the senses would be a great addition! Each sense has an example and a counterexample, with various language tied to the senses. A great reminder that not everyone has to like the same things.

Thanks NetGalley for the preview!

Darling illustrations and great book about how everyone is different! A valuable look into teaching kids how to notice differences. Very interactive.

Thank you to Caley Nunnally and Ninewise Publishing for the ARC of You and Me! As a fellow speech-language pathologist, there is so much I love about this book!

First, the book highlights different ways two people might react to the same sensory experiences (ex: seeing a dog, hearing loud music, touching gooey slime). It not only encourages children to recognize differences but to celebrate them, asking the question, "If we were all the same, how boring would that be?"

Since the book goes through each of the senses with pictures and examples, it would be perfect for introducing a Five Senses unit in the classroom.

It's also a fantastic tool for social-emotional learning as it can be used to work on perspective-taking, emotions, and social inferencing with all ages. I think it's great that tips from the author are included.

During a recent social group session with older elementary students, I read the eBook and had students find out one another's likes/dislikes and then compare/contrast them.

To expand upon the lesson on perspective-taking, we talked about how our different experiences often influence our preferences/reactions...

For example, someone who was chased by a dog as a young child might now be scared when they see a puppy... whereas someone who has had only positive experiences with dogs might feel happy/excited in the same situation.

I love that the book's sweet, detailed illustrations also showcase diversity (including a wheelchair user and even an AAC user, which is not often depicted).

This book is a must-have for SLPs, OTs, SEL teachers and other educators, and I can't wait to get my hard copy!

I adore this book and the messages it conveys about differences, which I believe are appropriate for children to read. Aside from that, the illustrations are fantastic.

I loved the way this book used the senses to show our differences. What looks, sounds, feels, tastes or smells good to one person makes someone else cringe. That's made okay by the repeating the phrase if we were the same "how boring would that be?" At the end of the book, the author also included tips for parent to teach perspective. This is a fun way to teach kids an important lesson.

You and Me by Caley Nunnally has nostalgic artwork but the prose is overall disappointing. It is not lyric or beautiful and reading aloud would be a bit boring.

It felt very same same and I've read and found similar books. I also didn't find it that engaging or enticing and i'm an adult- I don't think the children i work with will enjoy this sadly.

This is a beautifully illustrated book that helps children learn about the different ways we experience the world. It explores this relatively complex idea through the senses and everyday activities that children will recognise. I really like the colours and the watercolour style of the pictures. The children pictured aren't homogenous and reflect the different communities and ethnicities that the reader will be growing up in.

The text flows nicely and there's enough of it to spark interest and conversation with your child. There's also a helpful page at the back with prompts for adults who'd like more help exploring different perspectives with children.

This book takes an important element of growing up and expanding our world and presents it in a fun and age appropriate way.

Cute story of the importance of differences between people. I didn't love the illustrations but the message it taught was beautiful.

I received a copy from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Wow i love the watercolor illustration, so pretty. The book itself has a great message about “Diversity” such as our physical appearence, or even just the taste of food that we like are different.

“If we were all the same, how boring would that be?

It’s really good for the child!

The text of the book was good, and it has a good message. it would make a good read aloud for children. I would have been more likely to purchase it for the library if the illustrations had been different - perhaps photographs or a different style of illustration.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC! This book has a great message about how we are all different and if we were all the same that would be so boring. It is okay to like different things and we should embrace who we are.

The use of watercolors for the illustrations is different- but a good different. You dont see that often in books and with the message this book sends to readers, I think it is perfect!

It's a great book for children learning about diversity and tolerance! The book is also a good choice to arouse their curiosity. Parents could have a long coversation with their children just for one page (see the tips at the end of the book). Really like the illustrations, they fill the pages so it wouldn"t be boring.

Loved this children’s book, such a great message and it had wonderful watercolor illustrations. I love the focus on how boring life would be if we are all the same! Such a fun way to teach diversity to young children.

An important book for young children to read and understand all of the things that make us different. This is a perfect book for teachers to read to their students in class, especially because younger children don’t always understand that everyone has different opinions, tastes, etc. 5 stars.

Thanks so much to NetGalley for the ARC!

First off, I LOVE the art style. I'm a sucker for anything that looks like an artist just took a page from their sketchpad and put it into the book - this one is all watercolor and lines and it's really great. I also love that this keeps a big message very simple - we all have the 5 senses, but that doesn't mean we'll all like the same things! And just because I don't like something you like, doesn't mean I don't other things like it!

This is a super cute and very simple book for younger audiences - great for the baby/toddler in your life.

I love the learning message in this book….we are all the same in many ways, but those same things are what make each of us unique from one another!! The book includes the differences in our physical features, our behavior patterns and even our sensory differences. Kids learning the lesson that we are all different and that is ok and what makes life interesting is a great one! Acceptance of everyone is so important.
