I love memorable Feehan’ characters are that they couldn’t help but steal the show, the heart-warming humour lacing every single page, the thrilling elements and I feel heady just contemplating which book of hers I want to read next.

Ghostly Game is definitely a slow burn, but the mystery around Rory's life is really good. I liked that I didn't know exactly where it was going early on. I do wish there'd been more or a romance feel to the story as opposed to a mystery, but the Ghostwalker series has always felt that way more than Feehan's other series. Overall, it was a solid read and will definitely recommend!

Ghostly Game by Christine Feehan is book 19 in the series. I haven't read them all-I have sort of hopped around throughout the series and it hasn't hindered my enjoyment! This book is the story of Rory and Gideon.

Rory lived sort of a nomadic life and was very "lone wolf"-ish. She struggled with her health and so she kind of just shut people out. Now that she is settled in San Francisco, she builds up some friends and meets Gideon. These two have that instant spark, but both are wary. Gideon is a GhostWalker and worries that Rory might be a spy. However, it could be that she doesn't know she is a GhostWalker. Either way, he is skep. However, his team investigates and keeps her out of danger, so he doesn't just bail on her. But, this really puts their relationship on the back burner in a sense. When I tell you this is slow burn, I mean it. Its like Mariana Zapata slow. However, the mystery is really good. You find out bits and pieces of Rory's life as the team digs and I really felt like I didn't know where it all was going (in a good way).

Ghostly Game felt different from other GhostWalker books I have read. Now, as I said, I skip around, but this one was slower. I'm still not sure how I feel about that. I don't really like the super slow burns, but this reads more like a mystery that happens to have a romance. Not that the romance is a side story, but it just isn't as prominent as I usually get from Feehan. Also, there is some relationship drama, and I'm really not a fan of miscommunication/lack of communication and I felt that a bit. However, the story was really good!

A cop is shot in Rory’s and her friends apartment lobby, then the 4 men living there who gave the ladies the creeps start dying, the police are circling, playing the ‘bad cop/good cop routine.

A dead cop, drug dealers dying and the ladies of Rory’s apartment terrorized. I had my theory fairly early as to who had killed the cop, however I was so entertained watching Gideon work to fix his mistake I didn’t even read the last chapter to see if I was right!

Rory has relied on and protected herself for a very long time, living a nomad life she finally believes she had found a job, friends and now with Gideon in the picture a true reason to stay…until the trust she placed in Gideon is shattered.

In a subtle mixture of a ‘whodunnit’ and a ’relationship101’ story line, Ms Feehan had me shouting “no” out loud to Gideon as he makes the mistake that would drive the relationship side of the story. If you’ve read previous Ghostwalker books, you’ll understand why while I was smiling over Gideon’s dilemma, I was wondering when Dr Whitney’s spider web influences might show up.

I was right about the bad guy and since it’s a Feehan story, Gideon and Rory work through his relationship errors. The action is more subtle in this story but no less intense and despite her always feeling she must torture her main characters whether physically or mentally I have read this story 3 times since it came out. Can’t wait for the next installment of this series.

I received a copy of this book for review from NetGalley. I'm not completely sure how I feel about this book. The mystery drew me in, and it definitely kept me going, but the rest didn't do as much for me. Like many of this author's books, this does require some content warnings, and all of these people need therapy. I always enjoy the found family elements of the Ghostwalkers, but if it's been a while since you've read one, you'll definitely feel like you're missing some of the character work. Overall, this was a decent book, but it won't be making my list of favorites.

Another sultry and entertaining book by Ms. Feehan, and I’m in love!! This is one of the few series that I still read by Christine Feehan & I plan on continuing with it. It’s interesting & hot. This world that she has created is pretty amazing!!

I enjoyed reading this as I'm a fan of Christine Feehan. I must admit I haven't read the other books in this series, but I didn't find it necessary to enjoy the story. The chemistry between Gideon and Laurel is fire, sexually and emotionally as they battle their own demons or "ghosts."

Oh, I had a really great time reading this book! I love this series so much, and this latest installment was so great, it was so great to be back with Team 3, and it had a lot of unique elements, which kept things fresh and exciting! Though it was kinda funny having a book called Ghostly Game in a series called Ghostwalkers! Though I can understand where the title came from-they're ghosts even to GhostWalkers!

Of the new elements, I'll talk about them in no particular order. The first is that Rory doesn't know that she's a GhostWalker, and other GhostWalkers couldn't tell if she was, at first. Which means that she's lead a pretty normal life. She has friends, who are characters in this book, and I really adored their friend group!

Another difference is that when he screws up, she calls him out on it, and ends the relationship. He was in a tough situation, sure, and she doesn't know about the GhostWalker stuff and how they might have been chemically attracted to each other because of Whitney. He still betrayed her trust, and that was a big thing. But I enjoyed watching how things progressed!

Besides the romance, there's a murder mystery plot going on, with Rory looking like she's an accomplice of the bad guys who were getting killed. Having the cops investigate, that's not something that's happened often in this series, and it was really entertaining to read!

Loved reading this book, and I can't wait for more! I hope we get more of Team 3, since this is the 3rd book, and Kane and Rose's story was just the two of them, really, without the rest of the team.

Veena’s review of Ghostly Game (Ghost Walkers, Book 19) by Christine Feehan
Paranormal Romance published by Berkley 02 May 23

A new emotionally intense entry from veteran author Ms. Feehan in her Ghost Walker series.

Gideon Eagle Carpenter is healing from injuries sustained in a recent engagement. His rooftop is his only escape and relief, when he hears laughter that seems to lighten his darkness and finds her, the other half of his life, working in a nearby bar.

Laurel Rory Chappel is a nomad. She doesn’t remember much of her childhood, makes no friends, and continues to move from place to place like a rolling stone. But at her most recent stop in San Francisco, where she’s tending bar, she seems to have made friends and is reluctant to move on.

When Gideon begins a slow courtship, she finds a kindred spirit and is pulled still closer to putting down roots for the first time. Then it seems like all hell breaks loose, and a murder in the safe apartment complex where she lives starts a chain of events that can bring no good. Confronted with the truths that Gideon shares with her about her possible past as one of the orphans that Whitney experimented on, she wants to cut and run.

This is a nice slow-burn romance that is more traditional than some of Ms. Feehan’s fast-paced, highly erotic books and is quite enjoyable.

I believe this is my favorite Ghostwalker installment. I immediately liked them both and understood their reactions to each other and the danger around them. Rory’s past, though forgotten, caused her nightmares and made her afraid to trust. Gideon has many demons from his past as well, yet they help each other break open their shells and find love. The romance was sweet, yet turbulent..I loved it. I didn’t realize until I finished that this book was not as steamy as Ms. Feehan’s usual style. I didn’t miss it at all. It flowed smoothly and believably. The storyline was almost twofold. Separate mysteries swirling around with a lot of drama and danger. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I enjoyed it all.

this worked overall in the Ghostwalker series, I was engaged with this universe and thought it flowed well overall with this book. The characters felt like they belonged overall and I was glad they felt like they belonged in this universe. It had everything that I was hoping for from Christine Feehan.

"I thought I hurt you. Maybe killed you when I found out you really had awakened me from my dream.” For one terrible moment she felt herself choke. Her lungs burned. Her throat felt raw. She had to fight past the gut-wrenching pain at the thought of losing him. “I believed I pulled you into my nightmare, and somehow, I might have harmed you. I’ve read about things like that happening. I know they do happen.”

While I absolutely love the Ghostwalker series, and the characters were just as great as ever in this latest addition, it ended really abruptly for me. We've never experienced a novel in this series that does not involve action from Whitney attacking or making a play against the primary couple. And while, yes, there might be some explanation about why not with Rory being who she is, it lacked something without that.

I love that we're back in this team in California and that Rory was embroiled in the main turmoil instead of it being military action focused. I loved Gideon and Rory's connection and emotional angst as well. Must reiterate the strangeness of having their first and only love scene as a sort of epilogue that ended the novel. It came as a shock on my ebook version where there's no book 'thickness' to indicate you're almost done.

Be The Real Deal. Come To Me Because You Honestly See Me And I Matter To You."

Gideon "Eagle" Carpenter is healing at home after a rescue mission went bad that almost cost him his life. Seeing the massacre of families has brought back the terrible memories of his childhood. Gideon, trying to meditate and deal with his memories hears a woman's soft laughter and sends out a psychic lure to find her working in a bar and makes plans to meet her, because for a few minutes she brought him relief from the darkness of his life.

Laurel "Rory" Chappel, bartender, and nomad likes to travel and enjoys being outdoors feels a strong compulsion to travel to the San Francisco Wharf where she gets a job as bartender, rents an apartment and starts making friends. But, because of her weak lungs, being forced to use a breathing machine and inhaler Laurel feels like she's unlovable and no man will want her. Laurel knows she'll have to leave her job and friends soon. While visiting with her neighbors an injured cop stumbles in and tells the women to run before he dies. Gideon slowly realizes that Laurel's a Ghostwalker and they've been paired. Why is Laurels psychic energy so low? Did Whitney send her to kidnap Kane and Rose son, Sabastian and destroy Team#3? GHOSTLY GAME is the nineteenth instalment in Christine Feehan’s contemporary, adult GHOSTWALKERS erotic, paranormal romance series focusing on an elite group (4 teams) of enhanced men and women known as the GhostWalkers (GW). These ‘super soldiers’ were once part of an unauthorized government experiment performed by Dr. Peter Whitney. The original GhostWalkers struggled without a female anchor, a female whose genetic and enhanced powers were often in tandem with the men involved. This is GhostWalkers Gideon 'Eagle’' Carpenter, and bartender Laurel ‘Rory’ Chappel’s story line. GHOSTLY GAME can be read as a stand alone but for back story I recommend reading the series in order, or at the very least book one SHADOW GAME where the reader is introduced to the world of the GhostWalker.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Gideon and Rory) GHOSTLY GAME follows with Gideon’s discovery of the woman he believes is his fated mate. Laurel ‘Rory’ Chappel rarely stays in one place or city for very long but has found a home and friendship in San Francisco. A series of break ins and murders in her apartment building finds our heroine the target of police, police she begins to suspect are on the wrong side of the law. Meanwhile, several mysterious and dangerous men begin to follow our heroine from work to home, where she will come face to face with her future in the guise of GhostWalker Gideon Carpenter. What ensues is the building but trepidatious relationship between Gideon and Rory, and the fall-out as Rory’s issues of trust implode when secrets and lies push her out of Gideon’s life.

Rory Chappel has no idea she is a GhostWalker: a part of Peter Whitney’s orphaned girl experiments, experiments of which have left Rory with no memory of her early life, or the torture and pain that had been inflicted as a child but the more time she spends with Gideon, using their telepathic abilities, Rory’s memories and powers begin to tear at the fabric of her mind, a tear that can only be healed by a psychic physician.

Gideon Carpenter has not been forthcoming about who he is, and what he can do but it is his team of GhostWalkers that threatens his growing relationship with our story line heroine. Mack McKinley, Gideon’s team leader, suspects Rory is the enemy, sent by Dr. Peter Whitney, and as such has the entire team looking at Rory as an assassin, biding her time to destroy them all. As Rory continues to struggle with issues of trust, she begins to pull away, suspecting she has more than one target aiming to take her down. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters from GhostWalkers Team Three headed by Mack McKinley and his wife Jaime: Javier Enderman, Kane Cannon, Paul Mangan, Rhianna Bonds, Ethan Meyers, Lucas Atherton, Marc Lands, and Brian Hutton but saying that we are not witness to their powers or their strengths with the exception of Paul Mangan. We are introduced to Rory’s friends and neighbors: Lydia Sawyer, Janice DeWitt, Pam Williams, Cindy Atler and Sally Hudson, and Rory’s boss Brad Fitzpatrick, and Detective Warren Larrsen. The requisite evil has many faces.

The world building continues to focus on Dr. Peter Whitney and his experiments that have created a super solider, as well as the abuse of a number of little girls under his ‘care’ but use of these powers amongst Team Three is limited throughout the story except in the case of Gideon and Paul. I have to question why the Team would text information to one another when each of them has the ability to talk telepathically between minds.

GHOSTLY GAME is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, abuse, torture and brutality, acceptance and love. The premise is detailed and intriguing; the romance is subtle; the characters are powerful, determined and strong.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ghostly Game is the nineteenth book in the GhostWalker series by Christine Feehan. I am a hardcore fan of Christine Feehan, and I believe she’s one of the best paranormal romance authors. Ghostly Game, although unique to the other books in this series, checked all the boxes of a fantastic paranormal romance.

There are different teams of GhostWalkers, and this book follows my favorite team. Gideon’s soul is black, and he’s slowly losing touch with his humanity and his team, which is his family. Rory is a nomad with an unknown past and a respiratory condition. Gideon knows instantly when he hears Rory’s laugh that she is meant for him. Gideon must weigh his loyalty to his family against his commitment to the woman he loves. Rory must learn to trust Gideon when she has had no one to depend on in her life. The journey Gideon and Rory take is intriguing and romantic.

The feel of this book was very different than most of the GhostWalker books. The evil mastermind of the books plays a background role where usually he’s more prominent. This book felt more like a ‘Who done it.’ The antagonists are different, and the focus and movement of the plot are unique. A lot of the book focuses on Gideon and Rory being in their heads figuring out their relationship. I liked this; the couple not only had to trust each other but themselves. The last quarter of the story picks up speed and action. I always enjoy the GhostWalker books, and Ghostly Game is no exception. I do hope Javier has his story told soon! I have been waiting on it forever! If you’re new to paranormal romance or a die-hard fan, I highly recommend this series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book through the Netgalley and the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Romantic Suspense that keeps secrets from characters and readers. Not just from the murder mystery they find themselves embroiled in but the mystery of the Laurel, the FMC, Stirring curiosity and conflict. It had my eyes growing big as they, as I, tried to figure them out! Second guessing within the story and myself, and turning pages to get the information...Love when a title fits in a figurative and literal way for the Characters! Especially the way it does in this one! It’s really an awesome read!

A hero haunted by ghosts of his past, the self imposed guilt he carries for actions he took and didn’t take then. Then there’s the dangers from Dr Whitney always on their minds, now, worrying about his plotting, deception … Gideon is bound to his Team, his family, those who helped him survive from childhood, those he’d give everything for, protect. Then he finds her, a woman who brings him peace, she’s a mystery and as he learns answers about her more questions arise he needs to resolve his doubts and follow his loyalty…but would he sacrifice the love he’s come to feel for her, the woman who makes him feel alive.

A heroine haunted by a ghost from her past, whose whispers on the edge of her memory wake guilt and vulnerabilities in her, keep her isolated, ready to move on. Laurel struggles against these urges as she final finds a friendship, work, and a connection with a man that makes her want a future, to have a home. Vulnerabilities, doubts about the past she can’t remember, build as dead bodies start showing up, suspicion points at her…and then Gideon betrays the trust she’s given him and builds on her guilt and doubts, the whispers grow… Friendships help her gather strength to believe in herself. But the danger, the killer has targeted her and the only way to be safe is Gideon, the man she pushed away.

What a great story for Gideon and Laurel! Are you ready to learn about the Ghosts of their pasts, the conflicts these characters face that challenge trust in themselves and each other? The mysteries they are embroiled in? How will the bond, the loyalty amongst GhostWalkers play a roll in their happily ever after? This book answers all of this in such a gripping way, has the reader wondering at the truth, along with jaw-dropping revelations and oh nos! turning pages to find out more, and of course those, oh my dreamy sigh moments… This is a great addition to the series and one I recommend.

GHOSTLY GAME (GhostWalkers Book #19) by Christine Feehan is a slow burn paranormal romance in the long lived GhostWalker series featuring genetically engineered soldiers and the mates that are made to match them. I have read many, but not all the books in this series. Each book is easily read as a standalone paranormal romance with a secondary mystery/suspense plot with characters and their talents from other books included without the need to read them all in order.

Gideon “Eagle” Carpenter is recuperating from his last mission which almost killed him as he saved a fellow GhostWalker. He is always the protector, but never believes he is worth saving because of the terrible things he has done. As he is meditating on his roof, he hears a woman’s laughter that pulls him out of the darkness.

Laurel “Rory” Chappel is a wanderer and never stays more than a few months in any one place. She supports herself by bartending and is amazing in her abilities. She does not date because she believes her severe asthma makes her too weak for anyone to be interested in her for the long term.

When Gideon enters the bar Rory is immediately interested in the dangerous looking man who makes her feel safe, but she is not sure she can settle down in one place and she feels Gideon is hiding things from her. Gideon soon realizes Rory is a GhostWalker and he is determined to protect her from the danger around her and get her to stay.

This is a change from the other books I have read in the series. This book has a very slow burn romance due to Gideon’s healing injuries at first and then Rory’s in the latter part of the story. They work more on emotional issues and trust between them where the other books have a lot of steamy sex scenes between the H/h. The two mysteries/suspense plots are a police investigation going on around Rory and her friends in her apartment building which puts them all in danger and there is also Gideon and the other GhostWalkers wondering if Rory is a danger to them sent by the doctor who created them. For me, this was a good addition to the series, and I was happy Gideon finally met his match, but the police investigation did not feel fully developed.

Overall, I enjoyed this return to the GhostWalker series. They keep me coming back for more.
