The Surgeon was really interesting subject material for me as a pharmacist, but unfortunately the murder mystery story line was too slow burn for being the main focus of the book. I did enjoy the twist and reveal of the killer and would definitely read more from this author!

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Bookouture for this digital early copy of The Surgeon by Leslie Wolfe. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Loved this book! We read it in our book club and everyone rated it 4-5 stars. Majority of us work in the medical field including a doctor, so it was interesting to hear everyone's viewpoints on what they would've done in this situation!

Wow! I really enjoyed this novel by Leslie Wolfe. It was fast paced, full of many unexpected twists, and kept my interest the whole time. You can tell she did her research! I hope Wolfe writes more stand-alone thrillers soon!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this eARF in exchange for an honest review.

A very well researched book. With a patient dead on the operating table, the conflicting emotions of a doctor who has never lost a patient, the doubts all of those are nicely covered. The aftermath of this event is really interesting. It makes The Surgeon an unputdownable read. A book one can finish in one sitting.

Leslie Wolf’s newest novel “The Surgeon” is a fast paced medical thriller. Dr. Anne Wiley hasn’t lost a patient in twelve years, until today. After his death, she realizes she knows the patient, and he’s an important figure from her past. Did Anne just murder him? The hospital and district attorney are determined to find out in this story of psychological suspense.

Medically, I would say this book was mostly accurate based off my knowledge. There were some frustrating elements and unlikable characters, but I think this was a necessary part of the story. After reading this I would definitely pick up another Leslie Wolf novel.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this novel.

I feel like this started slow and didn't keep my interest - wasn't the right time for me to read this and DNF'd but would be interested in trying again!

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.

This had my two favorite professions in one book, so I was thrilled (doctor and lawyer). Besides a few incorrect hospital procedures I overall enjoyed the story and the characters. Had a strong reaction to the characters and what was going on. Feel the ending was a bit rushed whereas some of the meat of the book was repetitive but it didn’t really slow down the story. Overall I enjoyed the book and will read more by this author.

Anne Wiley is a celebrated cardio thoracic surgeon. She saves lives, and has never lost a patient in surgery; until now. The heart is not beating in the chest of the man on her table. Trying heart massage, to no avail, Dr Wylie glances at the face of her patient, recognizing his shaven face as a man from her past. Declaring her patient deceased, her entire world turns upside down. A very aggressive DA accuses Anne of murder.
This was an excellent book, with all the elements of a thriller: murder, betrayal, deception and twists!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in return for my honest review.

I do love a new @wolfe.leslie book and this one hasn’t disappointed. Although it starts off slower than I usually prefer, this is one that I have been completely caught up in.

This is focused on two very different woman. I have found neither particularly likeable but have craved more and more information as I’ve read this.

This is compelling and addictive in all the best ways. This has been fascinating with a wonderful level of detail among the pages. This one is completely unputdownable once you get pulled into the pages.

Wolfe has managed to leave me speechless with the ending of this one. I couldn’t of predicted it and it’s left me speechless.

This is a book that kept me awake far too late at night. However, I am now keen to read more from this author. I will definitely be going back to this author’s collection to read the books I haven’t yet read. This is brilliant.

The Surgeon by Leslie Wolfe

After reading the premise, I was incredibly interested in this book but became frustrated within the first 100 pages and found this difficult to finish.

I must say that there were certain parts of this book that were really good and I thought the author's overall writing style was great. The idea behind this book was exciting and cleverly thought out. The author clearly did the necessary research to write a book which contains a lot of accurate medical information/procedures, so they should be given a lot of credit for this. Overall, there were a lot of great elements to this book, and I did find it entertaining, but I could not overlook some of my bigger concerns when making my final rating.

The way Paula continued to attack Anne's personal and professional reputation for her own selfish gain was irritating. I absolutely hated Paula as a character, and sometimes that is fine and necessary to the story, but it got to a point where I had to take a break and read something else because I was losing interest due to my hatred. The fact that Paula's office continued to allow her to get away with this personal vendetta, and even helped her to do so, struck me as being slightly unfeasible. Also, the fact that Anne did not meet her patient until the surgery also seemed to be unrealistic, but I understand that this was crucial to the storyline. Furthermore, I did not particularly warm to Anne as a character either, so I found it hard to agree with some of her decisions. The author, perhaps unintentionally, seemed to portray Anne as being indecisive and flippant at times.

Personally, this book was just not for me, but it's worth a read for any fans of psychological thrillers, as it may be perceived differently by someone else.

I rated this book 3 out of 5 stars.

As only the second book of the year to receive a 5-star rating from me, I would highly recommend this book. Anne, the main character is a prominent and successful surgeon who has yet to have a patient pass on her operating table. So what happens when 12 years into her career she finally loses a man on her table and the whole world seems out to get her?

Leslie Wolf creates this story where you see two career-minded women (great start IMO) whose lives start to intersect and figure out who you believe and who you may end up hating. A unique idea for a thriller I haven't read before and I hope to read more of Wolfe's books.

I've read many thrillers and the twists and plot were by far one of my favorites, my rating: 5⭐'s

Book: The Surgeon by Leslie Wolfe
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Publication: 8th March 2023

I was very intrigued when I first read the synopsis for the surgeon, especially since being in a medically field myself and having binged watched series like grey’s anatomy and the house and also just finished reading the silent patient.. I was on a roll and was lucky enough to get approved to read and review this psychological thriller.

This is my first time reading Wolfe’s work and I was not ready for the boomerang of emotions and conflicts i was going to experience.

Dr. Anne Wiley’s past comes knocking right at her working table, and she is in throws of conflict with her emotions and in the end of guilt .. of not saving the patient by choice.
Does this make her a murderer?

Ethics are questioned, a lawyer hellbent of proving the fact that she did kill her patient and the time lapse between past and present sends the reads through various stages of understanding, scrutinising Wiley and much more in this twisted journey.

Thank you NetGalley and bookouture for the ARC copy.

I could not get on with this at all!
Didn’t grip me from the start and was rather boring truth be told.
Just seemed to go around in circles and not the kind of thriller I was expecting sadly!

The Surgeon is a standalone thriller by Leslie Wolfe.

Wow! This fast read had me on the edge of my seat and gave me the creeps (in a good way). Just when I thought I had the mystery figured out there was more revealed and more left to be uncovered.

I loved how twisted this book was. The characters were engaging and absolutely fascinating!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you so much to the publishers and to netgalley for my early copy of The Surgeon in exchange for my honest review.

Dr. Anne Wiley is fighting to save a patient that fatally suffers an aneurysm until she sees his face and recognizes him from a past she would like to forget. The port wine stain on his forehead has haunted her for years. She feels conflicted as she doesn't know if what she has just done makes her a murderer or if she truly just made a mistake. She can't help but ask if his showing up on her table was a pure coincidence or fate.. Under scrutiny by her peers, her boss and further investigations, Anne continuously revisits the day while trying to forget a worse memory from her past. Is Anne as innocent as she claims to be or a murderer?

This was shocking and twisty and everything you could ever want out of a psychological thriller. It was like Grey's Anatomy on steroids. The story is told from two angles. Anne's perspective along with a collection of memories from her past that come back in waves and from an attorney hell-bent on pegging Anne for murder.

This was my first time reading a Leslie Wolfe novel and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of her work! 4.5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
